Providing inclusive food and beverage experiences is more than ensuring you have options for food allergic and vegan attendees. It also means making sure everyone has equal access to the event. Elisa Hays and I met at a convention luncheon where she did not have equal access. Learn how to ensure she does next time. We also talk how this impacts experiences during the COVID pandemic. Ep #08 - Elisa Hays, an international speaker and entrepreneur, joins the show today for an interview to discuss how to get booked to speak by fairs and festivals as well as how to bring a performance based speech. Additionally, we explore what it takes to get booked into associations relating to the fair industry such as the IAFE (International Association of Fairs and Exhibitions). Elisa is the president of the National Speaker Association's Northwest Chapter and we even discuss how to get booked to speak there.  Elisa began speaking, training and business consulting in 1999 while building "Let’s Pretend Entertainment," a family-centric theater company where fairs and festivals would bring her in along with her speakers to put on entertaining shows with high audience engagement. Elisa eventually sold that business after 15 years of speaking and putting on shows. Elisa also shares very candidly about her life changing moment being hit by a semi truck going 65 mph while she was standing still. It's an incredible story of overcoming, leadership, resilience, and sacrifice. Listen in, I promise you will be transformed because of it. She is amazing, and you will love this interview! One key point that I hope to highlight in every guest’s story is how they  overcame whatever odds they were given. It is truly so easy to give up when life hands us a problem. It is the easiest thing in the word. It takes so much courage, devotion, and hard work to accept the hardships in our lives and begin the steps to succeed in spite of them. Someone who knows this struggle all too well is Elisa. On a regular day, just like any other, Elisa Hays’ life would forever change. Driving down a highway, Elisa would encounter a head on collision with a semi truck. She could have chosen to allow this to derail her completely. She could have allowed her new disability to make her a homebody who curses the hand she was dealt. She could have done all this but instead, Elisa chose a different path for herself.  Her current journey is one of kindness, hope, and redemption. If you enjoyed this interview with Elisa, I highly recommend getting your tickets to the Magnificent You Women’s Conference to hear the rest of her story as well as her tips on becoming an inspirational leader. In a show about women mentoring women, it is important to pay tribute to the women who came before us and paved the way to equality. The fight for equal representation in our workplaces and in our society still continues, but I am inspired by the words of Florence Nightingale, “I attribute my success to this - I never gave or took any excuse.” Today, let’s take a leaf out of Florence’s book and stop making excuses and start being the leaders we want to see change the world.    March 8th is International Women’s Day, and the theme for 2018 is “Press for Progress.” I want to take a look together about how you can I can embody the press for progress together. What will it take to see women in corporate leadership roles? What about diversity within those women in leadership? Changes are happening, but they will only stick if we show up! I am excited to continue the conversation with you today in this episode!    More in this episode: Let’s learn some life lessons from Florence Nightingale.  How International Women’s Day came to be.  You run your life!  How progress happens.  The surprise waiting for you in the next episode!    Resources Internationalwomensday.com   Connect with me!  Elisahays.com

As the great Ruth Bader Ginsberg once said, “My mother told me to be a lady. And for her, that meant to be your own person, be independent.” It’s tough to learn how to be independent and self-assured without some guidance. The role of a mother or a mentor is absolutely important for young women on the rise, so I wanted to create a place for women to teach one another how to be a lady. My name is Elisa Hays, and this podcast is something like a letter to my daughters, and any daughters anywhere.    Today, you will hear not just why I think mentorship is so important, but also why it became very important very quickly. You will get the chance to hear my story about a tragic accident that left me on the doors of death. Even though I had less than 5% of a chance to survive, here I stand today, and I am not going to let that life go to waste! My daughter almost lost her mother and her mentor, so here are the things I would have wanted my daughter to know in my absence. I want to collect all the best wisdom, stories, and tools that women young and old can use on their journey to becoming the lady they were destined to be.    So share this with a sister, a friend, or a young woman in your life who might be in need of some guidance. These are open letters, after all. You might hear just the wisdom you need!    More in this episode:  Why do young women even need a mentor?  My story of the accident that left me an unusual amputee.  How my daughter and I drew closer together after the accident.  My sources of inspiration and insight.  What to expect next!    Connect With Me Online  https://elisahays.com/

A win-win strategy for both buyers and sellers trying to find common ground at trade shows. In this discussion, Elisa Hays and Alan Bruess talk about how to communicate more effectively between the two sides and the importance of creating dialogue centered on added value. Show Notes What does “negotiating up” mean? What buyers and sellers can ask each other to start negotiating How can an entertainer provide more value to get higher pay? Solving the problem of maximizing value with a limited budget Trade shows and conventions matter to both the fair management and fair service providers The trade show interaction is transactional and relational, according to Elisa When fair managers decide to “negotiate down” they bring in LESS to the fair When entertainers try to book their business and they look at big holes in their calendar Nobody wants to step up their game when somebody keeps negotiating down When entertainers say: “ I guess I’m not a good fit for you” Can entertainers emphasize their main skills and prominently display more? Service members can negotiate up by being problem-solvers When asking more and telling less is highly appropriate   Resources:   http://www.elisahays.org
