Don takes a closer look at the recent CBS town hall featuring Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, and what it signals about the direction the network may be heading under Bari Weiss's leadership. While the event was framed as a moment of reflection and healing, the faith-driven language, tone, and noticeable lack of journalistic pushback raised eyebrows for many viewers. Don breaks down what was said, what wasn't challenged, and why this style of coverage is leaving some audiences unsettled about the role of journalism, accountability, and rigor in high-profile media spaces. Last week, Bari sat down with Erika Kirk for an hour-long town hall in front of a live audience on CBS. It was an extremely powerful conversation. Erika and Bari spoke about a lot—rising political violence in this very divided country; the way some people justified or excused Charlie's murder; what Erika thinks about some of the controversial things Charlie said in his lifetime; her response to Candace Owens and the conspiracy theories Owens and others are peddling; the growing antisemitism on the right; and her decision to forgive Charlie's killer. They also talked about the posthumous release of Charlie's last book, Stop, in the Name of God: Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life. This town hall was the first of many conversations and debates Bari will be bringing to CBS News about the things that matter most. Which, of course, are often the hardest to talk about. We really hope you will tune in. In case you missed this first one with Erika Kirk, we're thrilled to share the conversation here on Honestly. And we can't wait for you to catch the next one on CBS News. The Free Press earns a commission from any purchases made through all book links in this article. Learn more about your ad choices. Guest host Kevin Flynn is flying solo for Scott Hennen on "What's On Your Mind," joined by North Dakota patriots Leon Francis and Jamie "Ruger" Brecht for a "Talk Radio Town Hall" on the Second Amendment and pressing issues. The show starts with a giveaway and a segment dedicated to Matthews Voice Project, a Fargo-Moorhead nonprofit helping students experiencing homelessness. The main focus shifts to the national stage with discussions on the threats posed by the open southern border, the perceived danger of unvetted migrants and potential terrorist cells, and the need for American unity. A significant portion of the conversation is dedicated to the Medicaid and food stamp fraud allegedly committed by elements within the Somali community, which the host and guests argue is a massive, multi-state, multi-billion dollar problem. The guests, advocates for the Second Amendment, discuss the "lunacy" of proposed gun control laws in Minnesota and mock the term "common-sense gun laws," arguing the focus should be on enforcing existing laws and addressing the underlying issue of criminal behavior. They criticize Minnesota's political environment, citing an instance where a congressman called the killing of a National Guardsman a mere "unfortunate accident". The segment concludes with calls from listeners concerned about the growing influence of Socialism and Islamism in America. Standout Moments: Helping Homeless Students: Interview with Callie Bakken from Matthews Voice Project, which supports over 1,000 homeless students in the Fargo-Moorhead metro area Medicaid/Somali Fraud: Playing audio of an Ohio attorney-whistleblower detailing massive Medicaid fraud schemes in the Somali community, calling Minnesota "the tip of the spear" Congressman's "Accident": Outrage over Congressman Benny Thompson calling the terrorist-related killing of a National Guardsman an "unfortunate accident" Critique of "Common Sense" Gun Laws: The host and guests argue that the term "common-sense gun laws" is meaningless and distracting from the enforcement of existing legislation Immigrant Infiltration: Discussing fears of Al-Qaeda cells and extremists entering the U.S., with one guest suggesting they could "assimilate as first responders" during a mass casualty event Tim Walz Mocked: A listener calls in to mock Minnesota Governor Tim Walz's apparent lack of gun knowledge when pushing for gun control

Missouri State Senator Steven Roberts and Senator Karla May are hosting a Town Hall this evening with the St Louis Police Commissioners. The transition of oversight of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police from local to state control is underway. In June, Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe named his appointments to that state board. They need to win approval of the State Senators in the district. He says he is concerned by the make-up of the board, noting only one person 'of color' and just one woman on the board. It kicks off at 6 p.m. in Harris-Stowe State University's Henry Givens Jr. Administration Building.

Earlier this month, at Seattle’s Town Hall, Rachel Belle was a guest on a sold-out, live taping of Seattle Eats with host Tan Vinh, the award-winning food and drink writer for The Seattle Times. Bestselling cookbook author and chef, J. Kenji Lopez-Alt was also a guest! The first segment of the show is dedicated to Thanksgiving: we learn about a local sushi chef’s recipe for teriyaki turkey, how green bean casserole factors into Tan’s immigrant story, and why Rachel has fond Thanksgiving memories of KFC and Celine Dion. Then Tan asks Rachel and Kenji about their Seattle favorites (best pizza, best bagels, best place to take a date) and Rachel gets to express her love for 1980s salad bars and The Baby-Sitters Club. Seattle Eats is a production of The Seattle Times and KUOW, part of the NPR network. Become a Cascade PBS member and support public media! Watch Rachel’s Cascade PBS TV show, The Nosh. This special Thanksgiving edition brings you part two of a dynamic Independent Veterans of America Winners Circle Town Hall featuring IVA 2026 Senate candidates Ty Pinkins of Mississippi and Dan Osborn of Nebraska—two independent veterans who are taking on entrenched incumbents, big money, and a broken two-party system. From New York City on Thanksgiving Day, Paul sets the table with gratitude for servicemembers, military families, cops, firefighters, and first responders who are working while the rest of America is watching parades and football. Then the conversation turns to the future: what it really looks like to run as an independent veteran in deeply red states, how to talk to voters across race and party lines in rural communities, and why so many Americans are fed up with being forced to choose between Trump on the right and Mamdani-style extremes on the left. Ty Pinkins shares what it means to campaign as an independent veteran in Mississippi—knocking doors in rural counties, bridging racial and political divides, and showing people that common sense, decency, and service still have a place in American politics. Dan Osborn, the former Navy veteran and mechanic who shook the establishment with a close U.S. Senate race in Nebraska, talks about why he is running again in 2026, how his grassroots movement has grown, and what it takes to challenge a billionaire-backed incumbent with nothing but grit, community, and a mission to put country first. Paul ties it all together with a Thanksgiving message about why veteran leadership matters as crises continue in places like Ukraine and Venezuela and as National Guard deployments ramp up at home, and why this independent veteran wave is just getting started. If you are an independent—or independent-curious—American who is tired of being politically homeless, or if you have ever thought about running for office yourself, this episode is a must-listen and a call to action. Because every episode of Independent Americans with Paul Rieckhoff breaks down the most important news stories--and offers light to contrast the heat of other politics and news shows. As we head into Thanksgiving we've got a special Veterans Day “Winners Circle” town hall that brings together Independent Veterans of America (IVA) candidates who are changing American politics from the ground up. Independent Americans host and IVA founder Paul Rieckhoff moderates a powerful, unfiltered conversation with two newly‑elected independent veterans—Mike Procuk (Frederick County, VA School Board) and Toby Proctor (North Granby, CT Board of Finance)—and IVA candidates Todd Achilles (Idaho), Donna Charles (Virginia) and Brian Bengs (South Dakota). They break down how independents are actually winning, why veterans are some of the last public figures people still trust, and how corrupt, money‑soaked party politics is failing regular Americans. From school boards and local finance boards to U.S. Senate races across red states, these veterans share ground‑truth stories from the trail, the brutal ballot‑access obstacles they face, and the insider strategies that prove independents are not spoilers—they're the future.
