Orlando City just flat out sucked on Saturday night. There's no need to sugarcoat it. You saw it. The possession, the shots, the control — none of it means anything without end product and that's especially true when you switch off defensively three times and the opponent makes you pay for it. That's what happened when the Revolution came to town. We've got to talk about it, I suppose, and we'll make a Man of the Match pick as well, but hey, we're doing it under protest. The good news is that Orlando City will not be playing a team on a six-game winless streak for the first time in a few matches when they visit the New York Red Bulls this weekend. The bad news is that the Red Bulls are probably going to be a bit upset about the way the Lions treated them at Exploria Stadium in the U.S. Open Cup semifinals. But that's a problem for another day. The Orlando Pride continue to not lose but they also continue to not win, getting yet another draw during this now-five-game unbeaten streak, which has reached 1-0-4 under Seb Hines. It's great to see the Pride getting results against all odds, but a win or two would sure make it feel a lot better. One thing is certain: If an Orlando City player missed the sitter that Darian Jenkins muffed on Sunday, people would have been a lot meaner about it on social media (and they have been about the Lions, while not so about Jenkins or others on the Pride). OCB was off last week and played like it this week. Actually, that's not fair. The Young Lions played a great first half but simply couldn't produce goals and Toronto FC II punished them for it in the second half, with an identical 3-0 scoreline as the first team had against the Revs. This week's mailbag asked us about Stephen King film adaptations and mockumentaries. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we gave our key match-ups and predictions for Orlando City's upcoming match this Saturday against the New York Red Bulls. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 306 went down: 0:15 - There was a soccer match. The team we wanted to win did not, in fact, win. 29:28 - The Pride keep eking out results but they're not making up much ground on the playoff line. Still, they're kind of fun to watch. 44:08 - We answer our mail and make our predictions for the Lions against da Bulls. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Sandra Herrera and Lisa Roman run through the latest news in women's soccer around the globe. After the conclusion of the Women's 2022 Euros, the Women's World Cup of 2023 is the next major tournament on the horizon. Sandra and Lisa discuss the teams that have already qualified for the World Cup - including the US and Canada - and which teams still have to fight for a spot - England and Germany. This week US Soccer announced that the United States Women's National Team would be traveling to Europe for a pair of friendlies in October in preparation for the World Cup. The USWNT will play in London at Wembley Stadium against European Champions England on October 7. International soccer doesn't stop there, the FIFA U-20 World Cup kicks off next week with the US fighting for a World Cup. The US Roster features some familiar names in the NWSL like Portland Thorns' Olivia Moultire and youngest NWSL star at San Diego Wave FC Jaedyn Shaw.  Across the NWSL, the latest news involves league sponsors Voyager recently filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. With the digital cryptocurrency's original deal with the NWSL giving players a sum to digitally trade, where do the players stand now? USWNT and Angel City star Christen Press will be inducted into Stanford's Hall of Fame along with the university's first all-female athletic HOF class. Plus, it wouldn't be a News and Notes without a big trade - Racing Louisville has traded $30,000 in allocation money to OL Reign in exchange for the playing rights for Chinese international Wang Shuang. Come one, come all, to Episode 203 of "The Most LAFC Podcast on Earth," Defenders of the Banc! On most nights, our first match in Nashville, and certainly our first meeting against Walker Zimmerman since we traded him to Nashville in 2020, would take center stage. But this was not most nights, LAFC faithful. Ever since the signings of Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini, LAFC supporters wondered when and where they would their debut, and all signs pointed to Nashville. Sure enough, announced in the 18 was the Welsh superstar, Bale, and starting next to Jesus David Murillo on the back line was Chiellini. Tonight would be another in what has been a long line of “pinch me moments” this season for the Black and Gold. LAFC struck first, off the foot of, who else, Chicho Arango. The play began with a long pass from Chiellini to Vela, who back-heeled it to Hollingshead. Ryan's pass crosses the goal box to Chicho, who slots it home from a tough angle to give LAFC the 1-0 lead. All was fine until a silly foul by Ilie in the box on C.J. Sapong. After VAR confirmed the foul, the dangerous Hany Mukhtar stepped up to the spot and buried it, knotting the match at 1 heading into halftime. The second stanza has belonged to LAFC all season, and this match would be no different. Just a minute into the half, Carlos Vela drops an absolute DIME to Hollingshead, whose extraordinary effort literally puts the ball on frame. It caroms off the post to Cifu, and Jose hammers it home for his 6th of the year to give LAFC the lead for good, 2-1. Among the other highlights of the second half: Chiellini comes off at the hour mark for Eddie Segura, Ismael Tajouri-Shradi makes his return to the pitch for Mahala in the 84th, and OMG Gareth Bale makes his LAFC debut! In the 72nd minute, Chicho gives way to Bale, and all of GEODIS Park, not just the LAFC supporters, rose in applause and admiration. Gareth Bale is officially Black and Gold! The boys are definitely up to their usual knuckleheadedness on 203: We do a deep dive on the Butt family and H-E-B (not in Family Guy), explore Adrian Fein's time at Hamburger (also not in Family Guy), chat about Peterhead in Scotland (still not in Family Guy), and recount the inspiration for “Filly and the Scarf” (which IS in Family Guy!). Wow. We highlight the All Stars and TOTW-ers, the Las Vegas Lights, Angel City, and even Red Card Roger! We loved making 203, and we hope you'll join us soon for Episode 204!

The Angels (aka "Angel City", as they were known in the US) are one of those fantastic bands that made it big in their home country-- in this case, Australia-- but never caught on in the US. A shame, because these guys had it all: big riffs, great hooks, and clever lyrics. Let's check out this great track from the band I like to think of as "the thinking man's AC/DC". "Look The Other Way" (Rick Brewster, Doc Neeson, John Brewster, Brent Eccles) Copyright 1984 ATR/EP/Cat Songs — This show is one of many great music-related podcasts on the Pantheon network. Orlando City had a mixed week of soccer since our last show. The Lions got a last-minute goal to send Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup match against Nashville into extra time and then won another dramatic penalty shootout. Then on Monday, Orlando played down to (or below) the level of a struggling D.C. United side and dug too deep a hole to climb out of in a 5-3 home loss. We break down both matches, check the results against our predictions, and make our Man of the Match selections. We also analyze the departure of Silvester van der Water and what the potential loss of Joao Moutinho would mean. The Orlando Pride played better at a racetrack than at their home soccer stadium. The Pride had a great opening 20 minutes but still conceded twice in what looked like yet another shutout loss. But then Orlando found the right groove and stormed (Strom'd?) back for a 2-2 draw with Racing Louisville. In other Pride news, we discuss the departure of Sydney Leroux to Angel City and the signing of Malta international Haley Brugeja. OCB traveled to Rochester and the Young Lions got another Jack Lynn goal but not the win in a 3-2 road loss. Plus, we spent a few minutes on the USWNT and the U-20 USMNT (featuring Orlando City's Michael Halliday). This week's mailbag asked us about the Tampa Bay Rowdies, our favorite Orlando City penalty kicks, and what's wrong with the Lions at the moment. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we gave our key match-ups and predictions for Orlando City's home match coming up Saturday against Inter Miami. Stay safe and enjoy the show! 0:15 - A draw that felt like a win and a loss that felt like a bigger loss. Plus, goodbye to Silvester van der Water. 50:54 - The Pride rally back at the track and some player comings and goings. OCB lost away. Since the Beatles showed up with a built-in songwriting team, bands have always had those members who practised the mysterious art of creating and arranging compositions rather than relying on outside professionals to do that for them. Of course, even those great songsmiths liked to take a break and release an album of music that inspired them to pick up the quill and ink in the first place – Bowie's “Pinups”, Patti Smith's “12”, John Lennon's “Rock n Roll” (maybe more for contractual obligations, but still...) Now we can add Australian songwriter John Kennedy's “Raining Treasure” to that mix. Welcome to episode 158 of Love That Album. John's been making great records since the 1980s with his bands like John Kennedy's Love Gone Wrong and JFK and the Cuban Crisis. His music has always had an Americana flavour to it, and he writes wonderful tales of life in Sydney. His 2017 album JFK and the Midlife Crisis was a concept album about a middle aged musician recalling his times younger days in Sydney working in the indie music scene and where he now sees himself.  In 2019, this led to the idea of recording an album of covers from fellow travellers in Australian independent music of the 70s and 80s, “Raining Treasure – Australian Indie Gold Covers Vol.1”.In 2022, John and his band The '68 Comeback Special have released a second volume, “Raining Treasure – More Australian Indie Gold Covers Vol.2” with their interpretations of songs from The Scientists, Weddings Parties Anything, Radio Birdman, and (in an extension of the definition of “independent”) The Angels (aka Angel City in the US). These are not carbon copies of their originals – the gents put deep thought into the arrangements of these songs, and the results in some cases show a greater musical alignment with the lyrics.  I met up with John Kennedy and Peter Timmerman from the band to discuss these great albums. Tales are also told of the oppressiveness of Queensland under the Bjelke-Petersen government, John's “Sex Pistols” moment meeting the Go Betweens, and whether it's appropriate for an audience to chant during a cover of THAT Angels song. If you're a fan of Kennedy, you won't want to miss this. If you're unfamiliar with his work, you're in for a treat. You can stream the Raining Treasure albums from the usual places OR get a physical copies of the CDs from https://www.thegroovemerchants.com/Product/106392?fbclid=IwAR0x6jxrn6V3nds5OV4EcVGER_pkmkSQrG6KqBUplMqxLWP4JKDY2-wREP4 If you want to do a compare and contrast with the originals, I've created a YouTube playlist:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUPF49t_p_U&list=PLvosm3nd-62VG0NoFR3x8jhoMgPBkcm51 Download this episode of LTA from your podcast app of choice.
