Darüber spricht Podcast-Host Felix Gebhardt mit Filmautor Ulf Eberle in ARD Crime Time. "Warum starb Niklas P.? Episode 26 of On The Record is the first fully international edition—Brian Wise filing from Melbourne, Michael Mackenzie beaming in from the ancient fortified town of Monemvasia, deep inside the Peloponnese. The contrast isn't just geographic: Wise is braving Melbourne winter; Mackenzie is swimming in warm salt water off Byzantine fortress walls. The hate is, as he cheerfully acknowledges, entirely deserved. Jason discusses the importance of investment psychology and mathematical analysis when managing real estate portfolios. He highlights recent updates to Property Tracker, a complimentary software tool designed to help users benchmark their assets against the S&P 500 and monitor leveraged returns. Through a sample analysis of a property in Indianapolis, he demonstrates how inflation-induced debt destruction and tax strategies like cost segregation can significantly enhance profitability. He argues strongly against paying off mortgages entirely, explaining that maintaining leverage typically lowers risk while increasing overall returns. Jason concludes by encouraging investors to utilize professional consultations and educational masterclasses to optimize their portfolios based on specific financial goals. Bernadette Marciniak is a video producer who works specifically with speakers and event organisers, giving her a rare dual perspective on what actually gets speakers booked. She has captured footage at live events, produced demo reels for speakers at various stages of their careers, and uses speaking engagements herself as a visibility lever for her business. What you'll take away from this episode:Why most demo reels function as sizzle reels and what the difference actually costs youWhat event organisers are specifically looking for when they watch your videoThe "through line" principle: how to build a reel that shows your message, not just your mic dropsWhether a lower-quality demo is better than no demo at allHow to start capturing footage when you have no stage access and no budgetWhen to bring testimonials into your video and when to leave them outWhat a practical media library looks like and why YouTube is part of your booking strategyThe AI tools that could help polish your final cut without compromising authenticityConnect with Bernadette Marciniak:Website: solhausmedia.com/speakers (Solhaus spelled S-O-L-H-A-U-S) LinkedIn: Bernadette Marciniak Instagram: Bernadette MarciniakChapters:00:00 Demo Reel Myth Busting00:58 Meet Bernadette Marciniak02:13 Her Speaking Origin Story05:37 What A Demo Reel Does08:58 Demo Versus Sizzle Reel11:57 Good Enough To Share17:08 Capturing Footage Right20:28 Editing For A Through Line25:29 No Stage No Problem31:44 Watch Yourself Improve33:54 AI In Demo Videos38:00 Budget And Hiring Pros40:07 Long Form Clips On YouTube44:17 Wrap Up And Where To Connect47:25 Final Takeaways And Next EpisodeFAQ SECTIONFrequently Asked QuestionsWhat should a speaker demo reel include to get booked by event organizers?According to video producer Bernadette Marciniak and speaking coach John Ball on the Professional Speaking podcast, a speaker demo reel should demonstrate two things above all: your presence on stage and the through line of your message. Marciniak distinguishes between a sizzle reel, which showcases mic drops and highlights, and a demo reel built for bookers, which shows what an audience is going to get from you. Event organisers are not looking for cinematic production or audience testimonials; they are looking for evidence that you can deliver a coherent message in front of a crowd. The ideal length is two to three minutes, with a clear narrative structure rather than a compilation of unrelated sound bites. Is it better to have a bad demo reel or no demo reel at all?Bernadette Marciniak's position, discussed with John Ball on Professional Speaking, is that having a demo reel is better than not having one, provided you are intentional about how and where you distribute it. Poor lighting or iPhone video does not automatically disqualify a reel if the audio is clear and the speaker's presence comes through. What Marciniak identifies as genuinely undermining is an over-reliance on B-roll and cinematic sweeps that give the viewer no sense of what the speaker actually says or how they engage with an audience. The goal is always to improve the footage over time, not to wait for perfect conditions before starting. How can a speaker start building a demo reel with no stage experience?John Ball and Bernadette Marciniak discuss several practical entry points on this episode of Professional Speaking. Speakers can hire a local videographer for a small room presentation, gather a group of peers who each speak for five minutes to a live audience, or capture footage from workshops, retreats and local events. Podcast interviews are also flagged as legitimate speaking engagements that generate video evidence of a speaker's communication style. Marciniak recommends building a media library consistently over time rather than waiting for a single high-production opportunity, and suggests partnering with a videographer across multiple events so the footage looks cohesive. What is the difference between a speaker sizzle reel and a demo reel?John Ball explains on Professional Speaking that a sizzle reel is designed for public awareness, while a demo reel is designed for bookers. A sizzle reel is a highlights compilation intended to build brand visibility and is appropriate for a speaker's website or social channels. A demo reel, by contrast, is a two-to-three-minute video built around a through line: a coherent message that reflects what an audience will experience if they hire the speaker. Bernadette Marciniak adds that both serve a purpose, but speakers who want to land more paid engagements need the demo version, not just the cinematic highlight package.Should speakers use AI tools when creating a demo reel?Bernadette Marciniak and John Ball address this on Professional Speaking with a clear distinction between useful and damaging AI applications. Marciniak cautions against using AI-generated video to simulate speaking experience a speaker does not have, arguing that misrepresentation is a fast route to damaging a professional reputation. However, both acknowledge that AI tools can legitimately assist with audio clean-up, removing isolated errors, adding text overlays, and smoothing transitions between segments. The principle Marciniak applies is that any AI enhancement should serve authenticity, not replace it.How should speakers use YouTube as part of their booking strategy?Bernadette Marciniak recommends using YouTube as a media library rather than a public-facing channel, a point developed with John Ball on Professional Speaking. Full keynote recordings and longer clips of speaking engagements can be hosted on YouTube as unlisted videos and sent directly to event organisers who want to see more than a two-minute demo reel. Marciniak notes that bookers will often skip through a full recording to check how a speaker opens, handles transitions, and interacts with an audience, making the longer format valuable even if it is never shared publicly. A YouTube playlist of speaking engagements also provides an organised reference point that can be linked from a speaker's website or proposals.Visit https://strategic-speaker.scoreapp.com to take the 2-minute Strategic Speaking Business Audit and find out what's blocking you from getting more bookings, re-bookings, referrals and bigger fees. Reproduced from @garlandn with thanks. This week I spoke with Garland Nixon about my recent experience inside a Kenyan police cell. Why were we in Nairobi joining an anti-imperialist conference and then a street protest against the France-Africa summit in the first place? What is France's interest in Kenya, and what is the Kenyan government's role in Nato and in the African front of WW3? And what can three days and nights in police cells teach us about the nature of the Kenyan state and its relationship to its own people? What do the conditions and processes we experienced there reveal about the nature of neocolonial rule in Africa? One other notable aspect of our incarceration was that while it was major news in Kenya and some other parts of the world, the British media, British political establishment AND the British 'left' (antiwar movement, trade union movement, 'independent' media, various 'communist' and 'socialist' parties) all maintained a strict silence over the event. No one here seemed remotely interested in highlighting the unlawful locking up of a British citizen and anti-imperialist activist in a nation that is known to be a close 'ally' (proxy) of Britain. Meanwhile, the political nature of our detention was made very clear to us, since the Kenyan state had to break its own constitution and the police had to override all their own procedures to keep us locked up for so long without bringing us to court. It was made clear that the orders came from 'on high', but HOW high? Were those giving the orders inside or OUTSIDE the country? The fight for freedom and sovereignty in Kenya and Africa continue, and our comrades in the CPM Kenya are building a broad movement that aims to carry through the national-democratic revolution that was denied the people in 1963. Their activities and the growing anger of the impoverished masses has clearly put fear into the ruling comprador elite and their imperialist paymasters.

It's an all new That Real Blind Tech Show super cool Brian demo, as Brian noticed a few things going on on the Innosearch and a long over due accessibility web improvement to amazon on the Mac. Brian starts off discussing the newly implemented under $25 fees that are appearing on Innosearch. He walks you through a demo of searching for Men's Boxers, adding to the cart, and then the new under $25 handling fee Innosearch has implemented. Next he demos the bizarre behavior on Innosearch after you decide to look for a second product. These demos are done on the Mac using Safari. You may experience different behavior on the PC or in Chrome or other browsers on the Mac. Brian then goes over to Amazon to demo the very positive and long over due heading and screen reader navigation improvements in safari on the Mac. We now have keyboard shortcuts on the Mac that actually work in most places. Brian walks you through navigating search results in Amazon which still leave much to be desired, and then he shows you how searching directly for a product in Google might get you to the product page directly faster. Brian attempts to use the keyboard shortcut built in to Amazon to get a product description, and when it fails to work, he then demos the fantastic new heading structure on amazon.com. He then demos how quick and simple it is to add a product to your cart with the keyboard shortcut. Detailed Summary:SpaceX Starship Launch DiscussionThe group discussed SpaceX's recent Starship launch, which John described as a partial success with significant technical challenges including an engine outage that caused the booster to deviate from its course. David praised the high-quality camera work and photography during the launch, while Dr. Sherry noted that SpaceX itself considered the mission a success and emphasized their approach of learning from mistakes. The team also explained the satellite ejection mechanism used in the launch, with Charles and Robert providing details about how the satellites were deployed from the rocket. The group discussed SpaceX's Starship Flight 12 (IFT-12), with participants evaluating its significance for future Artemis missions. Bob explained that while the flight was important for testing new engines and systems, it wasn't critical for SpaceX's overall success, particularly given their upcoming IPO and existing Starlink revenue. The discussion highlighted the technical challenges involved in the flight, including new Raptor 3 engines and a rebuilt launch pad, with participants agreeing that the flight achieved its main objectives of reaching orbit and conducting necessary tests. The Wisdom Team discussed the recent Starship test flight, comparing it to SLS development and emphasizing that the technologies are not comparable due to different approaches and goals. David defended SpaceX's methodology of learning from failures, while Ajay highlighted specific technical issues with the first stage during the test. The discussion included observations about engine problems and a puncture in the tile, with participants noting that this is part of the development process for new technology. The group discussed the recent SpaceX Starship test flight, with Dr. Ajay clarifying that one engine blew up before separation, causing other engines to shut down due to fuel sloshing. Phil expressed concerns about the program's timeline, arguing that SpaceX is not on track to meet the goal of reaching the moon within a couple of years, while Robert countered that abandoning the current approach would only cause further delays. The discussion concluded with Dallas defending the mission's success in achieving its suborbital trajectory goals, though Phil maintained that the program has not yet proven its ability to deliver the required 100 tons of payload to orbit. The team discussed SpaceX's satellite deployment program, with Marshall clarifying that dummy satellites weighed about 2 tons each but Phil found conflicting information suggesting 17 tons total for 22 satellites. The discussion then shifted to refueling capabilities, where Doug shared insights from a leading researcher who estimated a 50% chance of success on the first attempt and near 100% on the second attempt for propellant docking and transfer. The conversation concluded with Ajay noting that while Progress has done fuel transfer with storable fuel, cryogenic fuel transfer remains untested in orbit, though SpaceX had previously demonstrated cryogenic propellant transfer during IFT-10.The group discussed SpaceX's development of in-orbit refueling capabilities, with Dallas sharing details about their 2008 demonstration using vapor-cooled skins and a crawl cooler from Criari. The discussion focused on comparing SpaceX's progress with Blue Origin's approach, with Robert noting that while SpaceX has outlined plans for a several-week refueling mission this year involving two Starship launches, Blue Origin's development pace remains slower. The conversation concluded with debate about propellant requirements for lunar missions, with Dallas explaining that the HLS mission would need approximately 40 tons of propellant for the Gateway and lunar lander in the lunar vicinity.Phil suggested that NASA should design the optimal lunar lander and then assign contracts to commercial companies like Boeing or SpaceX for manufacturing, while also working to reduce the cost of SLS rockets through mass production. Robert clarified that NASA's investment in SpaceX's Starship program is minimal compared to SpaceX's private funding, which includes $12 billion raised for Starlink and an expected $75 billion from an IPO. The discussion highlighted concerns about Starship's timeline and feasibility, with participants noting that alternative approaches using existing technology like SLS and a modified lander could potentially be faster than Starship development, though still facing significant challenges.Robert discussed the challenges with NASA's rocket development programs, highlighting that despite being 16 years since launch, they have only launched twice and suggesting that competition from multiple companies would be beneficial. Phil argued that NASA should handle advanced projects internally due to their track record of successful first-time launches, while Dallas clarified that NASA did not design the SLS but served as system integrator. David raised concerns about safety risks in human spaceflight programs, citing a former Artemis team engineer's warnings about discontinuity in systems engineering when switching between commercial companies, which Marshall supported by noting that most bugs occur at interfaces between different components or companies. The group discussed software engineering interfaces and their impact on system safety, particularly comparing Apollo and Artemis programs. Marshall and Ajay explained that while multiple companies building different components can create interface challenges, proper system engineering and testing can mitigate these risks. Robert emphasized that Artemis's current issues stem from lack of overall NASA-designed architecture and distributed ownership, suggesting NASA should consolidate components and hire companies to build major components with fewer interfaces. Doug cautioned against attributing 90% of problems to interfaces alone, noting that known issues in NASA's culture contributed to previous shuttle program losses. The discussion focused on comparing NASA's Apollo-style approach with SpaceX's commercial approach for returning to the moon. Doug and Charles argued that the commercial approach using Starship offers better long-term sustainability and permanence on the moon compared to the Apollo-style urgency-driven approach using SLS and Orion. Philip countered that Starship is not necessarily the permanent solution and that a racal departure from rocket technology might be needed for true permanence. The conversation also highlighted that SpaceX's Starship development represents a smaller portion of their overall investment compared to their other projects like Starlink, with Starship serving as a transportation system to support broader capabilities. The group discussed the evolution of chemical rockets and reusability, with Phil and Doug clarifying that full reusability is not a revolutionary change compared to the space shuttle. David challenged critics like Phil and AJ to support the current Artemis program rather than continuously criticize it, asking what constructive role they could play given the program's commitment to Starship and Artemis missions. Ajay expressed support for the Artemis program overall but raised concerns about Starship's size and propellant fraction requirements, suggesting it should be reduced to about one-third its current size for lunar missions. Phil shared insights from his recent presentation at Ascend, noting that NASA engineers lack access to critical technical details about Starship's development, similar to the broader public's understanding of the program. The group discussed concerns about NASA's involvement and insight into SpaceX's Starship program, with Philip expressing concerns that NASA's team lacks sufficient information to properly assess Starship's performance and safety. The discussion revealed that while NASA has embedded engineering teams with SpaceX and extensive visibility into various aspects of development, they don't have complete control over architectural decisions. The conversation ended with John mentioning SpaceX's improvements to the launch site and Raptor 3 engine, and Sherry praising the video footage of Starlink satellites in space. The group discussed SpaceX's achievements and role in the space industry, with participants praising their rideshare and Starlink initiatives while expressing concerns about relying too heavily on Starship for the Artemis program. Phil suggested reassessing NASA's lunar landing strategy by considering alternative solutions like using Falcon Heavy or smaller landers from companies like Dynetics or Blue Origin. The conversation ended with Robert promoting an upcoming Space Show discussion and David reflecting on Memorial Day, thanking veterans for their service and contributions to space exploration.Special thanks to our sponsors:American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Helix Space in Luxembourg, Celestis Memorial Spaceflights, Astrox Corporation, Dr. Haym Benaroya of Rutgers University, The Space Settlement Progress Blog by John Jossy, The Atlantis Project, and Artless EntertainmentWe use Zoom phone numbers for program participation. For real time program participation, email Dr. Space at: drspace@thespaceshow.com for instructions and access. The Space Show is a non-profit 501C3 through its parent, One Giant Leap Foundation, Inc. It's way too common for therapists to feel confused and frustrated with their model. Many counselors feel like their models work for some but feel hopeless with certain clients. Worst of all is when therapists feel like a "rent-a-friend" instead of a catalyst for change. I'm Dr. Jordan Harris, and I help therapists move from "lost" to "confident" by mastering the meta-skills of clinical excellence. My approach isn't about learning another model—it's about knowing when and how to use the tools you already have to create deeper, more transformative emotional encounters. In my trainings, we focus on four key pillars: Motivation: Working with (not against) client resistance. Persuasion: Engaging clients so they show up hopeful and ready. Experiencing: Moving past surface-level talk into deep emotional work. Body Language: Reading non-verbal cues for true clinical attunement.
