Dr Hillary Lampers is a Naturopathic doctor based in Boseman, Montana; with a small clientele in Snohomish, Washington. She is married to Ryan Lampers and they have two daughters. Ryan and Hillary have a great podcast which I listen to called Hunt Harvest Health. One of my favorite episodes of their show is the show where Hillary reads a blog post of hers called My Husband’s Mistress. The premise of the blog is her dealing with the absence of her husband during long bowhunting trips. Ultimately, she comes to grips with the fact that he is doing something positive for both him and their family. My first question is - How can backpackers get Vitamin “I” out of their packs? She recommends some herbs for inflammationor muscle skeletal problems like Turmeric and Boswellia. She is very pro CBD which can fix a swelling issue over time. Ibuprofen or Aspirin can give the body a quick coverup, but will never fix the issue. Hillary relates CBD to a food. People, who have an inflammation issue, should use a CBD daily in order toDiet before and during a backpacking trip is another great way to help with inflammation. Cutting out sugar will help tremendously. “Create a plentiful plant diet with adequate protein and lots of good fats,” she tells us. Fats can help with inflammation so eat plenty of extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, avocado, and a good Omega 3 source like Krill or fish oil.How Often should people use CBD in order for it to help?Matt Kleman was on the Hunt Harvest Health Podcast episode 74 talking about the medicinal benefits of Cannabis. He recommends you use CBD like a food, daily, in order to fill your receptors and give your body what it needs. Once your body gets enough, you will not need to take as much.So CBD will need to be taken a month or two before you have a big hike or backpacking trip in order to assure you body will be ready for the inflammation.Be on the lookout for Kleman’s CBD on http://huntharvesthealth.com where they will be selling a THC FREE CBD.What are your tips for making a green drink to use on the trail? Most of the green drinks made to mix with water on the market toady are freeze-dried. The best way to make your own would be to create a powder after dehydrating using a blender. You still need to choose the right mix for yourself. It is important that you enjoy what you ingest. Most greens are bitter, so keep that in mind.Other meals can easily be procured with a dehydrator. Kevlar bags are what her husband uses on the trail to rehydrate the meals in the bag. What do you think about using kinesio tape?Dr Hillary Lampers has used the tape herself and thinks it helps a lot. It will give pressure and security to the area and allows the muscles to work better.Hikers may have a few places they might want to use kinesiology tape. The shoulders, hips, knees and ankles are all easy places to use the tape.Do you have any ideas for foot pain while hiking?Every person is so different, so this was a hard question to answer vaguely. Understand your own feet and how the flexibility and bones work for your style of walking. What happens to your center of gravity when you have a pack on your back. Shoes are made as on boot or shoe and they are not set up for multiple people’s issues. Keep your feet dry and aired out for best case scenario.Website- http://huntharvesthealth.comInstagram- https://www.instagram.com/huntharvesthealth/Sthealthy Hunter- https://www.instagram.com/sthealthyhunter/Six Moons DesignTents and morehttps://www.sixmoondesigns.comWaymark Gear CompanyHeavy duty ultralight backpackshttps://www.waymarkgearco.com
Today on Gritty I am joined by my good friend Ryan Lampers, aka sthealthy hunter AND owner, host, and cohost of the Hunt Harvest Health Podcast. Ryan is a modest, quiet guy who kills mature old animals on public land hunts across the West. Today on Gritty, Ryan shares some of his tactics for elk hunting. I feel like Ryan is a treasure box of useful information just waiting to be opened. Today on Gritty we pluck a few gold nuggets out of his treasure box and the information is worth its weight in gold. I hope Ryan’s stories and tactics help you on your next elk hunt--I know I’ll be putting a few of his strategies to use next season.

On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we meet with Ryan and Hillary Lampers of Hunt, Harvest, Health. So… about a month back--Aron Snyder hit the big 4-0. And I’m well on my way to 43. We’re not exactly old, but we’re not spring chickens either. We’re fit for two older guys--in fact, we’re in better shape now than we were in our early 30s--and we’re pretty happy about that. But father-time isn’t backing down and it’s more important than ever to live well--both physically and emotionally. And that’s why I’m pleased to have Doctor Hillary Lampers and my good buddy Ryan Lampers, aka Donnie Vincent Lampers, on today’s episode of Gritty Bowmen. Ryan is an absolute stud when it comes to bowhunting public lands. And his wife Hillary is a doctor--but not your regular, everyday, run of the mill doctor that I generally mistrust except in the case of dire emergencies; Hillary is the kind of doctor that actually treats root causes of physical distress instead of simply prescribing drugs to treat symptoms. Hillary and Ryan started a podcast this past December called Hunt Harvest Health--and I’m so glad they did! I’ve been listening to their podcasts on backcountry meal prep, gardening, testosterone, cortisol and other hormones, gut health and the second brain, hunting and more. This past year has been a whirlwind of life-changing events for me. Admittedly, I’m not as fit or feeling quite as froggy as I did a year ago. If you’ve got little kids around while you’re listening to this podcast, you may want to revisit this episode when they’re not around. This is a talk about health--it’s not time to be squeamish. We talk about things like poop, S.E.X., how to increase testosterone, love languages, etc. You’ve been warned. Some of you may be thinking that this “health stuff” is boring or that this medical talk is way too complex--but it’s really not--and I truly believe it is life-changing information. So I encourage you to buck-up and take notes. And when you’re done with this podcast, go subscribe to the HUNT HARVEST HEALTH PODCAST and continue learning how to feed your Temple of Power.
