But mostly, it features songwriting by Marc Gunn with guests including: Screeched Inn, The Muckers, Jamie Haeuser, Sam Gillogly, Nathan Deese, and Mikey Mason. Selcouth means, “when everything is strange and different, yet you find it marvelous anyway.” The album is not completely Celtic and it's not just science fiction and fantasy. It's a fusion of the two. It's heartfelt and a lot of fun. It's now on sale in my Bandcamp store. Check out Selcouth now. THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! Trained in clinical psychology, Bayo Akomolafe, Ph.D. now works as an author, speaker, and professor. He is recognized worldwide for his thoughtful and unconventional take on global crises, trauma and social change. Bayo starts off by sharing a proverb from his Yoruba people: “In order to find your way, you must become lost”. This leads to an invitation to being in the world in a different way. He offers an alternative, non-pathologizing way to think about trauma and our adaptations to it. Instead of pathologizing what we are afraid of, he invites us to “lean into the cracks, the failures… and maybe by performing your way through those cracks, you may find other ways of being in the world.” Throughout this episode, Bayo offers a possible new vision through stories of transformation. About Bayo: Bayo Akomolafe (Ph.D.), rooted with the Yoruba people in a more-than-human world, is the father to Alethea and Kyah, the grateful life-partner to Ije, son and brother. This week we are rebroadcasting our interview with Dr. Bayo Akomolafe, originally aired in January of 2020. Our hearts and minds are set to work by the urgent eco-social crises of this time. Caught in a cultural twitch of frenetic production and the sticky paradigms of modernity, we've penned vocabulary and designed technologies, manufactured frameworks and crunched numbers in an effort to diagnose and “treat” planetary collapse. We are invited by this week's guest, Dr. Bayo Akomolafe, to pause and abandon solutionism, step back from the project of progress, and dance into a different set of questions: What does the Anthropocene teach us as a destabilizing agent that resists our taming? How can we show up in our movements of justice if “the ways we respond to crisis is part of the crisis”? What happens when we unfurl into a space of slowness and relinquish human mastery to a wider cosmic net of relations? Bayo Akomolafe (Ph.D.) considers his most sacred work to be learning how to be with his daughter and son, Alethea Aanya and Kyah Jayden—and their mother, his wife and "life-nectar,” Ijeoma. An author, speaker, renegade academic, and proud father, Bayo is Chief Curator and Director of The Emergence Network, a constellation of humans and nonhumans working together trans-locally to curate projects, rituals, conversations and events that nurture senses of the otherwise via practices that trouble the traditional boundaries of agency and possibility. Bayo is also a visiting professor at Middlebury College, Vermont, and has taught in universities around the world. He is a consultant with UNESCO, leading efforts for the Imagining Africa's Future (IAF) project. Bayo has authored two books, We Will Tell Our Own Story! and These Wilds Beyond our Fences: Letters to My Daughter on Humanity's Search for Home, and has penned forewords for many others. In today's episode CesarRespino.com brings to you Gina M. Garcia to You Can Overcome Anything! Podcast show.Gina M. Garcia is the 1%. Ninety-nine percent of all children abducted by a stranger are murdered within the first 24 hours, according to NCMEC. Gina, age 8 saved herself by jumping out of a moving car half-naked, after being brutally raped and assaulted at knife point, in a Florida mall on October 12, 1981. She was taken by the same person that murdered Adam Walsh, (son of John Walsh from America's Most Wanted). With Gina's understanding of the journey of healing from sexual trauma, she was inspired to write a script with hopes of helping other survivors. At a chance meeting she asked Patty Jenkins to direct her film. Patty said “No Gina-- you have to tell your story.” Gina stated she wasn't a director, but Patty's response was “you will be when you are done”. Gina flexed her own manifesting muscle and the director of ‘Monster' taught her how to be her own ‘Wonder Woman!' With Patty Jenkins as mentor, Gina wrote, produced and directed her life story in her directorial debut “Untold: This is My Story” which she self-funded. Gina believes that when it comes to trauma, no story should go UNTOLD!Gina's message to you is:You have a voice and can get to the other side of trauma. TODAY'S GUEST Dr. Bayo Akomolafe is an academic lecturer, a spiritual leader, a disillusioned activist, and the author of These Wilds Beyond Our Fences: Letters to My Daughter on Humanity's Search for Home. He was born in 1983 into a Christian home, and to Yoruba parents in western Nigeria. Soon after he was born, his family emigrated to Bonn, Germany with his father on his first diplomatic assignment. This, Bayo's first trip, would foreshadow a life of travel, both literally and figuratively. He currently lectures at Pacifica Graduate Institute, California and University of Vermont. He's also Professor of Practice at Middlebury College. He sits on the board of many organizations including Science and Nonduality, Unashay Sanctuary, and more. Now living between India and the United States, Bayo is a proud father and a devoted husband. EPISODE SUMMARY In this conversation we talk about: Growing up in transition, Nigeria to Germany, and then many other places. Family being a constant value in his life. His love-hate relationship with India. His activism and his postactivism, and what does it mean to be a postactivist or to be postactivistic? And specifically, what it means to discover as an activist that your very activism has become part of the problem you're trying to solve. What does it mean to engage with the world without trying to apply your prejudices on it? Hope, and why it too can be problematic. How he sees the world, and how he tries to not get trapped by images and words, to experience a world that's alive and not static and dead. And to avoid overly defining things and overly restricting our view of the world through that definition. I talked to Bayo at the end of January, and it was right after a Design Sprint with Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie (a former guest of the podcast), where Bayo's work and his online course was one of the demos that we looked at as an example. I'm very excited to bring you this conversation with Bayo, and I was very excited to talk to him. His writing is intensely beautiful. He speaks and seems to think in poetry. His words paint pictures that move us, but avoid being captured. I think Bayo is an awakened person. He clearly sees things in a way that's deeper and that's hard to comprehend sometimes. But his efforts at clarity and communication are very obvious and evident here, and I think it will be appreciated. I'm a little bit worried that people who don't really have any strong spiritual background might find some of these topics hard to understand or relate to. So I want to leave you with this recommendation. I would like you to imagine the world as a dynamic, elaborate, interdependent, ever-changing and shifting, an intensely alive cloud of interactions, where nothing is quite as solid or as clear-cut as it seems to be. Now, imagine seeing this mess so clearly you can feel it in your being, and then having to find the words to describe it, knowing full well that every word and sentence leaves out as much as it brings in. And so, as you listen to Bayo with words, I would like you to try to understand that he's trying to communicate something that's intensely nonverbal. That's at least how I connect with it and how I find my way into it. This is one of a dozen or so weekly conversations we already have lined up for you with thinkers, designers, makers, authors, entrepreneurs, and activists, who are working to change our world for the better. So please follow this podcast on your favorite podcast app or head over to remakepod.org to subscribe. And now let's jump right in with Dr. Bayo Akomolafe. CesarRespino.com brings back to you for a second time after a year bigger and greater to You Can Overcome Anything! Podcast show Birgit Yegülalp.Birgit moved abroad when I she 20 for the first time and did so again 5 times after. She lived on Aruba, in Austria in the mountains, Barcelona & London for studies and her previous job as hotel manager a headhunter. When she was living in the Netherlands she always moved away from the known and where her family lived to Amsterdam. She was always dreaming of stepping out of what society thinks you should do, adventure and travelling, and she did in small amounts. It wasn't enough. Next to her fulltime jobs, she would always find fulfilment in scuba diving and a lot of sports to challenge herself instead. When she was 24 her father got diagnosed a blood cancer called multiple myeloma. So she postponed her dreams of travelling the world, working in scuba diving and starting her own company, although she did not know what yet. For years she was struggling with my happiness, restlessness and light depressions. she kept fighting but it was tiring. In 2012 she took a 10 days silent mediation course which started slowly opening her up inside since she closed off from all my feelings because she was so sensitive from her 12th. Due to that she suffered a massive eating addiction and when she was 21, returning from Aruba she was obese and no one recognized her. Fast forward In December 2019 she felt she should leave and on her way back to the Netherlands via Malta, she finally got the idea to start her own business, helping other people face their fears and live their life to the fullest. Out of their comfort zones is where she make people shine! she found herself a mentor in January 2020 and within 6 months she launched her first training and clients and was on her way. She started a Podcast earlier that same year: The Cheering with Birgit Podcast.Birgit's message to you is:If you don't work on your fears and follow your heart that will be the thing you'll regret most when you are grey and old and then it will be too late!To Connect with Birgit Yegülalp go to:https://shop.birgityegulalp.comhttps://www.facebook.com/cheeringwithbirgithttps://www.instagram.com/cheeringwithbirgithttps://www.subscribepage.com/cwbpodcastTo Connect with CesarRespino go to:

Middle school years should be for learning and growing and learning from their mistakes and as parents, we should focus on helping our children recognize that. Also, most parents think they just need to wait out the middle school years and hope their kid reconnects with them later, but it doesn't need to be like that. When they listen and show interest, focus on mutual trust and understanding their children's needs during this formative time, they can stay connected and raise a grounded child. To connect with Erin Hansen go to:website: www.middleschoollifecoach.com Instagram: www.instagram.com/iamerinhansen To Connect with CesarRespino go to:

Today's guest has trod a journey - a path many of us fear deeply. In April 2018 Ella Ward was - as she says - ‘hit with the cancer stick'. Apart from being rather frightening it also encouraged a foray into oversharing on Instagram and writing. But it's possible Ella was always destined down the writers path coming from a family of story tellers. In her first published book Ella Ward weaves together 27 letters to her daughter - actually it's the title too - '27 Letters to My Daughter'. Knitted together across these letters are generations of words and experiences from her great grandparents, grandparents, mother, and her own stories offered as treasures for the heart of her daughter. Treasures for us all. I had the chance to skim the book before Ella and I connected and since this chat I've devoured ever word, laughed and cried and soaked up all 188 life lessons. This is a book you'll want to read, reread and gift generously. Ella has worked in advertising for twenty years, for agencies in London and Melbourne. Most recently she headed up Client Service for Saatchi & Saatchi. And she bloody loves the world of advertising. She has one husband and one child, and a number of ongoing existential crises. Pause whatever else you are doing and dive into this conversation with the whip-smart and utterly delightful Ella Ward
Thanks for joining us again after what's been the longest break we've had since the podcast launched in 2016. It's been a sabbatical of sorts. I was able to take three months off from everything at the end of last year - which after 15 years in business was a strange, important and timely space to have. I'm truly grateful for the opportunity and recognise the privilege that comes with me being able to take that break. In the background this year we've been crafting exceptional connections with extraordinary guests for the podcast. One of the things I value highly in diversity in thinking, industries and perspectives and the team and I are endeavouring to connect with people that you'll both know their names and also people that maybe you don't. Everyone has a story to share and this platform helps to provide a small slice of those stories. Thank you to you for your listenership - for your interest and for your support. It's really my goal to give you massive value and to have your thinking stretched and ideas for what life could be for you expanded. In order to celebrate our return in 2022 (because April is the new January - trust me) we'll be putting out two episodes per week for the first few weeks. And these episode are all amazing (I might be slightly biased but trust me). You'll reconnect with Lise and Sarah or Those Two Girls, I speak with the amazing comedian Cal Wilson and the first episode for this year is with someone who's book recently left me gasping as it's beauty, laughing at it's wit, and crying at it's depth of humanity. Ella Wards book '27 Letters to My Daughter' is beautiful and you don't want to miss this first episode. Thanks again for your hearts, minds, kindness and support. Here's to 2022 - the year that's still filled with mess, imperfection and uncertainty - also having moments of clarity, reconnection to what matters and a few belly laughs along the way. Because to me that's truly a Stand Out Life.
