As part of 12 Days of The Comic Source, this Fireside Chat features Jace welcoming back writer Jeremy Adams for an in-depth, free-flowing conversation covering a wide range of current and recent projects alongside broader creative philosophy. Jeremy discusses Aquaman, focusing on redefining Arthur Curry as an avatar-level powerhouse and how DC KO positions him against Hawkman in a tournament setting that highlights his expanded abilities; Green Lantern, detailing long-form planning around the fractured emotional spectrum, Hal Jordan's evolving role, and the reintegration of legacy elements like Jon Stewart, Kyle Rayner, and long-dormant continuity threads; and the digital crossover Flash / Fantastic Four, where Jeremy explains the constraints and opportunities of vertical-format storytelling and character interaction outside heavy continuity. The conversation also touches on multiple DC KO tie-ins, including a Green Lantern wrestling-themed one-shot that expands the Wham mythology, the youth-focused The Kids Are All Fight, which centers Jon Kent guiding younger heroes during a world-ending crisis, and the high-concept DC KO crossover featuring non-DC characters such as Homelander, Vampirella, and Sub-Zero. Jeremy further reflects on the broader DC creative landscape, including Absolute and Next Level initiatives, while sharing insight into continuity stewardship, editorial collaboration, and the balance between ambitious ideas and reader expectations, before closing on a seasonal note as he talks about specific holiday traditions such as winter outings like sledding, revisiting favorite Christmas movies, and enjoying local holiday events and markets with his family as a way to slow down and reconnect during the end-of-year rush.

Jace catches up with Jeremy Adams at SDCC 2025 to talk all things Green Lantern and Aquaman. They discuss current events in Green Lantern with all the emotions being shut off and how three artificial beings may be the key to restoring the emotional spectrum. Plus plenty of Kyle Rayner talk about all the fans of the definitive Green Lantern of the 90's. We find out about the cause of Kyle's recent instability, how he can still channel the power of a White Lantern and the "death-blossom" power that comes with it that leaves him very vulnerable if he uses it. Also a ton talk about Aquaman who we know will play a major role in DC KO. Is Aquaman one of the most powerful heroes in the entire DCU? What do you need to know about Aquaman BEFORE you dive into DC KO? Listen in for all the details!

Concluding (for now) our look at the saga of Kyle Rayner, the last of the Green Lantern Corps (for the ‘90s, at least). Just when Kyle finally thinks he's proved himself for all time as a worthy owner of the power ring, his future comes into question when a trip to the 30th century reveals the Legion of Super-Heroes have no record of his career as Green Lantern. His position isn't much more secure in the 20th century after he picks up an unplanned stowaway on his travels through time: a novice Hal Jordan. By the time Parallax shows up, all our emerald gladiators have to confront their legacies for better or for worse. As we wrap up, we'll also talk about the real-world legacy of the character and comic in the wake of Hal Jordan's more permanent return in Geoff Johns' Green Lantern: Rebirth.Discussed in this episode: Green Lantern #95-106, plus crossover issues of Green Arrow and The Flash. We could use a little green ourselves! Support the show at patreon.com/ironageofcomics
In our continuing series on the early years of Kyle Rayner, our hero squares off against Fatality, a spacefaring warrior woman who wants to crush the Green Lantern Corps (even though Hal Jordan has mostly done the job already). Kyle also gets a new roommate with a connection to the GL legacy, introduces his girlfriend to his mom, gets trapped in a painting, and deals with a troubled friend who was indirectly responsible for Kyle getting the ring in the first place. Featuring team-ups with Green Arrow Connor Hawke, Superboy Kon-El, Deadman, and Kyle's new JLA teammate J'Onn J'Onzz the Martian Manhunter.Discussed in this episode: Green Lantern #83-94 and Annual #6 (1997), plus crossover issues of Green Arrow and Superboy.Support the pod at patreon.com/ironageofcomics
"Women in Refrigerators": Understanding Fridging in Superhero MediaIn this eye-opening episode of Superhero Ethics, hosts Matthew and Riki tackle the controversial topic of "fridging" with special guest Jessica Plummer, a comic book historian with expertise in gender representation. The term "fridging," coined by comic writer Gail Simone in 1999, refers to the killing, maiming, or assault of female characters primarily to advance a male character's storyline. What exactly is fridging and where did the term come from? The term "women in refrigerators" originated from a 1994 Green Lantern issue where Kyle Rayner's girlfriend Alexandra DeWitt was murdered and stuffed in a refrigerator by villain Major Force. This served solely to motivate Kyle's character development and revenge arc. The podcast explores how this pattern repeats across comics, films, and TV shows, with female characters frequently introduced only to be brutalized for male character development. Why is fridging problematic beyond just character death? The discussion highlights how fridging isn't just about women dying - it's about the specific ways their bodies are violated and displayed, often in sexualized or gratuitously violent ways. The hosts examine how female characters are disproportionately subjected to these fates compared to male characters, despite already being underrepresented in superhero media to begin with. How does fridging differ from other character deaths? The podcast examines the key differences between fridging and other character deaths. Male characters often die heroically in battle with "noble sacrifices" and frequently return from death, while female characters are more commonly assaulted in domestic settings like kitchens, portrayed as helpless victims rather than heroes making choices, and rarely return from death. What about fridging and race in media? The conversation expands to discuss similar patterns with characters of color, who are often introduced as side characters only to be killed to motivate white protagonists. While the panel debates whether "fridging" should specifically refer to violence against women or could apply more broadly, they agree the core issue is about which characters get to be protagonists versus disposable plot devices.Other topics discussed:The original Green Lantern fridging incident that gave the trope its nameHow Black Widow's death in Avengers: Endgame exhibits elements of fridgingThe repeated visual motif of female character deaths (like Gwen Stacy's fall)Examples of media that subvert fridging expectations, like John Wick and DaredevilHow some characters have "climbed out of the fridge" through character resurrection and reimaginingWriters and creators who have worked to challenge and change this tropeThe relationship between shock value and fridging**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. It looks like Kyle Rayner and Donna Troy have broken up. In an effort to avoid both the consequences of his own self-sabotage and improve his approach to being Green Lantern, Kyle decides to go on a cross-country trip to seek advice from Batman, Captain Marvel, and Wonder Woman. He'll also stand with Adam Strange and the Darkstars against Darkseid's secret son and seek his own long-lost father with the help of new Green Arrow Connor Hawke. Beginning an in-depth look at the life and times of Kyle Rayner, a new Green Lantern for a new era! It's 1994, sales on the Green Lantern comic are down, and with anniversary issue #50 on the horizon, DC is looking to revitalize the title. New writer Ron Marz is brought on board with a mission: replace Silver Age stalwart Hal Jordan with a new character (in a new costume designed by incoming regular penciler Darryl Banks). The introduction of freelance-artist-turned-superhero Kyle led to Green Lantern climbing the charts, but it also courted controversy by turning Hal into a megalomaniacal villain and through a scene that would later inspire Gail Simone to create the website “Women in Refrigerators.” Discussed in this episode: Green Lantern #48-58 and #0, plus crossover issues of R.E.B.E.L.S. ‘94 and New Titans
