What we need to come to remember this morning is that our one responsibility is bowing before God in worshipful reverence. The truth is that God's plan for you might be remarkably different than those around you. Our faith needs to be willing to be unanswered. Our faith need to be willing to be teachable. The truth is that God's plan for you might be remarkably different than those around you. Pride is the most dangerous sin. It is the sin that is fed by all other sins.
The Bible speaks to those who have faced significant life changing events. God cares about people who experience traumatic events. God loves and cares for our veterans who are suffering with PTSD.
When we allow God to be pushed aside or mixed with other religions we no longer have a true north on our moral compass. In other words...deistic plurality leads to moral anarchy.
God won the victory in the past and is the same power of our victory in the present and the future. We just need to humble ourselves and submit to His truth and His leading in our lives.
Israel turned their back on God because the human heart is prone to wander when the stormy seas of life come. Israel turned their back on God because they loved the idols more. They loved the idols more because they desired prosperity and safety.
There is no circumstance, person, nation, substance that is independent of the sovereignty of God.This is the reality because God is the only being that is uncaused.
Whether the threat is form within or without…God is still in control. Whether there is good leadership or poor leadership…God is in control. Where there is no leadership…God is still in control.
God promised and delivered and now what? From what we see in this passage is that it seems Gideon expects God to be done with the miraculous and go back to his rocking chair in the sky. It's now up to Gideon to lead and rule in the day to day.
Gideon, who through faith, finds himself over his mocker and facing the choice of responding in mercy or or in contempt. We too find it hard to follow in faith when we face our mocker
Weakness is brought about by the fear of God's people and the result is the fragmentation of God's people.
Instead of looking to your circumstances our yourself, look to the Lord.
In our weakness God is strong. You are exhausted with life because you think you can handle what only God can handle.
God's power is most fully displayed when His people respond in their weakness.
The reality is that for a lot of us it isn't that we lack faith…as in we are absent from faith. If that were the case we wouldn't struggle with how we are or are not obeying. Our struggle is that our faith wavers but our hope is in the fact that God's faithfulness doesn't
We need to trust the Lord more than at the altar. Trusting God is more than a momentary decision but a lifestyle.
Sometimes stories of past deliverance are irrelevant in light of their current crisis. When it comes to God and His provision in our lives we tend the run on our short term memory not our long term memory. And when adversity comes we usually want God to do a removing job when He wants to do an improving job.
There is nothing amazing about grace if there is nothing life changing about an encounter with the holiness of God.
The impact of grandparents in history is impossible to calculate. Because of the powerful influence of grandparents there is always hope! Even if one generation goes astray, the next generation can be brought back through the influence of grandparents. Grandparents can bridge the gap between parents and children. They can make major differences in the course of history.
Israel thinks that their biggest problem is the Midianites. Their love for the Canaanite culture was their biggest problem. This isn't their first time on this track either. It's almost as though they love their love of the world around them was bigger than their disdain for the hardships of life.
In Judges 4 we see what happens when the outward restraint is removed.
God himself is to be the one who meets the need of his people. He has never had even one of His people in a situation where they couldn't look to Him for everything they need. We too often get wrapped up in what we THINK we need. And then miss out on our deepest need…our God and creator.
When people lose sight of God's grace, they lose sight of God and any obligation to him. This passage and the remainder of the book give us the consequences of forgetting the grace and goodness of God.
Regardless what time period in history a person has lived they needed a deliverer.
God is sovereign in the lives of individuals and in the lives of nations and kings
God has called us to be salt and light in this world. When we allow our affections to be tangled up in the world around us we become like themGod has called us to be in the world. He has also called us to be distinct from the world. Israel failed to do so and the rest of the book of Judges pictures what happens when we go from being in the world to loving the world.
Getting too comfortable in the world wasn't just a problem for Israel…it is a problem for us today as well. Much of this study will deal with our fallenness and God's faithfulness in spite of our faithlessness.

We all will stand before God and will give an account for our lives. The only way we can enter into His presence is if we stand before Him in the righteous standing of Jesus Christ.
We are like the wandering orphan wondering who we belong to. We are searching, wether we realize it or not, for God and to be reconciled into His family.
