Dreamcatcher is one of Stephen King's least favorite of his own novels, but how does it stack up with the co-hosts of a very popular film podcast? This story of a group of childhood friends battling an extra-terrestrial menace with psychic powers and a little help from their deeply problematic friend, Duddits, should have been a non-stop pinata party, but there are some surprise fans in the mix for this discussion.

Episode Notes Problematic issues ahoy! This alien body horror psychic conglomeration is brought to us by Stephen King's accident and attendant oxy usage. Lemuel is extra bougie this week while Amity tries to give it the benefit of the doubt, thought when it comes to Duddits, those benefits run out. Listen for our take on Donnie Walberg's second most wild role and the miscasting of Morgan Freeman. On this episode of Forgotten Cinema the Mike's visit their Memory Warehouses to discuss the 2003 Stephen King adaptation, Dreamcatcher, starring Damien Lewis, Thomas Jane, Morgan Freeman, Tom Sizemore, Jason Lee, Timothy Olyphant, and of course Donnie NKOTB Wahlberg as Duddits. Michael Butler and Michael Field talk about how making completely faithful adaptations of certain novels don't translate well into film and how driving narrative focus away from your core characters can lead to audience apathy. Or just listen in to hear Field lambast Butler throughout the podcast for having never seen True Romance. So grab your popcorn and soda, please notice the exits at the front and rear of the auditorium, and settle down for Forgotten Cinema.
Jonesy, Henry, Pete and Beaver. Twenty years ago they were just kids in a small town in Maine - kids who found the courage to respond heroically to childhood cruelty. In saving a strange boy named Duddits, they unexpectedly gained a fifth friend at the center of their circle. Even more unexpected were the uncanny powers he conveyed to them, bonding them all beyond ordinary friendship. Now the four are men with separate lives and separate problems, haunted by the memory of heroism, with powers that are more of a burden than a gift. When a shocking accident almost claims one of them, they don't at first recognize the return of the eeriness that is somehow linked to Duddits. But when they reunite for their annual visit to a hunting cabin in the north woods, anticipating only the warmth and humor that nourishes them, they are overtaken by a gathering doom. First comes a stranger, a lost hunter unaware of the terrible contagion he bears. On his heels is a blizzard, a vicious storm in which something much more ominous moves--a deadly alien force that will consume some of the foursome and force those who make it to the end of the road to once again summon their forgotten strength--and confront an unparalleled horror. I gave this movie a 2/10 which puts it about 12 points above "Mandy". As a thanks for listening, I'd like to present you with a free $20 ride voucher for LYFT. In our first 2 parter ever, we break down 2003's Dreamcatcher. This movie is insanity. There is just about everything you want in a bad movie in this one. It is a scosh too long but this one's got it all with the combination of the stupid plot, the bad acting, the cheesy movie monster (it comes out butts), the dubiousness of Morgan Freeman and Tom Sizemore's characters, and Dudditts. Wow, Duddits. We love you, Duddits. The primary mistake this movie makes is poop. Really really. The film is meant to be frightening. The elements in concept are horrific. Being killed by something that is too big to be inside you coming out of your butt is possibly one of the worst ways to go. The Spanish Inquisition had nicer ways of killing people. Josef Mengele would have loved to have a bunch of shit weasels at his disposal. However, this is not scary in Dreamcatcher, it's hilarious. By the time the "horror" starts in this film, you've been giggling about farts and poop for ten minutes. So it's pretty tough to be scared. Questions abound in this thing. It is more dubious than Wicker Man. How do the aliens work? What's their reproduction cycle? Are the shit weasels actually the same species? Why is it called Dreamcatcher? Is Duddits mentally handicapped or just has a speech impediment? Who is Duddits? Did his mom screw an alien? Seriously, what's with Morgan Freeman's eyebrows...the list goes on and on. We were able to figure The Wicker Man out but this one defeated us. We just can't come up with theories to answer these....
Duddits is the man of the week as we go back to one of the most surprisingly bad (we mean bad) blockbusters of all time. It's 2003's Stephen King based Dreamcatcher starring every single actor ever! Streaming Do's and Don'ts Well we didn't watch any streaming movies. Stupid Xmas planning. However Jackie and Justin watched San Andreas and really should have been thrown under the bus by critics. It stinks! The Great Superpower Debate Sound Effect and Vocal Replication AKA Michael Winslow from Police Academy
