Andrea continues her conversation with The Final Hours hosts Sarah Turney and Kourtney Nichole about the realities of creating true crime content. They talk about the emotional toll of repeatedly telling difficult stories, navigating criticism and threats online, and the complicated relationship between advocacy, journalism, and lived experience. The three also discuss the responsibility creators and audiences have to center victims, follow the evidence, and remember the real people behind these cases. *** Listen to The Final Hours: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-final-hours-with-sarah-turney-and-kourtney-nichole/id1872821250 Try out Andrea's Podcaster Coaching App: https://studio.com/apps/andrea/podcaster Order Andrea's book The Mother Next Door: Medicine, Deception, and Munchausen by Proxy: https://read.macmillan.com/lp/the-mother-next-door-9781250284273/ View our sponsors: https://www.nobodyshouldbelieveme.com/sponsors/ Remember that using our codes helps advertisers know you're listening and helps us keep making the show! I'm probably covering 1% of the world events when we conduct these briefings, so please remember that if I left it out, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's unimportant. Sermon Series: The Kings of BabylonSunday morning sermon with Pastor Gary Clouse from Valley Community Church in El Monte, CA.Note: This message is available in both audio and video formats on our website. Notes are also available in PDF format.
In this August series wrap-up, Dave Jenkins examines the common thread behind counterfeit spirituality, prophetic culture, prosperity theology, emotionalism, and other deceptive movements: a shift away from the authority and sufficiency of God's Word. Christians do not need new revelations, spiritual trends, or captivating personalities. In Christ, believers have everything necessary for life and godliness. This episode calls listeners to test every teaching by Scripture, grow in biblical literacy, and stand firm in the truth as the church ministers in a post-truth culture. In this 1935 20th Century-Fox Studios Year by Year episode, Friend of the Pod William Wyler, in his only appearance at Fox during the studio era, hits it out of the park again with The Gay Deception. This is one of two comedy masterpieces by Wyler in 1935, both woefully neglected, although this one foreshadows his one well-known comedy, Roman Holiday, in certain of its plot elements. But it's recognizably a 1930s screwball comedy, albeit with Francis Lederer as the madcap heiress (or prince) driving Frances Dee screwy. And we also watched The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo (directed by Stephen Roberts), which is a very good use of Ronald Colman and also features Joan Bennett, which is no cause to complain. Finally, in our So This Is a Sentence? segment, Andrew Sarris enlightens us about lechery, longing, sophistication, sexual humour, and malice in the movies of Lowell Sherman. In this episode, we're joined by Andrea Dunlop, host of Nobody Should Believe Me, to examine the haunting case of Madeleine McCann. On the evening of May 3, 2007, three-year-old Madeleine McCann vanished from the family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, while her parents dined at a nearby restaurant. What followed became the most publicized missing child investigation in modern history. The global media spectacle turned her parents into suspects, generated more heat than light, and produced decades of leads that went nowhere. A German national was formally named a suspect in 2020, but no charges have been filed. Behind the noise of international coverage, a small child simply disappeared. BEAUTY BEYOND BETRAYAL - Heal from Betrayal, Affair Recovery, Betrayal Trauma Recovery
What happens inside the brain during an affair—and why can an unfaithful spouse become so consumed by someone they barely know? In this episode, Lisa Limehouse explores how dopamine, novelty, limerence, cognitive dissonance, and compartmentalization can fuel the fantasy and deception surrounding infidelity. You'll learn why an affair can feel addictive, how the unfaithful spouse may rewrite the history of the marriage to justify betrayal, and why secrecy can strengthen the brain's reward cycle. Lisa also explains the difference between understanding the neuroscience of an affair and excusing the choices that caused it. If you are the betrayed spouse, this episode will help you understand why the affair's intensity does not mean the affair partner was more valuable, desirable, or compatible than you. If you are the unfaithful spouse, you'll discover why ending the affair requires more than waiting for your feelings to disappear—it requires no contact, complete honesty, accountability, renewed thinking, and genuine character transformation. Grounded in Scripture, neuroscience, and current research, this episode offers truth and hope for Christian couples healing from infidelity, sexual betrayal, and marital deception. What happens when someone finally believes the story you've spent years carrying alone?Board-certified polygraph examiner David Goldberg joins Giving Pain Purpose for a powerful conversation about truth, trauma, validation, and the profound impact of finally feeling heard. With more than 30 years of experience investigating abuse, assault, and complex trauma, David shares how his work goes far beyond determining whether someone is telling the truth.Together, David and Lyndsay explore why trauma survivors can struggle to trust their own memories, the lasting damage of being dismissed or disbelieved, and how validation can become an unexpected part of the healing process. They also unpack common misconceptions about polygraph testing and its role in relationships, personal healing, and the pursuit of justice. At its heart, this conversation isn't really about a machine or a test. It's about what happens when someone is given the space to tell their truth—and someone is finally there to listen. For anyone who has ever questioned their own story or carried pain in silence, this episode is a reminder that being heard can be powerful—and your story matters.Episode Highlights:(00:02) Lyndsay opens up about lying, truth and self-protection(03:17) Introducing David Goldberg(04:19) What a polygraph actually is and how it works(06:04) How your body reveals the truth(07:27) What happens if you're nervous during a polygraph(08:09) How examiners reduce anxiety before testing(09:45) Who polygraphs are really for(16:00) Polygraphs for sexual assault survivors and victims(22:00) False accusations and how polygraphs protect the innocent(27:00) How polygraph results hold up legally(35:42) Advice for anyone who has been dismissed or not believed(36:05) What a professional examiner's job really is(37:45) Polygraphs for people in abusive relationships(38:28) How to find David and closing thoughtsFind David Goldberg Online Here:Website: www.executiveprotectiongrp.comInstagram: @thedavidgoldberg Facebook: Executive Protection Group Polygraph Service YouTube: @the_davidgoldbergPodcast: Inside The Polygraph with David GoldbergFind Giving Pain Purpose Online Here:Website: givingpainpurpose.comInstagram: @givingpainpurposeFacebook: The Giving Pain Purpose PodcastLinkedIn: Lyndsay SopranoYouTube: @givingpainpurposeShop: thegivingpainpurposeshop.comSubscribe on YouTube | Merch Shop is OPEN!! | COMING SOON: The Pain Hub - A Women's Healing Community. What Is Christian Warfare? Jonathan Parnell Download Psalm 109,Be not silent, O God of my praise!2 For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me, speaking against me with lying tongues.3 They encircle me with words of hate, and attack me without cause.4 In return for my love they accuse me, but I give myself to prayer.5 So they reward me evil for good, and hatred for my love.6 Appoint a wicked man againsthim; letan accuser stand at his right hand.7 When he is tried, let him come forth guilty; let his prayer be counted as sin!8 May his days be few; may another take his office!9 May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow!10 May his children wander about and beg, seeking food far from the ruins they inhabit!11 May the creditor seize all that he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his toil!12 Let there be none to extend kindness to him, nor any to pity his fatherless children!13 May his posterity be cut off; may his name be blotted out in the second generation!14 May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord, and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out!15 Let them be before the Lord continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth!16 For he did not remember to show kindness, but pursued the poor and needy and the brokenhearted, to put them to death.17 He loved to curse; let curses come upon him! He did not delight in blessing; may it be far from him!18 He clothed himself with cursing as his coat; may it soak into his body like water, like oil into his bones!19 May it be like a garment that he wraps around him, like a belt that he puts on every day!20 May this be the reward of my accusers from the Lord, of those who speak evil against my life!21 But you, O God myLord, deal on my behalf for your name's sake; because your steadfast love is good, deliver me!22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is stricken within me.23 I am gone like a shadow at evening; I am shaken off like a locust.24 My knees are weak through fasting; my body has become gaunt, with no fat.25 I am an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they wag their heads.26 Help me, O Lord my God!Save me according to your steadfast love!27 Let them know that this is your hand; you, O Lord, have done it!28 Let them curse, but you will bless! They arise and are put to shame, but your servant will be glad!29 May my accusers be clothed with dishonor; may they be wrapped in their own shame as in a cloak!30 With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord; I will praise him in the midst of the throng.31 For he stands at the right hand of the needy one, to save him from those who condemn his soul to death. In 1657, an English Puritan named John Arrowsmith wrote a book describing the Christian life as warfare. He says this warfare is not something that happens every now and then, but it's constant: To be a Christian is to be at war, period. Sometimes we can have moments of respite — which are gifts — but the baseline reality of the Christian life is that we actually live behind enemy lines.Arrowsmith writes: [quote] “Christians dwell in enemy territory so long as they [are in this] world.” Everyday we fight against the world, the flesh, and the devil, but he explains the real enemy is Satan himself. The Book of Revelation calls Satan “that ancient serpent” (going back to Genesis Chapter 3)…This means we're in an ancient war, against an ancient enemy, and therefore Christians should understand themselves as spiritual warriors. That's Arrowsmith's main point, and it's a good one. And what I find fascinating about it is that in 17th century Europe nobody heard him explain this and thought he was being too intense. Nobody thought he was forcing the framework. And so if we hear it and we think he's being too extreme, it's probably because we're the ones living in the bubble … Understand most of human history has been marked by suffering and violence …And it's not just that life itself is hard, but it's that for most humans throughout history, they've understood what it means to have enemies— I don't mean metaphorical enemies; not merely ideological enemies. But I'm talking about real, physical enemies who are active threats. That category has been normal for most people historically, and so the concept of the Christian life as warfare makes sense to them. … And I believe it'll make more sense to us the more we are shaped by the Bible. That's what we're gonna see this morning. Looking at Psalm 109, I want to show you four facts about Christian warfare. These facts were true when David wrote this psalm; they were true in the 17th century when Arrowsmith wrote his book; and they're true right now — so we can't afford not to know these things. The first fact is this:1. There are enemies of Christ. Right away we see that Psalm 109 is about enemies. Verse 1 opens: “Be not silent, O God of my praise! For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me, speaking against me with lying tongues …”This is obvious opposition. Then in verse 6, there's still plural enemies, but a singular enemy comes into view and verse 8 says:“May his days be few; may another take his office!”“May his days be few; may another take his office!”Now if you've recently read the Book of Acts in the New Testament, that might sound familiar to you. That's because in Acts Chapter 1, one of the first things Peter does after Jesus's resurrection, is he tells the other disciples that they need to replace Judas (remember Jesus had twelve disciples, but Judas betrayed Jesus and hung himself, so they were down to eleven disciples). And the reason Peter gives for replacing Judas is Psalm 109, verse 8. This is Acts 1:15 — there were 120 brand-new Christians altogether, and Peter says:Hey, everyone, we need to replace Judas because the Holy Spirit spoke by the mouth of David concerning Judas that another should take his office.Peter quotes Psalm 109:8, which means that Peter (and the other early Christians), who had been trained by Jesus how to read the Old Testament, they interpreted the enemy in Psalm 109 to be Judas. This is amazing! Now I wanna show you how they get there …Psalm 109 is a Psalm of David, and as we've seen many times before, David writes the psalms as a type of Christ. He writes from own situations, but he also looks forward in time, and the Holy Spirit, through David's original voice, speaks as the voice of the Messiah. That's what's happening in Psalm 109. So we should read this psalm as prayed ultimately by Jesus himself. The enemies described here are not just enemies of David, the Anointed One, but they're enemies of David's Son, the ultimate Anointed One. Psalm 109 is about the enemies of the true Messiah. It's about the enemies of Christ. Archetypal Enemy And focus is on Judas as the singular enemy because Judas became the ringleader of those who crucified Jesus. Peter says in Acts 1:16 that Judas was their guide. Judas became the lead human instrument of Satan's schemes — we know from the Gospel accounts! They tell us that Satan entered Judas (Luke 22:3; John 13:2, 27). And so to this day, Judas is an archetype of an enemy of Christ. He's the head representative. Every enemy of Christ ever since has been cut from that same cloth. So, like Judas, enemies of Christ become people in whom Satan has his way. They oppose the message of Christ and the people of Christ, and they distort the truth of Christ. And we see this already throughout the New Testament. The apostle John calls this the “spirit of antichrist” (1 John 4:3) — it's the ongoing satanic pattern of hatred for Jesus. There are people in this world who hate Jesus and hate his people. And of course we know this because Jesus has told us this in the Gospel of John.So it's first fact we gotta nail down: there are enemies of Christ.Second fact about our warfare is …2. The enemies of Christ speak evil. Now when you think of the enemies of Christ, you might imagine all kinds of terrible things these enemies do, but it's important to see in Psalm 109 that the main evil of these enemies has to do with what they say. Ten different times we read that the enemies of Christ have: Deceitful mouths, lying tongues, they speak words of hate, they accuse, they curse, they speak evil.We see this actively in the Gospels, in the trial of Jesus; we see this in those who reviled Jesus when he was on the cross; we see this in Judas when he conspired against Jesus — he used words. We also see this today in how the enemies of Christ oppose his people. Now none of this should surprise us because Jesus called Satan “a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). That was Satan's way from the start in the Garden of Eden, and it's happening now. The enemies of Christ — those in whom Satan has his way — they most resemble Satan with their words. Their messaging. They are liars.Falsehood. Deception. Half-truths. Spinning truths. Full-out distortions. Blatant contradictions. Or as they say in Australia, bull-DUST — all of that is speaking evil. And there is something especially Satanic about it … And in this country, you're technically free to do it. Just understand that freedom of speech doesn't mean that the words you speak are harmless to your soul. Words have consequences. And every word ever spoken against Jesus Christ will be punished.I remember as a kid something Jesus said really got my attention. It's Matthew 12:36. Jesus says, “I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak…”Jesus said that. And if people will be held accountable for their careless words, how much more the enemies of Christ for their words against Christ? That's the third fact.3. God will curse the enemies of Christ. The bulk of Psalm 109 is an imprecatory prayer. An imprecatory prayer is when you ask God to curse someone. I counted 23 curses (or imprecations) in this psalm — that's 23 petitions where David, in the voice of Messiah, is asking God to curse his enemies. Now we'd be sidetracked if all of a sudden we make the topic here about whether or not we can pray imprecatory prayers. (Of course we can. They're in the Bible! And if you want to read more about it, I encourage you to go check out a sermon I preached a few years ago on Psalm 58 titled, “How to Pray Imprecations.”)But for this morning, there's something more important for us to see. Most of the curses are in verses 6–20, but the direct center of the psalm is verse 17. Here's verse 17: He [the enemy of Christ] … He loved to curse; let curses come upon him! He did not delight in blessing; may it be far from him!So the Messiah is asking God the Father to curse his enemies who tried to curse him. And if you're a reader of Scripture, this makes total sense — Jesus is just asking God to do what God already promised. Because way back in the Book of Genesis, God promised Abraham, Genesis 12:3, I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you [or curses you] I will curse …God said that! And this promise becomes a covenantal thread that runs all the way through the Old Testament and finally reaches its fulfillment in Jesus. Jesus becomes the ultimate dividing line between blessing and curse — are you with him or against him? That's the question. And if you're against him, God will curse you.And then the apostle Paul applies this same logic to the church.Applied to the ChurchPaul tells the church in Thessalonica that “God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you” (2 Thessalonians 1:6). God the Father says it is right to curse those who curse the church. This is a big deal. And I can't help but imagine that when Paul wrote those words, he remembered the very first thing Jesus ever said to him. This in Acts Chapter 9, on the road to Damascus, when the old Paul was on his way to persecute Christians. Remember Jesus appeared to him and said:“Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”Paul said, “Who are you?”Jesus said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting?”You get that? Jesus identifies himself so completely with his church that the persecution of them is persecution of him.So for the enemies of Christ who afflict his church, God the Father will afflict them. And Jesus prays for that. Look, the main thing we need to know about these curses in Psalm 109 is that they will happen whether we pray for them or not. Psalm 109 is about what will be.The Father has promised it. The Son has requested it. God will curse the enemies of Christ. That is a fact about Christian warfare. Here's the last one. In this warfare …4. God will magnify his glory by saving his people. In the midst of this opposition, as these enemies are set against him, the Messiah prays for God to deliver him. We read this in verse 21, and this a verse that you gotta see. So y'all help me out. Find Psalm 109, verse 21:But you, O God my Lord, deal on my behalf for your name's sake; because your steadfast love is good, deliver me!Now skip down to verse 26: Help me, O Lord my God! Save me according to your steadfast love! Let them know that this is your hand; you, O Lord, have done it!I want you to see here that the Messiah's not just asking for God to save him, he's asking for God to be glorified. He's saying: Save me because of who you are! Save me for your name's sake!Save me because of your steadfast love! And save me in such a way that my enemies know it's you!Make it clear that my salvation is from your hand! Now, how might God do that? What kind of salvation would require God to do what nobody else can do?What kind of enemy could God defeat that makes people say … “wow!”?If there's one place where we know for sure “vain is the salvation of man” it's the grave. Death is the enemy that no man can outrun, no army can defeat, no power on earth can reverse. Nobody raises themselves from the dead. But do you know what God can do?On the third day, God the Father raised Jesus from the dead. It was only by his hand. God did that! We see this confidence all throughout the Psalms in the voice of the Messiah:O Yahweh, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit. (30:3)You will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption! (16:10) You, God, will ransom my soul from the power of the grave! (49:15)God is the one who resurrects. God alone! It's true of physical resurrection, and it's true of spiritual resurrection … I hope you know that if you're a Christian it's because God did that. The Bible tells us that spiritually speaking, left to ourselves, we're all in graves. Ephesians 2:1, “And you were dead in your trespasses and sins…” Dead! — Therefore, God has to be the one to spiritually resurrect us, and he did! That's why God gets the glory! “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9)Christian, don't pat yourself on the back for being a Christian, but thank God he made you alive! Thank God that he has worked a miracle in you! God did that!Be humbled and happy! That's how we live as Christians for the glory of God.God magnifies his glory by saving his people … he raised Jesus from the dead, he raises his church from spiritual death, and one day he will raise our bodies from the grave and make us like Jesus, with him, forever. But until then, church, it's warfare. We are, for now, the church militant. In this life we cling to Jesus by faith behind enemy lines, and we fight everyday against the world, the flesh, and the devil. Why did God do it this way? You ever think about this? What if God had made it so that at our conversion, we get instant, complete triumph? No more struggle. No more enemies. Just instant heaven. Wouldn't that be nice! Why does God leave us here to fight?John Arrowsmith asked that question. This is what he said: [In our fight,] God directs and ordains the wickedness of Satan and the unrighteous such that they result in His glory, [and his glory is manifest in] the advantage of His church, and the destruction of the wicked at the day of the Lord. (120)That's not an easy answer, but it's true. That's how we should think about the enemies of Christ: God has ordained it all for the maximum display of his glory, which is the maximum joy of his people. Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” “Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen. This is what brings us to the TableThe TableWe come here each week to remember the death of Jesus. By the death of Jesus, God's love was poured out for us. By his resurrection, although we're at war, our victory is secured. And we come here to thank him. We thank Jesus for his death; we thank him that he's alive; and we thank him for making us alive. And hey, if you're here this morning and you're not a Christian … if you've not put your faith in Jesus, God can make you alive right now. Turn to Jesus and be spiritually resurrected. If that is your story, if you are a Christian, we invite you to eat and drink with us…

The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com Garth Heckman Spud Webb 5'7 In Junior high he went to try out and his coach told him to sit in the stands…. You are too short. Cut from his Junior year of BB and had to talk his coach into keeping him. He scored 20 points his first game. No Div. 1 college would even look at him. So he had to play at Midland College- lead them to a national JR league Championship, then got a scholarship to NC state. Every NBA scout scoffed. They said maybe he could play overseas or if he was lucky he could play with the Harlem Globetrotters. Every NBA team passed on him multiple times… He fell to the fifth round and was drafted by the Detroit pistons… and cut before the season ever started. He was “lucky” enough to be signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Hawks… At that time his star teammate Dominique Williams was the Slam dunk Champion… spud entered the contest and Dominique said he thought it was a joke and he would do layups… Spud won with numerous 360 slams, dunks off the backboard and Reverse slam dunks…. People laughed at him! He credits his belief in knowing God gave him that talent for a reason, and that dream for a purpose. My question today is: How will you respond when people laugh at your dream? Gen 18:1 And the LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day. 2 He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth 3 and said, “O Lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant.4 Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree,5 while I bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on—since you have come to your servant.” So they said, “Do as you have said.”6 And Abraham went quickly into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quick! Three seahs of fine flour! Knead it, and make cakes.7 And Abraham ran to the herd and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to a young man, who prepared it quickly.8 Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them. And he stood by them under the tree while they ate.9 They said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?” And he said, “She is in the tent.”10 The LORD said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him.11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in years. The way of women had ceased to be with Sarah.12 So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?”13 The LORD said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?'14 Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.”15 But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.” Rather than just "inappropriate" or "disrespectful," biblical scholars and linguists often look at Sarah's reaction in Genesis 18:12 through a few distinct lenses: 1. Incredulous Incredulity captures a mix of disbelief, shock, and impossibility. Sarah was roughly 90 years old, well past childbearing age, and had dealt with a lifetime of infertility. Hearing a stranger tell Abraham she would have a baby by the following year sounded biologically absurd. Abraham lives in a Spiritual and Theological worldview… Sarah lives in a physical biological world view… 2. Sarcastic (or Cynical) In Hebrew, Sarah's inner monologue reads as a self-deprecating scoff: "After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?" Describing her reaction as sarcastic or cynical highlights the defense mechanism of a woman who had likely given up hope decades prior and saw the statement as a cruel taunt or bad joke. 3. Human Her reaction was deeply human. It wasn't necessarily a malicious rebellion against God; it was an involuntary emotional slip—a defense mechanism triggered by years of grief, trauma, and disappointment over her barrenness. The Nuance: Her laugh isn't scoffing insolence; it's a reflex against emotional re-traumatization. When a deep, long-buried desire is suddenly brought up by a stranger, cynicism acts as armor to protect the heart from being broken one more time. The Insight: Faith doesn't require instantaneous emotional compliance. God engages directly with her reaction rather than striking her down, recognizing the pain behind her defense. 4. Prophetic In the broader arc of Genesis, her laughter is viewed as prophetic or foreshadowing. The Hebrew root for laugh (tzachaq) is the exact root used for the name of the child God promises: Isaac (Yitzchak), which literally means "he laughs" or "laughter". What began as the laugh of doubt in Genesis 18 transforms into the laugh of joy and wonder when Isaac is born in Genesis 21: "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me". Key takeaway: While her response is often labeled as "disbelief," calling it incredulous or sarcastic better captures her emotional reality, while calling it prophetic reveals the literary wordplay embedded in the text. MAYBE OUR REACTION SHOULD MATCH *TO SOME DEGREE …SARAHS… WHY? WHY WOULD GOD USE ABRAHAM A MAN OF MANY FAULTS? Failure 1: Deception in Egypt Age ~75 (Gen 12:10–20) The Misstep: When a severe famine strikes Canaan, Abram migrates to Egypt without seeking divine direction. Fearing the Egyptians will kill him for his beautiful wife, he asks Sarai to lie and say she is his sister. The Fallout: Pharaoh takes Sarai into his royal palace as a concubine while enriching Abram. God strikes Pharaoh's household with severe plagues. Upon discovering the truth, Pharaoh rebukes Abram for his deceit and expels his family from Egypt. Separation from Lot & Rescue Age ~75–80 (Gen 13–14) As their livestock herds grow too large for the land to support both of them, quarreling breaks out between Abram's and Lot's herdsmen. Abram generously gives Lot first pick WITHOUT SEEKING GOD - Lot gets captured. The Unconditional Covenant Age ~85 (Gen 15) Abram voices concern that he remains childless and his servant Eliezer will inherit his house. God reassures Abram that a biological son will be his heir and cuts a formal covenant with him, promising descendants as numerous as the stars. Failure 2: Scheming with Hagar Age 85–86 (Gen 16) The Misstep: After living in Canaan for ten years without a child, Sarai proposes that Abram take her Egyptian servant, Hagar, as a surrogate mother. Abram agrees without seeking God's guidance, taking matters into his own hands to force the fulfillment of the promise. The Fallout: Once Hagar becomes pregnant, domestic conflict erupts. Hagar despises Sarai, Sarai mistreats Hagar, and Abram washes his hands of the dispute. Hagar flees into the wilderness before an angel instructs her to return. She gives birth to Ishmael when Abram is 86. The Covenant of Circumcision & Abraham's Internal Doubt Age 99 (Gen 17) The Moment of Disbelief: After 13 years of silence, God appears, renames Abram to Abraham ("Father of a Multitude") and Sarai to Sarah ("Princess"), and institutes circumcision as the covenant sign. When God explicitly states that Sarah herself will bear a son within a year, Abraham falls face down and laughs to himself, asking mentally: "Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at ninety?" (Gen 17:17). The Three Visitors at Mamre & Sarah's Laugh Age 99 (Gen 18:1–15) Three divine visitors visit Abraham under the oaks of Mamre. The Lord repeats the divine pledge: "I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son." Overhearing this from inside the tent entrance, Sarah laughs to herself, thinking about her advanced age and physical state. When the Lord asks why she laughed and whether anything is too hard for God, Sarah denies it out of fear, but the Lord responds: "No, you did laugh." MAYBE SARAH IS LAUGHING KNOWING WHO HER HUSBAND REALLY IS? BECAUSE EVEN AFTER THIS VISITATION FROM GOD…. King Abimelech (Genesis 20:1–18) The Outcome: Abimelech takes Sarah into his harem. However, God appears to Abimelech in a dream, warning him that Sarah is married and that he will die if he touches her. Abimelech protests that he acted in good faith, returns Sarah untouched, gives Abraham restitution, and asks why Abraham did this. Pattern in Abraham's Failures Across these 24 years, Abraham's missteps shared a common theme: self-preservation and impatience. BUT LETS ASK OURSELVES A QUESTION: Regardless of how Sarah saw her husband Abraham - regardless of how we see him… How did God see him? Names and Titles Given to Abraham Abraham ("Father of a Multitude"): Originally named Abram ("Exalted Father"), God personally renamed him in Genesis 17:5 to reflect his ultimate destiny: "No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations." "My Friend": God personally refers to Abraham as His friend in Isaiah 41:8 ("Abraham My friend"), a title affirmed throughout Scripture (2 Chronicles 20:7, James 2:23). Prophet: In Genesis 20:7, God speaks to King Abimelech regarding Abraham, stating, "Restore the man's wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live." "My Servant": God repeatedly refers to Abraham with honor as His servant (Genesis 26:24, Psalm 105:6), marking him as a trusted agent of the Divine will. The Promises and Blessings Spoken Over Him Divine Shield and Great Reward: Infinite Descendants: Royal Lineage and Multiplied Nations: Universal Blessing for All Humanity: Divine Protection: An Everlasting Land Covenant: SARAH MAY HAVE LAUGHED AT FIRST IN DISBELIEF - BUT 3. Sarah's later reversal is the untold "second half" of the story. But Genesis 21:6 gives Sarah's own commentary once Isaac is born: "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me." She takes the very word she used in doubt and reclaims it in worship. Isaac's name literally means "he laughs." This is a remarkable narrative arc — cynical laughter transformed into worshipful laughter — FINAL THOUGHT: WHY DID GOD CHOOSE ABRAHAM? IN SPITE OF ALL HIS FLAWS HE PRACTICED GODS HEART AND DESIGN FOR PRAYER. What do I mean? Gen. 18 later in the chapter God tells Abraham I am going to destroy Sodom and Gomorra and Abraham does something very familiar according to Luke 11. Luke 11 tells us how to pray - AFTER SHARING THE LORDS PRAYER JESUS SAYS SOMETHING AWKWARD ABOUT PRAYER - A parable. A man goes to his friends house - he needs 3 loaves of bread… he will not give up asking. If you ask seek knock - out of sheer perseverance I will answer! Abraham here in Gen. 18 does just that for Sodom and Gomorra - showing Gods heart for the lost. 50 45 40 30 20 10! I believe one of the greatest clues is given in these two stories in scripture about who God uses! The one that will not give up asking God to fulfill his purpose! WHAT IF WE UNDERSTOOD THE STORY OF ABRAHAM LIKE THIS: Yes he was a heap of missteps, failures, a massive example of weak humanity…. But in all his mistakes and failures he never quit asking God for that son! FOR THAT ANSWERED PRAYER. WILL YOU BE THE ONE WHO P.U.S.H.es into God. P - pray U - until S - something H - happens?
In this episode we go in depth looking at the account of Jacob's deception of his father Isaac and we look at a parallel passage hiding in an unsuspecting place. Although reading in English we can easily miss it, in Hebrew we look at the many connections that exist between Jacob's deception and the Ten Commandments and see what this connection and his deception can teach us today!

Welcome to Day 2931 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain and today is Day 2931 – Theology Thursday – Ascended Masters and the Return of Ancient Spiritual Deception Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2931 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2931 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Our current series of Theology Thursday lessons is written by theologian and teacher John Daniels. I have found that his lessons are short, easy to understand, doctrinally sound, and applicable to all who desire to learn more of God's Word. John's lessons are available on his website, theologyinfive.com. Ascended Masters and the Return of Ancient Spiritual Deception. New Age spirituality often presents Ascended Masters as enlightened beings who have transcended the physical world and now guide humanity toward higher consciousness. They are portrayed as wise, compassionate, and spiritually advanced figures who offer secret knowledge and personal transformation. When examined through Scripture and the ancient Near Eastern background, however, a different picture emerges. The Bible warns that there are spiritual beings who appear helpful and radiant, yet work to separate people from Yahweh. Ascended Masters fit that pattern, not as neutral spiritual guides, but as part of a long-running rebellion that began before the flood and continues in new forms today. The first segment is: The Deceptive Nature of Ascended Masters. Ascended Masters are marketed as safe and uplifting. They are said to counsel humans through channeling, visions, or inner impressions. Their messages often focus on spiritual evolution, self-divinization, or the discovery of a hidden inner light. The language sounds spiritual and positive, but the focus is consistently on bypassing repentance, ignoring the cross, and redefining salvation as self-awakening rather than reconciliation with Yahweh through Jesus Christ. This is exactly how deception works. It does not usually present itself as open hatred of Yahweh. It offers a more attractive version of spirituality that keeps people from the truth while convincing them that they have advanced beyond traditional faith. The second segment is: Scriptural Warnings Against Spiritual Deception. Scripture is not naïve about the reality of spiritual beings. It presents a populated spiritual world that includes loyal servants of Yahweh and hostile rebels. Paul warns that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light in second Corinthians 11 verse fourteen. This does not mean deception always looks dark and frightening. It often looks beautiful, insightful, and compassionate. John warns believers to test the spirits in first John 4 verse one because not every spiritual encounter originates from Yahweh. Jesus warns about false prophets who come in sheep's clothing while inwardly they are ravenous wolves. The consistent message is that spiritual claims must be measured against the revelation of Yahweh in Scripture because there are real spirits that lie about who He is and what salvation requires. The third segment is: The Apkallu and the Corrupted Wisdom of the Pre-Flood World. Ancient Mesopotamian tradition speaks of the apkallu, semi-divine sages associated with the distant past. These figures were remembered as culture bringers who taught humanity skills and knowledge. Second Temple Jewish writings like Enoch interpret this history through the lens of Genesis 6. The problem was never that humanity learned to build, create, or think. Yahweh intended humans to develop culture as part of their calling to steward creation. The problem was that rebel sons of God twisted good things into corrupted forms that led to sin, violence, idolatry, and oppression. Enoch describes how the Watchers taught humans sorcery, occult practices, weapon making for conquest, seductive arts for exploitation, and forms of knowledge that distorted Yahweh's design. The apkallu traditions preserve a memory of powerful spiritual instruction, but they celebrate what Scripture identifies as spiritual corruption. Instead of leading humanity toward loyalty to Yahweh, these beings led humanity into a world filled with bloodshed and perversion. Ascended Masters follow the same pattern. They present themselves as ancient teachers who offer advanced wisdom, but the wisdom is detached from submission to Yahweh and from the redemption found only in Christ. The fourth segment is: Daimones and the Disembodied Spirits of the Nephilim. Second Temple Judaism drew a clear distinction between the rebel sons of God and the spirits that came from their offspring. The Nephilim, produced by the union of the Watchers and human women, were physical tyrants who filled the earth with violence. When they died, their bodies perished, but their spirits remained. Enoch, Jubilees, and related material describe these spirits as wandering, hostile beings that have no place in heaven or in Sheol. They become the evil spirits that harass, deceive, and seek embodiment among humans. This background explains the behavior of demons in the New Testament. They are restless, unclean, tied to idolatry, and eager to inhabit bodies. The Greeks, looking back on very ancient memories, spoke of daimones, spirits of heroes and intermediaries between gods and humans. They viewed some daimones as wise and helpful, but their literature shows that they also feared them. Greek tragedies portrayed daimones as forces of madness and vengeance. Plato described some daimones as morally inferior and capable of misleading people. Ordinary Greeks offered sacrifices to daimones not because they trusted them, but because they believed these spirits could harm them if ignored. This hesitation aligns with the Biblical perspective that these beings were not benevolent guides but corrupted spirits whose influence brought confusion and deception. When New Age spirituality invokes Ascended Masters or enlightened guides, it is inviting contact with the same class of beings that Scripture identifies as malicious spirits. The daimones are the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim, not loyal spiritual beings. They present themselves as sources of wisdom because deception is their strategy and flattery is their tool. The fifth segment is: Ancient Near Eastern Spiritual Beings and Modern Rebranding. The ancient world did not forget these encounters. After the flood, the nations continued to honor spiritual beings that claimed to guide kings and shape cultures. Mesopotamian kings traced their legitimacy back to the wisdom of the apkallu. The Greeks spoke of daimones and heroic spirits that inspired philosophy, poetry, and religion. The language changed as cultures changed, yet the core idea remained. Humanity looked to powerful non-human intelligences for secret knowledge and spiritual authority. New Age spirituality is simply the latest brand. Ascended Masters are said to be ancient teachers from Atlantis, Lemuria, or past civilizations. They speak with the same voice as the old sages, promising higher consciousness, unity, and godlike potential. The message is always a crossless spirituality that offers power without repentance, transformation without Christ, and wisdom without the fear of Yahweh. Scripture recognizes this pattern as the ongoing strategy of rebel spirits and the disembodied Nephilim, dressed in language designed to appeal to modern seekers. The sixth segment is: The Age of Aquarius and the Longing for the Pre-Flood World. The modern idea of the Age of Aquarius claims that humanity is entering a new era of enlightenment marked by unity, spiritual evolution, and global harmony. This expectation is rooted in ancient Greek astrology and mystery religion, where history was believed to move in repeating cycles. The Greeks taught that a future age would restore the Golden Age of the distant past. They believed that before the flood, humanity lived in harmony under the guidance of divine beings and heroic spirits. From the pagan perspective, this earlier era was a utopia shaped by the wisdom of the gods. The Biblical worldview tells a very different story. The pre-flood world was defined by the corruption of the Watchers and the violence of the Nephilim. It was a time of judgment, not paradise. The Age of Aquarius repeats the pagan memory of that era, not the biblical one. It promises the return of ancient spiritual teachers and the restoration of pre-flood wisdom, presenting the same temptation to gain knowledge apart from Yahweh. The

Why are some of the smartest people in culture also the most vulnerable to deception? Lance Wallnau breaks down the biblical reason IQ was never designed to be a defense against being deceived, and why he says humility, not intelligence, is the real safeguard. Using the story of two priests, Zadok and Abiathar, who both passed an early test of loyalty but were split apart by a much harder second test, Lance explains how deception works its way into even the most brilliant minds. He points to high level thinkers he's debated personally, unpacks why "the fear of the Lord" functions as spiritual protection where intellect fails, and connects it to Malachi 3:16-18 and a lesser known end times prophecy in Ezekiel 44 about a faithful remnant that stays discerning when others drift. What actually protects you from deception, if not intelligence? In this episode: * Why IQ was never designed to be a safeguard against deception, and what Lance says protects you instead * The story of Zadok and Abiathar, two priests who passed the first loyalty test but were split apart by a second, harder one * Malachi 3:16-18, the "deliverance verse" for the end times, and what it says about those who fear the Lord * The end times prophecy in Ezekiel 44 about a faithful "Zadok priesthood" that stays discerning when others fall away * The "plumb line" anointing: what it is, how to develop it, and why proximity to God's purposes depends on staying close to it Podcast Episode 2215: Why People with High IQs are Especially Vulnerable to Deception | don't miss this! In this hard-hitting episode, Joe exposes the conjoined crises threatening American sovereignty: a hopelessly convoluted election system designed to foster distrust, and a radical political apparatus actively dismantling rule of law. Starting in Antrim County, Michigan, and tracing through Delaware County, Pennsylvania, Joe breaks down how middle-of-the-night vote flips, missing machine tapes, and ransomware cover-ups are not mere glitches, but symptoms of a compromised framework. Joined by whistleblower Regina Miller, the show pulls back the curtain on chain-of-custody violations, altered records, and election officials actively destroying evidence while federal authorities look the other way.The breakdown goes far beyond election mechanics, pivoting directly to the political motives driving the confusion. Joe examines the stark disconnect between elite political rhetoric and the reality on the ground—highlighting how Republican infighting and F-rated liberty scores enable a system where basic safeguards like the SAVE Act and clean voter rolls are actively blocked. With local law enforcement pushing back against systemic refusal to audit, the show establishes how a lack of machine transparency directly erodes citizen trust in our governing institutions.Joe uncovers the radical agenda benefiting from this broken system. From Democratic Socialists framing the U.S. Constitution as an "obstacle" to revolution, to official DNC resolutions calling for the abolition of ICE and top governors pushing to dissolve the Electoral College, the pattern is undeniable. Between the catastrophic human cost of open-border policies and the complete capture of local governance by non-assimilated leadership, Joe delivers an unvarnished look at a nation pushed to the brink—and demands accountability before our sovereignty is lost for good.
