Czasem największy cios nie przychodzi z zewnątrz. Czasem jest mały, cichy i… świeci ekranem. Dziecko zaczyna opowiadać o szkole — i nagle „pik!” powiadomienie. Mama odwraca wzrok. I w sercu dziecka rodzi się myśl, której nikt nie wypowiada, ale wszyscy ją czują: „Internet jest ważniejszy ode mnie.”W tym odcinku chcę Cię zaprosić do czegoś prostego i bardzo trudnego: do odzyskania obecności. Już od 1916 roku tworzyły się w terenie oddolne komitety obywatelskie, mogące przejąć władzę w przypadku porażki wojennej Niemiec. Tworzono też oddziały militarne, np. Straży Ludowej, rekrutowane tak, by składały się w większości z Polaków: obytych z bronią, gotowych, by we właściwej chwili stanąć po stronie Polski.Przypadkowy był tylko konkretny moment wybuchu. – Nie było rozkazu do walki, nie było osoby, która by wydała ten rozkaz – mówi historyk. Manifestacja patriotyczna z okazji przyjazdu Ignacego Paderewskiego do Poznania spowodowała zwołanie kontrmanifestacji niemieckiej, a tej z kolei zastąpiła drogę polska Straż Ludowa. W niezbyt dobrych warunkach (grudniowy, mżysty wieczór) padł pierwszy strzał, do dziś nie wiadomo, z której strony.Dość przypadkowo dowództwo objął kpt Stanisław Taczak, oficer ze Sztabu Generalnego w Warszawie, który odwiedzał właśnie w Poznaniu brata. Zgodę sztabu na dowodzenie powstaniem otrzymał… telefonicznie. – Powstanie wielkopolskie w dużej mierze było powstaniem na telefon, bo przedstawiciel danej miejscowości, który był akurat w Poznaniu, wyskakiwał na pocztę, dzwonił, informował swoich ludzi w terenie – opowiada dr Rezler. Kapitan Taczak świetnie sobie poradził w tej nietypowej sytuacji. 16 stycznia 1919 dowództwo objął przysłany ze sztabu w Warszawie gen. Józef Dowbor-Muśnicki. Walki w Wielkopolsce zakończył rozejm w Trewirze z 1919 roku – zawarty pomiędzy siłami Ententy a Niemcami.Powstanie wielkopolskie włączono do niego na wniosek Ferdinanda Focha, marszałka Francji. W odcinku rozmawiamy też o tym, dlaczego mieszkańcy Poznania nie przepadają za Józefem Piłsudskim, jak to było z tym Paderewskim i jego płomienną mową, która zachęciła Poznaniaków do walki (mit, mit, mit) i dlaczego oskarżanie mieszkańców zaboru pruskiego o tchórzostwo nie jest uzasadnione. Historic quarters in cities and towns across the middle of Europe were devastated during the Second World War—some, like those of Warsaw and Frankfurt, had to be rebuilt almost completely. They are now centers of peace and civility that attract millions of tourists, but the stories they tell about places, peoples, and nations are selective. They are never the whole story. These old towns and their turbulent histories have been key sites in Europe's ongoing theater of politics and war. Exploring seven old towns, from Frankfurt and Prague to Vilnius in Lithuania, the acclaimed writer Marek Kohn examines how they have been used since the Second World War to conceal political tensions and reinforce certain versions of history. Uncovering hidden stories behind these old and old-seeming façades in The Stories Old Towns Tell: A Journey through Cities at the Heart of Europe (Yale University Press, 2023), Dr. Kohn offers us a new understanding of the politics of European history-making—showing how our visits to old towns could promote belonging over exclusion, and empathy over indifference. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose new book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars.
