The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: Once again, as bad as Laredo's, we get county leadership and media engaging in deception on property tax “rate” setting designed to make voters think local politicians have not been raising their property taxes. This time it's from KWTX and McLennan County leadership: McLennan County proposes first property tax rate increase in years, citing public safety and rising costs. For the 10,000th time: Talking about a “tax rate” for the coming year in comparison to a previous year's “tax rate” is meaningless. The new rate only has meaning when compared to the No New Revenue Tax Rate, formerly the Effective Tax Rate. Learn more here. Learn a lot more here. Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.Texas has a new Comptroller of Public Accounts as Don Huffines took office on Saturday. Hopefully Huffines will put pressure on local governments to stop lying about tax rates in relation to tax increases or decreases. In what reminds me of California a few decades ago, due to political pressure from afraid of growth and investment people, Governor Abbott has put up yet another hurdle in front of investment in Texas to build computing centers. It may just be reporting but it raises the cost of investing in Texas and does not fit the Texas Miracle model.Austin could gain 40,000 aerospace and defense jobs in coming years. In this episode of John Solomon Reports, host John Solomon confronts the shocking revelations surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and the misinformation that has permeated public discourse. Solomon reflects on recent comments from Dr. Harvey Risch, highlighting how internal documents revealed the lethality rate of COVID-19 was significantly overstated, akin to that of the flu. This misrepresentation led to widespread panic, mask mandates, and lockdowns that profoundly impacted American society.Solomon dives deep into the consequences of these false narratives, drawing parallels to other significant misinformation campaigns, including the narratives surrounding Hunter Biden and the 2020 election. He emphasizes the urgent need for accountability and transparency in public health, particularly regarding the effectiveness and safety of vaccines.Listeners will hear an exclusive interview with Dr. Robert Redfield, former CDC director under Trump, who candidly discusses the mistakes made during the pandemic and the critical need for informed consent in medical decisions. Redfield's insights provide a sobering look at the challenges faced by health authorities and the implications for personal health safety.Additionally, Solomon introduces Libby Emmons, editor-in-chief of the Post Millennial, who shares her perspective on the intersection of culture and politics, shedding light on the stories that shape our national narrative. The episode wraps up with a health segment featuring Field of Greens, promoting wellness as summer comes to a close.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Amanda Mason is a senior curator of contemporary conflict at the Imperial War Museums, where she previously worked on the museum's acclaimed Secret War gallery. Chris speaks with her about Spies, Lies and Deception, the IWM's major exhibition on espionage and military deception now showing at IWM North in Manchester until August 31. Drawing on more than sixty original objects, documents, and artifacts — from Operation Mincemeat's pocket litter and Noor Inayat Khan's letters from occupied France to the Portland Spy Ring's suburban cover and the Trent Park eavesdropping operation — the exhibition traces deception from the trenches of the First World War through Cold War suburbia to Bellingcat's open-source unmasking of the Salisbury poisoners and today's deepfake threats, asking not just how deception works but what it costs the people who practice it. Rana Gujral is the former CEO of Behavioral Signals and the author of the upcoming book The AI Instinct. During his time leading Behavioral Signals, Rana has led a company built on a contrarian bet: that the words in a conversation are the least interesting part of it, and that the real signal, intent, trust, stress, deception, lives in how something is said rather than what is said. His team has mapped roughly 75 to 100 behavioral dimensions in the human voice, work that now powers everything from deepfake detection for government agencies to a matching system that pairs call center customers with the agents they are most likely to have a natural, flowing conversation with. Liam and Rana dig into the unconscious vocal tells we all give off, why pitch compression, not raised volume, is the real signature of suppressed stress, and how studying voice for eight years changed the way Rana himself talks and listens. They also get into the ethics of emotion AI, including why the EU has banned it from workplaces, and the central idea behind Rana's book: that large language models are missing an entire axis called experience. Rana introduces his concept of Artificial General Experience, or AGE, and makes the case that the real fork in the road for AI isn't intelligence versus replacement, it's whether these systems make us more ourselves or less. Key Topics Covered Why Behavioral Signals bet on voice as a behavioral signal instead of a language signal The 75 to 100 dimensions of emotion, intent, and cognitive state hidden in a voice How deepfake detection works when a synthetic voice is good enough to fool a mother Surprising commercial uses of voice AI in marketing, call centers, and fraud detection The science of compatibility: why some conversations click and others feel like effort What 8 years of studying voice changed about how Rana communicates The unconscious vocal tells that give away hesitation and suppressed stress Why the EU banned emotion AI in workplaces, and where Rana draws his own ethical line The idea behind Rana's book, The AI Instinct, and why AGI is the wrong question to ask Artificial General Experience (AGE): the missing piece between intelligence and judgment Where augmentation ends and replacement begins, from GPS to Neuralink The geopolitical inequality of who gets access to the most capable AI tools Episode Timestamps 00:00 - Introduction 00:09 - The contrarian bet: voice as a behavioral signal, not a language signal 02:51 - Mapping 75 to 100 dimensions of emotion, intent, and cognitive state 06:07 - Commercial uses beyond law enforcement: marketing, call centers, fraud detection 10:35 - The science of compatibility and conversational entrainment 13:35 - Beyond voice: body language, physiology, and why voice is the primary channel 16:42 - How 8 years of studying voice changed Rana's own communication 19:32 - The unconscious vocal tells everyone gives off 23:40 - Pitch compression: the real signature of suppressed stress 23:53 - The ethics of emotion AI: EU AI Act, modulation vs manipulation 27:08 - Why Rana wrote The AI Instinct 30:04 - Artificial General Experience (AGE) and what LLMs are missing 33:59 - How lived experience dynamically updates memory and meaning 38:04 - Why the goal isn't to build machines that are more human 40:50 - Augmentation vs replacement: where the line gets drawn 43:55 - Purpose, meaning, and the risk of frictionless cognition 51:23 - What we should be teaching the next generation 56:01 - The geopolitical inequality of AI access 59:11 - What Rana hopes readers take from The AI Instinct 1:02:32 - Where to find Rana and the book Rana's website: https://ranagujral.com/ Rana's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ranagujral/ Partner Links Upgrade your AI toolkit: https://www.theaireport.ai/ai-executive-pass Subscribe to our free newsletter: https://newsletter.theaireport.ai/subscribe Join the community: https://community.theaireport.ai/checkout/the-ai-report-welcome-gift?coupon_code=WRTH Learn more about your ad choices. Drew has been dragged to dry land by Gio and unleashed on Port Charles. Oh, how sweet were the days when he sat silently on the edge of a room. And somehow Willow has become insufferable now that Jack and Nina have helped her escape the consequences of drugging the sea monster. But have they? He's very angry. Speaking of angry, Gia and Keisha are not enjoying the new Ethan. He's not good enough for Ava. And Curtis is not good enough for Des. Grow up, Curtis! Also, Marshall is back, and his hat is still small. Meanwhile, Lucy has summoned Serena back to Port Charles to help her wrestle control of Deception away from the Quartermaines. Listen as Dr Adam shares that true transformation requires steadfast devotion to daily sanctification.
If we fail to get a love of the Word of God deep down in our hearts, then we are apt to sin against it when we are deceived by temptation.
Deception is not always obvious. It often contains elements of truth, uses familiar language, appeals to emotions, and sounds reasonable. This is why Christians must learn to test every message by the Word of God. In this episode of Contending for the Word Q&A, Dave Jenkins examines 1 John 4:1 and explains how believers can recognize deceptive ideas in culture, media, false teaching, and even their own assumptions. He also provides four practical ways Christians can grow in biblical discernment: knowing Scripture deeply, requiring biblical grounding, thinking carefully about what they hear, and asking God for wisdom. God has not left His people without guidance. His Word provides the clear and unchanging standard Christians need to distinguish truth from error. Sovereign Grace Bible Church of Ada, OK

Opener With so much information available today (podcasts, social media, news), how do you personally decide which commentators or public figures you can trust? Have you ever believed something in the past that you later realized was completely untrue or misleading? What helped you realize the truth? Scripture The Voice of the Good Shepherd Read John 10:1–5, 11–15 How do the sheep learn to recognize the Shepherd’s voice so well that they flee from strangers? What is the difference between how the Good Shepherd treats the flock versus how a “hired hand” treats the flock (vv. 12–13)? What are some “stranger voices” in our culture today that try to pull Christians away from the way of Jesus? The Same Spirit Read John 14:12–17 and Acts 3:12–16 How does realizing that Jesus performed His ministry in total dependence on the Holy Spirit change how you view your own daily life and ministry? Jesus promised that His followers would carry on His work through the Holy Spirit. How does the Holy Spirit give us confidence and discernment in a confused culture? Testing the Spirits Read 1 John 4:1–6 Why does John warn believers not to believe every spirit or spiritual claim? John points to the confession that “Jesus Christ has come in the flesh” as the key test (v. 2). Why is clarity on who Jesus is so foundational for a healthy church community? What does it look like in modern life to “test the spirits” without becoming overly cynical or suspicious of everyone? Greater is He Read 1 John 4:4 and 1 John 5:1–5 How does knowing that “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” give us confidence when facing spiritual confusion or cultural pressure? How does holding shared truth about Jesus actually protect unity in a church, rather than divide it? Application Is there a specific voice, media habit, or source of influence in your life that is causing spiritual confusion, anxiety, or division? What is one practical step you can take this week to “tune your ear” more consistently to the voice of Jesus? (Examples: daily Scripture reading, taking a fast from news/social media, reciting historic creeds, or discussing biblical topics with a mature believer.) Prayer Spend time praying for one another: Ask God to grant our church spiritual discernment and wisdom in an age of confusion. Pray that the Holy Spirit would empower us to carry out Jesus’ ministry of grace and truth. Thank Jesus for being our Good Shepherd who laid down His life for us. Pray Together: “Lord God, Spirit of Truth, give us ears to hear the voice of our Good Shepherd above all the noise of the world. Anchor our hearts in the reality of Jesus Christ—fully God, fully man, crucified and risen for us. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so we may live out Your truth and mission. Protect our community from deceptive voices and unify us around Your Gospel, so that we may walk together in confidence and peace. Amen.” Together: “We are one in Christ. We walk in the light. We love one another.”

In a 2014 deception detection study, Pete Blair made 33 judgments—and got all 33 right. That paper was titled “Expertise in deception detection involves actively prompting diagnostic information rather than passive behavioral observation.” I ask Pete about what the factors were in him getting 100% accuracy in that study, and we talk about the interplay between verbal and nonverbal behavior. Pete talks about the importance of context and domain knowledge in making high-confidence judgments, and he discusses how such insights will sometimes be based on aspects that we aren't consciously aware of. How should Christians respond when political movements, cultural ideologies, and competing worldviews dominate the headlines?Scripture commands believers to test every spirit, examine everything carefully, and hold fast to what is true.In this episode of The Final Hour, Jim Hammond, Lonaiah and John examine the growing influence of the Democratic Socialists of America, the historical connection between socialism and communism, government control, economic policy, and why biblical discernment has never been more important. Using passages from 1 John, 1 Thessalonians, Acts, Romans, Proverbs, and 2 Thessalonians, this discussion encourages believers to evaluate current events through the lens of God's Word rather than popular opinion.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In this episode of Crime Bit with Danelle Hallan, the disappearance of 20-year-old Heather Elvis becomes a chilling mystery built around obsession, jealousy, and a late-night call. What starts with a first date, a pay phone apology, and Heather driving to Peach Tree Landing quickly becomes an abandoned car, a missing phone and purse, a married man's lie, weeks of stalking, deleted Google data, a black truck near the boat ramp, a wiped security system, kidnapping convictions, and a family still waiting to bring Heather home. Dr. Anu Partap has spent decades caring for children and families at the intersection of medicine and child welfare. In this first part of Andrea's conversation with the foster care pediatrician, they explore what actually happens when children enter foster care, why reunification—not permanent separation—is the goal in most cases, and how trauma, poverty, and abuse create far more complex realities than the public often sees. *** Try out Andrea's Podcaster Coaching App: https://studio.com/apps/andrea/podcaster Order Andrea's book The Mother Next Door: Medicine, Deception, and Munchausen by Proxy: https://read.macmillan.com/lp/the-mother-next-door-9781250284273/ View our sponsors: https://www.nobodyshouldbelieveme.com/sponsors/ Remember that using our codes helps advertisers know you're listening and helps us keep making the show! Let's explore the historical evidence suggesting that early Christianity emerged from a wider religious current centered on ritual immersion and hidden knowledge rather than the traditional temple cult. No one is better suited for this heresy than Dr. Ray Taylor. He'll trace a lineage of secret gnosis and “living water” from the circle of John the Baptist through groups like the Elkasaites and ultimately into the dualistic synthesis of Manichaeism. By distinguishing between direct historical observation and later theological interpretations, we'll challenge the standard narrative of institutional continuity and examine how early baptismal traditions were eventually obscured by emerging orthodoxy. For decades, depression has often been described as the result of a chemical imbalance in the brain. But how strong is the evidence behind that idea? This episode explores one perspective on an area of medicine that continues to be actively debated and is intended to encourage thoughtful discussion—not to provide individualized medical advice. Today on The Dr. Hyman Show, I'm joined by psychiatrist and researcher Dr. Joanna Moncrieff to examine the science behind the serotonin theory and explore how it shaped modern mental health care. Together, we consider why rethinking our assumptions may open the door to a more complete understanding of depression and recovery. We discuss: • Whether depression is best understood through the lens of a chemical imbalance—or something far more complex • How the serotonin theory shaped modern psychiatry and why it's increasingly being questioned • What current research says about antidepressants, emotional numbing, and informed consent • Why lifestyle, nutrition, trauma, and social connection deserve a larger role in supporting mental health • How a more individualized, whole-person approach could change the way we think about depression and recovery Mental health treatment is deeply personal, and this episode explores one perspective on an area of medicine that continues to evolve. If you're currently taking antidepressants or other prescription medications, don't stop or change your treatment based on this discussion alone. Instead, use it as a starting point for an informed conversation with your healthcare provider. Learn More: Dr. Moncrieff recently participated in an FDA Expert Panel on SSRIs and Pregnancy. If you'd like to explore another perspective on the evidence discussed in this episode, you can watch the panel here. Al Sharpton and Ben Crump flew into Mississippi, hijacked 18-year-old Nolan Wells' funeral, and launched a shakedown targeting the state of Mississippi — and Jason Whitlock is calling it exactly what it is. This is the Jesse Jackson playbook, documented in Kenneth Timmerman's 2002 book "Shakedown," now being run by carpetbaggers who never knew Nolan Wells a single day in his life. Sharpton compared Wells to Emmett Till, Ben Crump is manufacturing a racial crisis, and Tyler Perry is already writing checks. The goal? A government contract for Sharpton's National Action Network. Jason Whitlock exposes the Mississippi looting, confronts a false prophet hiding behind a collar, and delivers the biblical reckoning Rev. Are software "patches" really the key to securing America's voting system—or just the latest administrative shell game designed to preserve a broken status quo? In this explosive episode, we dismantle recent media narratives around electronic voting machines and the fierce backlash ignited across the election integrity movement. Featuring sharp commentary from Joe, we break down why quick technical fixes fail to restore public trust and why the demand for truly free, fair, and transparent elections is stronger than ever.Joining the broadcast is David Clements, host of The Professor's Record, to deliver a hard-hitting analysis of what real political accountability must look like. Together, we expose the systemic gaslighting pushing through the political landscape—from Virginia Senator Mark Warner's shifting rhetoric on Voter ID to Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro's partisan attacks on election integrity advocates.Beyond the ballot box, the fallout of compromised leadership and unchecked deception is reaching a boiling point. We unpack the growing climate of division and unrest across the country, examining the dramatic arson attempt outside Lower Manhattan's federal court, radical posturing at the College Democrats convention, and severe international security warnings issued to Americans. Tune in for an unvarnished, high-stakes discussion on the chaos created by stolen trust—and what citizens must do to reclaim the nation.
Former CIA Targeting Officer Sarah Adams reveals what she believes are some of the biggest national security threats facing the United States today, and why many Americans may have a false sense of security about the future. In this episode of Mayim Bialik's Breakdown, Sarah explains why the U.S. could be more vulnerable to terrorist attacks than many realize, whether the U.S. is currently facing an active terrorist threat, and how the same types of intelligence disconnects that contributed to 9/11 could still exist today. She breaks down why we need to rethink what a future homeland attack might actually look like, how terrorist organizations are evolving, and why groups like Al Qaeda may be more widespread than ever.Sarah shares shocking insights into sleeper cells operating within the U.S., foreign actors intentionally fueling political division to increase influence, the strategic relationship between Al Qaeda, Iran, and Syria, and why many terrorist groups are now organized around waves of coordinated attacks. She also discusses emerging security concerns, including airport vulnerabilities, the return of threats similar to the Shoe Bomb and the rise of "invisible" bombs, and what she believes went wrong from a security standpoint during the White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting incident.Drawing from years spent targeting some of the world's most dangerous terrorists, Sarah recounts how she helped capture the Taliban's number two leader, the intelligence work that made it possible, and what qualities allowed her to gather critical information in some of the most hostile environments on Earth. We also explore intelligence deception campaigns, how disinformation operations work, and the warning signs people should recognize when evaluating information online.Sarah reveals what it was like to interrogate Middle Eastern male detainees as a Western woman, how individuals become radicalized, and the indoctrination systems inside terrorist camps that determine whether recruits become fighters, suicide bombers, propagandists, or support personnel. She explains how corruption within humanitarian systems can allow resources to be diverted toward terrorist organizations and how ordinary people may unknowingly contribute to funding foreign terrorist camps. We also break downHavana Syndrome, alleged energy weapon incidents, reports involving an investigator connected to the Epstein case, and what is currently known (and still unknown) about these controversial claims.Sarah also discusses the role of social media algorithms in radicalization, whether platforms like TikTok are shaping the opinions of younger generations, and the broader information war being fought online. She opens up about living under a bounty, receiving threats from terrorist organizations, dealing with alleged surveillance around her home, and how she manages the psychological stress that comes with being a target. She shares practical advice on disaster preparedness, what average citizens can do to become more resilient during crises, and why the culture of terrorism has far more to do with ideology, power, and human behavior than religion itself. This conversation will challenge the way you think about terrorism, national security, online influence, and the risks that could define the next decade!Sarah Adam's Podcast, The Watch Floor: https://www.youtube.com/@thewatchfloorSarah Adams' Book, Benghazi, Know Thy Enemy: A Cold Case Investigation: https://a.co/d/09aeb3tGFollow us on Substack for Exclusive Bonus Content: https://bialikbreakdown.substack.com/BialikBreakdown.comYouTube.com/mayimbialikSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Paul Skalnik was a cop turned con artist turned jailhouse informant. Over two decades, he provided testimony or information in more than 40 criminal cases, trading confessions he claimed to have overheard for reduced sentences and early release. Prosecutors in Florida's Pinellas County knew what he was. They used him anyway. Four of the men he testified against were sent to death row. At least one of them, Jim Dailey, is almost certainly innocent — and after more than 30 years, he's still there.Journalist Pam Colloff spent 20 years at Texas Monthly before joining ProPublica and the New York Times Magazine, where her investigation into Skalnik won the National Magazine Award and helped halt an execution. In this episode, Pam tells the story of a con man who married nine women, posed as an oilman, a lawyer, and an FBI agent — and discovered that his most profitable scam was the criminal justice system itself.Pam Colloff's new book is "Catch the Devil: A True Story of Murder, Deception, and Injustice on the Gulf Coast" https://www.amazon.com/dp/0593230868?lv=shuf&channelId=500&plpRedirect=mhFallbackSubscribe to our newsletter: https://jedlipinski.substack.com/ Connect with Jed Lipinski:https://www.instagram.com/gonesouthpodcast/https://www.facebook.com/groups/gonesouthpodcast/https://www.linkedin.com/in/jed-lipinski/
