Brittany Pilcher, Director of Development at Quest Inc., joins Trevor to walk through exactly how her team added a Golden Ticket Raffle to WineQuest , a $500,000 two-night gala in Orlando and sold out 100 tickets in 72 hours.Brittany doesn't sugarcoat the hesitation. She talks through why she almost didn't do it, the moment she decided to pull the trigger three weeks out, and how the raffle pulled in nearly $8,000 of pure incremental revenue without adding meaningful work to her team. More importantly: she breaks down what she'd do differently next year, including running two ticket tiers and considering corporate underwriting to cover the cost upfront. In this episode: why the $100 price point is the sweet spot, when to announce the winner in your program (and when not to), how to get your board and committee actually sharing the raffle, and the part most organizations miss, the 100 new names in your database that you can steward long after the event.Chapters:00:00 Intro01:00 Introduction to the Golden Ticket02:18 Hesitations and Strategies for Ticket Sales06:01 Psychology of Ticket Sales and Winner Announcement 08:49 Impact of the Golden Ticket on Fundraising10:49 Quest Inc.: Mission and Community EngagementHave a question or topic you'd like us to cover? Normally it's a sell out by now. Festival chair John Edminstin told Mike Hosking there were early fears about an oyster shortage, but that's eased. He says unless there's a freak storm in the next couple of weeks, there'll be five boats fishing for oysters right up until the festival opening. It's been 20 years now since North Carolina started its state lottery and with only a very few exceptions, state lotteries are now an almost universal phenomenon. Interestingly, however, the rise of lotteries has coincided with the massive growth of legalized private gambling, and this has posed challenges for state officials to keep their lotteries relevant and revenue producing. Recently, to gauge how these efforts are faring, Robbie Sequeira, a reporter for the national news outlet Stateline, took a look at the state of U.S. lotteries and last week he was kind enough to join NC Newsline to share his findings.  Newsline also got a chance to ask Sequeira about another topic on which he's recently reported and found a somewhat unusual degree of bipartisanship in state government – the national shortage of affordable housing. Will the current system remain largely unchanged, or will fans actually notice a difference at checkout? Former Acting Assistant Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division Doha Mekki joins USA TODAY's The Excerpt to discuss the split over the proposed settlement in the antitrust case brought by the Biden administration's DOJ, which ultimately included more than 40 states.Let us know what you think of this episode by sending an email to podcasts@usatoday.com. Headlines sell tickets, but trust fills stadiums. We open with a frank look at WrestleMania's ticket slowdown and the plan to stage a future show in Saudi Arabia, asking the question many fans are whispering: how do you weigh spectacle against safety in a volatile moment? We keep politics off the table and focus on risk, logistics, and brand stewardship—because a global event only works if people feel confident showing up. That leads to a bigger point about what wrestling companies owe their audience: clarity, care, and a story worth the trip. Then we dig into the debut everyone's arguing about. A flashy entrance with no setup left the arena confused and hostile. We break down why a niche character like Danhausen can land big when the lore is seeded—and flop when the crowd isn't prepped. Debuts aren't just moments; they're payoffs. Without vignettes, teases, or a clear target like Dominik Mysterio framed weeks in advance, a pop becomes a question mark. We talk booking optics too: when budgets back surprises over proven workers, locker rooms notice, and morale matters. Great TV needs trust in creative and trust in each other. The mailbag takes us home with stories that show the industry's heart. Teddy shares mentors who shaped him—Harley Race, Eddie Gilbert, Kevin Sullivan, Jody Hamilton, Ricky Steamboat—and what it means to keep your head in the wrestling world while protecting your real life outside it. We make the case for a broader Hall of Fame lens that honors referees, managers, promoters, and trainers who build the ring that stars stand in. There's love for Demolition, a nod to Jazz's impact as a coach, and shoutouts to cities hungry for big shows. It's a tour through the business behind the boom: risk, respect, and the art of earning the pop.If this conversation hits your brain and your gut, tap follow, share it with a friend, and drop your take on the debut and the Saudi plan. Your voice is the final bell.Send a text

Video views were up.ROAS? 7–8x.And yet… single-game ticket sales stayed flat.In this episode, Jeremy breaks down why awareness alone doesn't create growth, the difference between monetizing demand vs. multiplying it, and how to structure your funnel so reach actually turns into repeat buyers.Key TopicsWhy a strong ROAS can still hide a growth ceilingMonetizing demand vs. multiplying demandThe 3 Ad Buckets every sports team must useWhy frequency problems get mistaken for awareness problemsThe overlooked “Game 2 Strategy”Database growth as a revenue multiplierWhy timing sales ads to 24–48 hour buying windows mattersThe Core LessonThis team didn't hit a wall. They hit a ceiling.Their ads worked. Demand exists. But their funnel wasn't engineered to move fans from awareness → intent → repeat behavior. The 3 Ad Buckets FrameworkEvery ad must live in one of three buckets:1. Audience Building - Build familiarity and retargeting pools.2. Buyer Warming - Reduce friction and drive traffic.3. Buyer Ready - Sell tickets. If every ad says “Buy Now,” none of them function like true sales ads.Platforms optimize for engagement — not wallet behavior. They'll find people who:WatchLikeCommentShareThey are not automatically optimizing for:Selecting a dateBringing a familyBuying multiple gamesThat behavior must be engineered. This team likely:Re-activated past buyersSold to an existing poolImproved efficiencyBut didn't expand the buyer base. That's a frequency problem — not an awareness problem.5 Layers That Unlock GrowthCapture Before Conversion – Own the relationship early.Retargeting Discipline – Structured audience building.Separate Content Tracks – Entertain and sell.Game 2 Strategy – Opening Day is marketing. The rest is sales.Group Data Capture – 50 tickets sold ≠ 1 contact captured.Database growth = revenue growth. The Timing Insight Most Teams MissMost single-game tickets are purchased within 24–48 hours of the game.If your conversion ads aren't strongest during that window, you're fighting buying behavior.Align your ads with when fans are ready to act.Timestamps00:00 – Massive reach, flat sales 01:16 – The 7–8x ROAS breakdown 03:30 – Monetize vs. multiply demand 05:14 – The 3 Ad Buckets 08:16 – Engagement vs. buyer behavior 12:57 – 5 growth unlocks 19:43 – Ceiling vs. wall 20:20 – Timing matters 21:52 – Self-audit questionsEpisodes mentioned:Episode 125 - “I Saw Your Ad—But Didn't Buy”: Fixing the Fan Follow-Up FunnelEpisode 111 - Building Your Marketing Budget Like a Funnel: Awareness to ActionEpisode 132 - The 35,000 Visitor Problem: Why More Traffic Can Tank Your ProfitsSports Marketing Machine on LinkedInSports Marketing Machine on InstagramBook a call with Jeremy from Sports Marketing Machine

Welcome to Episode 169 of Wrestling Tonight, powered by G FUEL and Dick Lazers. Use code TAVERN to save 20 percent at GFUEL.com and DickLazers.com. Acefield Retro and Chad are back, and this week we are pulling on threads that could reshape how you look at the entire industry. We open with the story that quietly shifted the business conversation. CNN confirmed that Warner Bros. Discovery owns a minority stake in All Elite Wrestling. Not rumor. Not speculation. Confirmed. For years, Tony Khan has emphasized that he controls one hundred percent of AEW's decision making while declining to confirm outside equity. Now a Warner Bros. Discovery outlet has acknowledged ownership outright. What does that mean for AEW's future? For media rights negotiations? For leverage and perception? And why is this confirmation being framed inside a broader cultural conversation? We break down what is confirmed, what is still unknown, and what it signals long term. From there, we move into AEW Grand Slam Australia, a show that clarified the top of the card while leaving deeper storylines open. MJF retained the AEW World Championship against Brody King. Hangman Adam Page secured number one contender status. Jon Moxley and Konosuke Takeshita went to a time limit draw. Kyle Fletcher retained the TNT Championship. Wheeler Yuta lost his hair. The direction at the top is clear. The layers underneath are still shifting. Was this a defining moment for the spring? Or a stepping stone toward something bigger? We then pivot to WWE, where the numbers tell their own story. WrestleMania 42 ticket distribution currently sits at 36,964 for Night One and 36,737 for Night Two, roughly 18 percent behind last year's pace. Allegiant Stadium is advertising a 25 percent discount. Only CM Punk versus Roman Reigns is officially locked in. Brock Lesnar still does not have a confirmed opponent. Internal discussions have reportedly included LA Knight and Oba Femi. Lesnar returns on February 23. Is the board being carefully shaped, or is urgency creeping in as sales lag? We close with the 2025 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards, where several results sparked immediate backlash. John Cena versus Cody Rhodes was voted Worst Match of the Year. Booker T was voted Worst Television Announcer. AEW Collision ranked ahead of WWE Raw and WWE SmackDown. Bryan Alvarez publicly disagreed with multiple categories. Meanwhile, Mistico won Wrestler of the Year nineteen years after his first victory, and CMLL dominated across major awards. Are these results reflective of industry consensus, vocal fan sentiment, or deeper bias within the voting pool? Episode 169 is not just about results. It is about ownership, optics, ticket momentum, creative positioning, and perception colliding at the same time.
