Caren Zucker is a director, producer and journalist who has told stories for more than 25 years across a broad range of subjects both domestically and internationally as a producer for ABC's World News and Nightline. Zucker was the producer and co-writer of PBS NewsHour series Autism Now. Her oldest son Mickey's autism diagnosis inspired a new direction in her reporting: to bring a better understanding of autism's realities. John Donvan is a veteran network correspondent and producer for ABC, CNN and PBS, and host and moderator of the Intelligence Squared U.S. Debates, which are heard on public radio and by podcast. He has also been a contributing editor to The Atlantic. During his journalism career, in addition to anchoring various ABC broadcasts, John served as chief White House correspondent. Caren and John join Renee Dee on ICONIC Hour to discuss their upcoming film and their overall mission with spreading the word on autism.
Award-winning journalist, director, producer, author - all part of Caren Zucker's resume. As a producer for ABC's World News and Nightline, Caren has covered economic summits, presidential campaigns, the Olympics and so much more. She has now directed her first documentary, "In a Different Key,' a narrative history of autism. The project, which followed the PBS Newshour series, "Autism Now," was inspired by her son's diagnosis of the disease. News correspondent for ABC News’ “Nightline” John Donvan is most known for his war reporting. He has built a reputation throughout his television career reporting from places such as Jerusalem, Europe, the Middle East and Africa since 1982. He has contributed to news outlets including ABC Radio, ABC television, CNN and ABC News’ magazine programs, “World News Tonight” and “Good Morning America.” He has been awarded two Emmys, several Overseas Press Club Awards, two Cine Golden Eagles, been honored by the National Association of Black Journalists and the Committee of 100 and the Media Action Network for Asian-Americans. Emmy-nominated journalist and ABC television producer Caren Zucker is known for her coverage of 9/11, presidential campaigns, social trends and the Olympic games – but she changed the direction of her reporting when her oldest son was diagnosed with autism. She now works alongside Donvan to inform audiences and give them a better understanding of the realities of autism. As a team, Donvan and Zucker have been collaborating on autism stories since 2000. They created the ABC series “Echoes of Autism,” and Zucker produced the series “Autism Now” for PBS NewsHour.

They are in the Northwest to speak at Town Hall Seattle tomorrow night, presented by Town Hall, University Book Store, and UW Autism Center, as part of the Science series.

Autism and Augmentative and Alternative Communication: Research-based Best Practices by Joanne M Cafiero, Ph.D. Dr. Cafiero discusses the features & types of AAC that best correlate with ASD processing styles, lists evidence-based and promising practices in aided AAC & ASD, and demonstrates effective AAC interventions. Joanne Cafiero, formerly a high school science teacher is currently a special education AAC teacher. Joanne was Autism Projects Coordinator at Johns Hopkins Center for Technology in Education. She is a consulting editor and contributing author for peer-reviewed periodicals and major AT media and sits on the professional advisory board for the new national organization Autism Now and the adult autism advocacy group, AutCom. She is the author of the 1st book on autism and AAC, Meaningful Exchanges for People with Autism: An Introduction to AAC. Dr. Cafiero teaches and works with schools and families nationally and internationally.
