Business intelligence (BI), like data analytics, does not seem to be as prominent these days as data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI). However, data analytics and BI are separate disciplines from data science and AI, with the former still being especially relevant when trying to improve organisational performance and success. With Raquel Seville of BI Brainz, we get a primer on BI, and among other things, she highlights:   *  misconceptions people have about BI;   *  important skills individuals who want to work in BI should possess; and   *  basic activities and tools MSMEs can use to begin to tap into the benefits of BI.   The episode, show notes and links to some of the things mentioned during the episode can be found on the ICT Pulse Podcast Page (www.ict-pulse.com/category/podcast/)    Enjoyed the episode?  Do rate the show and leave us a review!     Also, connect with us on: Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/ICTPulse/  Instagram –  https://www.instagram.com/ictpulse/  Twitter –  https://twitter.com/ICTPulse  LinkedIn –  https://www.linkedin.com/company/3745954/admin/  Join our mailing list: http://eepurl.com/qnUtj    Music credit: The Last Word (Oui Ma Chérie), by Andy Narrell ---------------- Also, Sponsorship Opportunities! Welcome to another exciting masterclass, taking you behind the scenes of how two female leaders on our BI Brainz team created not one, but two of our most downloaded database templates ever! Sharing these juicy details, will be Raquel Seville, CEO of the BI Brainz Caribbean office, and Anna Ria, our very own Head of Design and well-known BI Data Accelerator trainer. In this episode, you’ll hear from Raquel as she explains how she used our BI Data storytelling framework to transform a 271-page annual report into a simple, insightful BI Dashboard that got a thumbs up from the company’s CEO on social media. Today, it has been downloaded hundreds of times and, during the course of this episode, you’ll find out how to get your own free copy. We’ll also talk about how Raquel overcame receiving little to no input from the company on the look, metrics, or goals. Then, we jump into part two with Anna, where she shares the unique inspiration behind our now-famous Analytics Design Guide and why she believes it became one of the most downloaded templates in BI Brainz history, being downloaded over 600 times in the first 48 hours! She also provides some knowledge-bomb-galore advice for any seasoned or new database designer that wants to take their data biz to the next level in any Power BI tool. Last but not least, I will tell you how to get your own copy of both these dynamic Power BI templates and the free 55-page Analytics Design Guide, which we continue to update annually, as well as so much more. This episode was recorded during Women’s History Month, so be sure to share it with your female team members, family members, and any women in tech, as it is not only informational but also an inspiring story about dynamic women doing amazing things. Tune in today!   In this episode, you'll learn: [0:05:33] What Raquel has learned as a woman in a male-dominated industry. Kimberly Herrington’s passionate about data storytelling. And she’s not alone. Across the globe, people are eating up books and courses about this relatively new story niche. Why? Because they realize that our ability to generate data far outperforms our ability to communicate and act on them. Data storytelling goes beyond simply telling the story of how you got your data, or explaining what a specific plot point means. As we discover in this episode, it helps us figure out what questions we need to ask to guide data collection, and who needs to understand those data to make sure they get used. That’s exactly what Kim is doing, through her work as a data journalist and creator of #BuffaloBusinessIntelligence. Just in the last year, she’s been able to use data to advance health innovation and fuel change in her home state of New York, by helping to accelerate access to the Internet for thousands of citizens during the pandemic with WIFI Warriors. She also promotes data education and literacy, building on her own studies with BI Brainz. Data storytelling’s just getting started. If you want great tips about how to bring it into your work, then this episode is for you.
