What did we all do to deserve this? Patrick Horvath and Tyler Crook are collaborating on Archie in Hell, part of the new Oni Press/Archie Comics partnership. They're two of the best cartoonists working in the industry today. What's in a title? This week, Kyle Starks takes us to school, detailing the best way to hook a reader and use your following to do it. Louise Sprouse Stole My Heart (And I Have Two Hours to Get It Back) is live on Kickstarter. As of this writing, you have eight days to back this book and grab yourself a cute little desk calendar in the process. The comic is the third from Kyle Starks, following Karate Prom and Wrestle Heist, which his followers named. They supplied the inspiration, and the challenge was living up to it. Having read all three, we believe Starks has never failed, and we're excited to learn he's doing it again right now on his Patreon. Louise Sprouse Stole My Heart (And I Have Two Hours to Get It Back) is another hitman tale from Starks, but it's his most romantic, and certainly his most gory. This darling is black, white, and bloody, but accomplished in the most endearing, relatable fashion. Whenever Starks is behind the pen, the resulting story delivers on the “awwwwws” as well as the giggles. We swoon for Starks. This week, we are giving a second listen to our very special episode with Lili Reinhart. Reinhart is an actor, producer, and founder of the skincare brand Personal Day. She knew she wanted to be an actor from a young age and spent her tween and teenage years auditioning, self-taping, and begging her parents to let her finish schooling online so she could concentrate on her craft. At 19, she was cast as Betty Cooper on the hit CW show Riverdale and spent the next seven years in a nonstop filming and production cycle. During this busy period of life, she still found time to pursue outside projects, publishing a book of poetry in 2020 and founding a production company. When Riverdale ended in 2023, it allowed her a moment to pause and consider what she wanted to work on going forward. Since then, she's been developing projects with her production company that ignore the mainstream in favor of tackling topics like mental health. She's taken on a few acting projects, like the TV series Hal & Harper, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last month. She also spent two years developing her skincare line, Personal Day,and has been receiving great reviews for its nonirritating formulas and effective solutions for acne-prone skin. Since this episode's original release, Reinhart's career has continued to thrive, and her latest project, The Love Hypothesis, premieres on September 23.

Light the Bat-Signal, friends. Scott Snyder is back on the podcast, reflecting on Batman: The Court of Owls and how it served as a massive lesson in character. Both on and off the page. Fifteen years ago, a roar rushed through every local comic book shop. Cries of blasphemy rattled over the racks and rippled atop the longboxes. DC Comics rebooted every single one of their titles with a new number one, calling it The New 52, and readers were as anxious about it as they were willing to buy every single title. It was a linewide reset, and it felt as radical as comics could get for new readers, and even gave the old heads some pause. Batman (Vol. 2) #1 arrived on September 21st, 2011. It was written by Scott Snyder, penciled by Greg Capullo, inked by Jonathan Glapion, colored by FCO Plascencia, and lettered by Richard Starkings and Jimmy Betancourt. Today it's considered a modern classic, having just gotten the Compact Comics $9.99 seal of approval. Fifteen years ago, however, it was anything but a sure thing, especially from Scott Snyder's perspective. On this hallowed Batman Day, we're deeply pleased to chat with Scott Snyder about this extreme moment in time. Archie is entering a new era for the character and all of Riverdale's favorites with Oni Press and Archie's new #1s. Ben H. Winters, the acclaimed novelist, takes up the main title, Archie! We spoke with him about bringing his mostly serious literary background (dark mysteries, drama television) to pure comedy for the first time, tracing his sense of pacing back to his college comedy troupe and punk band roots. He describes his Riverdale as infinitely elastic, a setting that can stretch from the diner to a mountaintop while staying instantly recognizable, and explains that his debut arc centers on a film festival specifically so he can reintroduce the whole core cast at once, each filtered through a different genre pastiche. Beneath the gags, Winters talks about weaving in a quieter thread about the anxiety of late adolescence, using a recurring Jughead's Journal backup feature to hint at an unfolding, faintly sci-fi mystery about why Riverdale never seems to change, while also pushing to diversify the town's cast to reflect a more realistic version of the world.

We wrap up the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina! Unfortunately it ends on something of a flat note. We discuss the show being canceled, the episode having to serve as a finale, the all over the place plotting, Wardwell's mismatched narration, the difference between the void and space (?), and Sabrina and Nick's conclusion. Terminal throws readers right into a chaotic, violent world. When you were building the first issue, how did you approach onboarding readers without giving too much away? The book opens with some striking and surreal imagery, especially the eye and the idea of Maculox. What was the origin of that concept, and how central is it to the larger mythology? There's a clear tension between evolution and destruction running through the story. How did you want to frame that conflict without falling into a simple good versus evil dynamic? The first issue makes some bold narrative choices in terms of expectations around who the story might follow. Without getting into spoilers, should readers expect that kind of unpredictability to be a core part of the series? Robert and Joe, how does your collaboration work on a project like this? Are you breaking story together, dividing scripts, or building off each other's strengths in a specific way? Andy, the character designs, especially on the more villainous side, feel really eclectic and distinct. What were your inspirations when developing the look of this world and its characters? There's a bit of a “hidden world” structure here, where a regular person is pulled into something much bigger. What drew you to that kind of setup, and how do you keep it feeling fresh? The series feels like it has big, long-term potential, but also a very focused central idea. Is the plan for Terminal to be a long-running series, or are you working toward a more defined endpoint? For all three of you, what was the moment in developing Terminal where you realized this was something special or different from other superhero books you've worked on or read?
