Fin de semana sin F1, pero realmente intenso con otras pruebas de motor, aunque algunas de ellas nos se traten en el Podcast Técnica Fórmula 1. En cualquier caso, esta semana vuelve la F1 a Azerbaiyán, uno de esos circuitos que no nos entusiasman a la primera, pero que suele dar buenas carreras y con muchas sorpresas. Las características únicas de Baku. El circuito urbano de Baku es una locura de trazado donde tenemos combinada la recta más larga del Mundial con una zona estilo Mónaco. Es una de las citas más impredecibles y emocionantes del año, una carrera que es un desafío tanto para pilotos como para ingenieros, donde el más mínimo error puede costar muy caro. El trazado tiene una longitud de 6,003 km y cuenta con 20 curvas, muchas de ellas de 90 grados. La recta principal, extremadamente ancha, permite adelantamientos en paralelo, mientras que la curva 8, en la zona antigua de la ciudad, es la más estrecha del Mundial, con solo siete metros de ancho. Esta variabilidad obliga a los equipos a buscar un compromiso aerodinámico entre velocidad punta y carga para las secciones lentas. Pirelli ha optado por su gama más blanda para esta edición: C6 (blando), C5 (medio) y C4 (duro), un paso más blando que en 2024. Esta elección abre la puerta a estrategias de dos paradas, aunque la gestión de neumáticos será clave. El asfalto urbano, con bajo agarre y desgaste, junto a los cambios bruscos de temperatura en los neumáticos —que pueden oscilar entre 90 °C y 40 °C en una vuelta— añade complejidad a la estrategia. Además, las sombras de los edificios y el viento influyen en la temperatura de la pista. Exigencias: mecánica y frenos. Según Brembo, Bakú es uno de los circuitos más exigentes para los frenos, con un índice de dificultad de 4 sobre 5. Los pilotos frenan 12 veces por vuelta, aplicando una fuerza total de 88,6 toneladas durante la carrera. La curva 1 es la más crítica: se pasa de 329 km/h a 119 km/h en apenas 108 metros, con una desaceleración de 5Gs. Un viejo conocido. Desde su debut en 2016, Bakú ha ofrecido ocho Grandes Premios con siete ganadores distintos. Sergio Pérez es el único piloto con dos victorias (2021 y 2023), mientras que Red Bull lidera con cuatro triunfos, seguido por Mercedes (3) y McLaren (1). En clasificación, Charles Leclerc ha dominado con cuatro poles consecutivas (2021-2024), incluso en años donde Ferrari no era el coche más competitivo. ¿Qué podemos esperar este año? La gran incógnita es si Max Verstappen repetirá la proeza de Monza o si McLaren, que lidera el Mundial de Constructores con 617 puntos y podría coronarse campeón este fin de semana, consolidará su ventaja. Easy to follow financials, Mrkt Cap and Net assets of ~$40M.  Net income/EBITDA of -$12.6M in Q2.   Running Phase I / II trials and ramping up for Phase III, not cheap.  They need more than they had and capital is hard to get in this market. But here is the good part, the data is solid, the team is strong, and the SYNGAP1 Ecosystem is excited to have a first mover. SRF was thrilled to be invited, not just because we believe in C4, but because we wanted to send a meaningful signal to other investors that we are working closely with C4 and are eager to support their success.  I believe that our investment, while modest, sent that signal and helped this raise become oversubscribed. The board worked hard on this one. Now for hard questions: Are we conflicted? No.  We will transparently share info about all trials for products with good data.  ( See #S10e172 for ASGCT Data https://youtu.be/9xO1TcO1Eus )  Will other companies be upset?  Unlikely.  Stoke and Praxis are the only companies publicly working on SYNGAP1 that are close to this point and they are not worried about financial viability, but if they do want to do a raise for their SYNGAP1 program, they should certainly call us. What will other companies think? Indeed we are de-risking the disease by showing that our kids are modifiable with ASOs which are the majority of the therapies in scope.  This is a huge favor to others looking at this space.   Isn't this taking a risk with our funds?  Depends.  But if it is, it's a risk worth taking.  Remember we are the smallest investor, we only committed up to $1M, so other professional biotech investors put in $99M. What was the process?  C4 came to us, we decided it was worth talking to the board who had multiple discussions but we said yes in less than a week and that was last week. When is the trial? 2H26 Less than a year from now.  With this financing, I am sure of it. Tras la intensidad vivida en Países Bajos, el calendario de la Fórmula 1 continúa sin descanso y encara su primer doblete postvacacional con el Gran Premio de Italia en Monza. El Podcast Técnica Fórmula 1 nos prepara para ello, pero también nos habla de lo ocurrido en el WRC en Paraguay y del final de la Indy en Nashville Monza, el Templo de la Velocidad. No es extraño que al circuito de Monza se le llame “el Templo de la Velocidad”: se caracteriza por sus rectas largas, velocidades máximas superiores a los 330 km/h y la necesidad de una configuración de baja no, bajísima, carga aerodinámica. Pirelli llevará la misma gama de neumáticos que en 2023 (C3, C4 y C5), con previsión de estrategias a una parada, aunque las altas temperaturas podrían forzar a algunos equipos a optar por dos. Por otra parte, la pista, de 5,793 km y 11 curvas, obliga a una exigente gestión de frenos, sobre todo en la primera chicane, donde los cohetes, perdón, coches llegan a 337 km/h y deben reducir a unos 89 km/h en apenas metros, soportando desaceleraciones de hasta 5 Gs. Las estadísticas históricas refuerzan la relevancia de Monza: es el GP que más veces ha aparecido en el calendario, y Ferrari, con 20 victorias, lidera el palmarés. McLaren es su inmediato perseguidor, mientras que pilotos como Schumacher y Hamilton son los más exitosos con cinco triunfos cada uno. La afición italiana espera con ansias ver de nuevo a Ferrari en lo más alto, aunque tras lo vivido en Zandvoort las expectativas no están tan altas: los McLaren parten como favoritos. Paraguay: espectáculo, intensidad y decepciones. Por otro lado, el Rally de Paraguay ofreció un espectáculo intenso y lleno de imprevistos. Fue una montaña rusa, no sólo por los saltos, sino por la cantidad de incidentes por el que pasaron todos los contendientes menos Evans que, por cierto, que sale de nuevo como líder del Mundial. El Rally estaba dominado por Rovanperä, pero un pinchazo lo eliminó de un plumazo. Y en el caso de Ogier, que menuda cara tenía en el podio, en el último tramo cuando le pilló una lluvia intensa, lo que le impidió capitalizar su experiencia. El caso es que está por detrás del finlandés, con Evans líder por poco. El Mundial está que arde, con varios pilotos en condiciones de pelear por el título en las siguientes pruebas. Nashville: no hay mejor fin de fiesta para la IndyCar. La Indy nos dejó una carrera en Nashville tremenda, emocionante, divertida, llena de adelantamientos y estrategia, que se llevó un coche de Penske, el de Newgarden, que se merecía de largo una victoria esta temporada. Segundo, como no, Palou, quien es ya un experto también en los óvalos. A ver quién lo puede parar en los próximos años. En esta carrera volvió a brillar, confirmando su condición de estrella en la categoría y en los Estados Unidos, demostrando que es competitivo tanto en circuitos ruteros como en óvalos. Este año ha sido impresionante su regularidad, pero más aún su capacidad de adaptación, pues hasta 2025 no había logrado una victoria en un óvalo y se estrenó por todo lo alto: en las 500 Millas de Indianápolis… a partir de ahí no lo han podido parar. Pero no será lo único que nos depare el fin de semana. Reto técnico y estratégico. Esta pista es la casa de Max Verstappen y se presenta como un reto técnico y estratégico para los equipos. El trazado, de 4,259 km, se caracteriza por sus 14 curvas. Sobre todo nos encanta por sus peraltes muy pronunciados en las curvas 3 y 14 que generan grandes exigencias sobre los neumáticos. El nivel de carga aerodinámica necesario es alto y la adherencia suele ser baja debido a la arena procedente de la costa del mar del Norte: estamos justo al lado de la playa. Además, la climatología cambiante es un factor a tener en cuenta en esta época del año. Cumpleaños y compuestos. Pirelli celebra aquí su 500º Gran Premio en Fórmula 1, habiendo elegido compuestos más blandos que en la edición anterior (C2, C3 y C4). Now that the C4 and DS4, built between 2010 and 2011, plus the DS5 built between 2010 and 2013 there is just a fraction under 10,000 additional vehicles. LONGBOW ADD MANAGEMENT HEAVYWEIGHTS TO BOARDLongbow, the electric sports car start up, has announced that Mike Flewitt, Michael van der Sande and Dan Balmer are now on the advisory board. Flewitt was CEO of McLaren, van der Sande was at Alpine and Balmer was the boss of Lotus Europe.
