Perinatal mental health is often a misunderstood landscape shaped by stigma, cultural expectations, and invisible struggles that touch entire families. In this replay episode, Dr. Rebecca Dekker sits down with Dr. Kat Kaeni, perinatal mental health certified psychologist, author of The Pregnancy Workbook, and host of the Mom & Mind podcast, to break the silence around postpartum anxiety, depression, OCD, and psychosis. Drawing on her professional expertise and personal experience, Dr. Kat reveals why shame and isolation are so common, how symptoms really show up for new parents, and what makes perinatal mental health distinct from other forms of mental illness. They discuss the myths that keep parents suffering in silence, the real impact of mental health on babies and families, and how therapy and support groups, including free resources from Postpartum Support International, can empower families on the path to healing. Content Warning: This episode includes discussions of perinatal mental health disorders, including postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, and psychosis. Sensitive topics such as intrusive thoughts, stigma, feelings of guilt and shame, and the potential for harm to self or others are addressed. Listener discretion is advised, and we encourage anyone who may be affected by these topics to reach out for support through Postpartum Support International or a trusted healthcare provider. My guest today is a Jamaican game developer and studio founder. Based in Kingston, he is the founder of Spritewrench Studios, a narrative-focused micro studio he built after realising, in his final year at university, that he did not need to leave Jamaica or join a hundred-person team to make games of his own.Inspired by that possibility, he began creating small projects, taking part in game jams, and steadily turning Spritewrench from a name into a company. His work is shaped by a commitment to cultural representation that reaches beyond cliché, and by a wider effort to grow the local scene through the Jamaica Game Developer Society, where he has worked to connect creators and open up pathways into the industry. Now, with Duppy Detective Tashia, a point-and-click mystery rooted in Caribbean folklore, he is bringing that vision to a wider audience.Glen Henry & Spritewrench StudiosSpritewrench Studios – official websiteSpritewrench – itch.io (all games)Glen Henry – Instagram (@spritewrench)Duppy Detective TashiaDuppy Detective Tashia – SteamDuppy Detective Tashia – itch.ioJamaica Game Developer SocietyJamaica Game Developer Society – official siteJGDS – YouTube channel (Crash Course series)Glen's Perfect ConsoleThe Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker – WikipediaViewtiful Joe (GameCube, 2003) – WikipediaSpelunky Classic – free download (Derek Yu's site)Spelunky Classic – WikipediaHades – official siteHades – SteamHollow Knight: Silksong – official siteAlso mentionedBastion – Supergiant GamesTransistor – Supergiant GamesIndie Game: The Movie – official siteBlack Voices in Gaming – community DiscordRami Ismail – game developer and advocateChase Bethea – composer (Duppy Detective Tashia)Bubblexity – BChaotic (Jamaican student dev team, Steam)TIGSource – indie game development forumsGlobal Game JamNext week's guestSoren Johnson – designer of Civilization IVOld World – Mohawk Games (Steam)Simon's bookTrial of the Space Invaders – pre-order (Bookshop.org UK)Trial of the Space Invaders – pre-order (Amazon UK)Support the showMy Perfect Console – episode archiveSupport My Perfect Console on PatreonBecome a My Perfect Console supporter and receive a range of benefits at www.patreon.com/myperfectconsoleTake the Acast listener survey to help shape the show: My Perfect Console with Simon Parkin Survey 2025 Hosted on Acast. This week, Brian talks with author and theologian Ross McCullough about his recent book, The Body of This Death. Hailed by Christianity Today as “an instant classic of Christian spiritual writing,” the book wraps deep theological and philosophical themes in a sci-fi mystery told through the letters of an archbishop awaiting execution. Careful to avoid major spoilers, Brian and Ross dive into the story's reflections on the importance of physical presence, human connection, and resisting digital escapism. The Body of This Death: https://bookstore.wordonfire.org/products/letters-from-the-last-archbishop-of-lancaster?srsltid=AfmBOoqXR2C50LglSQlVRnHw0kuUe-2GtTNtEsn_3CCgI8m0Vu-hRObDChristianity Today article: https://www.christianitytoday.com/2026/02/screwtape-for-our-times-body-of-this-death-review/More about Ross: https://www.georgefox.edu/honors-program/faculty-pages/ross-mccullough.htmlDr. Brian Doak is an Old Testament scholar and professor: https://www.georgefox.edu/academics/undergrad/departments/religion/faculty/doak.htmlIf you enjoy listening to the George Fox Talks podcast and would like to watch, too, check out our channel on YouTube! This episode I am reading from JM DeBord's book 'The Science of the Paranormal: The Truth Behind Telepathy, ESP, Reincarnation, and More Mysterious Phenomena'. Discover the truth behind ESP, paranormal powers, and psychic abilities—the perfect gift for curious minds and bold scientists alike. Some paranormal phenomena and powers of the mind are real, but mainstream science dismisses it all as fantasy. The Science of the Paranormal looks toward the overwhelming evidence that something weird and wild lies behind our everyday reality. Credible witnesses have seen paranormal activity with their own eyes. Scientists have studied it in their labs. And everyday we see depictions of it in popular media like Stranger Things and X-Men. Separate fact from fiction in this book and get answers to questions like: Can objects be moved with psychokinesis? Is the future foreseeable? Can we communicate telepathically? What does science say about ESP? Where is the evidence for reincarnation and spirits? He's known for pushing back on the trend of copying celebrity faces instead of building beauty routines around your own anatomy. He joins host Amy Sherman for a warm, honest conversation about what works. He shares the exact wellness and beauty hacks he uses himself, including what sits next to his toothbrush every morning. He explains why microneedling only works if you layer the right ingredients underneath it, what exosomes do, and why some popular under-eye treatments deliver far less than the marketing suggests. For anyone curious about surgery down the line, he explains the real difference between a mini facelift and a true deep plane facelift, why some surgeons perform the procedure on patients in their thirties, and why chasing natural facelift results too early may not deliver the outcome you expect. Press play for the skincare tips worth stealing long before you consider anything more invasive.Episode Breakdown:00:00 Meet Dr. Ruslan Zhuravsky and His Natural Approach02:12 Defining Aging Well Beyond Quick Fixes and Trends03:34 The Three Pillars of Skin Laxity and Volume07:05 Microneedling, PRP, and Exosomes Explained14:12 A Crash Course in Lasers and Their Targets19:47 Why Energy Devices Can't Fix Sagging Skin23:33 The Deep Plane Facelift Explained and Who Qualifies29:50 Mini Facelifts, Fillers, Sculptra, and Fat Transfer Compared39:49 Liquid Rhinoplasty, Tip Lifts, and Nose Filler Risks51:23 Skincare Brands He Trusts and His Wellness HacksConnect with Dr. Ruslan Zhuravsky:Follow Dr. Ruslan on InstagramVisit the Z Face Plastic Surgery websiteFor More on this Episode: Read the full show notes here

We have weeks left with her.I wanted to share this episode as a resource, whether you're supporting a partner through illness, grief, or any traumatic event, or you're the one going through it and need the words to ask for what you actually need.Four months into this crash course, here's what I'm covering:Why "let me know if you need anything" is one of the worst things you can say, and what to do insteadHow to stop projecting your own needs onto your grieving partnerWhy honouring someone's nervous system matters more than trying to fix how they're copingHow to support your loved one without abandoning yourself in the processIf you've got your own wisdom on grief, your masters, your PhD in it, send it my way. Gandalf the wizard as an Old Testament prophet? Hobbits as intercessory priests? Aragorn as a messianic king? Dr. Philip Ryken, president of Wheaton College, joins Brian in the studio to uncover the rich Gospel themes in J.R.R. Tolkien's iconic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings. While Tolkien famously insisted his work was not an allegory, Dr. Ryken explains how the author's faith and theological imagination imbued the text with profoundly Christian motifs—most significantly, “the threefold office of Christ” depicted through several of the story's central characters.Check out Dr. Ryken's book, The Messiah Comes to Middle-Earth: Images of Christ's Threefold Office in The Lord of the Rings:https://www.ivpress.com/the-messiah-comes-to-middle-earth-ebook?srsltid=AfmBOoqIanzXkiPyRO2X4rIxKb0kBGrYOE-fWxYlRUj0R3WN1_0knL92Dr. Ryken has published more than 50 books and he serves as president of Wheaton College: https://www.wheaton.edu/about-wheaton/leadership/president-rykenDr. Brian Doak is an Old Testament scholar and professor: https://www.georgefox.edu/academics/undergrad/departments/religion/faculty/doak.htmlIf you enjoy listening to the George Fox Talks podcast and would like to watch, too, check out our channel on YouTube! In part four of their ongoing series on the Great Recession, the Shuffle Bois turn to a topic near and dear to their hearts, the automotive bailouts of 2008/9. When cheap and easy credit dried up due to the sub-prime mortgage crisis and the dominos of financialization began to fall, the three struggling American automotive companies were hit particularly hard. In this episode, the shuffle bois go through the history of the automotive industry, laying out both its long term chronic and short term acute issues, before tracing the Obama administration's response. It's a sprawling episode covering labour relations, corporate mismanagement, globalization, the place of the car in American identity, financialization and private equity, and environmentalismBibliography:Dan Georgakas and Marvin Surkin, Detroit: I do mind dying.
