What kind of king brings justice without force, power without coercion, and victory through suffering? In the first of Isaiah's Servant Songs, God introduces a ruler unlike any the world has known -- a servant who restores what is broken not by crushing the weak but by bearing their burdens. In this message, we see how Jesus fulfills Isaiah's vision as the Servant King who brings healing, hope, and justice to a wounded world and invites His followers to walk the same path.
This is the February 22nd sermon from the First United Methodist Church in Decatur, Texas. This sermon is taken from Isaiah 52:13-15.
Isaiah turns to tell us of the Lord's Chosen Servant, who has been sent to bring salvation and peace. In the first of four “Servant Songs” Isaiah introduces us to God's Servant, the Lord Jesus Christ. He gentle, patient, powerful, and brings God's people to praise the Lord. Listen to Isaiah when he brings God's message, “Behold My Servant!” (Isaiah 42:1-25)
When God says "Behold my servant," we should pay attention. Dr. John Neufeld unpacks Isaiah 42:1-13, the first of four "servant songs" revealing the Messiah's identity and mission. Unlike empty idols, God presents His servant—sinless, Spirit-empowered, and gentle with the broken—who will establish a new covenant with all nations, opening blind eyes and freeing prisoners from darkness. Only Jesus has fulfilled these ancient prophecies.God and the World's Idols: What are you really worshipping? In this series through Isaiah 40–44, Dr. John Neufeld explores one of Scripture's most powerful confrontations between the living God and the idols humanity creates. Writing to a nation facing exile and questioning whether their God has abandoned them, Isaiah paints a stunning portrait of who God truly is — His wisdom that needs no counsel, His power that never grows weary, His sovereignty over history itself.

Brother Laurel Smalling drew our eyes to the Lord Jesus as the Servant of God, prophesied years before His coming as the One who would serve in perfection. May we live as servants of God, imitating Him.

Pastor Chris Winans begins a new series on the book of Isaiah, entitled Behold My Servant. The series focuses on specific chapters in Isaiah that speak to the Messiah, Jesus Christ. This week we explore chapter 42 verses 1 to 4, that demonstrate a servant ruler, not a tyrannical ruler. Pastor Chris closes by leading us in prayer inviting Jesus to gently change the dark places in our hearts.www.cornerstonebrighton.com
Pastor Chris discusses the second Servant Song in Isaiah, from Chapter 49 verses 1 to 13. The ‘servant' in this passage is correlated with an idealized form of Israel, and is ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ- by the forgiveness of sins as the restoration of the covenant to not just Israel but to all nations and peoples. When we are restored to Christ not only are we eternally secured to be with Him in heaven, and ultimately the new heaven and new earth, but also we are partnered together with God in our everyday lives so that our lives have a far deeper and more fulfilling meaning than just making money and being successful.www.cornerstonebrighton.com
