The Munich stop of CEIBS 3rd Europe Forum 2017 focused on the topic Belt and Road Initiative: How Germany Benefits from China's Economic Growth. With the global economy in a slow recovery phase, regional cooperation has become a driver of economic growth. In response to economic globalization, China introduced its Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to boost the prosperity of China and participating countries by focusing on economic cooperation through cross-border direct investment. During the forum, experts shared their perspective on the characteristics and trends of China's outbound investment in light of the Belt and Road Initiative. Germany has long been a favoured destination for Chinese investors due to its investment climate and the complementary economic advantages between the two countries. Given this solid foundation for cooperation, how will China and Germany move forward on investments to continue further developing industrial integration and complementarities? Will the synergy between China's “Internet Plus” initiative and Germany's “Industry 4.0” strategy create new opportunities for cooperation? CEIBS and CHKD invited top-level officials and experts from China and Germany, as well as a delegation of Chinese entrepreneurs and investors for this China-Germany Dialogue. The forum combined discussions centred on investment with case studies, providing insights into new business models and prospects for China-Germany cooperation as well as opportunities for interaction with enterprises from the two countries. Keynote speakers included Jiang Jianqing, Chairman of the vitally important Sino-CEE Fund and former Chairman of ICBC; Romano Prodi, the former Prime Minister of Italy and former President of the European Commission; and CEIBS Vice President and Dean Prof. Ding Yuan.
CEIBS’ First China-CEE Development Forum looked at Exploring Innovative Approaches to Win-Win Cooperation between China & CEE in Light of the Belt and Road Initiative. China regards Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), a potential driver of European economic growth, as a significant partner and destination for investment. Under the Belt and Road Initiative and 16+1 cooperation framework, both sides will step up their cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, investment, infrastructure construction, finance, energy, tourism, education, agriculture, cultural exchange and regional partnerships in order to facilitate mutually beneficial exchanges and innovation outcomes. In today’s globalized world, China-CEE cooperation must move beyond traditional industries like energy and infrastructure toward areas critical to people’s well-being. Therefore it is imperative for China and CEE to find answers to the following questions: What lessons can the bellwethers in emerging sectors learn from others’ successes in order to grasp strategic opportunities from the Belt and Road Initiative? How will the countries along the Belt and Road align the strategies for their dominant industries with the Belt and Road Initiative in order to maximize the advantages and interests of both sides? How can China and CEE leverage their industrial differences to develop an innovative and sustainable cooperation framework that achieves win-win results? The event centred on the theme "China-CEE Cooperation for Mutual Benefit and Win-Win Results" and included discussions on topics such as Infrastructure Construction, New energy, and E-commerce. Senior leaders in political, business and economic circles from both China and CEE shared their insights on new approaches to China-CEE cooperation aimed at achieving mutual prosperity. Speakers included: China’s Ambassador to Poland H.E. Xu Jian, Poland’s Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Development Paweł Chorąży, Chairman of the SINO-CEE Fund and former Chairman of ICBC Prof. Jiang Jianqing, and former Polish Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance Prof. Grzegorz W. Kołodko The conference was part of CEIBS 3rd Europe Forum 2017 series of events.
