The last time Sara and S.E. were guests here on GBB, we were discussing Lost Girl, so of course, they were the first people to come to mind when discussing the contemporary Sapphic delight that is the topic of our current episode, the Syfy original, Wynonna Earp Based on the comic book miniseries by Beau Smith, this supernatural Western horror follows the great-great-daughter of legendary lawman Wyatt Earp after she inherits the power to return reincarnated villains back to hell, using her ancestor's magical gun. This series was bold, and ambitious, and quickly became an audience favourite, but what did we think of Wynonna Earp? Stay tuned!

Tolstoy's fiction includes dozens of short stories and several novellas such as The Death of Ivan Ilyich, Family Happiness, and Hadji Murad. He also wrote plays and numerous philosophical essays. In the 1870s Tolstoy experienced a profound moral crisis, followed by what he regarded as an equally profound spiritual awakening, as outlined in his non-fiction work A Confession. His literal interpretation of the ethical teachings of Jesus, centering on the Sermon on the Mount, caused him to become a fervent Christian anarchist and pacifist. Tolstoy's ideas on nonviolent resistance, expressed in such works as The Kingdom of God Is Within You, were to have a profound impact on such pivotal 20th-century figures as Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. Tolstoy also became a dedicated advocate of Georgism, the economic philosophy of Henry George, which he incorporated into his writing, particularly Resurrection. He was born in Yasnaya Polyana, Tula Governorate - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_Tolstoy9 Sept 1890 - Colonel Harland David Sanders, American businessman, best known for founding fast food chicken restaurant chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (also known as KFC) and later acting as the company's brand ambassador and symbol. His name and image are still symbols of the company. The title 'colonel' was honorary – a Kentucky Colonel – not the military rank. Sanders held a number of jobs in his early life, such as steam engine stoker, insurance salesman and filling station operator. He began selling fried chicken from his roadside restaurant inNorth Corbin, Kentucky, during the Great Depression. During that time Sanders developed his "secret recipe" and his patented method of cooking chicken in a pressure fryer. Sanders recognized the potential of the restaurant franchising concept, and the first KFC franchise opened in South Salt Lake, Utah in 1952. When his original restaurant closed, he devoted himself full-time to franchising his fried chicken throughout the country. The company's rapid expansion across the United States and overseas became overwhelming for Sanders. In 1964, then 73 years old, he sold the company to a group of investors led by John Y. Brown Jr. and Jack C. Massey for $2 million ($16.2 million today). However, he retained control of operations in Canada, and he became a salaried brand ambassador for Kentucky Fried Chicken. He was born in Henryville, Indiana - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonel_Sanders9 Sept 1953 - Janet Fielding, Australian actress, known for her role in the BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who as companion of the Fourth Doctor, and later of the Fifth Doctor,Tegan Jovanka. George Stibitz arranged to have the computer connected by telephone lines (28-wire teletype cable) to a teletype unit installed there. The Complex Number Computer worked well, and there is no doubt it impressed those who used it. The meeting was attended by many of America's most prominent mathematicians, as well as individuals who later led important computing projects. This summer The Interview Show went on the road to Alberta's Canadian Rockies to attend the Banff World Media Festival 2018. At the festival, I got to hobnob with actors, directors, producers and writers creating innovative content for a world audience. In the palatial Fairmont Banff Springs Resort and Luxury Hotel, I hung out with Emily Andras, the showrunner of Wynonna Earp, a supernatural Western horror television series, airing on Syfy and Space, starring Melanie Scrofano. This scrappy indie Canadian TV series has carved out a devoted fan following (of people who like kickass female gunslingers and unkillable gays.) The show is about to launch its third season July 16th, so we chatted about the challenges and successes the show has faced so far. What was it like turning an indie comic book (created by Beau Smith) into a TV show? What is the Bury Your Gays TV trope? How did Wynonna Earp start the Unkillable Gays TV Trope? How do you raise the stakes in a show about battling demons if some characters can't die? What's it like when you lead actor tells you she's pregnant after you've already written six scripts for season two? Which Canadian Icon will play Wynonna's long-lost mother in season three? You'll have to listen to find out! Tracks played on the podcast edition of the show... 1) Wynonna Earp opening, unreleased... edit of Jill Andrews, Tell That Devil single (2016) "Tell That Devil" 2) Jill Andrews, Tell That Devil single (2016) "Tell That Devil" NO songs CANCON

There comes a time when everybody has to leave home... and that's no different for our new friend Marvelman, who, during this episode makes the trek across the Atlantic, and starts getting published stateside by Eclipse Comics. Not before a little tweak in his title though. For their middle installment of Exploring the Mysteries of MarveREDACTED... let's try that again. Exploring the Mysteries of MarREDACTED. Hmm... okay, we'll do it their way... For this installment of Exploring the Mysteries of Miracleman, Chris (@acecomics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) discuss more growing pains than a house full of Seavers when they continue their long-form look at our Kimota-shouting hero. This week they will set the stage for the domestic (if you live in the United States) arrival (and sorta-kinda revival) of Miracleman... and briefly discuss the remaining Alan Moore run as well as the still unfinished Neil Gaiman run. Then... they start getting into the nitty-gritty, and really the "meat and potatoes" of any real Miracleman discussion... the rights! Welcome to the story, Mr. McFarlane... hope you survive the experience! Next week we will do our best to "tie a bow" on Miracleman, his story, and the creative forces all vying for ownership! -- You can get a hold of us at weirdcomicshistory@gmail.com -- For our weekly writings check out www.weirdsciencedccomics.com For Chris' daily writings check out www.chrisisoninfiniteearths.com -- Check out www.weirdcomicshistory.blogspot.com for show notes! -- Visit us on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/CosmicTMillHistory and on Twitter @CosmicTMill -- We're also now on YouTube... just search "weirdcomicshistory" (all one word) and you ought to be able to find us! -- Subscribe to the show on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Play, iHeartRadio... wherever's most convenient! Written and created by Beau Smith with art by Lora Innes & color by Jay Fotos, WYNONNA EARP is the story of the secret, supernatural-focused division of the US Marshals service, Black Badge. Leading our secret team are Agent Xavier Dolls and Wynonna Earp, the great-great-great-etc., granddaughter of famous Lawman, Wyatt Earp. They're supported (or betrayed) by mysterious cowboy "John Henry" and are currently attempting to bust a cartel of Chupacabra Cannibals operating out of the south west United States.

Developed by Lost Girl's Emily Andras, Beau Smith's comic series comes to the SyFy network as Wynonna Earp's demon killing debuts. In the pilot Wynonna returns to her home to attend her uncle's funeral, but the mystery surrounding his death and the arrival of her 27th birthday signal that things are about to get real. Played by Melanie Scrofano, Wynonna reunites with her sister Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkey) who has been patiently waiting for her older sister's return. Federal agent Dolls (Shamier Anderson) coerces Wynonna to join his X-Fileish team of demon hunters. Wayne brings back Project X with a look at the man behind the legend, Wyatt Earp. Episode Grade: B+

It's the end of an era...again. Yes, once again we've reached a milestone here at Just One of the Guys, as with this episode we bid farewell to Ron Marz as the main writer on the book. Ever since he took over in issue number 48, Marz has done a stellar job a making Kyle Rayner, an entirely new character into one of the most interesting heroes in the modern day DC Universe. And with issue 125, Marz says his goodbyes. Is the story a fitting ending to the Ron Marz era on Green Lantern? You'll just have to listen to find out! Plus we're also going to cover Green Lantern 80 Page Giant #1, an "inventory-tastic" issue that tells tales of all of the Green Lanterns of Earth; from Guy to Kyle, Alan to John, Hal and even G'nort, all get their own story in this book. The sad truth is...these aren't really very good. I mean, even the Beau Smith penned one feels shoehorned into being about Guy as a Green Lantern rather than guy as Warrior. Plus the internet meme of #GoAwayBenRaab is introduced as we get a look at stories yet to come. Winick better be a LOT better than this. But to ease me through the pain of this issue, I've got my good friend and Guy Gardner fan, Thomas Deja (co-host of Better in the Dark) along for the ride. So unless you want to have your head crushed by the thighs of a Mitch Byrd female, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! IT'S EPISODE 100!!! Yes folks, the day no one, including myself, thought would ever come has arrived. Episode 100 of Just One of the Guys is up and ready for your perusal, and hopefully you will find it to be as enjoyable as the comics we are covering...maybe even moreso. First off we cover issue 100 of Green Lantern, where Kyle meets up with Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps, gets in a fight with Lantern arch-villain Sinestro, and accidentally brings Hal into the post Parallax present. How will Jordan cope with the 90's? Will Sinestro finally destroy the Guardians? And will Terry Austin over ink the book again? The answers might surprise you. Plus we finish up our coverage of the Green Lantern Corps Quarterly books with issue number 8. This time out Alan Scott faces off against a villain so nineties that Youngblood called and told him to tone that sh!t down, Lobo and Jack T Chance square off because, you know, THE NINETIES, and Probert snaps a misogynistic douchebag's leg at the knee in a story penned by the "Manliest Man in Comicdom", Beau Smith! And if that wasn't enough, I've brought my very good friend Thomas Deja (Better in the Dark, Damn Your Eyes! Damn Your Ears!, and Shadow Legion: New Roads to Hell) to help banter about all the Green Lantern goodness. Welcome, everyone, to an "I want to believe" episode of Just One of the Guys, a Green Lantern podcast. And no, this isn't the one where David Duchovney guests in the book and admits his sex addiction, but where the actual alien J'onn J'onzz guests in the book and he and Green Lantern share some awkward silences, fight with an invading alien ship bent of terraforming the Earth, and meet up with and alien former Green Lantern. So many aliens that Fox Mulder would actually have to change his underpants due to sheer joy of discovering their existence...or perhaps the aforementioned sex addiction, you decide. But we also wrap up the story of Guy Gardner and Steel fighting Sledge and The Enforcer (*snicker*) in Showcase '96 number 2, written by the indominitable Beau Smith. It's a tour de force of excellent writing that shades each character in and deconstructs the 90's era in a way never before seen...Nah, I'm just pulling your leg, its just one big knockdown drag out brawl. But sometimes, those are just what you need. So, unless you want more awkward scenes of Kyle trying to make conversation with the Martian Manhunter (and I know Diabolu Frank does), I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Happy Day After Halloween, dear listeners, and thanks for downloading another episode of Just One of the Guys, the full size Snickers Bar of podcasts...do Halloween candy metaphors work in this medium? Probably not. No matter, we have a particular treat (Get it? Of course you do...) for you this time out with a Beau Smith penned issue of Guy Gardner! In Showcase '96, the manliest man in comicdom weaves a two-fisted, bare knuckled brawl into a tale starring Guy and John Henry Irons, better known as Steel, beating on Sledge and Guy's clone Joe. It's just what you would expect from the 90's era of Guy. And over in Green Lantern, Kyle gets a new roommate in the form of Alan Scott offspring and boob window promoter, Jade. He also gets a visit from overly protective brother Obsidion who catches Kyle admiring Jade's lacey undergarments. It's like Three's Company with Superpowers, and the beginning of the end of the relationship between Donna and Kyle...which sucks. But you get a cheesecake shot of Jade in the shower, so there's that. So go grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Hello and welcome to a very special episode of Just One Of The Guys, a Green Lantern Podcast. No, it's not special in that we learn about those funny hairs growing on our bodies, but it's special in the fact that Thomas Deja (host of Better in the Dark and author of Shadow Legion Volume 1: New Roads to Hell) and I got to sit down and chat with the manliest man in comic-dom, Mr. Beau Smith! We talk extensively about Beau's run on Guy Gardner Warrior, and we also get the skinny on the various projects that were to have sprung out of that. Want to know about the crossover Beau had planned for Wonder Woman? Of course you do! Do you desire to find out how Batman and Guy would have resolved their differences? Without a doubt!! Can you even imagine what creator called Beau up to ask him about the new direction he was going to take Guy? No, you can't, it's just THAT mind bogglingly awesome!!! So unless you're just not macho enough to handle this much audio excellence, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening! Sam Elliot would want you to.Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Good Friday, dear listeners, and welcome to another fun filled episode of Just One of the Guys. This time out we're taking a look at Green Lantern #79, where we see Kyle in full on, self assured, ready to lay some smack down mode as he's called in to stop a prison break that was instigated by former Kip Winger wannabe, Sonar. Along the way we get cameos from Donna Troy in nothing but a dress shirt, Sledge, and Dr. Light, who is 100% less rapey in this issue. Granted, he's only in it for one panel, but you take what you can get. In the second book, we're covering Guy Gardner Warrior Annual #2, and wow, is it a complete 180 from the last annual. The art is stellar, the stories are fun, and there's even a touching moment at the end. Not what you would expect from the "Legends of the Dead Earth" series of Annuals, but when Beau Smith, Mitch Byrd, and Phil Jimenez are on the book, you shouldn't be surprised. So unless you want Risa to blab on you for saying a bad word, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Hello JOOTGuys (Okay, I don't have a cool name for listeners of the show like "Nuclear Subs", so sue me) and welcome back to another episode of Just One of the Guys. And after last week's coverage of Green Lantern and Green Arrow, I've got a special treat for you. This time out, along with the coverage of Green Lantern #78, in which Kyle homages the rescue scenes from Superman, checks in on hospitalized John Stewart, and professes his love for Donna Troy (who you might sneak a peek of her "Paradise Island" in this issue) I'm also covering Guy Gardner Warrior Annual #1!!! ... ... Sadly, the joy over the fact that I have a Guy Gardner book to cover is diminished by the muddy, overly detailed 90's art in the book. Even Beau Smith's storytelling can't rescue this one. But if you ever wanted to know what was up with that last bit of the "Way of the Warrior" story, here is the explanation. So prepare to taste Vuldarian justice, which does not take like chicken, and grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Hello everyone, and welcome to the end of an era at Just One of the Guys. Sadly as the Image chasing era of the 1990's draws to an end, so to does the Guy Gardner Warrior comic. In issue 44 of the book, the wi-fi of manly manliness, Beau Smith, teams up with artist Mitch Byrd to close out this chapter on the character of Guy Gardner, and they do it in fine style. Guy as written by Smith has never been better, and despite the over the top look and feel that was hefted on the character, Beau sends the character off in style. But I'd be remiss if I didn't include the Green Lantern issue, where Kyle takes on Grayven, a evil despot with daddy issues. Darkstars get taken out, John Stewart almost gets killed, and Adam Strange...is woefully underused. But Kyle has his first "epic save" so there is that... ... ... I'm sorry, I'm still kind of bummed that Guy Gardner is coming to and end. But thankfully I've got veteran podcaster and good friend Thomas Deja (host of Better in the Dark, Damn Your Eyes! Damn Your Ears!, and The Nocturne Travel Agency) to aid me through my grief. We celebrate this hidden gem in the era of big guns, big boobs and pouches, and give our respects to both Guy, Beau and Byrd. So come along and get some Vuldarian justice with us; it's what Guy would want you to do.Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! It's another Friday, which means not only the end of the work week (hopefully for most of you) but that its time for a brand new episode of Just One of the Guys. This time out, Green Lantern Kyle Rayner and his on again/off again girlfriend Donna Troy have to travel to the adoptive home of Adam Strange (one of DC's woefully underused heroes) to put a stop to the swath of destruction caused by brand new baddie, Grayven. Will he turn out to be the ultimate challenge for GL, or will he end up like many of Kyle's newly introduced villains (I'm looking at you, Purgatory)? And speaking of c-list villains, Guy Gardner is having to take on all of his rouges gallery in this, his penulitmate issue. Will Guy fall prey to the combined might of Dementor, Sledge, Joe (Guy's clone) Gardner, and... Black Serpent? I would sure as heck hope not. Plus we get the reveal of who the Quorum was growing in their "SCIENCE!!!" labs, and he's bound and detemined to give Guy some payback. It's part one of the final chapter of the Beau Smith era of Guy, and you definitely don't want to miss out! Happy Friday everyone and welcome back to another episode of Just One of the Guys, the podcast that isn't afraid to put out a show without the proper amount of research. Specifically, when in Green Lantern #71 you see a cover depicting Kyle and the Bat-Signal , you would obviously think Batman plays prominently in the book. Well, aside from asking Kyle to "SWEAR TO ME!!!", you would be pretty wrong. But Alan Scott is in the book, and he's dealing with the reprocussions of Underworld Unleashed making his wife all hot and stuff, so there is that. Over in Guy Gardner we get OH MY GAWD,WHAT HAPPENED TO GUY ON THE COVER?!? Wow, the nineties are in effect there, but thankfully, the story by Beau Smith is much better, with Guy, Buck and the crew tussling with Gorilla Grodd and his pack of Cyber-Apes...Okay, well the story is very nineties as well, but it's Beau FREAKING Smith, so it embraces the excess of the decade and has fun with it. And as an extra special bonus, I'm joined by podcasting genius Tom Panarese, host of Taking Flight:A Robin and Nightwing Podcast and Pop Culture Affidavit, who thought he would have a long discussion about Robin meeting up with Green Lantern. Sadly, we talked more about the awkward humor of Guy's mother. It wasn't the best. But having Tom on the show was, and I know you will love it all. So unless you want more monkey-spanking references in the show, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Happy holidays dear listener, and welcome back to another episode of Just One of the Guys. And even though the most recent holiday was April Fools Day (Tee-hee!), in the Green Lantern book, it's all about Christmas. Which for Kyle means monitor duty at Titans HQ, possible internal damage due to Impulse super speed tackling him, and dealing with the classic Green Lantern villain, Dr Polaris in the snazzy 90's version of his overly purple costume. But he does get to stand under the mistletoe with Donna Troy, so that's definitely a great present. Over in the Guy Gardner book, we get to unwrap the present that Major Force left in Guy's fridge...and it's not what you think. Plus Guy pounds the living snot out of Major Force as the two battle their way around the Beltway of Washington D.C. It's a giant fight sequence artfully done by craftsmen Beau Smith, Mitch Byrd, and Dan Davis, with a twist ending that will leave the internet on fire...if the internet was that prevelant during the time of publishing. So unless you want your Christmas ham served with an extra side of Vuldarian justice, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Happy day, lovely listeners, and welcome to another episode of Just One of the Guys, where my desire to talk about the Green Lantern comic has found an outlet which doesn't annoy my wife...at least not to the extent it would if I talked about it with her. Regardless, I'm going to talk about Green Lantern #57, where Kyle says a mournful goodbye to his past, moves to New York City, and joins the Titans. Oh, and he get's possessed by glass brain dome wearing villain, Psimon. So his first meet-up with the Titans isn't such a pleasant one. Over in Guy Gardner, we get a fill in artist with J.H. Williams III, the artist who is most associated with the Batgirl book. Only here the art is some of Williams' earliest, and for my money, some of his worst. Bill Clinton looks wonky, Joey Chen looks wonky, and Guy looks like Sloth from The Goonies. Thankfully we still have Beau Smith crafting the story, so the book has that going for it. So unless you want to get thrown out a window by an over the top, men on the edge cop, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Hello wonderful listeners, and welcome to very estrogen filled episode of Just One of the Guys. Estrogen filled, you say? Why yes, I reply, and not because of my fondness for the movie Steel Magnolias*. No, it's because we are dealing with issue #54 of Green Lantern, the infamous "Women in Refrigerators" issue that Gail Simone used to show how horribly female characters are treated in comics. And this was before Starfire and Harley Quinn were turned into sleazy sex objects. And speaking of sex objects, we get a glorious dose of that over in the issue of Guy Gardner: Warrior, but for some reason, it doesn't come of as sleazy. Not like that Arisia costume from a few issues back. Plus we get more action than both the Stallone Expendables movies in 22 pages of Beau Smith goodness. And to wrap up this bundle of fun, I have an extra special guest and first time podcaster, Mrs. Sally Pascale of Green Lantern Butts FOREVER! She lends her unique opinions on both the death of Kyle's girlfriend and the actual physicality of the women in the Guy Gardner book. Plus, she's a big fan of Guy, so that makes her the most wonderful woman on the internet in my opinion. So unless you want to be sharing some time beside the leftovers, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening! Finally, an extra special thanks to Sally for coming on the show. Despite the website's title, Sally's blog is more than just about Green Lantern butts. She is one of the best spoken bloggers out there, and her reviews of the Green Lantern books have a level of wit and knowledge that surpass many bloggers on the internet. Please go check out her site. You'll come for the Green Lantern Butts, but you'll stay for the amazingly fun posts! *I'm not that big a fan of Steel Magnolias, it's just a better pick than Fried Green Tomatoes.Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Welcome back, lovely listeners, to another episode of Just One of the Guys, where this time out I'm rasping my way through an issue of Green Lantern (Number 52 to be precise), where Kyle shows off his ring slinging skills by flying, making a motorcycle, and creating an image of his girlfriend Alex in a bikini that is almost, but not quite as revealing as Arisia's costume from episode 51. The in Guy Gardner Warrior, we get the ultimate showdown between Guy and Hal in another attempt to determine who has possession of the most tropes of the 1990s (I think Hal wins with the Spawn-like cape and incredibly huge shoulderpads). Quipping and punching abound, which is to be expected in a Beau Smith storyline. So, unless you want a supervillain to punch you in the back of the head, popping your eye out, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks!
