Brooklyn New York's Barclays Center is set to host a landmark moment in dancehall history as Vybz Kartel headlines Reggae Fest on April 11 and 12, marking his first return concert in the United States in 20 years. The event, led by prominent promoter CJ Milan, has already generated significant momentum, with tickets selling out rapidly upon release.Milan, who secured Kartel as the first solo headliner for Reggaefest, a party event that started in Manhattan and now travels across the U.S., opens up about the significance of the booking. “Usually, I like to put something for everybody, but Kartel is a generational (artist). You can rock out with him.”The journey to finalizing the show started with Milan's ambition and he record of staging successful reggae events in New York City. “First of all, nobody could get in contact with Kartel,” Milan revealed in an exclusive interview with World Music Views. “I called every manager, and then I got frustrated. When I get frustrated, I do it myself.”Taking matters into her own hands, Milan connected with veteran dancehall producer Skatta Burrell, who is also Kartel's road manager, a move that expedited the process. “It went really fast,” she said. “Then a couple of people (from Kartel's team) came down for Massive.”She recalled a pivotal moment in negotiations when producer TJ Records sought clarity on logistics. “TJ was asking me questions about certain things and said, ‘How soon can you get to Jamaica?' I said I need three days.”Determined to present a compelling case, Milan went to the studio, curated a Kartel mix, and synchronized it with footage from her last Barclays Center show, crafting a persuasive presentation.

Strap in and try to keep up, as we attempt to follow the peripatetic 58-year journey of one of the NBA's most wandering franchises - with New York-area sports beat reporter Rick Laughland ("A History of the Nets: From Teaneck to Brooklyn"). Today's Brooklyn Nets club began its life in 1967 as the New Jersey Americans - a charter member of the American Basketball Association, playing at the Teaneck Armory. A year later, they moved to Long Island (LI Arena, then Island Garden, then Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum) to become the New York Nets, winning two ABA championships (1974, 1976) behind superstar Julius Erving. Absorbed into the NBA in 1976, the team struggled financially and was forced to sell Erving, leading to early-season struggles. In 1977, they relocated to the Garden State as the New Jersey Nets, playing at Rutgers Athletic Center (now Jersey Mike's Arena) before moving to Brendan Byrne (aka Meadowlands) Arena in 1981. After almost becoming the "Swamp Dragons" in 1994, the early 2000s saw breakthrough success with Jason Kidd, Kenyon Martin, and Richard Jefferson - making back-to-back NBA Finals runs in 2002 and 2003. Before a brief move to Newark's Prudential Center (2010–12), the team relocated to Brooklyn's purpose-built Barclays Center, with a complete franchise name, logo and color-scheme rebrand. Initially building around Deron Williams, they later pursued star power with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, followed by Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden in 2019–2021. Still bereft of an elusive NBA title, will the Nets continue to ply their trade in Brooklyn - or will they eventually return to their nomadic ways? + + + SUPPORT THE SHOW: Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable "Good Seats" Merch: https://www.teepublic.com/?ref_id=35106 SPONSOR THANKS (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): Old School Shirts.com (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS) https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats Royal Retros (10% off promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 BUY THE BOOK (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): " A History of the Nets: From Teaneck to Brooklyn": https://amzn.to/41oxSev FIND AND FOLLOW: Website: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/goodseatsstillavailable.com X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable Threads: https://www.threads.net/@goodseatsstillavailable Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/

After a great come from behind win in Boston on Friday night and in the middle of a ten game winning streak, are they the team to beat in the entire league? What kind of pressure have they put on themselves? I'll unpack that, as well as, the Suns continue to fade out West. The Lakers are a two seed! How dangerous are they? Will Joel Embiid come back next year close to his MVP form? Steph's 56. Pop won't come back (this year) and much more as the Association has plenty to offer in early March. (33:52) The Madness won't begin just yet, but with March here, we're anticipating a huge month in college basketball. Tennessee tops Alabama at the buzzer the other day, but St. John's is the more fascinating story at the moment. They won the Big East Regular Season title for the first time in 40 years, which was the last time they went to a Final Four. Can they repeat what took place four decades ago this time around? (41:33) Friday will be the NHL's trade deadline. The Panthers and Rangers have made moves. Which other teams will wheel and deal before the end of the week? Alex Ovechkin is now ten goals away from climbing Mt. Gretzky and another goal was score by a netminder as Islanders Ilya Sorokin is the latest to do so. (53:41) MLB commish Rob Manfred has to decide whether or not to lift the lifetime ban on Pete Rose. Is it finally time? Also, the Yankees have had a couple of rough days as pitcher Luis Gil may need an MRI on his throwing shoulder, Giancarlo Stanton will miss the start of the season with elbow inflammation and DJ LeMahieu had to leave a game due to a calf injury. (59:07) With the salary cap in the NFL going up, what will Deebo Samuel get as he was traded to Washington for a 5th round pick. Is this a high risk, high reward deal for the Commanders? Matthew Stafford stays in LA. The Giants are flirting with Aaron Rodgers? And Myles Garrett will not sign an extension in Cleveland. What will they do with him and their second overall selection? (1:05:25) Boxing had another bad look to their sport as Gervonta ‘Tank' Davis and Lamont Roach Jr. bout ends up in a draw due to a controversial non KO call by the ref which left the crowd at Barclays Center in Brooklyn shocked. It's a brand new edition of our recap show with only one significant fight card world wide. So, that leaves our host T.J. Rives and insider Dan Rafael with more time to discuss news and some excellent boxing and even, 80s U.S. Primetime TV drama debate! It's all on the "Fight Freaks Unite Recap Podcast!"They begin with the brief Recap of Boxxer card from Sheffield, England, where super middleweight Callum Simpson scored a dubious TKO over Steed Woodall in the second round and retains British/Commonwealth 168 lb. titles. T.J. takes the lead on the referee with a reference to another premature stoppage in a prominent fight in London last Fall. Also, lightweight Caroline Dubois got a technical draw at the start of the 3rd round against an already battered Jessica Camara. Dubois retains WBC women's crown, but there's debate on should this one have been an actual stoppage on the badly swollen eye from punches that had nothing to do with the cut on the other eye. For fight news:Sam Goodman is again cut in same spot over his eye and out of the January 24 Nayoa Inoue undisputed 122 lb. fight. Inoue will instead defend the undisputed junior featherweight title vs. late sub Ye Joon Kim of South Korea. We have more on him.Dan is reporting that the target date for WBC/WBO junior middleweight titlist Sebastian Fundora vs. former three-belt unified welterweight titlist Errol Spence Jr. is March 29 at MGM Grand. T.J. wonders.... well.... you know! With Teofimo Lopez inactive, no fight scheduled, as he turned down several fights from Top Rank, the WBO has upgraded Jack Catterall-Arnold Barboza Jr. final junior welterweight eliminator to the vacant interim title bout on Feb.15th.And, the IBF welterweight titlist Jaron “Boots” Ennis and WBA counterpart Eimantas Stanionis are in talks for a unification fight. Per WBA president Gilberto Mendoza, Stanionis mandatory challenger Shakhram Giyasov has agreed to step aside. Finally some nostalgia: January 14, 2017 – 8 years ago this Tuesday – James DeGale and Badou Jack fight to a majority draw in an epic super middleweight unification fight and in the co-feature sees Gervonta Davis TKO7 then-unbeaten Jose Pedraza to win the IBF junior lightweight title, Davis' first world title. Dan was ringside at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY for this. And, we salute heavyweight hall of famers George Foreman, who turned 76 on Friday and the late Joe Frazier would have turned 81 on Sunday. And, the boys debate some 1980's American TV dramas between "Dallas," 'Dynasty," and "Miami Vice." It's worthwile to stick around for!Hear it all on the "Fight Freaks Unite Recap Podcast" and make sure to rate and review us on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.!

And, the boys debate some 1980's American TV dramas between "Dallas," 'Dynasty," and "Miami Vice." The Magic swept their two-game weekend series in Brooklyn. Pops was at the win on Sunday inside Barclays Center against the Nets. Franz Wagner is not only a strong favorite to be named an NBA All-Star for the first time, but he's playing at an All-NBA level with Paolo Banchero out. Orlando is 15-7, still third place in the East, winners of six consecutive games and 12 of the team's last thirteen contests. The Magic are the hottest team in the NBA, and are also 3-0 in NBA Cup East Group A play with a big fourth and final group decider occurring Tuesday inside Madison Square Garden against a very challenging New York Knicks opponent. The Knicks have to win or they're eliminated from the cup. If by chance you hear snoring in the background, that would be Argos the tired goldendoodle. He's enjoying the cold northeast weather. All of that and more! #LetsGoMagic Warning: Adult Language

Ep.222 José Parlá (b.1973) creates paintings and multidisciplinary works based on his interest in hybrid forms of abstraction. He draws inspiration from various mediums including music, calligraphy, dance, and the decay of urban architecture and advertisements. His works poetically challenge ideas about language, politics, identity, and how we define places and spaces. Parlá's relationship with mark-making is physical and textural, incorporating the body's gestures into a painterly stream of consciousness composed of areas of addition, erasure, and layering that challenge the status quo of visual culture. Parlá was born to Cuban parents in Miami, Florida, and lives and works out of Brooklyn, New York. He studied painting at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) in Savannah, Georgia; the New World School of the Arts, Miami, Florida; and Miami Dade College, Miami, Florida. Solo exhibitions of Parlá's work have been organized at institutions such as The Bronx Museum, New York (2022); Gana Art Center, Seoul (2022); Istanbul'74, Istanbul (2019); Hong Kong Contemporary Art (HOCA) Foundation, Hong Kong (2019); Neuberger Museum of Art, New York (2018); SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah (2017); Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), New York (2017); Goss-Michael Foundation, Dallas (2016); High Museum of Art, Atlanta (2015); amongst others. WNBA's New York Liberty is having a moment. It just finished the regular season last Thursday with the best record in the league, defeating top teams like the Las Vegas Aces and the Connecticut Sun. Meanwhile, the team's mascot Ellie the Elephant has become a celebrity in her own right, known for her dance moves and fashion. But it hasn't always been that way. Five years ago, the team was struggling, playing in Westchester County Center, a smaller court far away from home. But then things started looking up. Joe Tsai, co-founder of Alibaba and owner of NBA's the Brooklyn Nets, purchased the Liberty and paved the path for the eventual move to the team's current home at the Barclays Center. Then in 2021, Shana Stephenson started as the team's full-time chief brand officer. In this episode of the Digiday Podcast, Stephenson talks about what it was like building the team's brand, how Liberty is tapping into the women's sports hype and, of course, Ellie the Elephant's viral videos.
