The debut of the Indian Panthers from the men's NBL was always going to be a disaster, according to long-time basketball coach Jeff Green. The Panthers have been suspended indefinitely after allegations emerged around delayed player payments and treatment. Green told Jason Pine it was a tough ask to come in at a late stage with no real ties to this country, and to be any chance of surviving, it needed to be planned carefully. He also has suspicions it was a trans-Tasman back-door listing attempt. Green told Piney the ill-fated Indian Panthers may have been a Trojan horse to enter the other NBL. Green says he's basing his allegations on the fact all the Panthers owners are based in Australia. "You can assume that they were doing similar things to what the Tasmanian Huskies did early on a few years ago when they entered the New Zealand NBL, and then they left and became the Tasmanian Jack Jumpers in the Australian NBL.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Panthers can return to the NBL if they meet various conditions set by the league's commission. When asked if has been asked if their catalogue of off court issues have been sorted, Batish told Mike Hosking they're 100% sorted. Forbes is particularly interested in the interactions players of different ethnicities have within the game environment, as well as those of women and girls. Her research is the basis for a book she is currently writing.   Forbes completed her Ph.D. at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. In a move that illustrates his coaching prowess, he then switched sports and was a skills coach in the Australian Football League for 3 years under the legendary Alastair Clarkson. In 2013 he returned to Basketball as the Head Coach of the Perth Wildcats and led them to 5 Championships in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020. In 2021 he moved to the NBA as an assistant with the Toronto Raptors. Trevor is the type of coach that makes the individual feel like they are contributing to something bigger than themselves, through the behaviour and attitude choices they make every day. He is unflinchingly honest and a believer in the merits of a strong work ethic to succeed both on and off the court. He is also that rare breed of coach, who has worked at the elite level in 2 different sports; and this dexterity, re-enforces his credentials as a teacher, leader and importantly; life-long learner. And in this interview you will hear him talk about being driven by curiosity to find the best treatments, ways to communicate and skills and techniques. Other key highlights include: How a close relationship with players allows him to have quick, heated conversations during the game without fear of it derailing the players performance. And that building this relationship takes time and isn't something you can short cut. How one of the major change he has seen over 30 years of coaching is that when he first started, when he told players to jump they would ask how high, whereas now they ask why. And how we believes that there should be only one ego in the team, and that is the teams collective ego. This was a terrific conversation, it was one of the first we did for the podcast, and we hope you get as much out of it as we did. Warriors fans will still have to wait until July to see an NRL game played in Auckland, despite the government's decision to allow Australians into the country early. Club chief executive Cameron George says they made a commitment to players, families and the NRL to be in Australia until the second half of the season. George says bringing games home under current red light settings would be foolish. Meanwhile The Wellington Phoenix football team say the announcement brings them a step closer to playing at home but they still need to overcome visa exemptions for international players and changes to the Covid protection framework to host crowds. And the New Zealand Breakers have committed to seeing out the National Basketball League season in Aussie.
