In the latest episode of Intellectual But Ignant, Mako sits down for his first solo interview with artist and painter Jon Designz. They touched on a bit of everything—from Jon's favorite movie being Heat, to growing up in a religious household and how that shaped his relationship with his mother into adulthood. He shared how his grandmother played a pivotal role in his upbringing, instilling morals and principles that still guide him today. Jon opened up about getting married young, the lessons that came with that, and the difference between raising his son at a young age versus raising his daughter later in life. We also got into his roots—being born and raised in Decatur, Georgia—and his views on co-parenting, especially how as a man, you often have to take the high road. Jon talked about building his interior design empire, how it's opened doors for him globally, and the mindset that “there's enough work for everyone to eat.” He kept it real about the temptations that come with the job—especially with women—but emphasized the importance of discipline, because temptation doesn't pay the bills. We also dove into a powerful conversation about mental health, especially in the Black community, and how therapy is often overlooked or stigmatized among Black men. This episode is packed with real talk and life gems—so kick back, relax, and don't forget to like , comment and subscribe and follow us on all social media platforms Instgram, Twitter, Facebook and TikTok .
Atlanta-based immigration law firm Kuck & Baxter have stepped up to take on a "mass action" suit on behalf of more than 130 international students whose student visas have suddenly (and in many cases, inexplicably) revoked for flimsy causes (if any cause(s) even exist). On today to discuss his firm's work and what his clients are dealing with, Dustin Baster from Kuck & Baxter. ------I'll weigh in more tomorrow on Marjorie Taylor Greene's dumpster-fire of a "town hall" (air quotes) tomorrow, but suffice to say, a "town hall," by definition, it was not, and because attendees came for a legitimate "town hall" only to wind up at a political MAGA infomercial, someone naturally had to be tased, right? Not to be "out-fascisted," the City Schools of Decatur board took umbrage with an attendee calling them "cowards" so those thin-skinned public servants had her physically removed, too. These were people who largely agree with the attendee, in principle, but "how dare she speak ill of them, flexing her First Amendment rights in their presence," right? ------My second guest today was Patty Durand, once a Georgia public service commission (PSC) candidate, now head of Georgia Utility Watch, a consumer utility watchdog ready to be a thorn in the rubber stamp-wielding PSC and the profiting utility providers said commission has been doing the bidding of. With two PSC seats up for grabs in an election "off-year" and with consumers searing mad about untenable cost-of-living increases, might this be a rare occasion for such usually down-ballot races to get the attention needed? Patty and I seem to think so - and it goes beyond the wallet. Cost overruns at Plant Vogtle were costly - which Georgia Power made you pay for; they'll seek to have you absorb 'em for post-'Helene' efforts, too, and since the General Assembly didn't directly address it, you will likely be on the hook for for-profit data center energy needs as well.Enter the watchdog.

Episode Description: Since 1985, Emily Sailers and Amy Ray have been known as the Indigo Girls, and they've never once stopped making music or sharing their message of acceptance. The two met when they were kids in Decatur, Georgia,, and once they started playing together in high school, it didn't take long for their unique sound to find an audience—first regionally, then nationally, and eventually worldwide. Last summer, when their hit song “Closer to Fine” was featured prominently in the movie Barbie, they seemed to catch fire with a whole new generation, and now they're back with a slew of new projects. A documentary called It's Only Life After All delves into their lives, their struggles, and their activism; a rom-com called Glitter & Doom is set to their music; and of course there's some new songs. Sid also asks about Emily's longtime passion for food and cooking, the bar in Atlanta where they got their start, and what it's been like to endure as openly gay artists in the South and the music industry. The LORD will not let David languish in unrepentant sin. He sends Nathan the prophet to confront him through a parable by which David speaks the judgment against himself. When Nathan makes clear the sin that David has committed and speaks God's punishment for his sin, the Holy Spirit miraculously brings David to confession and repentance. Nathan speaks God's absolution to him, even as the child born to David and Bathsheba dies. This event provides a picture of the sacrifice made by the greater Son of David, Jesus Christ. Rev. Matt Ulmer, pastor at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church--Friedheim, just outside Decatur, IN, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study 2 Samuel 12:1-31. "A Kingdom Unlike All the Nations” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through 1-2 Samuel. This time in Israel's history has its highs and lows, but the LORD's faithfulness never wavers. He provides His Word to be proclaimed faithfully through prophets like Samuel and Nathan. Even as princes like Saul and David sit on an earthly throne, the LORD remains King over His people, even as He does now and forever through the Lord Jesus Christ. Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. On April 16th of 2021, Clay Clark, a far-right conspiracy theorist and self-proclaimed "alpha toxic male," from Tulsa, Oklahoma held his first "ReAwaken America" tour—an event that began in Oklahoma as a protest against COVID-19 restrictions and quickly grew into a nationwide platform for nationalism, so-called "patriotic streetfighters," and prophetic politics. In the buckle of the proverbial Bible belt, Clark created a cavalcade of Trumpian support, attracting actor Jim Caviezel, former U.S. national security advisor, Michael Flynn, Eric Trump, son of President Donald J. Trump, and many more Republican luminaries. When you think of international media hubs, you might think of Los Angeles, California, or New York City. When you think of places that are political powerhouses, Washington, DC, is an obvious choice. This week, Dr. Leah Payne speaks with award-winning journalist and professor Caleb Gayle and Dr. Daniel Isgrigg about a media center and political force that may not be top of mind: Tulsa, Oklahoma. Long known for its oil wealth, Black Wall Street, and the 1921 massacre, Tulsa is also an unappreciated epicenter of the global Charismatic and Pentecostal movement. It's a city where televangelists built empires, where charismatic theology shaped politics, and where spiritual power and political influence are deeply intertwined. But how did a landlocked city known for oil become a transnational hub for charismatic media making and far right political action? Find out on the Season 2 finale of Spirit & Power. Think back to when you were young. Can you remember a moment when an adult truly listened to you, took your opinion seriously, and made you feel like your voice mattered? Many of us don't have those memories—at least, not until much later in life. But for a child who hears, “You are an expert in your own life. Your voice matters,” the impact can be profound. That's exactly what UNICEF's Child-Friendly Cities Initiative is working toward. And just recently, Decatur, GA, became one of the first cities in the U.S. to receive this designation. But what does it actually mean for a city to be ‘child-friendly'? And how do we ensure that youth participation isn't just symbolic, but truly embedded in governance, policy, and community life?Today, we're joined by Danielle Goldberg, Managing Director of the Community Alliance for Child Rights, and Anne Day, who is the Senior Director of Research, Evaluation, and Research Partnerships at UNICEF USA.Skip Ahead:(01:31) Why children's voices are often missing in governance, and how this impacts policymaking and funding decisions.(7:56) How the “Child-Friendly Cities Initiative” helps local governments adopt child-centered governance strategies.(13:10) How are cities selected.(15:25) How did Decatur, GA achieve Child-Friendly City status, and what unique steps did they take to become more child-friendly?(18:19) What are the challenges in evaluating large-scale, systems-level initiatives like CFCI, and what indicators define success?Connect with Danielle and Anne and learn more about the Child Friendly Cities Initiative.Read the full show notes HERE.P.S. On October 12, 2024, tens of thousands of Christians gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., answering a call from charismatic activist Jenny Donnelly and pastor Lou Engle. The event, held on Yom Kippur, blended prayer political mobilization as speakers urged believers to take action ahead of the 2024 election. With banners reading #DontMessWithOurKids, the rally tapped into fears about gender and sexuality, echoing similar movements abroad. The results of the 2024 election suggest Donnelly's efforts were effective. With insight from journalists Alice Herman and Elle Hardy, Dr. Leah Payne asks: who is Jenny Donnelly? How did she rise to this unique position of influence in the Trump media-verse? And how is her fusion of faith, activism, and conspiracy shaping the Christian right? One Sunday morning in Georgia, a family walks into their Pentecostal church ready for worship. They're unaware that outside something life changing is about to unfold. During the service, ICE arrests a man just outside the church doors while his family sits inside. A moment of worship and community suddenly turns into a moment of fear and uncertainty. This is the reality for many facing immigration enforcement in unexpected places today. This week on Spirit and Power: Apocalypse Now - how Pentecostal and charismatic Christians are making sense of the Trump administration's long promised mass deportations. For some families torn asunder, it feels like the end of the world. For others, it's just the beginning. Dr. Leah Payne does a deep dive into stories of immigration and deportation with Dr. Jonathan Calvillo and Dr. Lois Olena. Why does Donald Trump look and sound like a Prosperity Gospel preacher? What are the actual ties of the president to this tradition of Christian healers and televangelists? In this episode of Spirit & Power, Dr. Leah Payne speaks with Dr. Gabriel Raeburn - Senior Research Fellow, Harvard Slavery Remembrance Program, Harvard and the Legacy of Slavery Initiative - about the health and wealth preachers who love Donald J. Trump, and their affinities with tech billionaires like Elon Musk & Peter Thiel. Fully embracing the glitz and glam of Trump's 21st Century second term, prosperity preachers are setting their own political agendas and living the high life with their favorite president, a long way from their impoverished, Depression-Era roots. The report documented 222 cases of religious freedom violations in the Central American country last year. Authorities have prohibited churches from holding public religious processions. Pastors must report to designated police officers and submit their weekly plans. Christian Solidarity Worldwide noted, “Preaching about unity or justice or praying for imprisoned religious leaders or even the general situation in the country, for example, can be considered as criticism of the government and treated as a crime.” Nicaragua is ranked 30th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian. South Korea's birthrate up South Korea's birthrate rose last year for the first time in nearly a decade. The country witnessed 238,300 births in 2024, up 3.6% from 2023. South Korea's fertility rate was 0.75 children per woman last year, up from 0.72 in 2023. It was 1.24 in 2015. South Korea is known for having one of the worst fertility rates in the world. The government has introduced pro-marriage policies in response. UK Christian groups organize Nat'l Day of Prayer Against Assisted Suicide Religious organizations in the United Kingdom are organizing a National Day of Prayer Against Assisted Suicide on March 25. The Christian Institute is leading the initiative in partnership with Affinity, CARE, the Christian Medical Fellowship, and the Evangelical Alliance. The U.K. parliament is currently considering a bill to legalize the killing of terminally ill adults who want to end their lives. Ciarán Kelly, the Director of The Christian Institute, said, “Now is a key moment to pray for the failure of efforts to legalize assisted suicide for ill and vulnerable people.” 40 Days for Life kicks off in 660 cities worldwide Pro-lifers around the world joined in the 40 Days for Life prayer campaign starting yesterday. People are praying for an end to the murder of unborn babies in 660 cities. The abortion mill in one of those cities is already expected to shut down. The Bloomington Police Department informed 40 Days for Life that the Planned Parenthood locations in Bloomington and Decatur, Illinois are closing for good. Colossians 4:2 says, “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.” Trump opposes transgenderism in speech On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump delivered an address to both chambers of Congress. His speech lasted over an hour and 40 minutes, a record for presidential addresses to Congress. Trump celebrated his first 43 days back in office. He criticized transgenderism and illegal immigration while promoting government cuts and tariffs. Trump called on Congress to ban so-called sex-change surgeries on children. TRUMP: “Shortly after taking office, I signed an executive order banning public schools from indoctrinating our children with transgender ideology. (applause) I also signed an order to cut off all taxpayer funding to any institution that engages in the sexual mutilation of our youth. (applause) “And now I want Congress to pass a bill permanently banning and criminalizing sex changes on children and forever ending the lie that any child is trapped in the wrong body. (applause) This is a big lie. And our message to every child in America is that you are perfect, exactly the way God made you.” (applause) According to a CBS News survey, a massive 76% of those watching said they approved of Trump's first second-term speech to Congress, reports One America News. Supreme Court votes against Trump's freeze of $2B to USAID The U.S. Supreme Court sided with a lower court against the Trump administration yesterday in a case involving USAID payments. The lower court ordered the administration to unfreeze $2 billion in foreign payments. The Supreme Court ruled 5-4. Justice Samuel Alito led the dissent, writing, “Does a single district-court judge who likely lacks jurisdiction have the unchecked power to compel the Government of the United States to pay out (and probably lose forever) 2 billion taxpayer dollars? The answer to that question should be an emphatic ‘No,' but a majority of this Court apparently thinks otherwise. I am stunned.” Australian man with the golden arm dies at 88 And finally, a beloved Australian blood donor died recently at the age of 88. James Harrison was known as the “Man with the Golden Arm.” His blood contained the rare antibody called anti-D. The antibody is used in a medication for pregnant women whose blood might attack the unborn baby. Harrison donated blood and plasma 1,173 times between 1954 and 2018. He's credited with saving the lives of 2.4 million babies! Stephen Cornelissen with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service said, “James was a remarkable, stoically kind and generous person who was committed to a lifetime of giving and he captured the hearts of many people around the world.” In Acts 20:35, the Apostle Paul said, “And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.' ” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, March 6th, in the year of our Lord 2025.
