In today's episode of The LoCo Experience, I welcomed Nate Hines back into the studio for his second appearance - with the agreement that he gets to interview me for the second half of the show! Nate was our final guest of Season 4, (Episode 200) - and in 2025 he executed the strategy he shared in our previous conversation - acquiring and integrating three water engineering firms! Hines Inc. is the leading voice in the #waterfirst movement, which encourages developers and property owners to consider water first when designing anything from a residential landscape plan to a city park to a major subdivision. This can save 30% or more on install, 30% or more on maintenance, and increase the longevity of systems through professional management. We zoomed in on Nate's skills-building journey, which included bruising lessons from a failed merger, and the support and encouragement of an advisory board along the way. For the second half of the show, Nate interviewed your host, Curt Bear. We discussed the philosophies that drive our policies at LoCo Think Tank, my why in becoming a small-L libertarian, and we closed with a selection of LoCo Experiences from yours truly - specifically, a quick tour of the five times I've nearly killed myself and my wife in raging rivers, on mountain passes, or on a motorcycle! - so please tune in and enjoy my conversation with Nate Hines. On this Triple Feature we're looking at three comic-adjacent films—projects either adapted from graphic novels or conceived in that visual language: Oblivion, Snowpiercer, and The Fountain—each exploring memory, identity, and survival inside closed systems.Oblivion, directed by Joseph Kosinski and based on his unpublished graphic novel, follows Jack Harper, a drone repair technician stationed on a post-apocalyptic Earth after a war with alien “Scavs.” As he services automated defense machines from a sleek sky tower, he begins recovering fragmented memories that contradict the official narrative. A crash survivor and a band of human rebels force him to confront the truth: he's a clone sustaining an AI-controlled occupation.Snowpiercer, directed by Bong Joon-ho and adapted from the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige, is set aboard a perpetually moving train carrying the last survivors of a climate catastrophe. The rigid class hierarchy places the poor in the tail and elites in the front. Curtis leads a violent revolt through each car, exposing the brutal mechanics of engineered inequality. The Fountain, directed by Darren Aronofsky, interweaves three timelines—16th-century conquistador, modern scientist, and far-future space traveler—linked by a man's obsession with conquering death and saving the woman he loves. The film blends mysticism and science fiction into a meditation on mortality and acceptance.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

This week's Beesotted Pride of West London podcast sees Billy TheBee Grant looking ahead to Brentford's FA Cup trip to Macclesfield - with memories still lingering of their recent giant-killing shock against Crystal Palace. The question hanging in the air - could the Bees be next?Billy spoke to Macclesfield fan Ellie Thomason to get the full lowdown on the Silkmen and what Brentford fans should expect from this cup tie.Elle talked us through the emotional backdrop of the club. She reflected on the collapse of Macclesfield Town in 2020 and how painful that period was for supporters, referencing the chaotic final months which included the Sol Campbell era. For many fans, losing their club overnight left lasting scars. She explained how the rebirth as Macclesfield FC has brought huge pride back to the town. While older supporters haven't forgotten what happened, the phoenix club has created a renewed sense of connection between fans and ownership, with a strong community feel around matchdays and a club that feels more grounded and unified. On the pitch, Elle highlighted Macclesfield's strong league form and the confidence running through the side. She picked out key players Brentford fans should keep an eye on and spoke about their FA Cup run so far, which has built real belief around the place. When the draw paired them with the Bees, Elle admitted it was excitement first and foremost - a big occasion, a big gate and a chance to test themselves against Premier League opposition. We also discussed the manager John Rooney - Wayne Rooney's brother — and the added intrigue that brings. Elle gave insight into how the team sets up, what kind of game Brentford can expect tactically and atmospherically, plus where travelling Bees fans can grab a drink before kick-off including The Jolly Sailor, The Fountain and Red Willow Hosted on Acast. With leverage unwinding and basis trades breaking, long-time bitcoin holders are distributing to institutional buyers who, by 13F data, are mostly underwater. The mood across digital assets is bleak. Against that backdrop, Nic Carter of Castle Island Ventures argues that key Bitcoin narratives have quietly failed—and warns that developers' inaction on quantum risk could open the door to institutional control. If devs don't act, Carter says ETF giants like BlackRock will. Did you know that April 15 marks Eastgate's 31st birthday? Last year at a staff meeting, we talked about how amazed we were that our little church community had reached 30 years. Now here we are, a year later, celebrating 31.Instead of throwing a big party, we realized we would rather invest our energy into the people and ministries that make this community what it is.Over the past year, we launched a podcast to share more about who we are and to talk about things we do not always have time for on a Sunday morning. We created our first ever VBS program from scratch and served over 30 children. We began weekly financial support for Pastor Christian and the Spanish speaking ministry he leads. We also opened a new Eastgate location in the Fountain and Marianna area called Eastgate North, led by Julie Gjendem and her husband Trond. We also continued many of the quiet, faithful practices that shape who we are. Our weekly donations to the Panama City Rescue Mission continued. Our meal train ministry kept bringing meals to families welcoming babies or walking through illness. Men's gatherings, women's gatherings, young adult meetings, and small groups all carried on. We trained and hired our teens to help care for children during special events, inviting them into responsibility and service. I have been part of this community for all 31 years, and I am continually in awe of what God has done through this imperfect, generous group of people. That brings us to this Sunday's scripture. Jesus will be teaching about what to do when people in a community face internal struggles. The truth is that a healthy community is made up of people, and wherever there are people, there will be conflict. This Sunday we will read Matthew 18:15 to 35. The first part of the teaching helps us see that conflict is not only normal, but that there are wise and loving ways to address it. How might learning to handle conflict well actually strengthen a community rather than weaken it?We invite you to join us this Sunday at 10:00 AM as we study this scripture together and reflect on what it means to cultivate community.Click here for a pdf of the teaching slideshow.

Today's episode features Kris Buchanan, Founder of Phase Three Product Development and Co-Founder and CEO of RedDrop Dx. RedDrop Dx has developed an FDA-approved, pain-free blood collection device that is used at home! Drawing on years of experience designing medical instrumentation and microfluidic systems, he and his partners set out to solve the “blood acquisition” problem as a standalone, scalable solution rather than a one-off component tied to a single test.RedDrop offers a simple at-home kit that uses heat to bring capillary blood close to the skin's surface, followed by a quick, virtually painless micro-needle activation that creates tiny openings and applies gentle vacuum to collect blood. The process avoids nerve stimulation, reduces contamination, and produces a consistent, lab-ready sample. RedDrop is FDA-cleared and sold business-to-business, primarily to diagnostic companies, healthcare providers, and testing services. Kris is one of those sneaky entrepreneurs that fly under the radar, employing ~25 leading edge engineers at Phase Three Product Development - which his son Will is now managing - and changing the world of data collection (via blood) in the medical space. You'll be sure to hear more about him and RedDrop Dx in the years ahead, but start here and please enjoy my conversation with Kris Buchanan. What's the biggest threat to Bitcoin? Is it Quantum? Developers? BIP110? Governments? Or something else entirely… In this episode, I sit down with Bitcoin OG Jimmy Song for a nuanced conversation about the state of Bitcoin development and governance. We dive into his 2011 origin story, unpack the store of value vs medium of exchange debate, and explore why he believes ossification is actually better for Bitcoin than constant protocol changes. Jimmy pulls no punches on Taproot's broken promises, explaining why the UX realities never materialized despite developer optimism. We dig deep into the BIP 110 soft fork controversy, the governance concerns around Bitcoin Core, and why he thinks young developers need more humility when dismissing community feedback. This is an honest look at protocol development, decision-making processes, and the real threats facing Bitcoin's future from someone who's been in the trenches for 15 years. This week Sam takes on another adventure quest with the 2025 movie Fountain of Youth. Join Luke (John Krasinski) as he gallivants around town stealing art with zero repercussions. After his latest art theft, he goes to London to ruin his sister Charlotte's (Natalie Portman) life by stealing from the museum she curates and getting her fired. You'd think John Krasinski could pull off making that charming, but you'd be wrong. None of that matters because now that she's been fired, Charlotte can join in on his latest scheme! What scheme is that? Why, it's leading a billionaire-backed expedition to locate the the Fountain of Youth (which neither fountains nor youths, but that's for another time) to cure the benefactor's liver cancer. Why you ask? Fame and glory. Definitely not to follow in their father's Indiana Jones footsteps regardless of what the movie tells you. This, of course, requires stealing a bunch of Renaissance art because six artists hid clues in their paintings for some unfathomable reason, though not really in their paintings, more just kinda on them. This leads our heroes to some of the lamest puzzle solving this side of The DaVinci Code which Sam complains about. A lot. This has made them a target for Interpol and Charlotte has dragged her eleven-year-old son on the lamb with her in a bid to become the world's worst mother. There's also some psychic protector of the Fountain hot on their trail, though she proves remarkably inept. None of this can prepare our hosts for the end of this movie which is so incomprehensible it completely breaks their brains. This is in no way aided by a brief exposition cameo by Stanley Tucci, and in fact only muddies things further. So join us on a rip-roaring adventure that leaves Sam begging Danielle to watch the movie herself to see if she can figure it out. We're sure it makes sense to someone, just not us.

Hello Beautiful, I'm so grateful you're here with me.
In the rural reaches of Florida's Panhandle, where longleaf pines line quiet roads and neighbors know each other by the sound of their engines, a sexual battery case in the unincorporated community of Fountain exposed how far the state's legal system will go to punish crimes against children. This episode examines the case and the legal architecture behind it.VICTIM PROFILE: The victim was a minor between the ages of twelve and seventeen living in Bay County, Florida. Her identity is protected under state law. What the record shows is that her willingness to come forward and testify at trial formed the foundation of the prosecution's case. Without her testimony, the legal system would have had nothing to act upon. Her courage carried a weight that no verdict can fully acknowledge.THE CRIME: In 2020, allegations surfaced that Brandon Paul Janssen had committed sexual battery against the victim in Fountain, a small unincorporated community in Bay County. The Bay County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation in coordination with the Gulf Coast Children's Advocacy Center, which provided forensic interview support for the minor. During questioning, Janssen confessed to the acts. Prosecutors charged him with two counts of sexual battery on a minor under Florida Statute 794.011(4)(b), each carrying the potential for life imprisonment.THE INVESTIGATION: The Bay County Sheriff's Office led the case with the Gulf Coast Children's Advocacy Center handling victim support and forensic interviews. Janssen's confession became a focal point at trial, with his defense challenging its admissibility on grounds of voluntariness and Miranda compliance. Prosecutor Jeff Moore presented six witnesses before Bay County Circuit Court Judge Timothy Register. The defense also raised hearsay objections to certain testimony. After roughly one hour of deliberation, the jury returned guilty verdicts on both counts.CURRENT STATUS: On November 13, 2023, Janssen received two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole. He was designated a sexual predator under Florida law, ensuring lifetime registration and supervision. He appealed to the First District Court of Appeal, which affirmed the convictions and sentences on August 27, 2025, under docket number 1D2023-3176. As of early 2026, Janssen remains incarcerated at Century Correctional Institution.Support Obscura: https://www.patreon.com/obscuracrimepodcast/Our Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out Chime: https://chime.com/OBSCURA* Check out Mood and use my code OBSCURA for a great deal: https://mood.com* Check out Quince: https://quince.com/OBSCURA* Check out TruDiagnostic and use my code OBSCURA20 for a great deal: https://www.trudiagnostic.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/obscura-a-true-crime-podcast/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
