It's the end of an era...again. Yes, once again we've reached a milestone here at Just One of the Guys, as with this episode we bid farewell to Ron Marz as the main writer on the book. Ever since he took over in issue number 48, Marz has done a stellar job a making Kyle Rayner, an entirely new character into one of the most interesting heroes in the modern day DC Universe. And with issue 125, Marz says his goodbyes. Is the story a fitting ending to the Ron Marz era on Green Lantern? You'll just have to listen to find out! Plus we're also going to cover Green Lantern 80 Page Giant #1, an "inventory-tastic" issue that tells tales of all of the Green Lanterns of Earth; from Guy to Kyle, Alan to John, Hal and even G'nort, all get their own story in this book. The sad truth is...these aren't really very good. I mean, even the Beau Smith penned one feels shoehorned into being about Guy as a Green Lantern rather than guy as Warrior. Plus the internet meme of #GoAwayBenRaab is introduced as we get a look at stories yet to come. Winick better be a LOT better than this. But to ease me through the pain of this issue, I've got my good friend and Guy Gardner fan, Thomas Deja (co-host of Better in the Dark) along for the ride. So unless you want to have your head crushed by the thighs of a Mitch Byrd female, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Welcome back everyone to Just One of the Guys. It's been a busy week at the JOOTG Recording Studios with the Holiday season and computer problems taking away a lot of my free time, so my notes for the show aren't going to be that clever. If they were ever that way at all. Suffice it to say, we've still got a couple of issues to cover this week, starting with Green Lantern #93, where Green Lantern goes to a Village Halloween parade and teams up with Deadman to track down a killer. Well, not so much teams up as get's his body taken over by. Did I mention the killer hates homosexuals? And he's never even been on Duck Dynasty, so that's really odd. Plus we also have the Green Lantern Corps Quarterly book, featuring a hunky GL who uses alien corpses for compost, Alan Scott being all young and stuff, a story about space spore Itty, and a somber story involving G'nort and a canine Galactus suit wearing villain. Yeah, it's a crazy mixed bag this time out. So unless you want Deadman entering you unexpectedly (not in that way sicko!), I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Hello dear listeners, and welcome to a torture (TORCHA!!!) filled episode of Just One of the Guys. And as you can tell by the cover to the book this week, we're witness to Lord Darkseid's (and his faithful companion Cylde's) creepy grand inquisitor, Desaad! He's gotten ahold of Green Lantern and is implimenting all sorts of torture (TORCHA!!!) on our emerald hero. And from the title of the crossover, it looks like the torture (TORCHA!!!) has something to do with the Phil Collins band that Peter Gabriel left to make videos about shocking monkeys. I could be wrong about that. And in the second book, Green Lantern Corps Quarterly #4, we get the first Green Lantern story written by then current Green Lantern writer Ron Marz. Plus there's some nice art of a ridiculously hot girl in some outlandish lingere, an Alan Scott story drawn by Jim "I Like Boobs" Balent where Green Lantern tussels with Solomon Grundy, an G'nort story where he goes to an Obedience School reunion, and a story about a school marm who refuses being a Green Lantern. Yeah, they all can't be winners. So unless you want Desaad to play "Sussudio" over and over again (Wait, that's not Genesis either...), I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Happy day after Thanksgiving, folks, and welcome back to another episode of Just One of the Guys, the only podcast that never has a problem with overindulgence. Probably because of all of these "message" issues that are coming up in the Green Lantern title, starting with issue 90 where Kyle meets up with an old friend from the neighborhood who seems to have a bit of a problem...a bit of a DRINKING problem. And its up to Kyle and an incredibly hot, female bartender to set him on the right path. And over in the second book slot, we also have some "message" issues as well as Green Lantern Corps Quarterly #3 brings us a tale of a Green Lantern who treats all the poor like criminals, an Alan Scott story that features his Justice Society teammates, another goofy story with G'nort, and "Whatever Happened to Charlie Vicker". Yes, I'm like most of you who probably gave a resounding, "Who?" to that last story. But don't worry, it features...ACTING!!! So grab the leftover turkey from the fridge, download the show, and get to listening. Domo arigato, lantern-y listeners, and welcome back to another episode of Just One of the Guys, where we take a look at the best and worst of the Green Lantern books from the 90's. Sadly, this time out kind of falls into the latter column. Not because of the book itself, but moreover the new villain...The Machine Messiah!!! No amount of exclaimation points could make this Chopping Mall reject into any kind of Green Lantern villain worthy to compile the data of more engaging villains like...The Shark, or The Lamplighter. Plus we get the departure of Donna Troy from the book due to as of yet unknown circumstances. Even more of a reason to be bummed out. But the Green Lantern Corp Quarterly book is better...in parts. There's a great Alan Scott story where he tussles with big headed freak, Hector Hammond. There's a G'nort story where his pedigree actually saves the day. There's a fun Mark Waid/Ty Templeton tale about a rookie GL who let his 24 hour charge run out. And there's a story about Muppet faced bugs...Yeah, that one is one of the parts that isn't better, AT ALL. But hey, they can't all be winners. So unless you want to have to listen to the Yes song "Machine Messiah" in it's entirety (all eleven minutes of it), I'd suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Happy Friday, dear listeners, and thank you for downloading this episode of Just One of the Guys, the only show brave enough to use a song from the wife of Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger as it's opening music. This time out the song isn't as annoying, but the issue of Green Lantern kind of is. Not only does Kyle have to deal with irate relatives of his ex-girlfriend Alex, an overly protective mother, but also one of the lamest villains to appear in the Green Lantern book, the Machine Messiah! Hair Metal Sonar seems sublimely nuanced compared to this. Plus I'm going to start looking at some books that came out during this run of Green Lantern, starting with Green Lantern Corps Quarterly #1, which features the introduction of one of the most fun, yet most underused Green Lanterns, Jack T Chance! Plus there's back up stories about Alan Scott, G'nort, Arisia, and...well, let's just call it what it is, an inventory story. But coming along for the ride this time out is the co-host of Better in the Dark along with Derrick Ferguson and author of Shadow Legion: New Roads to Hell, Mr Thomas Deja. Some criminal backsides are going to be kicked. So unless you want to have to take the sofa at Kyle's mom's place, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening! Greetings comic lovers, and welcome to another episode of Just One of the Guys, the show that is truly Marvelous! No, I'm not channeling late 1980's Billy Crystal, I'm talking about the Green Lantern book, which features a guest spot from Earth's Mightiest Mortal, Captain Marvel. Together with Green Lantern, he takes down a resurrected Egyptian god and does it without even throwing a punch. That's how fricking awesome Captain Marvel is! But what's even more awesome is this week's issue of Guy Gardner Warrior. This time out, Guy is headed to the 1996 Toy Expo to check out the new line of Warrior action figures and view the pilot of Guy Gardner Warrior: The Animated Series. And as a bonus treat, we get to see the show rendered before our eyes by the late great Mike Parobeck. It truly is one of the most fun issues of Guy Gardner ever published; maybe one of the most fun comics published in the 1990's. If you even have a passing interest in this show, go hunt down this book, you won't be disappointed! So unless you want Buck Wargo to start ripping off his shirt, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening! Welcome back, faithful listeners, to another episode of Just One of the Guys, the podcast with the highest amount of angry, red-headed characters on the internet (take that, Rupert Grint-cast!). This week we're back to coverage of Mr. Guy Gardner and the troubles he is having stemming from goings on in the "Breakdowns" storyline that was carrying on in the Justice League books. In this episode we get Guy railing against the liberal establishment, fortune tellers of questionable gender, the return of G'nort, and an antagonist wearing yellow (well, technically gold) armor. Welcome back faithful listeners, to another exciting episode of Just One of the Guys. Why is this episode considered to be exciting? Is it because the previous ones were pretty lackluster? NO!!! (Well, not in my humble estimation, but what is that really worth?) It's because this is the reason this podcast came about. Today we begin coverage of Guy Gardner in his first solo story arc "A Guy and His G'nort", and it is chock full of Guy Gardner-y goodness. This time out we've got Hal sporting a pompodour that would make Elvis jealous, John giving a little TMI about his musical likes, and Guy being...well, Guy. Plus floaty heads, angry native stereotypes channeling Pee-Wee Herman, and G'nort. Yes, a talking, bipedal terrier Green Lantern. This is going to be fun.
