Su condición de circuito urbano, nocturno y extremadamente caluroso lo convierte en una prueba de resistencia para pilotos y máquinas. Así que todos, tanto los profesionales como los aficionados, tenemos que prepararnos convenientemente para el fin de semana. Las claves de la carrera en Singapur. Las claves de la cita están en la adaptación al clima y la estrategia de neumáticos. La humedad superior al 70 % y temperaturas constantes que rondan los 30 °C hacen de Singapur un auténtico “infierno físico”. La degradación térmica es el mayor enemigo de los neumáticos, y Pirelli ha optado por los compuestos C3, C4 y C5. El medio y el duro serán los más usados en carrera, mientras que el blando puede ser decisivo en momentos puntuales, como la salida o tras la aparición de un coche de seguridad, frecuente en este circuito. El trazado de 4,940 km cuenta con 19 curvas y cuatro zonas de DRS. Aunque adelantar sigue siendo complicado, las modificaciones de 2023 introdujeron una recta de 400 metros que ofrece más oportunidades que en el pasado. Estadísticas, clasificación y estrategias. En Singapur la clasificación mantiene un papel determinante: en dos tercios de las ediciones el ganador partió desde la pole. El caso más excepcional fue en 2008, cuando Alonso venció partiendo desde la 15ª posición en una caótica carrera. Además, a diferencia de otras carreras nocturnas, en Singapur la temperatura se mantiene estable del día a la noche, aumentando el desgaste físico de los pilotos, por no hablar de las lluvias tropicales, que son un factor imprevisible, dado que pueden borrar el caucho depositado y alterar la evolución de la pista. Dónde estará la atención. Tras un fin de semana sin Fórmula 1 (cosas que ya se nos va a haciendo rara), la atención se centra en el pulso entre McLaren y Red Bull, con la incógnita de si Verstappen podrá conquistar por primera vez Marina Bay y en un fin de semana donde McLaren podría certificar el campeonato de constructores. Los de Woking están a solo 13 puntos de certificar el título de constructores. Bastaría con un podio o incluso posiciones intermedias combinadas para que el equipo se corone matemáticamente. Pero visto lo visto en Baku, y con la tensión del campeonato en juego, Marina Bay vuelve a prometer un espectáculo donde la estrategia, la resistencia y la precisión serán determinantes. Otra semana sin F1, pero la verdad es que hemos estado bien distraídos viendo a Verstappen arrasar en Nurburgring en los GTs – cosa que tratamos en este primer episodio de la semana del Podcast Técnica Fórmula 1 – amén del memorable y emocionante campeonato del mundo de Marc Márquez, la Nascar en Kansas (Hollywood casino 400) y el Mundial de Rally Raid que pasaba por Badajoz y Portugal, entre otras muchas competiciones. Marina Bay: un circuito infernal. El caso que la inanición de F1, lo que más nos apasiona a casi todos los que hacemos y escuchamos el podcast, se acaba esta semana con una carrera que vuelve a generar mucha expectación: Singapur. Una carrera nocturna pata negra, en un circuito infernal, rodeado de arquitecturas futuristas, que a mí casi siempre me ha agradado mucho. Y digo expectación porque quiero comprobar dónde está Red Bull y Verstappen, que puede ser un incordio genial en la lucha por el mundial entre los dos pilotos de McLaren. Singapur representa un reto extremo por múltiples factores. En lo físico, los pilotos afrontan condiciones extremas de humedad —superior al 70 %— y temperaturas constantes entre 24 y 31 °C, que pueden provocar una pérdida de hasta tres kilos de peso durante la carrera. A ello se suma la naturaleza sinuosa del trazado, con pocas oportunidades de descanso y una alta exigencia en el uso de frenos y neumáticos. Según Brembo, Marina Bay es uno de los circuitos más duros para los sistemas de frenado, con 11 zonas de frenada por vuelta y deceleraciones superiores a 4 g en varias curvas, destacando la curva 7, donde los pilotos deben aplicar hasta 151 kilos de fuerza sobre el pedal. Una carrera que ya es un clásico. La carrera se disputa de noche desde 2008, lo que aporta una atmósfera única y un desafío añadido: la iluminación artificial refleja en el asfalto y en las viseras, dificultando la precisión en las referencias de frenada. Además, al encontrarse tan cerca del ecuador, la temperatura no desciende significativamente al caer la noche, a diferencia de otros circuitos nocturnos como Abu Dabi o Yeda. A esto se suma la amenaza de tormentas eléctricas, que pueden alterar por completo las condiciones de pista. Una sola constante, los neumáticos En cuanto a neumáticos, Pirelli mantiene la misma selección de 2024: C3 (duro), C4 (medio) y C5 (blando). Los compuestos medio y duro serán protagonistas, aunque el blando podría ser decisivo en salidas o reinicios tras coche de seguridad. El estrés térmico es la principal causa de degradación, por lo que la gestión será clave. La edición anterior mostró una preferencia general por los medios, con estrategias de una sola parada como opción más rápida. El circuito mide 4,940 km y cuenta con 19 curvas tras la modificación de 2023, que eliminó una chicane para añadir una recta de 400 metros y facilitar adelantamientos, aunque siguen siendo poco frecuentes. La clasificación, tremendamente importante. La importancia de la clasificación es enorme: en dos tercios de las ediciones el ganador salió desde la pole, lo que refuerza el peso de la sesión del sábado. Históricamente, Vettel lidera con cinco victorias, seguido por Hamilton con cuatro. Ni Verstappen ni McLaren han conquistado aún este trazado, lo que añade interés al duelo por el título. Además, este fin de semana podría coronar a McLaren como campeón de constructores, ya que solo necesita 13 puntos más para asegurar matemáticamente el título. Con todos estos ingredientes —condiciones extremas, alta exigencia técnica y una lucha por el campeonato en juego—, el GP de este año puede ser una de las mejores carreras de la temporada. How well does the law serve women? That's a question Nuala puts to Brenda Marjorie Hale, The Rt. Hon. The Baroness Hale of Richmond, DBE a former judge who served as the first female President of the Supreme Court. She was the first woman and the youngest person to be appointed to the Law Commission, where she led the work on what became the 1989 Children Act. If your doctor or surgeon was convicted of rape you might expect them to be struck off. But that isn't always the case according to new research out today. The study by the Royal College of Surgeons looked at decisions by the medical practioners tribunal service, which rules on misconduct cases and decides on the sanctions. In a quarter of cases, they were more lenient than recommendations from the General Medical Council. They looked at 46 cases. In 11, the doctor was suspended instead of being struck off. En cualquier caso, esta semana vuelve la F1 a Azerbaiyán, uno de esos circuitos que no nos entusiasman a la primera, pero que suele dar buenas carreras y con muchas sorpresas. Las características únicas de Baku. El circuito urbano de Baku es una locura de trazado donde tenemos combinada la recta más larga del Mundial con una zona estilo Mónaco. Es una de las citas más impredecibles y emocionantes del año, una carrera que es un desafío tanto para pilotos como para ingenieros, donde el más mínimo error puede costar muy caro. El trazado tiene una longitud de 6,003 km y cuenta con 20 curvas, muchas de ellas de 90 grados. La recta principal, extremadamente ancha, permite adelantamientos en paralelo, mientras que la curva 8, en la zona antigua de la ciudad, es la más estrecha del Mundial, con solo siete metros de ancho. Esta variabilidad obliga a los equipos a buscar un compromiso aerodinámico entre velocidad punta y carga para las secciones lentas. Pirelli ha optado por su gama más blanda para esta edición: C6 (blando), C5 (medio) y C4 (duro), un paso más blando que en 2024. Esta elección abre la puerta a estrategias de dos paradas, aunque la gestión de neumáticos será clave. El asfalto urbano, con bajo agarre y desgaste, junto a los cambios bruscos de temperatura en los neumáticos —que pueden oscilar entre 90 °C y 40 °C en una vuelta— añade complejidad a la estrategia. La curva 1 es la más crítica: se pasa de 329 km/h a 119 km/h en apenas 108 metros, con una desaceleración de 5Gs. Un viejo conocido. Easy to follow financials, Mrkt Cap and Net assets of ~$40M.  Net income/EBITDA of -$12.6M in Q2.   Running Phase I / II trials and ramping up for Phase III, not cheap.  They need more than they had and capital is hard to get in this market. But here is the good part, the data is solid, the team is strong, and the SYNGAP1 Ecosystem is excited to have a first mover. SRF was thrilled to be invited, not just because we believe in C4, but because we wanted to send a meaningful signal to other investors that we are working closely with C4 and are eager to support their success.  I believe that our investment, while modest, sent that signal and helped this raise become oversubscribed. The board worked hard on this one. Now for hard questions: Are we conflicted? No.  We will transparently share info about all trials for products with good data.  ( See #S10e172 for ASGCT Data https://youtu.be/9xO1TcO1Eus )  Will other companies be upset?  Unlikely.  Stoke and Praxis are the only companies publicly working on SYNGAP1 that are close to this point and they are not worried about financial viability, but if they do want to do a raise for their SYNGAP1 program, they should certainly call us. What will other companies think? Indeed we are de-risking the disease by showing that our kids are modifiable with ASOs which are the majority of the therapies in scope.  This is a huge favor to others looking at this space.   Isn't this taking a risk with our funds?  Depends.  But if it is, it's a risk worth taking.  Remember we are the smallest investor, we only committed up to $1M, so other professional biotech investors put in $99M. What was the process?  C4 came to us, we decided it was worth talking to the board who had multiple discussions but we said yes in less than a week and that was last week. When is the trial? 2H26 Less than a year from now.  With this financing, I am sure of it. Tras la intensidad vivida en Países Bajos, el calendario de la Fórmula 1 continúa sin descanso y encara su primer doblete postvacacional con el Gran Premio de Italia en Monza. El Podcast Técnica Fórmula 1 nos prepara para ello, pero también nos habla de lo ocurrido en el WRC en Paraguay y del final de la Indy en Nashville Monza, el Templo de la Velocidad. No es extraño que al circuito de Monza se le llame “el Templo de la Velocidad”: se caracteriza por sus rectas largas, velocidades máximas superiores a los 330 km/h y la necesidad de una configuración de baja no, bajísima, carga aerodinámica. Pirelli llevará la misma gama de neumáticos que en 2023 (C3, C4 y C5), con previsión de estrategias a una parada, aunque las altas temperaturas podrían forzar a algunos equipos a optar por dos. Por otra parte, la pista, de 5,793 km y 11 curvas, obliga a una exigente gestión de frenos, sobre todo en la primera chicane, donde los cohetes, perdón, coches llegan a 337 km/h y deben reducir a unos 89 km/h en apenas metros, soportando desaceleraciones de hasta 5 Gs. Las estadísticas históricas refuerzan la relevancia de Monza: es el GP que más veces ha aparecido en el calendario, y Ferrari, con 20 victorias, lidera el palmarés. McLaren es su inmediato perseguidor, mientras que pilotos como Schumacher y Hamilton son los más exitosos con cinco triunfos cada uno. La afición italiana espera con ansias ver de nuevo a Ferrari en lo más alto, aunque tras lo vivido en Zandvoort las expectativas no están tan altas: los McLaren parten como favoritos. Paraguay: espectáculo, intensidad y decepciones. Por otro lado, el Rally de Paraguay ofreció un espectáculo intenso y lleno de imprevistos. Fue una montaña rusa, no sólo por los saltos, sino por la cantidad de incidentes por el que pasaron todos los contendientes menos Evans que, por cierto, que sale de nuevo como líder del Mundial. El Rally estaba dominado por Rovanperä, pero un pinchazo lo eliminó de un plumazo. Y en el caso de Ogier, que menuda cara tenía en el podio, en el último tramo cuando le pilló una lluvia intensa, lo que le impidió capitalizar su experiencia. El caso es que está por detrás del finlandés, con Evans líder por poco. El Mundial está que arde, con varios pilotos en condiciones de pelear por el título en las siguientes pruebas. Nashville: no hay mejor fin de fiesta para la IndyCar. La Indy nos dejó una carrera en Nashville tremenda, emocionante, divertida, llena de adelantamientos y estrategia, que se llevó un coche de Penske, el de Newgarden, que se merecía de largo una victoria esta temporada. Segundo, como no, Palou, quien es ya un experto también en los óvalos. A ver quién lo puede parar en los próximos años. En esta carrera volvió a brillar, confirmando su condición de estrella en la categoría y en los Estados Unidos, demostrando que es competitivo tanto en circuitos ruteros como en óvalos. Este año ha sido impresionante su regularidad, pero más aún su capacidad de adaptación, pues hasta 2025 no había logrado una victoria en un óvalo y se estrenó por todo lo alto: en las 500 Millas de Indianápolis… a partir de ahí no lo han podido parar. Lo mejor, sus declaraciones en la celebración del título: a pesar de que era ya Campeón hace varias carreras, le hubiera gustado ganar las últimas, para hacer vibrar a los aficionados del Ganassi y a todos los de la Indy.
