As a Coach with Boot Camp for New Dads for 12+ years, Schuyler Totman has listened to thousands of guys mansplain breastfeeding. But these aren’t just any guys: they’re experienced “Vet Dads” who bring their 4-month-olds back to Boot Camp, and share insights gained since their baby was born. He has learned to ask these “Vet Dads” about breastfeeding specifically, because almost all agree that supporting mom through breastfeeding brought greater challenges than supporting her through the birth. Boot Camp for New Dads® (aka Daddy Boot Camp®) is a unique father-to-father, community-based workshop that inspires and equips men of different economic levels, ages and cultures to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates and personally navigate their transformation into dads. Boot Camp is validated by research and has been named a best practice by many organizations that consider it an exceptional means of supporting dads-to-be and fostering behaviors that greatly benefit children and help prevent a wide range of social ills. Founded in 1990, the non-profit Boot Camp for New Dads has graduated more than 325,000 men, making it by far the nation’s largest program for new fathers, and is now offered in 44 states, on U.S. military bases, Canada and the U.K.

Welcome to our second Daddy Boot Camp. My goal for these episodes is to have some resources for men to feel connected. Two of these three dads talk about what it was like from their perspectives to struggle with fertility, watch their wives miscarry, take selfies through IUI, uterine surgeries and more. Over beers and the Inducer Pizza from Hawthorne's, they tell me all. They open up about their own feelings about their losses, supporting their partners through miscarriage, faith and friends. I ask them when they felt like they were a Dad and they gave me honest answers. They share about what it was like to learn what a doula was and to be convinced that having one (me MyDoulaHeidi) was necessary! Just make sure to listen to Part 1 and Part 2
Did you listen to Part 1? Back up to episode 39 first! In Part 2 of Daddy Boot Camp 2.0 Cas, Justin, and Chris dive into teaching dad's about what natural labor transition looks like, 5 day long inductions, cesarean section, how to support your partner through pivots in their birth plans, when to speak up, when to sit back. They share about tapping into instincts, having new impressions of their wive's strengths, cutting the umbilical cords and so much more! Trigger Warning regarding an entrapped placenta.

Well the weather outside is...weather.But inside, the boys are so delightful. And since they've no place to go, let them tell you about a 2005 Nic Cage film that they watched by the name of "The Weather Man." It's a tale as old as time about...a...weather man. But before we can talk about The Weather Man, let's talk about the weather, man. It's real cold in Minnesota, people. Brock begins his Apology Tour. Talk a little football. How's work at the restaurant going, Bri? Baby talk. Brian gives us a lesson on laying the pipe.
