The Geektown Radio podcast returns for our penultimate show before the Christmas break, and I'm joined by the dread pirate Bex Trista from TristaBytes, who is currently recovering from being a klutz and smashing up her knee... Something which I was, of course, completely sympathetic about... Along with all the usual tv news and air date info, we also have an interview with Olivia Williams, Harry Lloyd & Nicholas Pinnock, three of the stars of StarzPlay's brilliant sci-fi thriller 'Counterpart'.If you haven’t caught the spy thriller yet, it stars J.K. Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson in ‘Spider-man’, and Commissioner Gordon for the DCU), as Howard Silk, a low-level bureaucrat at a seemingly innocuous UN agency, the Office of Interchange or OI. He’s trudging through his latter years of a life filled with regret, that is until he discovers the agency is hiding a secret… It’s protecting a gateway to a parallel universe.Olivia Williams ('Dollhouse', 'The Sixth Sense') plays Emily Silk/Burton, wife (and, confusingly, ex-wife) of Howard Silk, who is way more involved in the spy games than she initially seems. Harry Lloyd (Viserys Targaryen in 'Game Of Thrones') stars as Peter Quayle, the Alpha (aka “our side”) OI Director of Strategy. Nicholas Pinnock ('Fortitude', 'Marcella') portrays Ian Shaw, an aggressive OI Housekeeping operative on the Prime side (aka “the other side”), and former boyfriend of the Prime Emily. WARNING THERE ARE SPOILERS FOR SEASON 1 IN THE INTERVIEW!‘Counterpart‘ Season 1 and the first eps of Season 2 are on Amazon Prime Channel STARZPlay right now, with new episodes landing every Sunday. For those of you confused as to what is StarzPlay, it is an addition “add-on” channel you can get via Amazon Prime Video. This additional service to the main Amazon Prime Video offering costs £4.99 a month with a 7-day free trial. They also are home to the Stephen King multiverse drama ‘Castle Rock‘, the Brendan Gleeson/Harry Treadaway series ‘Mr. Mercedes‘, and upcoming apocalyptic stoner comedy ‘Now Apocalypse’ plus lots more. Also On This Week's Show:I'm joined by Bex Trista from TristaBytes in the co-host seat this week, so we chat about the tv shows, games and films we've been playing and watching. We take a look at all the latest tv & film news, including renewals & cancellations. We give you our recommendations for upcoming TV in the next 7 days. Valerie, Tatiana and Angela gush over the latest Captain Marvel trailer and wonder about Maria Rambeau's role in the film (1:30) before discussing the rest of the announced and/or upcoming Marvel and DC movies (13:00). On the other end of the spectrum, we mourn the Daredevil cancellation and the death of Netflix Marvel (16:50). Then we take a depressing look at two more men accused of being trash, Salim Akil and Neil DeGrasse Tyson (23:50). But things get joyful again with our mini-review of The Flash's 100th episode (40:30), a preview of Counterpart Season 2 (58:00), and the premiere weeks of Memories of the Alhambra and Encounter over in our Kdrama Corner (1:04:00).
"Counterpart" - it's "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" meets "The Twilight Zone", John Le Carre meets Phillip K. Dick, or at least that's how it seemed in the season's first half. Tune in as we ponder whether the show held up in the second half of its debut season. What does the show have to say about marriage or other relationships? What was it with Baldwin, the tortured season? And just what the hell was with Management anyway?
"Counterpart" – it's "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" meets "The Twilight Zone". Listen as the gang pay homage to the awesomeness of JK Simmons and break down the first half of one of the most thought-provoking and yet underrated seasons of television in 2018, a show that touches on nature vs nurture, identity, the universality of the human experience across divides, the life-altering impact of grief and parallel universes.

It's been a few days since Jack has had anything to drink and he broke that streak in this episode. You've been warned.
