A potem musiałam wysłuchać tego wiersza i mogłam krytykować… różnie reagował, ale później widziałam, że moje uwagi jednak przyjmował”.Danuta Grechuta podkreśla, że artystę ukształtowały zarówno wyjątkowe czasy, jak i miejsce: „Ja zawsze twierdziłam, że Marka stworzył Kraków. Gdyby nie przyjechał z Zamościa, nie byłoby Marka Grechuty”. Przełomem okazał się koncert Ewy Demarczyk – to wtedy zrozumiał, że poezję można śpiewać, i że on sam chce to robić „po swojemu”, mimo że w Polsce królował wówczas bigbit.Grechuta od początku przyciągał publiczność. Artysta napisał ok. 300 piosenek, do poetów klasycznych i współczesnych, lecz także tekstów własnych – jak „Świecie nasz”: „On potrzebował trochę zbliżyć się do ludzi” – mówi jego żona.Danuta Grechuta wraca także do ich pierwszego spotkania na studenckim konkursie piosenki. „To były czasy kultury studenckiej. Twórczość była pod cenzurą, trzeba było mówić metaforą. Dlatego te piosenki są takie bogate”.Sporą część rozmowy poświęca problemowi dzisiejszego wykonywania piosenek męża: „Nie może byle kto tych piosenek wykonywać. Jeśli są źle wykonane, to im szkodzi. Przez wieki, nawet gdy zmuszano ją do odwrotu i wyznaczano granice ekspansji – jak po wojnie krymskiej – Rosja po odbudowaniu sił zawsze zaczynała od nowa. Henry Kissinger twierdził wręcz, że Rosja czuje się bezpieczna tylko wtedy, gdy poszerza swoje terytorium.Bilans Polski jest bolesny: Przegraliśmy. Stoczyliśmy z Rosją około 20 wojen, w większości przegranych. Zniknęliśmy z mapy na ponad wiek, a po krótkim, 20-letnim oddechu niepodległości, w 1939 roku zaatakowali nas zaaranżowanym szybko między nimi sojuszu: Niemcy i Rosja. Po II wojnie światowej Moskwa (jako ZSRR) znów opanowała Europę Środkową, kontrolując nawet część Niemiec – obszar, na który zapuszczała się już podczas wojny siedmioletniej. Po 30 latach „przerwy strategicznej”, która umożliwiała Polsce swobodny wybór rozwoju i sojuszy co przyniosło rozwój i bogactwo jakiego nigdy w dziejach nie osiągnęliśmy, znowu jesteśmy zagrożeni.Upadek ZSRR przyniósł wolność wielu narodom – od krajów bałtyckich, przez Ukrainę, aż po Azję Środkową. Rosja wycofała się z Europy, ale nie na długo. Imperialne dążenia powróciły wraz z wojnami w Czeczenii, Gruzji i aneksją Krymu. W 2021 roku Kreml postawił Zachodowi ultimatum, żądając powrotu do stref wpływów z czasów Związku Radzieckiego, a następnie uderzył na Kijów. To miała być krótka „operacja specjalna”, jednak ukraiński opór pokrzyżował te plany.Dziś, gdy zginęły setki tysięcy żołnierzy, a rosyjska gospodarka działa w trybie wojennym, jakakolwiek porażka byłaby dla elit Kremla śmiertelnym zagrożeniem. Czy w tej sytuacji możliwa jest zgoda na istnienie niezależnej Ukrainy? Na razie Rosja rzuciła na stół żądania i obserwuje, jak Zachód i Ukraina spierają się o nie.O co toczy się gra?
