Welcome back to a special Ask Me Anything edition of The Therapy Crouch! This week, Abbey, Peter, and Gaz are recording in style from London's Corinthia Hotel. The gang kick things off with a debate over spa days, why Abbey would rather see the coving guy than go on date night, hungover spooning styles, and an awkward run-in with Frank Skinner. Then it's straight into listener dilemmas: Pete faces an impossible round of "Marry, Shag, Avoid", the group build a playlist out of their own names, and a listener writes in with a massive family feud over naming their baby after a grandparent "Mildred". Plus, Abbey and Pete put £1,000 on the line for charity in a heated VAR playback bet!00:00 Welcome to the Corinthia Hotel AMA!01:09 Date Night Rejections & Abbey's Coving Obsession03:24 Ice Cube Snobs & Weekly Whines05:04 The Spooning Debate: Jetpack Joe & Mountain Bikes07:22 Frank Skinner Encounters & Awkward Stare-Offs09:47 Listener Question: Marry, Shag, Avoid13:28 The Alphabet Name Music Game (Prince, Phil Collins & Bob Sinclar)16:29 Agony Abs: The "Mildred" Baby Name Dilemma18:40 VAR REPLAY POINT!19:27 The £100 Charity Bet19:57 Tall Kid Names & Why We're Losing the Name "Gary"23:42 Wrap Up & Final ThoughtsTo contact us:Email: thetherapycrouch@gmail.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thetherapycrouchpodcast/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thetherapycrouchWebsite: https://thetherapycrouch.com/For more from Peterhttps://twitter.com/petercrouchFor more from Abbeyhttps://www.instagram.com/abbeyclancyOur clips channelhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZntcv96YhN8IvMAKsz4Dbg Hosted on Acast. It's another Listener Mail episode of High on Home Grown, and this week we've got questions covering everything from drying cannabis in extreme desert conditions to running a perpetual grow in two narrow tents, with plenty of completely unrelated nonsense thrown in for good measure! Desert MK brings us not one but two questions this week. First up, we tackle the nightmare of trying to dry cannabis when you're dealing with temperatures around 105°F (40°C) and single-digit humidity. With even air-conditioned rooms struggling to get below 75°F, Desert MK asks about the Lotus method, using a refrigerator and paper bags to dry the harvest, and whether there are other alternative drying and curing methods worth considering. Could this be the perfect excuse for another Grow Guide? Then Desert MK has another question, this time about VPD. If all the charts say a VPD of 6.5 KPa should be disastrous, how are outdoor plants surviving and thriving in 105-110°F desert conditions? We get into the difference between what the calculators tell us and what plants actually experience, and why simply looking at one number doesn't always tell the whole story. Phil Me Bowls gets us thinking about the munchies. Is there actually a connection between the type of cannabis high you're experiencing and the snacks you choose? Does a more cerebral high send you towards completely different food choices than a heavy body stone? Or are we just looking for an excuse to eat everything in the cupboard? Lobby Lobster brings the chaos with a Shag, Marry, Avoid involving Putin, Trump and Kim Jong Un, before getting back to the important questions. Will we be bringing back another legendary strain list when the Grow Guides return, and if each panel member could breed their own strain and give it a name, what would they call it? SMG is planning a perpetual grow using two narrow tents in a garage, with one tent for veg and one for flower. The question is whether it's possible to connect the two tents using ducting while running both environments from a single extractor fan, and what problems might arise when trying to maintain the right conditions in two separate growing spaces. And finally, Free Nugz gives us another classic panel question: if we were intentionally stranded on a desert island with the other panel members and could bring just two items from home, what would we choose? Because apparently being stranded on an island with this lot wasn't already punishment enough. As always, plenty of growing advice, questionable decisions, strange hypotheticals and panel debates in this week's Listener Mail!

Why does everything on the internet eventually become aboutus? This week on What The Frock?, Rabbi Dave and Friar Rod dive into Bean Soup Theory, the wonderfully simple idea that explains an astonishing amount of what happens on social media. Someone posts a recipe for bean soup, and instead of deciding whether they want bean soup, people start demanding substitutions, alterations, and entirely new recipes designed around their own tastes. Before long, somebody else's soup has become all about them.Sound familiar? The theory becomes the thread connecting three verydifferent stories. First, Dave and Rod return to the troubling story of Cambridge professor Jason Arday. Following his resignation and sudden death, arguments over his academic record quickly became arguments over racism, DEI, institutional responsibility, politics, and who should be blamed. Everybodyseems determined to stir something of their own into the pot. Then it's off to sea aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, where reports about an extraordinarily long deployment, shipboard conditions, food, and unhappy sailors have generated plenty of outrage ashore. Dave brings his own experience as a Navy submariner to the discussion, including powdered eggs, questionable meals, relentless cleaning, inspections, Navy chiefs, and the ancient sailor's tradition of complaining about absolutely everything. Finally, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese walksstraight into the soup pot when a podcaster asks him to play "Shag, Marry, Date." He initially refuses, she keeps pushing, Kylie Minogue enters the conversation, and Australia gets another reason to argue on the internet.Three stories. One increasingly familiar human impulse: How can I make this about me?Grab a spoon. The bean soup is ready.#WhatTheFrock #BeanSoupTheory #JasonArday #USSAbrahamLincoln#AnthonyAlbanese #SocialMedia #InternetCulture #OnlineOutrage #Podcast#RabbiDave #FriarRod

We've got one more Must See Horror before we kickstart our Summer Slasher Series, so we're looking at Peter Jackson's Braindead/Dead Alive. Before he brought us the unforgettable fantasy epic of J.R.R Tolkien's Lord of the Ring's, Peter Jackson was getting up to some extremely gory weirdness with something that's a little Evil Dead, a little Monty Python and a little something we don't really understand. Guest: Shagg Matthews from the Fire & Water Podcast Network joins John and Jim to discuss the penultimate story of Classic Doctor Who. The Darkest Hour(s) Before the Dawn The hosts are unified in their assessment: this is the darkest, most adult, most dramatically mature story of the entire series. It's not dark in tone alone—it's dark in theme, dark in implications, dark in what it reveals about the Doctor's character. One joke exists in the entire episode; everything else operates in shades of genuine dread. The production team clearly knew they were operating on borrowed time and decided to swing for the fences: a World War II setting, a genuine first-evil antagonist, psychological manipulation, body horror, and questions about faith itself. A Writer and a Producer in a Battle Over Hemovores Ian Briggs returned to Doctor Who after nearly a full season away—Andrew Cartmel had to convince JNT to give him another chance. Once given that chance, JNT immediately began second-guessing and meddling. The hemovores were originally supposed to look different, more monstrous. JNT thought they looked "rather rude"—apparently resembling a sexual organ—and demanded they be toned down. The final design: vampiric-looking humanoids that started as two schoolgirls. It's a compromise that somehow works brilliantly despite the behind-the-scenes friction. A Location Shoot That Feels Real Rather than attempt the Blitz with pyrotechnics and sets, Nicholas Mallet (returning from Paradise Towers) persuaded JNT to film entirely on location. They shot in Dorset and Northumberland, capturing genuine seaside cliffs and windswept locations. The weather cooperated and didn't cooperate simultaneously—freak conditions meant one day brought snow, the next sunshine, then rain. Rather than reshoot, they worked it into the story. McCoy kept his own heavy coat between takes; the production said it looked good, so he wore it throughout. Sophie Aldred handpicked her costume and refused to cover it with an overcoat, keeping her arms visible at all times. A Story That Was Never Meant to Be an Ending (But Knows It Is) Only John Nathan Turner knew the show was ending. Everyone else—including Sylvester McCoy, who'd signed a contract for Season 27—was operating under the assumption the show would continue. McCoy was all set to return; Sophie Aldred hadn't even been offered one yet. The BBC officially called it a "hiatus" while quietly beginning a competitive tender process to find a new production company. But among all the cast and crew, only JNT was preparing this as a potential final chapter. The others were simply making the next story. The Story: A mysterious entity called Fenric—described as one of the first evils of the universe—has been imprisoned for 17 centuries. In 1943, a small English coastal town becomes the battleground. Russian soldiers are hunting for a scientist named Judson, who's secretly developing a computer to decode German ciphers. The Doctor arrives to find ancient Viking ruins, encoded runes that must never be translated, and mysterious creatures rising from the water. When the runes are translated, Fenric's influence begins to spread. The true revelation: Fenric has been manipulating events for centuries, including the entire relationship between the Doctor and Ace. Production Details: Production Code: 7M Aired: October 15 – November 14, 1989 Writer: Ian Briggs | Director: Nicholas Mallet Guest Stars: Nicholas Parsons (Reverend Wainwright), Dinsdale Landen (Commander Millington) Filming Location: Lulworth Cove in Dorset; North Umberland or possibly Whitby (accounts vary) Notable Details: First Doctor Who story set in WWII (War Games covered WWI) All-location filming —rain, snow, and sunlight all captured genuinely Sophie Aldred dove into water three times to get the shot; divers had to follow her on the final take McCoy wore his personal coat between takes; production kept it in final cut Ratings: 4.3M, 4M, 4M, 4.2M (held above 4 million throughout) Music: Mark Ayers Novelization: Ian Briggs (same author), includes epilogue set in 1887 Paris Key Discussion Points: Why this story works as mature television drama The manipulation thread: Fenric manipulating the Doctor and Ace; the Doctor manipulating Ace for a greater good The distraction scene and whether it lands (or whether it makes viewers uncomfortable) Ace's fear of water: genuinely from the story, or character development invented for the finale? The Doctor's faith expressed through his companions' names (from novelization) Why the Ancient One/Great Serpent feels unnecessary when Madison and Fenric were compelling enough The Doctor being "on patrol"—Batman and Robin dynamics with Ace Ace's first genuine character arc across multiple seasons The seduction vs. the seduction scene: why one works and the other doesn't How this story informs RTD's approach to companion arcs in New Who Season 27 plans: Ace was meant to train for the Time Lord Academy The rain and weather: natural hazard or perfect cinematography? Coming Up Next: Monday (Patreon Exclusive 179): Music, Memory TARDIS, and "The Mark of Mandragora" comics. Friday (Patreon Early) / Wednesday (Main Feed): "Survival" (three-parter)—the actual final story of Classic Doctor Who. John handles narration; guest writer Paul Ebbs from England joins the discussion. Special Notes: This is the second-to-last classic Who story John mentions this is only the second time he's "mainlined" multiple episodes in a row (the first time being War Games) The hosts plan to do a retrospective episode after Survival covering favorite doctors, companions, and villains across all 26 years Shag gives credit to the novelization for revealing that the Doctor whispers the names of the First Doctor's companions (Ian, Barbara, Susan, Vicki, Stephen) as his source of faith against the hemovores Hashtags: #DoctorWho #Season26 #TheCurseOfFenric #ClassicWho #SylvesterMcCoy #SophieAldred #Fenric #DoctorManipulates #DarkestStory #DoctorWhoPodcast #PenultimateStory

Anthony Albanese has apologised “unequivocally” for his comments while playing a “shag, marry, date” game on a comedy podcast when he nominated Kylie Minogue for all three categories. The prime minister issued a statement on Monday morning after receiving criticism at the weekend for his appearance on the Bush Deep podcast with the comedian Nikki Osborne. Amid a lighthearted interview released late last week, in which topics included Albanese's dog and gifts he'd received from world leaders, the host asked Albanese in a “rapid fire” question round to place Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman and Rhonda Burchmore in a “shag, marry, date” game. #anthonyalbanese #kylieminogue
