This week we cover topics from watching Hospital Bills and how to save money to news of Wilderness survival and new policy, record-breaking hunts to mythbusting jellyfish. Real-life stories that could save your life or keep money in your wallet. Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka ‘BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! How to Save Money on Hospital and Insurance Bills — Even When You're Fully Covered When you're diagnosed with a serious illness like cancer, the last thing you want to worry about is money. But between insurance coverage, hospital billing departments, and ongoing treatments, out-of-pocket costs can spiral — even when you're fully insured. In 2021, I was diagnosed with cancer. I underwent 12 rounds of chemotherapy and 8 weeks of daily radiation. While my insurance was a blessing, I quickly discovered that being covered doesn't mean you're not vulnerable to costly billing mistakes — ones that could cost you thousands if you're not paying attention. Why You Must Compare Your EOB With Hospital Bills — Line by Line One of the most important lessons I learned: Always compare your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurance provider to the bill from your hospital or healthcare provider. Here's what happened to me: Even after I had hit my out-of-pocket deductible, I noticed monthly hospital charges averaging around $900 in my online billing portal. After comparing the EOB to the hospital bills, I saw that some treatments weren't even being submitted to my insurance company. Instead, I was being billed directly — as if I had no coverage at all. I called my insurance company, who confirmed they hadn't received claims for those charges. Then I contacted the hospital's billing department and was told each time that it was a “mistake,” and they would resubmit. Had I not caught this, I could have paid over $10,000 in wrongful charges — with little chance of a refund later. Pro Tip: Don't Automatically Pay Medical Bills Without Verifying It's tempting to just pay the bill and be done with it — especially when you're overwhelmed and just trying to get through treatments. But trust your gut. Instead: Wait to receive your EOB before paying anything. Compare dates, services, and costs between the EOB and your hospital bill. Call your insurance company if anything doesn't line up. Then, contact your healthcare provider's billing department and request that charges be re-submitted if needed. Always Ask: "Has This Been Submitted to My Insurance?" Make it your mantra when speaking to any healthcare billing department: “Has this claim been submitted to my insurance company?” If they say no or “it was a mistake,” ask for proof of submission and a timeline. It can take weeks or even months for a corrected bill to show up — so document every call and keep all emails or confirmations. Human Error and AI Mistakes Are More Common Than You Think In today's digital world, hospitals and insurers often rely on automated systems for billing. But that doesn't mean the process is error-free. In fact, it may be worse. You might encounter: Incorrect coding of procedures Claims not submitted at all Duplicate billing Coverage miscalculations That's why your personal oversight is essential — especially when you're dealing with ongoing care. How to Protect Yourself from Costly Healthcare Billing Mistakes Here's a quick checklist to help you save money and protect your finances during a medical journey: Know your deductible and out-of-pocket maximum Track every treatment and procedure in a personal log Check your EOBs monthly and match them with bills Dispute errors right away — don't wait Keep records of every call and conversation Ask for itemized bills from providers Request written confirmation of any billing correction Final Thoughts: Be Your Own Advocate — It Could Save You Thousands Between AI systems, human error, and overloaded billing departments, even those with full insurance coverage can fall into financial traps. The stress of calling weekly to fix these issues took a toll, but in the end, it saved me thousands of dollars. The bottom line? Be proactive. Be persistent. And never assume a bill is correct just because it looks official. If you're navigating medical bills or complex treatments, you're not alone. If I hadn't spoken up, I would have unknowingly overpaid by thousands. Don't be afraid to double-check, question, and challenge what doesn't look right. Your health matters — and so does your wallet. 14-Year-Old Girl Makes Pennsylvania Hunting History with Record Bull Elk We've got a record-breaking hunting story that's as heartwarming as it is impressive. According to Outdoor Life, fourteen-year-old Samantha Bartlett just became the youngest hunter ever to tag a bull elk in Pennsylvania — and she did it with a single, well-placed shot from her crossbow! It all happened in the early morning hours of September 16, deep in the mountains of north-central PA. Samantha and her dad, Noel, had already spent three long days hiking and hunting, holding out for the right bull. On the fourth day, it finally came together. After hearing two bulls fighting at dawn, Samantha and her guide crept through tall grass and waited. With a few cow calls, a massive bull came trotting in. At 40 yards, Samantha took the shot — and nailed it. The 6x7 bull elk went down within 100 yards, and the rest is history. The animal was estimated at 800 pounds, and the rack green-scored at 310 inches. Getting the bull out? That was a whole different story. The team dragged it downhill for four hours — no vehicles allowed — proving once again that the hunt doesn't end with the shot. Her bull was officially checked at a game station in Benezette, where state officials confirmed Samantha's place in the record books. This big moment was made possible by a lucky draw for a limited bull elk tag — and by a new law allowing Sunday hunting in Pennsylvania for the first time, giving young hunters like Samantha more opportunities. What's next for her? She's got her sights set on the “Pennsylvania Quad Trophy” — elk, black bear, turkey, and deer — all with a crossbow. Talk about ambitious! Moral of the story? Don't underestimate a determined young hunter and her crossbow. On Monday, Sept. 22, the man became separated from his group near the Three Sisters Trailhead in the Rawah Wilderness. The last anyone heard from him was a text saying he was lost, just before 3:30 p.m. His phone later went dark, and with winter weather rolling in, it was too dangerous for search teams to head out that night. By the next day, over 20 agencies — including Search and Rescue teams, deputies, and wildlife officials — launched a full-scale search in snowy, cold, and windy conditions. Air support was grounded, and rescuers battled through the backcountry on foot. Despite the brutal storm and tough terrain, the search effort continued into a second day. Then, on the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 24, hope came from above: the hunter was able to place several 911 calls, helping rescuers pinpoint his location. At around 1 p.m., air support spotted him — alive and in good health. So how did he make it? The hunter credited his survival to his military training, staying calm, building a fire, and using his sleeping bag and layers to stay warm. A big thanks goes out to Jackson and Grand County responders, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, search dog teams, and all others who helped pull off this dramatic rescue. Moral of the story? Being prepared can make all the difference — especially when Mother Nature has other plans. Representative Harriet Hageman has introduced the Grizzly Bear State Management Act of 2025, which supporters say reflects decades of conservation success. Grizzly numbers in the region have rebounded from just a few hundred in the 1970s to nearly 1,000 today, meeting recovery targets set back in 1993. Advocates argue it's time to return management to the states, allowing for more flexible and responsive action on local issues — especially as livestock conflicts rise. Last year, grizzlies killed 91 cattle in Wyoming, the highest number on record. The bill also aims to cut through federal red tape, reinstating a Trump-era delisting rule and blocking future legal challenges that have stalled similar efforts. Supporters say it will free up resources at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and help speed up energy development and wildlife responses. While environmental groups warn that grizzlies still face genetic and habitat threats, Wyoming leaders say the bear has recovered — and state wildlife agencies are ready to manage them responsibly. Wyoming's stance? Grizzlies have recovered. It's time to let states take the reins. These jellyfish are no joke: they can weigh up to 50 pounds and their tentacles can stretch as long as 70 feet. From Port Aransas to Corpus Christi, beachgoers are spotting more of them than ever before. Marine biologist Jace Tunnell from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi says it's unlike anything he's seen in years of beachcombing. “I grew up on the beach and had never seen one until this year,” he said. The “pink meanie” was only officially recognized in 2011 and is known for its cotton candy color and its appetite for other jellyfish — especially moon jellies, which are currently blooming in Gulf waters. What to Do If You Get Stung While the sting isn't life-threatening, it can hurt — lasting about 10 minutes with red marks that stay for a couple of days. Here's how to treat it: Get out of the water immediately. Remove tentacles carefully using gloves or a tool — don't use bare hands. Rinse the sting with seawater, not freshwater. Pour vinegar over the sting to neutralize any remaining stinging cells. Apply hot (not scalding) water for 20 minutes to ease the pain. Avoid rubbing the area, and watch for any signs of allergic reaction. Experts say these jellyfish likely won't stick around — once cooler weather hits, both moon jellies and pink meanies are expected to disappear from Texas shores. Use templates to speed up creation, then launch with a freebie → tripwire funnel to validate and sell quickly. Why Printables Work Right Now Low lift, high leverage: Customize a Canva template (fonts, colors, logo) and publish—often in under an hour. Evergreen sales: Once published, they can sell on autopilot for months or years. Niche = pricing power: Generic planners might be $3–$7, while niche planners (e.g., Cub Scouts, ADHD students, cosplay) can command $27–$30+. What Sells: Printable Ideas You Can Launch This Week Niche Planners Social media manager planner, homeschool unit planner, event vendor planner, cosplay build planner. (Niche = higher price.) Checklists & Trackers “Publish a blog post” checklist, budget tracker, habit tracker, kids' sports gear checklist. Kids' Activities (Seasonal wins!) Holiday scavenger hunts, coloring pages, word searches, puzzle packs. Party Printables Theme decor + games (e.g., unicorns, secret agent kits), ready to print and assemble. Wall Art Quote prints, nursery sets, bold geometric scripture posters for a younger aesthetic. Pro tip: Mine your top 3 blog posts and create a hyper-relevant printable for each. Ask: “What's the reader's very next step after this post?” Build that as a checklist or mini-planner. Your 60-Minute Launch Plan (Step-by-Step) 00:00–10:00 — Pick the idea Choose a printable tied to one of your highest-traffic posts (or a pain point you solve). 10:00–40:00 — Customize a Template Grab a Canva template (e.g., from Printables and More Club) and make quick edits: brand fonts/colors, logo, page titles, swap graphics. Keep it simple. 40:00–60:00 — Publish with MiloTree (Free) Create a freebie (e.g., Easter scavenger hunt) to collect emails. Add a tripwire on the thank-you page (e.g., full Easter activity pack). MiloTree hosts/delivers both, and your AI-generated sales page is done for you—free plan available. Funnel That Converts: Freebie → Tripwire Lead Magnet (Freebie): One valuable page (checklist, scavenger hunt, mini-planner page). Tripwire (Paid): Right after signup, offer the bigger, done-for-them pack (e.g., 20-page activity bundle or full planner) at a limited-time price. This works because the freebie pre-qualifies intent—buyers already want more of the same. Tools & Tactics That Make It Easy Templates in Canva: Perfect for non-designers; update in minutes. MiloTree Free Plan: Spin up AI-generated sales and opt-in pages Deliver freebies automatically Add social pop-ups to grow followers Set up tripwires without extra tools (all on the free plan) Optional Digital Planning: Many customers still print PDFs, but some use GoodNotes on iPad; simple PDFs work great. Pricing Hints Starters: $5–$9 for checklists/trackers Bundles/Activity Packs: $9–$19 Niche Planners: $27–$30+ (specific beats generic) Quick Start Checklist Pick 1 printable tied to a top post Customize a Canva template (fonts, colors, logo) Upload to MiloTree (Free) as a paid product Create a matching freebie to grow your list Add a tripwire offer on the thank-you page Promote the opt-in link in your post + sidebar + social bios Iterate weekly (new seasonal or niche variation) Final Takeaway You don't need a huge course to monetize—you need one helpful printable aligned to a real problem your audience has. Use a template, ship a freebie today, add a small paid upgrade, and let MiloTree handle the delivery and sales page for you. Rinse and repeat, especially for seasonal content. Your first $7 sale is the hardest; the rest compound. Other Posts You'll Love

We may have grown up learning that Samson's story was one of heroic strength, strength that was tied to his long hair.Sadly, Samson's story is far more tragic. His strength came as a result of his consecration to God, part of his Nazirite vow, and that strength left him with the Spirit of God's departure in the scene with Delilah. Samson's story offers us SO MANY critical warnings, and I offer some important ones from my own life.If you are able, review Judges 13-16, as we turn to Samson's story of "Faith of Tragic Strength," today on Rinse and Repeat!(RAR2025EP40)

Nick tracks down Dr. Brent Race, a lead scientist from NIH (National Institutes of Health) who worked on the study; Inactivation of chronic wasting disease prions using sodium hypochlorite. The findings are exciting and promising for home or commercial processors who could be butchering infected deer. Using a solution of 40% bleach and a soak of 5 minutes, CWD prions can be inactivated, saving your cutlery, and non-porous cutting surfaces from infecting further butcher jobs, thus having to be pitched. With many parts of the country, including my home county in Michigan, having to face this growing problem that is showing to be very formidable. However, this may be a battle won in the ongoing war of CWD. Dr. Race explained that deactivating other infectious prion diseases with bleach is “old news”, but no work had been done on CWD in cervides (classification of the deer species) with a bleach treatment. Running several simulations with infected brain matter, stainless steel rods were covered in infectious prions and submerged in different concentrations of bleach along with varying amounts of time. The now treated roda were moved over to a solution of healthy prion material. Activated infectious prions would begin mutating healthy prions, making them infectious. In-activated infectious prions can't mutate healthy prions, meaning they couldn't spread the infection. In-activated infectious prions can't mutate healthy prions, meaning they couldn't spread the infection.Article: https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/household-bleach-inactivates-chronic-wasting-disease-prionsActual Study (if you enjoy scientific reading):https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0223659From the discussion, Huntavore has put together some procedures to think about when cutting up your own deer that could be infected. Mind you these are steps are being proactive, reacting to not knowing your deer is positive for CWD, rather than reactive and scrambling with the news of knowing your deer is positive,Setup:Put down a disposable ground covering, like plastic drop cloth or construction paper (the large rolls). Place cutting table on covered area. Might want to avoid the kitchen table.Proceed cutting up the animal making sure keep cuts in non-porous containersBag, seal, wrap, whatever your storing method then box up, freeze, and wait for the results (hardest part). Try to avoid grinding meat at this point.Clean Up:Make sure the area is WELL ventilated.Brush fat, and silverskin, small bits on the ground cover, rollup and bag up.Wash and scrub both table/cutting boards, and used saws or knives per usual. Removing all remaining macro bits. Rinse and let dry (to not dilute the bleach treatment.Sack up all sponges/rags/Brillo pads that were used (wait on the test results, if positive, toss with the meat. If ok, they can be used again.)Mix up a container of 1 to 1 parts water and household bleach. Place all cutlery in the solution, making sure bleach can get to all surfaces. Set a timer for 5 minutes, watch carefully. Pull, rinse, let dry before putting away.In a spray bottle, filled with full strength bleach, spray down cutting boards or cutting table, as long as they are non porous. Let set for 5-7 minutes, watching the surface so it's not damaged by the bleach. When time is up, rinse off and let dry.Show Partners:Umai DryInstagram: @umaidryWebsite: bit.ly/3WhfnnXSign up for the newsletter for 10% offTieBossInstagram: @tiebossllcWebsite: https://tieboss.com/pod?ref=pod Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. CEO Amplify | Business Operations, Sustainable Growth Strategies, Small Business Leadership
If running your business feels like juggling flaming swords while riding a unicycle, workflow automation might be the fire extinguisher you need. I’m breaking down small business workflow automation in plain English, so you can cut the busywork, keep clients happy, and focus on growth. This isn’t about replacing people with robots. It’s about making your business work smarter so you can lead with calm instead of chaos. Even if you’re a solo entrepreneur or have a small team, automation can give you back hours every week and protect your mental bandwidth. What You’ll Learn in This Episode The true cost of not automating (hint: it’s more than just wasted time) The difference between automation vs. delegation and why you need both A 3-level framework for automation that keeps things simple and scalable How to use the Rinse and Repeat Rule to spot tasks you should automate first The tech audit approach to avoid overwhelm and tool overload Common myths and mistakes about automation (and how to avoid them) How to calculate the ROI of automation so you know it’s worth the effort Eight quick wins you can automate this week to save hours instantly Why This Matters Too many business owners are building bigger hamster wheels for themselves. Without automation, every repetitive task drains your time, slows response times, and adds stress. With the right systems in place, you can free up energy for strategy, growth, and the meaningful work only you can do. Resources & Links Book a Focus and Freedom Call to map out what to automate first. Free resource: CEO Power Hour Playbook Final Takeaway Start small, start simple, and build layer by layer. Small business workflow automation isn’t about doing more, it’s about doing less of the wrong things so you have more capacity for the right things. Enjoyed this episode? Today, we explore the faith of a man many have never even heard of - Barak. The military commander during the time of Deborah the judge and prophetess, Barak's faith was imperfect, as was every person's faith we have studied so far in Hebrews 11. In Barak's case, we get to see an example of faith that moves forward, even when afraid. Fear and cowardice are two very different things, as we will soon see, today, on Rinse and Repeat!

With the price of food we can't afford to waste even a bit! Leeks are fat right now and if you're someone who discards a lot of the green part, listen up. Here's some fab ways to use them. Crispy Leek Topping Thinly slice the green leek tops. Rinse in a bowl of cold water to get any dirt out. Transfer to a towel and pat dry. Heat a pan to medium, then add in 1 tbsp each of butter and oil. Shallow fry until slightly browned and crispy, about 6-8 minutes. You could add some thyme or tarragon towards the end of cooking. Transfer to a plate and season with salt and pepper. Use as topper for fish, risotto, salads or cool completely and stir into softened butter to butter crusty bread with. Softened Leek Compote Chop green part of leek into 1-2 cm lengths. Melt 3 tbsp butter plus 1 tbsp of oil in pan. Add the leeks, cover and cook on medium for 20 minutes. Add in a crushed garlic clove, zest from half a lemon, a splash of white wine and ½ tsp sea salt and pepper. Continue cooking for 15-20 more minutes or until the leeks are meltingly soft. Season to taste. Stir through pasta along with a handful of grated parmesan, serve on toast (maybe add a dollop of sour cream), smear over a pizza base and top with bacon and cheese for a ‘blanc pizza', or loosen with some hot stock and treat as you would a soup. Other uses: Add them to a cheesy quiche / tart. Omelettes love leeks. Saute with mushrooms. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

You've heard the promise: set up your systems once, rinse and repeat forever. Sounds dreamy, right? The truth is… there's no such thing as rinse and repeat when it comes to launching. In this episode of Unjaded, Vickie Dickson calls BS on the rinse-and-repeat fantasy that keeps so many entrepreneurs stuck, waiting to “get it perfect” before they ever put an offer out into the world. She shares why launching is not optional if you want to grow your business, which pieces can be systemized, and why every single launch requires fresh energy, tweaks, and inner growth. You'll learn:Why launching isn't optional if you want a sustainable businessThe difference between creating a repeatable framework vs expecting an effortless rinse-and-repeat systemHow to choose a launch style that works for you (and why it doesn't have to look like anyone else's)What really happens behind the scenes of a launch (and why even “big names” are constantly reworking)How Human Design can guide your launch style, messaging, and energyThe inner growth that comes with every launch—and why that's the real gift of entrepreneurshipIf you've been sitting on the sidelines, afraid to start because you think it all has to be perfect and permanent from day one, this conversation will give you permission to just start. OLD-TIME RADIO ESSENTIALS Episode 51: Wayne & Shuster Old-Time Radio Essentials returns with episode 51, and as we continue Season 5, we present Patte's pick, an example of the Canadian comedy duo Wayne & Shuster, in which they present their famous routine, "Rinse the Blood Off My Toga" -- a sort of Julius-Caesar-meets-Mickey-Spillane. Come for the old-time radio, stay for the scintillating (that's one way of putting it) discussion afterwards! As you listen, perhaps you'll learn if we feel this entry meets the following criteria: 1. Is it truly representative of that series? (Can anyone point to it and say, "Yes, that is what [NAME OF SERIES] was all about.") 2. Is it an episode worthy of inclusion in any and every OTR aficionado's private collection? So with this in mind, we three bring you, as our fifty-first number (but 2nd official episode of S5), this episode of Wayne & Shuster, from 2-4-54. We'll introduce the show, play it in its entirety, then discuss it at length. Thanks for joining us, and we hope you enjoy it! Please show your support of the podcast by doing any of the following... To comment on how we might improve OTR-E, or give suggestions for future discussions, please write to us at f6point3@gmail.com . Put the word "Essentials" in the subject line. Your feedback means a lot to us! A review at iTunes or at your usual podcatcher would be appreciated. Next Time: It's Paul's pick again, and he had nothing ready by the time we asked him what it was, but we're it'll be something...interesting. Join us then, won't you?

Pro tip: If you can't see yourself getting up every morning for the next ten years and being excited about going to work, don't launch a startup. Ajay Prakash co-founded Rinse in 2013 to take the friction out of laundry and dry cleaning — for consumers, and for the small, family-owned businesses behind the counter. Since then, Rinse has scaled into a national brand, and Ajay has become a lecturer at Stanford Graduate Business School's Startup Garage, where he teaches frameworks for validating ideas, testing business models, and knowing when it's time to take the leap into entrepreneurship. I invited him on to share what he's learned about developing domain expertise from scratch, building trust with co-founders, and avoiding the early mistakes that can derail a promising business. RUNTIME 42:38 EPISODE BREAKDOWN (2:22) Ajay talks about two trends that led him to co-found Rinse in 2013. (4:15) Rinse co-founder James Joun was “one of my best friends from college.” (5:29) “When we started, we spent a lot of time with James' parents in the dry-cleaning store.” (6:40) Before taking the leap, founders should identify their “passion, expertise, and market opportunity.” (9:11) “As you build a company, answering the question of ‘why now' and ‘why me' is really important.” (11:19) “We signed up 11 of our friends. We picked up their clothes.” (14:17) “Every smart investor we talked to… told us we had to be on-demand.” (17:41) Early signals led Rinse to pivot from pricing per pound to adopting a subscription model. (20:23) His approach to crafting customer personas. (22:05) “We always envisioned helping the local cleaners.” (27:11) From the start, Rinse used Net Promoter Scores and surveys to glean customer insights. (30:44) The “two general areas of lessons” Ajay teaches at Stanford's Startup Garage. (34:53) Why he encourages Startup Garage students to keep asking themselves, “Am I still excited?” (37:41) How to prepare for the mental challenges of being a startup founder. The biggest tin foil hat conspiracy theory we all need to pay attention to is we humans have the ability to think and exist in a bigger way. From a young age, we're programmed to play smaller. Why would we do this? First off, control. When a colt horse is a colt or a pony, you can tie it to the reigns and to a poll. Once it realize it can't break free from the pole, it stops fighting. The reigns are removed and now, they're tame. The same goes for humans. If you think you can do something or you can do something, you're right. How do you do bigger things? It's simple. Goaling and regoaling. If you want to make one million dollars. Goal number one is $100,000. Goal number 2 is $250,000. Goal number 3 is $500,000. And so on and so forth. It takes time to hit your goals, but you can't go from 0 to a million. If you want to make $100,000, you have to make $300 a day. Set an attainable goal. Reach the goal. Reset the goal. Rinse and repeat.
