Haliburton’s game-winning shot occurred after Zach LaVine missed a free throw that would have given the Bulls the lead with 22.6 second left. LaVine, who scored a game-high 42 points, was fouled on a 3-point attempt by Bennedict Mathurin and converted the first two free throw tries. After Haliburton’s 3-pointer, a game-tying shot attempt by Nikola Vucevic bounced off the rim. Mathurin added 17 points for the Pacers (29-36), while DeMar DeRozan scored 23 for the Bulls. In a statement, the commissioner’s office says its investigation included interviews of more than 15 people, including Clevinger and a woman who said she is the mother of Clevinger’s child, as well as thousands of electronic communications and other documents. Clevinger has voluntarily agreed to submit to evaluations by the joint treatment boards under the CBA and to follow any recommendations. Tennis – Djokovic withdraws after failed bid to play Indian Wells Top-ranked Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the upcoming BNP Paribas Open after losing his bid to enter the United States unvaccinated to play in the Southern California event. Play in the combined ATP-WTA event begins Wednesday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden and runs through March 19. Djokovic had requested a vaccine waiver to enter the U.S., but Homeland Security denied it. The U.S. is ending its COVID-19 emergency declaration on May 11, which is too late for Djokovic to play at Indian Wells and Miami. EPL – Biggest loss in 90 years for Man U in 7-0 rout at Liverpool Liverpool has brought Manchester United crashing down to earth with a stunning 7-0 rout in the Premier League at Anfield. It was United’s worst competitive defeat in more than 90 years. Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah struck twice and Roberto Firmino scored the other with six of the goals coming in an explosive second-half performance. The score also eclipsed Liverpool’s previous best victory against United, which was a 7-1 win in 1895. Liverpool took advantage of losses for top four rivals Newcastle and Tottenham on Saturday to strengthen its own bid to qualify for the Champions League. Golf – PGA – Kurt Kitayama breaks through in wild finish at Bay Hill Kurt Kitayama kept finishing one shot behind the game’s best players. He beat them all at Bay Hill on Sunday for his first PGA Tour victory. Kitayama made a triple bogey on the ninth hole to let everyone back into the Arnold Palmer Invitational. And then he beat them with a clutch birdie putt on the 17th hole, and a 50-foot lag putt to an inch for par on the 18th. He finished with a 72 and a one-shot win over Rory McIlroy and Harris English. Jordan Spieth, defending champion Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay and Tyrrell Hatton were two behind. NASCAR – William Byron wins at Las Vegas as Hendrick dominates William Byron took the lead on the second-to-last lap of overtime to win the NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas and put an exclamation mark on a dominant day for Hendrick Motorsports. The top three drivers were from Hendrick, with Byron beating teammates Kyle Larson and Alex Bowman. Bowman won last year’s March race at Las Vegas. This is Byron’s fifth career victory in his six seasons. He led 176 laps and won both stages. IndyCar – Marcus Ericsson wins rough IndyCar season-opening race Marcus Ericsson outlasted the carnage on the downtown streets of St. Petersburg for a surprise victory for Chip Ganassi Racing. It was the fourth career IndyCar victory for the Swedish former Formula One driver. But it was a messy opener in which Jack Harvey was taken to a hospital for observation. Helio Castroneves needed an ice pack and X-rays. A pair of cars went airborne, the leaders crashed each other and the entire Andretti Autosport fleet was eliminated. EP 59: "Are Teams Shooting Too Many Threes in the NBA? & The Knicks Continue to Struggle!"12/9/2018NBA TALK-- The Chicago Bulls recently fired former Bulls Head Coach Fred Hoiberg. The Bulls had lost 11 of their previous 12 games and they had a 5-19 start! Hoiberg NBA coaching record was115-155! - In other Chicago Bulls news, Lauri Marrkhanen finally returned from an elbow injury (which caused him to miss the first 23 games of the season). Marrkhanen led the Bulls to a much-needed win with 24 points and the game winning basket over the Thunder in a 114-112 win, which also the new Bulls Head Coach Jim Boylen’s home debut! Unfortunately, they followed that win with an epic loss to the Celtics 133-77! - A three-team NBA trade recently took place. The Milwaukee Bucks acquired point guard George Hill from Cleveland, and forward Jason Smith and a 2021 second-round pick from Washington.- The Cavs received Matthew Dellavedova and center John Henson, along with 2021 first-and second-round draft picks from Milwaukee.- The Wizards acquired Sam Dekker from Cleveland via Milwaukee and swapped second round draft picks with Cleveland, with the Cavs sending the Wizards’ 2021 first round lottery protected pick and may not convey until 2024, back to Washington for the Wizards’ 2022 selection. - This deal could also potentially save the Bucks about $19 million dollars next season if they choose not to keep Hill (only $1 million guaranteed).FAST BREAK-- Masai Ujiri, Toronto Raptors President of Operations in a recent two-day celebration of his Giants of Africa basketball program, Masai Ujiri stated and I quote, “I’m confident to say there are 10 Embiids walking around, there are 10 whosevers walking around in Africa.” Africa’s current population is presently estimated between 1.2 billion and 1.3 billion, with the median age being 19.4 years according to worldmeters.info. Is Ujiri being somewhat disrespectful or is he just being truthful? OPEN COURT-- Danny D, asks the guys about their opinions about Giannis Antetokunmpo avoiding workouts with other NBA stars: I don't 'buddy-buddy' with my opponents. KNICKS WEEKLY ROUND-UP-- The Knicks recently lost 3 in a row! The Knicks current record is 8-19! And they are currently 12th in the Eastern Conference!- The guys review the Knicks loss to the Wizards 110-107. - The Knicks followed that loss by going “back to back,” losing to the Boston Celtics 128-100. - Lastly, last night the Knicks loss to the Brooklyn Nets 112-104.- Win/ loss predictions for the Knicks this upcoming week: (i.e. Hornets, Cavs, Hornets). BEHIND THE SCENES- - Flau breaks down the Westchester Knicks recent loss to the Oklahoma City Blue 107-102 in the NBA G League! HOT TOPIC- - Gregg Popovich recently lamented the currently aesthetics in the NBA. “There’s no basketball anymore, there’s no beauty in it,” he said. “These days there’s such an emphasis on the three because it’s proven to be analytically correct.”- Also, Shaq recently gave the “Superman” moniker to Giannis Antetokounmpo because he plays through the post and even went on to say, “He does what a lot of big guys need to do, take their big as*, down in the paint.”- Therefore, the guys discuss should NBA teams continue to chase the 3-point shot as whole, or should certain teams like the current Philadelphia 76ers (Embid recently complained about having to play near the 3-point line, since they acquired Jimmy Butler, in order to make more spacing.) go back to playing through the post like a lot of teams did in the 1990’s teams such as the Houston Rockets with Hakeem Olajuwon, the Indiana Pacers with Rick Smits, and even our own New York Knicks with Patrick Ewing), or is it too late and this “style of play” has already been permanently phased out of the NBA?{New York Skyline.jpg) C.
