Freddy Appiah is a multifaceted/multi-talented dude who puts Malton on his back no matter what. From growing up as a youth in Malton as a student at Ascension of our Lord Secondary School to now being an educator and head coach at ASCC through the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, Freddy has stayed true to his roots and is daily pouring into the lives of Malton's Youth. Recently, after having coached multiple AAU teams, adult leagues and more, Freddy decided to focus on the fundamentals of ball and developing young players by starting the Malton Youth League, which also hosts a rep team, the Malton Dawgz. Basketball, Freddy notes, was what kept him off the street's and it ended up resulting in him being scouted by CalU, where he was later drafted into the NBL by the Moncton Miracles, and later played for the Halifax Rainmen and the Brampton A's. Freddy talks about the reality of actually "Going League" and states that pursuing his bachelors in education was to make sure he was educated and didn’t just rely on sports. Today Freddy uses his athleticism and life experience to not only serve students and youth in his home community, but across the GTA through his own leagues and through his non-profit "Thank You Organization" Among many other things, Freddy is professional basketball player, a youth worker, a mentor, a motivational speaker/life coach/educator, and a proud father/husband who values his family. On this episode we get REAL and talk about how basketball is really a business, why Malton is so important to him, the realities of running your own non-profit, and how as a man, you sometimes have to live with decisions you regret.
