September 7th, 2025 | Fortify | Ephesians 5:15-17In this urgent and hope-filled message, Pastor Kyle Riley brings a passionate call to parents, leaders, and believers to wake up to the spiritual battle raging for the hearts of the next generation.Drawing from Ephesians 5 and 6, Pastor Kyle unpacks the real problem—not just what's happening in the world, but what's happening in our homes. Our walk—how we live—is the #1 apologetic to reaching the next generation. And the mission field? It starts right where we live, not in far-off places.Whether you're a parent, grandparent, mentor, or student, this episode challenges you to:Redeem the time and walk with discernmentUnderstand God's will for parenting and discipleshipRecognize how the enemy slips into our homes unnoticedStop outsourcing discipleship and start fighting for your familyBecome the spiritual leader your children need, not someday—but todayThrough powerful Scripture, real-life illustrations (like a sparkler mishap that turned into a spiritual wake-up call), and honest reflection, Pastor Kyle reminds us: it's not too late. There is hope, there is grace, and there is power in the name of Jesus to break strongholds and restore what's been lost.Key Scriptures:Ephesians 5:15–17, Ephesians 6:1–4, Deuteronomy 6, 1 Peter 5:8, James 4:17, John 15:12–13Call to Action:- Parents and grandparents—pray over your families. Everyone else—get on your knees and fight in prayer for the next generation. The days are evil, but the light of Christ shines brighter when we choose to walk in wisdom.Do you know JESUS?: https://www.nblongview.org/do-you-know-jesusNeed PRAYER?: https://www.nblongview.org/praySUPPORT through giving: https://www.nbbctx.org/giving

I finally got Allison Powell—producer, ultrarunner, and now bonafide backpacker—on the podcast to talk about her first solo thru-hike: the Wonderland Trail. Spoiler alert: she tried to bring hummus, carrots, and a full picnic on a 90+ mile, three-day solo trip around Mount Rainier. But somehow, despite a heavy pack, trail math struggles, and losing her travel mug to the forest gods, she pulled it off.Consider supporting my fundraising efforts for the Trevor Project: https://give.thetrevorproject.org/JeffATFollow Allison online: https://www.instagram.com/allisonhpowell/In this episode, we break down how a seasoned ultrarunner transitions (read: suffers) into backpacking, what she learned about weight, gear, solo hiking, and bear hangs, and how her view of thru-hiking shifted after 14-hour days of nothing but walking, couscous, and waterfalls. This is an honest, hilarious, and pretty relatable first-time thru-hiker story—and maybe even a cautionary tale.Brought to you by:

By Patreon request, thanks Chris. Today we get into a little review of the world of whiskey. From what it is, to How to get it on the shelf. Hope you enjoy.Badmotivatorbarrels.com/shop/?aff=3https://www.instagram.com/zsmithwhiskeyandmixology?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=MWZ4dGp2MzlucjVvdw==Patreon.com/the_whiskeyshamanA crash course on whiskeyWhat is whiskey?Whiskey is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grains like barley, corn, rye, and wheat, aged in wooden casks. The specific type of grain, how it's prepared, and the distillation and aging processes all influence the final taste and character of the whiskey. Main types of whiskeyScotch: Made in Scotland, primarily from malted barley, aged for a minimum of three years in oak casks, and often has a smoky flavor from peat.Bourbon: Made in the United States, predominantly from corn (at least 51%), and aged in new charred oak barrels, resulting in sweet caramel and vanilla notes.Irish Whiskey: Typically triple distilled for a smoother taste, using malted and unmalted barley, and matured for a minimum of three years.Rye Whiskey: Characterized by its spicy and fruity notes, made with at least 51% rye grain.Canadian Whisky: Aged for a minimum of three years, often lighter and smoother due to the use of column stills.Japanese Whisky: Generally smooth and refined, often double distilled, with less smoky or peaty flavor and subtle fruit, floral, and honey notes.Tennessee Whiskey: Similar to bourbon, but undergoes a charcoal mellowing process before aging, resulting in a sweet and mellow flavor. Key stages in whiskey productionMashing: Grains are mixed with hot water, converting starches into sugars.Fermentation: Yeast is added to the mash, converting sugars into alcohol.Distillation: The fermented liquid is heated in a still, and alcohol vaporizes, separating it from water and impurities.Aging: The spirit is matured in wooden barrels, absorbing flavors and colors from the wood.Bottling: The whiskey is filtered, diluted (if needed), and bottled for consumption. How to taste whiskeyObserve: Examine the color and viscosity ("legs") in the glass.Nose: Gently smell the whiskey, allowing aromas to unfold without overwhelming your senses.Sip: Take small sips, letting the whiskey coat your tongue and noting the flavors and mouthfeel.Finish: Pay attention to the lingering flavors after swallowing.Experiment: Try adding a few drops of water to open up flavors and aromas. Enjoying whiskeyWhiskey can be enjoyed in various ways:Neat: Served without any additions, allowing you to appreciate its pure flavor. On the Rocks: Served over ice, which chills and dilutes the whiskey. With a few drops of water: Can help open up the flavor profile and reduce the intensity. In cocktails: A versatile spirit used in classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned, Manhattan, and Mint Julep. No matter how you choose to enjoy it, taking your time and savoring the experience is the most important part of exploring the world of whiskey.
This episode is for the writer who wants to better understand the publishing industry.Pop culture has sold us a very shiny, very curated picture of the publishing industry—New York skyscrapers, champagne book launches, and the lucky author who got picked from the slush pile. But here's the truth: publishing is an industry, and when you understand it for what it really is, you get to take back control over your own career as a memoir author. Today, I want to give you a crash course in how the publishing industry has evolved—and what that means for authors right now. The more informed you are as an author, the more power you have over your career, and my intention for this episode is for you to see that you actually do have all the control over your trajectory and career as a memoir author. One of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded struck Russia, triggering tsunami waves that reached Japan, Hawaii, and the US West Coast. Wednesday's earthquake occurred along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” a series of seismic faults surrounding the Pacific Ocean, where most of the world's earthquakes take place. This significant tremor may have been caused by a planetary realignment, an attempt to correct the wobble and the magnetic glitch we experienced earlier this month. Another is expected on August 5th. The Earth again reminds us that we live on a violent planet as Mother Nature shows her fury from time to time.
