Send us a textBig thanks to our guest Joe Simpson for coming on the pod and saying his journey.Joe says "I've always been active and involved in sport from a young age, thanks to a very supportive family who always tried to give me and my brother the best opportunities to be successful. I grew up in York and swam often when I could doing well in local events at the pool that we swam at. I've ridden bikes from a young age and can remember seeing videos of me running at small events when my Dad was doing 10K's on the same day. However, the sport of football and later cricket were around and when we left York to where my parents are now still near Malton, I joined local teams and the swimming especially stopped.I did a charity triathlon which was very small and low key around 2008 I think. I enjoyed that, but never really carried on with it after, something I wish I had. We had Dalby Forest on our doorstep and could mountain bike there loads. Still did the occasional low key run event, Bramham Park was a particular favourite. Moving forwards a few years to 2017, I was at uni in Leeds and the sport of triathlon was starting to become a bit more of a thing. I remember watching the World series in Leeds the year before and my Dad saying 'why are we not there'. I was at Leeds Beckett and had seen plenty of the GB team around so I looked into the 2017 race and entered the go tri and haven't looked back since. I got hooked and did other local races around the North Yorkshire area and minus the covid year, always did the Leeds weekend with my mum and dad, it's such a shame that it got moved from there. I enjoyed seeing my times improving, parkrun also has helped so much with this. Two events at Leeds really made me think hmm I like this were in 2019 and 2022. I won my age group in the 2019 race and was 4th in the Yorkshire champs in 2022. In 2019 I first heard the words 'GB age group' and can remember over taking plenty of GB suits along the way. I had a few personal challenges that year and really doubted my self in my work life and relationship life so this race was a good distraction. The 2022 event I was now involved with Craven energy (CE) tri club in Skipton where I am still now and having a great time. I would have been Yorkshire champion that year or at least top 3, but my bike seat fell off and that lost me the 10 minutes I finished behind the winner with. That year the head coach at CE really spoke loads to me about age group racing. I did a few qualifiers in triathlon but never got anywhere. I was going to try again in 2023 at Leeds but then it was taken to Sunderland, I didn't go. I tried duathlon, as by then my run for 5K had come down from 26.30- sub 19, it's now 17:55 and I'm aiming to break 17:30 by the end of the year. I went to Darley Moor in 2023 and qualified on a roll down slot for Portugal 2024. That was my proudest sporting moment and along with graduation, proudest life moment. My parents and girlfriend made it into a nice trip and I certainly enjoyed the experience. I've never come from a rich family, I've just got parents who have worked hard but not just given me and my brother things without us working for them, especially now. The cost of GB racing is a lot so I make sure I work around it all well with my work as an outdoor instructor. I'm around great people and really am looking forward to the euros next year in 2026 wherever they may be, just need the final conformation now. My main goal in this sport is to try take it as far as I can. I'm enjoying the process very much and seeing my running times now down where they are shows me that my hard work is working."Good luck to Joe in the future you can follow his journey on Instagram @joed_simpsonYou Can Follow us onYouTube - AMP GBInstagram @amp_1967Facebook :

Today's guest is the MP for Thirsk & Malton and currently also shadow secretary of state for levelling up, housing and communities.Prior to becoming an MP in 2015, he has spent a career in the property industry starting in 1980's and then founding Hunters in 1992, which is now one of the most successful and fastest-growing estate agencies in the UK.Hunters have over 200 branches nationwide including 30 in Greater London with gross turnover in excess of £40m and approximately 1000 people employed throughout the network. In this brilliant conversation, we discussed the importance of lead generation, mindset, building systems, plus the relationship between politics and the property market. This was a very inspiring and motivating episode, one of which was full of really solid and practical advice to make better estate agents and business owners. You certainly do not want to miss this one!
The Tenant Farmers Association says the Government's decision to allow a solar project on farmland in Yorkshire is 'crushing' for farmers who rent land. Harmony Energy can now build a solar farm with battery storage on land owned by the Fitzwilliam Trust near Malton. The tenant farmers who currently farm there have campaigned for the past four years to halt the project.Fishing is facing a shortage of workers – fewer people are coming from the European Union to work, and many older fishermen who retire aren't being replaced. At South Devon College they're hoping to attract new recruits to the industry - we go to event in collaboration with the charity the Fishermen's Mission, where the older generation of fishermen met those just starting out or considering a career at sea. And we hear from the Agricultural Supply Chain Adjudicator. Farmers have long had concerns about the way supply chains work, saying they shoulder too much of the risk, and don't reap enough of the rewards. To help, an Agricultural Supply Chain Adjudicator has been appointed - in the first instance to enforce new rules aimed at improving transparency and fairness in the dairy sector. Similar regulations to cover pigs are expected this spring and then the plan is to look at eggs and fresh produce.Presented by Charlotte Smith Produced by Heather Simons

Check out a secret "icebreaker" interview with Jackie at patreon.com/hkpodcasts. In this conversation, Jackie Malton shares her experiences working in prisons and her insights into the psychology of criminals, particularly focusing on masculinity, addiction, and the impact of childhood trauma. She discusses her interviews with a serial killer and the complexities of rehabilitation, self-discovery, and the importance of storytelling in understanding human behaviour. Malton emphasizes the need for self-reflection and the role of mentorship in personal growth, while also addressing the challenges faced by individuals in the prison system. Jackie and Hugh also discuss various aspects of policing in London, emphasizing the need for geographical restructuring, rebuilding public trust, and understanding gang culture. She explores the role of direct entry in policing, the challenges faced by officers, and the importance of rehabilitation in prisons. --- Jackie Malton is a UK-based television script consultant and former senior police officer. Born in 1951, she made history as one of the first openly gay women to rise through the ranks of the Metropolitan Police Service. Malton's remarkable career spanned multiple areas, including the Flying Squad, Murder Squad, and Fraud Squad. Malton is perhaps most famous for being the inspiration behind the iconic character DCI Jane Tennison in Lynda La Plante's Prime Suspect drama series. Her experiences as a woman detective in a male-dominated establishment, combined with her bravery in speaking out against police corruption in the 1980s, made her a compelling figure for La Plante's character.

Her mum described Claudias mood as normal and relaxed. During the call they discussed celebrating Mother's Day, which was only 4 days away. Claudia told her mother she was at home and that she was planning on getting an early night because she had to get up before 5am next day to walk to work because her car was being repaired, hence why she'd walked home that day. She sent a final text message from her mobile phone at 8:23 pm and a final incoming text was received at 9:12 pm. Jackie Malton was a no-nonsense girl from Leicestershire who joined the police force in the 1970s when women were kept apart from the men. Feisty and determined, Jackie worked in CID and the famous flying squad before rising to become one of only three female detective chief inspectors in the Metropolitan Police. In The Real Prime Suspect, Malton describes the struggles she faced as a gay woman in the Metropolitan Police, where sexism and homophobia were rife. She is joined by former Detective Chief Superintendent Sue Clarke. Both women, cut from the same cloth but from different generations. They compare their own experiences of policing. Often funny, sometimes sad but never with regret.

Yorkshire County is in the heart of England's game country and food culture. It was only fitting that I went back to school and learned about proper British game bird cookery. Who better to learn from than Yorkshire's Food and Drink Ambassador, Gilly Robinson. She runs The Cook's Place in Malton, a school that informs, educates, and entertains in all manners of cooking. After cooking, we sat down for a quick chat and absorbed as much as I could during her full-day "feathered" class. We talk about game, butchery, and respecting ingredients. I also got the answer to the age-old question of how you are supposed to pronounce "Worcestershire" sauce. It's an episode you won't want to miss! Learn more about your ad choices. Claudia Lawrence was born in Malton, North Yorkshire in 1974. While her parents were both in the law field, after her early education she went to a local catering college where she qualified as a chef. After working at hotels and restaurants in York, she eventually settled at Goodricke College in the University of York in 2006. While she never had any serious relationships, she did have a very vibrant social life and was quite close with her parents too. Everything was looking great for her, up until Thursday March 19th when she didn't show up to her 6am shift.. or drinks with her friend after… or anything after that either. To this date, we don't know what happened to Claudia Lawrence, but we can only hope that her family will one day find closure about what happened to her. Stay safe out there. Faith Malton is a natural-born engineer. She was born missing her right arm and thus, grew up problem-solving and adapting to her environment through innovation. More importantly, she engineered her mental aptitude and psyche to be rooted in a growth mindset. A student ambassador, she found herself inquisitive on how other cultures worked and how culture determines the perception of disability. Her curiosity led her to places like Antarctica, India, and Tanzania. Every trip was an awakening and revealed to her how the built environment shapes the way in which humans experience the world. She now works at Walter P. Moore, an international civil engineering firm, doing site design. She believes design teams have a responsibility for their designs to be universally accessible, inspire the human spirit, and nurture a connection to the natural world.Malton also works to help others break through mental barriers and navigate the world with limb differences through her YouTube channel, One Arm Wonder.Resources:YouTube: One Arm WonderInstagram: @theonearmwonderrrTEDx Talk: From Victim to Creator
