This episode is pretty deep and aggressive, however I'm getting quite sick of people not understanding that we all have different views around what success is, and for most people I think it's making them suffer    As individuals we need to stop looking at other people's lives as being "successful" and start running our own race     Aaaanyway, I'm sure you'll get the point    These episodes are powerful and can seriously help people, so if they're resonating with you, please share them around. It would mean the world to me :)    You can also subscribe, rate, review and whatever else the kids do these days, and check out @_matt_grant_ for updates, information and to learn a bit more about me   MG

Dannii Minogue – Neon Nights (feat. Tom Aspaul)

Have you ever felt like you’re ever-so-slightly less-than? Do you ever get the sense that you’re living in someone else’s shadow? Have you, too, experienced that niggling sensation that there is somebody else – somebody more successful than you, more recognised, more universally revered – consistently beating you to the punch? OF COURSE YOU DO! You’re queer for christ sake, those feelings of inadequacy are literally engrained in us during childhood because of the systemic patriarchal dictatorship we’re born into! Aaaanyway, the silver lining that comes along with the feeling of never being quite good enough is that we get to identify with icons such as the legendary Miss Dannii Minogue. Persistently eclipsed by the dazzling fluorescence of her sister, the other Minogue has always struck a chord with members of the queer community due to her resillience and penchant for a filthy dancefloor banger. Neon Nights is her magnum opus. Fresh from the success of solo release "Who Do You Love Now?", Dannii worked with a swathe of dance producers to create an album that epitomises turn-of-the-century clubbing. Reminiscent of her fellow Class of 2003 alumni Stonebridge, and Angel City, Neon Nights boasts modern classics like "Put the Needle on It', "I Begin to Wonder" and "Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling". But how does the rest of the album stand up over 15 years later? It seems impossible to squeeze any more iconnery into one episode but somehow we've managed it, because this fortnight the boys are joined by bona fide pop prince Tom Aspaul. Known for collaborations with Viceroy and Aeble, and his I.C.O.N.I.C. cover of Brandy's "Full Moon", Tom pulled up a mic to discuss what Dannii means to him, and life as an out queer artist. My uploads have been delayed. I try to do night-of, but sometimes I upload next morning. That's why the track names have been weird. I also got the date wrong at some point while recording. I'm like a wobbly baby deer. Aaaanyway, Tuesday morning I left my girlfriend's preschool and caught someone coming from a 'meeting'. AA. She was wonderful and shared a little story with specifics and told a joke! Then I caught a man who's brain seems on the fritz. Then a gentleman who was very circumspect. And that's the game! Sorry they're so short. If this blows up, I'll interrupt the conversations about God/Allah/Jesus/Buddha/Bae to sell Casper mattresses, and then I can focus all day on recording. Thank you!

HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA: An Obscure Music History Christmas

Tom has a candid interview with music historian (and regular guest) George Greggenmeyer, looking at several unorthodox holiday songs whose other work we'll be hearing from over the next few episodes. That includes vocal group The Pink Smudges, lovebird duo Mary L & James R, country hero Subtle Sam, and the spectacular Josh Cameline. || All songs are available on the EP "An Obscure Music History Christmas", available on Spotify and iTunes. https://open.spotify.com/album/2PbpWMYJskNdRUiokrKoja?si=A8t3UgrQTDeAZa3OYPQ4jw || Special thanks to Ellie Downing for the title "Leave A Glass Of Whiskey For Santa (Leave The Bottle Out For Me)". Additional thanks to Frank Loesser, as I used an arrangement of his for the horn blasts and the solo, which I converted to MIDI and tweaked around a bit. I couldn't get a reply from the two emails I found so... if you're out there Frank Loesser, get in touch and let's sort something out! || Added note: I refer to Jesus as "some bastard kid" during one of the songs - this was a reference to the Jewish tradition of Mary & Joseph being pledged to each other, but not technically "married", at the time of Jesus' birth (Although since writing and recording the song, I've come across some variations on the understanding of the pledging ceremony). It's a deep joke about religious semantics, but probably just comes across as an insult. I'd just thought I'd clear it up while I could. Incidentally, I think Jesus sounds like a pretty cool dude, and he had to have had a sense of humour to have such regular dedicated friends, so I think he'd probably just laugh it off with a bit of a "that's a terrible joke, now please pass the wine" kinda way. Aaaanyway, let's move on. || https://obscuremusichistory.com/The-Pink-Smudges-Leave-A-Glass-Of-Whiskey-For-Santa-1942

A special BONUS episode, in that we've not had time to do a proper one yet. Sorry. Aaaanyway. Jonn's been out of the office for a couple of weeks, reading books by a pool, and gradually taking on a mixed red, white and brown colour scheme more usually associated with Neapolitan ice cream. Consequently, we haven't had time to prepare a full episode, with all the guests and bells and whistles that we'd normally include. We'll be back next week. To tide you over, we thought we'd do a mini-episode about the place where Jonn spent his holidays. Miami is a beautiful art-deco sub-tropical paradise that is, almost certainly, doomed. By the end of this century, a combination of rising sea levels and unhelpful geography will combine to make much of South Florida uninhabitable. There's something quite debilitatingly horrifying to realise that you are holidaying in a place that, in your own lifetime, is probably going to die. So, a form of therapy, Jonn talks to Barbara about exactly why Miami is under threat –... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Nat, Mike and Dan are back after only a week, ain't it grand rocking into the old schedule? They'll be keeping this up for at very least the next six months because they bloody love it. And the show. Aaaanyway....In other news: It's the last ever Bodean's Mailbag folks because there's a new sheriff in town - a fine smelling one at that - in the form of Mancave and their awesome grooming products, something which needs surprisingly little explanation to the gang; prepare for much Mancave goodness over the coming months, starting next week; Mike talks French telly and its foibles; he and HdP are doing a new show this week too - Crime Vault Live and you're going to love it; Dan has seen Straight Outta Compton and has opinions about it; Nat talks about the legend Oliver Sacks; in the NBA Nick Young wants to be an Aussie; Kobe Bryant has an NBA2K16 rating of a mere 85; in the NFL Mike talks legal situations, brilliant names and starting quarterbacks so it could be pretty much any year; NHL is getting going with the NHLPA Rookie Showcase, gateway to the good stuff; Milan Lucic is the least grateful player ever to sign to the LA Kings or possibly any team; in the MLB Jake Arrieta of the Chicago Cubs threw a no-hitter against the Dodgers, his sixth this season;  the Blue Jays lead the Yankees narrowly in the AL East, the Royals are steamrolling their way to the central title, with the Astros 4 up over Texas in the central; loads of the usual goodness from the last ever Bodean's Mailbag and indeed much, much more...

Mike and Dan have lost Nat to NYC in the build up to some sporting event or other so be prepared for the channel 4 coverage to have plenty of cutaways with Nat singing 'if I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere...' while wearing C4 foam fingers. Aaaanyway, to help fill the gap left by N-Power's absence we've got Shortlist's sports editor, Bears fan and long-time friend of the show Mr Ben Isaacs. In other news: Ben's off to train with the Welsh rugby team and his recent gym usage has simply broken him rather than started to rebuild him - this could be the last time we see him; Dan met Gavin Henson once then spends time defending Charlotte Church; Mike mentions Nietsche and thing get strangely philosophical (hence the title, geddit?!); lots of pro bowl talk;lots of head coach talk; plenty plenty super bowl talk; baseball talk; NHL and NBA talk; Bodeans Mailbag action and some betting, what more could you want. Possibly much, much more...

We done made another live show! For those who were there, you know what triumphs there were and what disasters, what joys and what sorrows, what technical glitches and what further technical glitches... Aaaanyway, here's a very lightly tweaked recording of the show for you with Nat, Mike, Dan and Marek doing their best to defeat the audience in a series of challenges, along with a bonus track at the end featuring the enormously funny James Loveridge and our very own Dan Louw. First off, we want to apologize. Last week, when we wrote the title for Episode 216, it never occured to us that anyone might interprent the phrase "end of an era" to mean "end of a GameHounds era." We were talking about Rock Band. Not us. Don't worry, you're stuck with us for a long, long time. In fact, Edie Sellers just recently inked a deal that her frozen head will host the podcast until 2135. And that contract? It's pretty airtight. Get it? Aaaanyway, Edie, Nick Dinicola, and Holy Goalie gave you a whole host of stories to gab about, including: Short reviews of ; SimCity along with cheetah speed on all platforms. Deep Silver says Activision, or Ubisoft. Twisted Pixel's lead designer and comes up with not-very-alarming results. Microsoft calls for a , sparking rumors that it's the official announcement of the Durango.
