Welcome to another episode of Fratello On Air! This week, we talk about how hype can help or hurt brands. Naturally, there are plenty of other topics on the docket, including television, German culture, and more!Hype is a funny thing. Nearly everyone or every company wants it, but at some point, enough can be enough. From one-hit wonders to oversaturation, there is no shortage of examples of when a once-popular topic becomes played out or hackneyed. While we aren't here to predict which brands could fall prey to such a situation, we do talk about some models and strategies that are working well or flying very close to the sun.HandgelenkskontrolleWe kick off our episode regarding hype with an interesting chat about German garden houses, known as Schrebergartens or Kleingartens. These little huts are an interesting sight for foreigners who often wonder if they are looking at a strange encampment. This discussion is connected to a chat on lawn art, including gnomes and orbs. For television, Mike has been watching Ponies on Sky, and Balazs just finished the Man on Fire series. Regarding the Handgelenkskontrolle, Mike continues his Heuer love with the chocolaty Camaro 7220 NT. Balazs has brought back a fan favorite with the Omega Speedmaster Professional Speedy Tuesday 1.Hype and its effects on brandsWe kick off our discussion about hype and its potential effects on different companies with a brief tale about the luggage brand, Rimowa. It seems that unscrupulous sellers are now hawking counterfeit versions of the well-known aluminum suitcases. This raises a fundamental question: whether a brand begins to lose its luster when the hype is so large that fakes begin to appear. The answer is complex and inconsistent. Or what happens when a brand suddenly goes after a new set of buyers, which can turn off its traditional core fans? We pose these questions around Rolex, Omega, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, Tudor, Grand Seiko, Ming, Panerai, and more. Brands such as Porsche and Ferrari also make an entrance. Of course, our thoughts differ depending on the situation, what the brand is trying to achieve, and how they behave when a person enters a store. Listen in and provide your thoughts. We hope you enjoyed today's episode, and we look forward to bringing you more! As always, let us know if you have future topic ideas, and thank you for listening.

Discover why hormones are off and what's really driving the imbalance. In this episode, we break down five root causes — from gut dysfunction and disrupted sleep to chronic stress, appetite dysregulation, and omega-3 deficiency — and walk through what you can actually do to fix it. FEATURED PRODUCT Berberine is a powerful botanical compound that acts as a natural GLP-1 supporter — the same metabolic pathway targeted by medications like Ozempic — helping regulate blood sugar, reduce insulin resistance, and restore appetite signaling from the gut. Since metabolic hormones like insulin and leptin are the first to derail your entire hormone cascade, Berberine directly addresses one of the deepest root causes discussed in this episode. It also supports gut microbiome diversity, making it a foundational tool for anyone working to reclaim hormonal balance naturally.

Send us Fan MailRevelation starts in a place most of us would never choose: exile. We talk through why John is on Patmos, what that suffering says about the early church, and why it matters for anyone trying to understand biblical prophecy without turning it into a fear machine. When you remember the persecution, the martyrdom, and the cost of following Jesus, “tribulation” stops sounding like a future headline and starts sounding like the normal terrain of Christian endurance. From there, we slow down on the opening vision where Jesus identifies Himself as the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last. We explore what that claim means for God's providence, for history, and for the comfort Revelation is meant to give. We also discuss the seven churches of Asia, not only as real congregations receiving a real book, but as a picture of the full church across the ages with all our strengths, compromises, suffering, and need for repentance. Then we tackle a tough question that cuts through a lot of end-times charts: if Revelation is addressed to the church, how can it be mainly for a time when the church is supposedly raptured away? We follow the logic into the implications people often skip, including what happens to the Holy Spirit, gospel preaching, and conversion if the church is removed. If you've ever felt anxious about the rapture, the great tribulation, or the “left behind” storyline, this conversation is an invitation to re-read Revelation with Christ at the center. Send us Fan MailRevelation has been sold as a scary code book for decades, but we're convinced it reads very differently when we let the text lead. We pick up in Revelation 1:9-10 and keep the spotlight where Scripture puts it: on Jesus Christ as Alpha and Omega, the Almighty, present with His churches. That single shift changes everything, because the goal isn't to satisfy curiosity about end-times trivia. The goal is to strengthen worship and endurance through the testimony of Jesus Christ. John writes from the Isle of Patmos as a “brother and companion in tribulation,” and we slow down long enough to feel the weight of that phrase. Tribulation, kingdom, and patience are not separate lanes; they describe ordinary Christian life in a hostile world where believers still belong to Christ's reign and must endure with steadfast hope. We also confront popular dispensational assumptions about a future seven-year tribulation and ask a simple question: how can tribulation be purely future if John shares it with the saints in his own day? From there we look at Patmos as both exile and commission, and we talk about what it means that John is “in the Spirit on the Lord's day.” This revelation is not human imagination, not a dream, and not an invitation to mystical speculation, code-cracking, or timeline charts. The trumpet-like voice signals authority, summons, and judgment and it calls the church to hear its King. If Revelation has ever made you anxious, this conversation is meant to steady you. Subscribe for more Revelation teaching, share this with a friend who avoids the book, and leave a review if this helped you read with clarity and hope.Support the showBE PROVOKED AND BE PERSUADED!
Who is Jesus, really? In this message, Wayne Pederson takes a close look at the life and identity of Christ, drawing from the Gospel of John and Colossians 1. He traces three categories of people Jesus consistently stopped for: the downcast, the outcast, and the sinner. From the woman who touched the hem of his garment, to the widow who lost her only son, to the Samaritan woman at the well, Jesus showed up for people the world had written off. And the invitation he extended then is still open today.Wayne also walks through the many names and titles given to Jesus in scripture, explaining what each one means and what it reveals about his character. "Jesus" means God saves. "Christ" means the anointed one. He is the Good Shepherd, the Bread of Life, the Prince of Peace, the Alpha and the Omega. As Wayne puts it, after everything that happens in our churches, our theology, our programs, and our lives, "after all, it's all about Jesus." If you have ever wondered whether Jesus would show up for someone like you, this message is worth your time.
Sermon Outline: "On My Father's Side" Preacher: Pastor Lemuel Miller (Guest Speaker / Advisory Board Member) Location: Church of the Harvest I. Introduction: The Temple and the Root Causes of Sickness The Caleb Spirit: At nearly 74 years old, Pastor Lemuel shares his experience winning a silver medal at the national arm wrestling championship, emphasizing that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). We must actively care for our physical templates so that the Holy Ghost is not "living in a garage or a shed." Commanding Prayers vs. Begging: In his book Prayers for Healing, Pastor Lemuel explains that many believers stay in ignorance, begging God for things He has already accomplished. Spiritual maturity requires switching from begging prayers to authoritative, commanding prayers. Uprooting Sickness: True physical restoration requires looking past the surface pain and identifying the structural root causes of diseases. Migraine Headaches: Often rooted in trauma and bitterness. Kidney Disease: Rooted in deep unforgiveness, bitterness, fear, and self-rejection. Leukemia: Often linked to bitterness and paternal rejection. Lupus: Can stem from deep-seated guilt, self-hatred, and low self-esteem. II. Point 1: Understanding Jesus as a 100% Human Example The Human Dependency: Reading from John 5:19, Jesus explicitly declares that the Son can do absolutely nothing of Himself except what He sees the Father do. Many Christians incorrectly attribute Jesus' earthly miracles to His inherent divinity, forgetting that He stripped Himself of that privilege to come as a 100% vulnerable human baby. The Earthly Blueprint: Jesus had to fully depend on human care and look directly to His Heavenly Father for supernatural strength. By doing this, He serves as a complete human blueprint for how we are meant to walk out authority on Earth. III. Point 2: The Full Meaning of Salvation (Sozo) Fire Insurance vs. Full Rights: Most modern believers view being "saved" purely as a post-death ticket to Heaven to avoid Hell. The Greek Meaning: In Matthew 1:21, the term for save is the Greek word Sozo. When properly translated, it means you are actively rescued from: Accidents, injuries, physical harm, and structural danger. Destruction, risk, peril, loss, and premature/untimely death. Sickness, chronic disease, physical infirmity, and generational curses. The Transacted Benefits: True Sozo simultaneously grants the believer legal rights to divine prosperity, total deliverance from addictions, inner strength, structural healing, and operational wholeness. IV. Point 3: The Conversation in the Temple (The Two Sides) Using a vivid exploration of Luke 2:47, Pastor Lemuel illustrates the 12-year-old Jesus sitting among the elite rabbis and theologians, contrasting His dual lineage: On My Mother's Side: Born into natural law, generational trauma, human limitations, fear, hunger, thirst, trouble, and the lingering curse of sin. On My Father's Side: Formed in supernatural law, eternal life, and generational blessings. The Supernatural Exchange: * Hungry/Thirsty: On His mother's side, He fasts; on His Father's side, He is the Bread of Life and a well that never runs dry. Natural Law: His mother's side is bound to gravity; His Father sits upon the flood (Psalm 29:10)—and a Father who sits on the flood raises a Son who walks on water. Surrounding Defense: On His Father's side, He is covered by feathers and wings (Psalm 91:4), meaning His truth functions as a structural shield, buckler, and surrounding defense against the snare of the fowler. Age and Identity: On His mother's side, He is a 12-year-old from Nazareth; on His Father's side, He is the Ancient of Days, Alpha and Omega, the Architect of the Universe, and the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world. V. Point 4: Operating in Dunamis Power The Age of Public Service: In Hebrew culture, a priest could not step into public high-priestly service until age 30. Accordingly, Jesus did not perform public miracles until reaching this baseline. The Necessity of Anointing: Acts 10:38 states that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and power. If Jesus was operating strictly as God, He wouldn't require an anointing or a companion. He operated as an anointed human being. Miraculous Power (Dunamis): When the Holy Ghost fills a believer, they receive Dunamis power—the explosive, dynamic, and supernatural capacity to perform miracles. Rebuking the Root: When dealing with demonic possession (Acts 16), Peter's mother-in-law's fever (Luke 4), or the raging sea (Mark 4), Jesus always used sharp, severe, and authoritative rebukes (epitimao). In the storm, He did not rebuke the water; He rebuked the wind—the structural root cause of the problem. VI. Conclusion: Activating Faith vs. Waiting The Whip Post Transaction: Based on Isaiah 53:5 and 1 Paragraph 2:24, our healing is already completely provided in the past tense ("by whose stripes you were healed"). Healing was legally settled at the whipping post, not two years from now. Faith is Practical Action: Believers fail to receive because they allow passive doubt to eat their seed of faith. Like the ten lepers in Luke 17, their structural healing manifested on the way because they actively moved in obedience to Jesus' command. Healing vs. Wholeness: While nine lepers were cleansed (cured of the disease), the Samaritan leper who turned back to worship Jesus was made whole (Sozo). Healing cures the virus; wholeness creatively restores every limb, finger, or piece of flesh that was eaten away or missing. He enforced respect and safety in his establishment, even confronting racist patrons. 2. Education was non-negotiable in the Fitzpatrick household Robert is the youngest of seven siblings, all college graduates; five hold master’s degrees. He himself holds an MBA and an MS in Management Information Systems. 3. A bridge between technology and business Fitzpatrick spent decades in consulting with major firms (EDS, Dell, Arthur Andersen, KPMG) focusing on business process improvement. His dual MS/MBA made him a translator between tech and finance. 4. Military discipline shaped his personal and professional life Served in the U.S. Navy from 1986–1990, plus reserve duty (including deployment to Iraq). Balanced military service with graduate studies and advancing his corporate career. 5. A calling to revive his father’s barbecue His wife recognized his talent early, telling him for years he should be barbecuing. A shortage of good Texas barbecue in Virginia pushed him to recreate his father’s recipes. 6. Skokie, Illinois: the ideal launchpad After moving to the Great Lakes Naval Base area for a federal role, Fitzpatrick began scouting locations. Skokie offered: active support from city leadership grants an ideal building community enthusiasm 7. Dewey’s Barbecue Market offerings Meats: brisket, sausage, hot links, smoked boudin (monthly special) Sides: potato salad (egg/mayo base), pineapple vinegar coleslaw, fried okra, smoked pinto beans Desserts: apple cobbler, blueberry cobbler, sweet potato pie, possibly fried pies Bread: sliced “light bread” for dipping—traditional Texas style Experience: dine-in with 60s–80s “feel-good” music 8. A commitment to doing things the right way Fitzpatrick refuses to launch unless he can deliver “the best product on the planet.” Focuses on simplicity, authenticity, and quality. Notable Quotes About his father and legacy “He said anybody who wants to eat here can eat here.”(His father defying segregation laws in the 1950s.) “I can call an undertaker or an ambulance. Which one do you prefer?”(Dewey enforcing respect from a belligerent white customer.) “That was my barbecue.”(On being raised around his father’s legendary pit.) About family and humility “We are firmly rooted in Christ. If you try to get too big, He has a way of humbling you.” “Seven kids, all with degrees… that’s normal to you. But we know that’s not normal.”(McDonald highlighting the family’s extraordinary achievement.) About his calling “If I didn’t think I was bringing the best product on the planet, I wouldn’t even do it.” “My wife tasted the barbecue and said, ‘This is what you need to be doing.’” About launching in Skokie “They really want me to be there… the economic development team didn’t treat it like just another restaurant.” Short 3–5 Sentence Summary (For Quick Use) In his interview with Rushion McDonald, Robert Fitzpatrick shares his journey from Navy veteran and Fortune 500 consultant to entrepreneur reviving his family’s historic Texas barbecue. He describes growing up with a courageous father who defied segregation in 1951 by serving Black and white customers together, and a family culture steeped in education, discipline, and humility. Fitzpatrick’s passion for barbecue and encouragement from his wife led him to bring his father’s 70-year-old recipes to Skokie, Illinois through Dewey’s Barbecue Market. The interview emphasizes legacy, faith, courage, and the pursuit of purpose. #SHMS #STRAW #BESTSteve Harvey Morning Show Online: http://www.steveharveyfm.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

THIS IS A RERUN OF A POPULAR EPISODE - ALSO BECAUSE MARILYN IS BEING FEATURED AT THE ACADEMY MUSEUM.... #kobebryant #KOBE, #JESUSCHRIST, #JESUS, #marilynmonroe We weren't able to do a podcast tonight, "unforeseen circumstances" (isn't that funny for a podcast where we talk to the afterlife?) - but am rerunning one of our most popular podcasts, with the additional opening and subtitles, so people can "sing along with us." Just kidding. Here's the original liner notes: This was from a year ago.... For those not familiar with this podcast; Jennifer Shaffer is an intuitive medium who works with law enforcement nationwide on missing person cases. She does pro bono work daily for them, and once a week we get together and see what we can learn from the flipside. We've been doing this weekly for 8 years, the last two on our podcast. I'm a filmmaker, have written and/or directed 8 theatrical feature films, a couple of documentaries. Some years ago, my best friend died in my arms and started coming to visit me. Instead of being freaked out by it (and her showing up to friends and family members) I started to dig into how that might be. That's resulted in 10 books (Flipside, etc) and four with Jennifer Shaffer. In this edition, a number of people show up that we've spoken with before. We interviewed Kobe just after his passing, it's the last chapter in the book "Backstage Pass to the Flipside 3" - where he talks about his journey, and I ask him questions in Italian. Eventually members of his family have met with Jennifer - so it's not unusual for us that he might stop by. The construct is this; my friend who passed away is on the flipside, and has organized a "group meeting" or a class as we call it, not to teach folks on the planet, but to teach people on the flipside how to communicate using frequency, images, visualizations on the flipside. Jennifer may get an image, let's say of a character from a TV show, and it may be their way of giving her a thought so that I could say, "Do you mean someone who shares the same name of that character in the TV show wants to speak to us?" That happens often. As noted, Jennifer is doing her best to translate what is coming to her. Like a translator at the UN, the people on the flipside are downloading a lot of information, and she does her best to catch the meaning, syntax and general idea of what someone wants to impart. A number of people stop by who've been interviewed before; Prince ("I was addicted to jumping off pianos, which caused me to use pain killers"), Robin Williams ("Love Love"). Marilyn stops by - refers to something I was writing at MartiniZone.com the other day - and when I asked if she wanted to talk about the manner of her passing, she said she wanted to talk about how she had two children waiting for her on the flipside. Both whom had not come to term. That concept has been repeated in the research - consistently. A number of people in our podcast have mentioned it, the idea of "those we don't have are waiting for us on the flipside." Harry Dean Stanton said the same thing - and I was able to verify it (but don't mention it in the podcast.) It's in "Backstage Pass to the Flipside." Harry came through after he passed and before his memorial. I asked him what he wanted me to impart to his friends (as noted.) He also said that when he passed, "He was in a room with five women" and when he got to the flipside, he was met by a "baby that he didn't have in life." In other words, a child was there to greet him with this profound unconditional love. At his memorial that I went to a week later, I asked someone who was with him at his deathbed to describe the scene. She said "There were five of us with him, all women." I asked if he had said anything unusual while she was in the room. She said "Yes, he asked me to hand him the baby. But there was no baby in the room." I had heard THE SAME THING from Harry on the Flipside via Jennifer a week earlier. At some point, the Alpha and Omega stops by - and mentions the one thing he wishes people would not do, that is "get freaked out by his name." (Jesus). I've had a number of interviews with him via various mediums, different hypnotherapy sessions, and multiple guided meditation sessions. As noted in the podcast, I've finished that book and am doing the audible as we speak. (SINCE THEN IT'S BEEN PUBLISHED, AS HAS THE LATEST BOOK "SHE WAS NEVER LOST" about Amelia Earhart) As to books by scientists about how consciousness isn't confined to the brain, I recommend Dr. Greyson's AFTER, Dr. Tucker's BEFORE, Dr. Kelly's CONSCIOUSNESS UNBOUND. In terms of the hypnotherapy research, I recommend the thousands of case studies from Dr. Helen Wambach (RELIVING PAST LIVES) Dr. Weiss (MANY LIVES, MANY MASTERS) Michael Newton (JOURNEY OF SOULS.) My latest book is DivineCouncils.com - where I invited 50 people, half whom had never heard of councils, who visited them, met their guides, teachers, etc. Enjoy! Motion Church | Easter: "Does the Offer Still Stand?" What happens when you show up with an expired coupon? You already know the answer — and so does God. This Easter at Motion Church, we're looking at the Easter story through a slightly different lens: redemption. What does it really mean to be redeemed? And is the offer of salvation — purchased at the highest price imaginable — still available to you today? The answer is a resounding yes. The Bible defines redemption as "the act of God buying back or rescuing humanity from slavery to sin and death through the costly sacrifice of Jesus Christ." Romans 3 makes it clear: every one of us has sinned and fallen short, leaving us with a debt we can never repay on our own. But God, unwilling to leave his prize creation in that condition, set a plan in motion — sending his own Son to satisfy that debt once and for all. Jesus didn't just come to show us what it means to be human. "Jesus, from the moment that he entered into humanity, had a purpose, and that purpose was to redeem humanity." The cross was the cost. The empty tomb is the guarantee. As the disciples discovered on the road to Emmaus, the resurrection isn't just a miracle — it's the proof that the offer holds. "The resurrection guarantees your redemption. The offer still stands." And here's the thing about this offer: it doesn't come with an expiration date. God doesn't go out of business. "He is the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end… the offer stands from generation to generation." The coupon never expires — but you and I do. "It's a tailor-made offer that's just for you that doesn't expire, but you do." So the question isn't whether the offer is still good. It is. The question is: what are you waiting for? "Redemption offers freedom. Redemption offers peace. Redemption offers belonging, purpose, healing for the hurting, and being made whole to those who are broken. Redemption offers eternal life." Don't let your coupon go unredeemed.

Daily Dose of Hope June 10, 2026 Scripture: 1 Kings 8 Prayer: Lord Jesus, We rejoice in you. We praise your name. You are the Alpha and the Omega, the one who was, and is, and is to come. We cannot possibly express our gratitude in words. You have offered us mercy but you have also given us freedom. Thank you for that. Help us live like free people. Help us demonstrate your love and grace to others who cross our path. Help us see people through your eyes. We love you, Lord. Amen. Welcome back to the Daily Dose of Hope, the devotional and podcast that complements the New Hope Church daily Bible plan. For the summer, we are digging into 1 & 2 Kings. Today's reading is 1 Kings 8. This is a very theologically significant chapter so if you didn't get a chance to read the whole narrative, I would encourage you to do so now. We see God's promise to Abraham, Moses, and David fulfilled with the dedication of the temple. We see the normal pomp and circumstance of a religious building dedication but there is also the amazing presence of God, Solomon's genuine prayers, and words of both encouragement and warning. The Ark of the Covenant is brought into the Inner Sanctuary. This was a high and holy moment for sure. The chapter today discusses the presence of God filling the Holy Place in the newly built temple. The priests couldn't finish their service because the glory of God was so powerful. Obviously, we don't experience God's glory in the form of a cloud (I guess we could but I personally haven't.) We do experience the powerful glory of God in other ways. Because of the Holy Spirit, we can be assured that God's presence is always with us, closer than our very breath. In fact, there is no place we can go where God's presence is not. That being said, there are specific times in our lives in which we experience God's glory and presence in very real ways. These are times in which God's beauty, grace, and manifold goodness show up in undeniable ways and we know, "Wow, I've just experienced God." I have experienced God's glory in various ways. There are some times in which I'm sure God is showing up but I'm simply not paying attention. Other times, it is unmistakable–an answered prayer, a healing, a spiritual conversation or prayer with a stranger, special time with loved ones, a powerful worship service in which God's Spirit is almost palpable, hearing God's still-small voice, or even in the beauty of nature. When did you last experience God's glory? Share this with someone today. Blessings, Pastor Vicki

Hosts: Ed Jones (Owner – Nutrition World) & Clint Powell A variety of topics for living a healthy life Presented by: Nutrition World www.nutritionw.com Broadcasting from the Nooga Dentistry Studio www.noogadentistry.com Production of: Whitfield Media Group www.vitalhealthradio.com Title: Digestive Enzymes, Gut Health, and Omega-3's with Guest Brenda Watson [0:00:00] Show Intro, National Club Foot Day & Prior Episode Reference Ed mentions National Club Foot Day (previous Wednesday). References a prior Vital Health Radio episode where he strongly criticized a local Chattanooga physician for poor club foot care that nearly harmed his grandson. Ed urges: Anyone with a child/grandchild with club foot seeing providers in Chattanooga listen to our Feb 15th (2026) episode Contact: NutritionWorld@comcast.net to get details of that show and the physician referenced. Emphasis on truth, empowerment, and avoiding harm from medical “inefficiency and ignorance.” [0:03:58] Delta-8 Gummies, Anxiety/Sleep & Lifespan Extension Concepts Recap of a recent show with Hemp House. Ed explains: Only about three weeks left to legally purchase Delta-8 gummies at Hemp House or Nutrition World. Why someone might use Delta-8: Anxiety Trouble sleeping Need to stay functional but calmer Must find the right dose individually (no standard dosing). Safer than many anti-anxiety drugs when used properly. He is saving several containers in his freezer for future “bumps in the road” (periods of poor sleep or high stress). Notes dogs may benefit for anxiety, thunder phobia, pain, etc., when used correctly and from a trusted company. Ed recommends Dr. David Sinclair's “Lifespan” podcast: Focus on practical drugs, supplements, and lifestyle strategies to extend lifespan. Central concept: cellular repair – if we repaired cells at 50 as well as at 20, lifespan could drastically increase. Key tools Dr. Sinclair highlights (as relayed by Ed): Rapamycin – Ed takes this drug himself; impacts mTOR; can extend lifespan even when started later in life. AMPK activators – sold at Nutrition World; support clearing out old/dysfunctional cells. Resveratrol – mimics some effects of fasting. Hyperbaric oxygen – discussed as a potential lifespan extender. Ed shares Sinclair's animal-longevity illustrations: A mole rat living ~20x longer than regular rats → proves there are mechanisms of extended lifespan. A long-lived whale (Clint jokes and riffs on the name) said to reach ~200 years, suggesting humans might mimic similar mechanisms. [0:08:46] Call for Listener Stories & Introduction of Guest Brenda Watson Ed invites listeners to share personal health recovery stories, especially involving “the Green Pharmacy” (natural, nutritional, and lifestyle approaches, including Nutrition World support). Announced collaboration with Clint Powell on a new podcast: Short, credible motivational/educational stories (5–20 minutes). Focus: “I was in bad shape, now I'm much better” recovery narratives. Participants receive a $50 Nutrition World gift card. Recordings at a studio ~5 minutes from Nutrition World. Introduction of guest Brenda Watson, founder of Vital Planet. Described as a guru of gut health and the microbiome: Leaky gut, SIBO, broad digestive health expertise. Ed recalls her long-running NPR fund-raiser specials on gut health that reached tens of thousands. [0:13:25] Digestive Enzymes, Gut Health & Problems with Acid Blockers Topic: What is an enzyme? Why does it matter? Brenda's explanation: Enzymes “break things apart”: Protease → breaks proteins into amino acids. Amylase → breaks starches into glucose. Lipase → breaks fats into fatty acids. Ideally, stomach, pancreas, liver, and gallbladder work together to digest food into absorbable units. Early digestive symptoms: Heartburn, gas, bloating, etc. Many people self-treat with OTC antacids or proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and this often worsens underlying issues. Her main point: For early digestive symptoms, start with a full-spectrum digestive enzyme (protease, amylase, lipase) with meals, not acid-blocking drugs. As we age, natural digestion weakens, compounded by poor food quality. If food is not properly digested: It rots in the gut → gas, overgrowth of “bad bugs”. Contributes to SIBO, leaky gut, and broader dysbiosis. Leads to poor absorption of nutrients and worsening health. Enzymes as Step One: Should be a first-line intervention alongside or even before probiotics. Emphasizes that digestive enzymes for digestion must be taken with meals. Brenda notes she ran a stool test program with 12 people; often saw imbalanced gut bacteria driven by undigested food. Modern enzyme formulations can be more targeted: Gluten-support enzymes. General high-potency formulas. Formulas for dairy and fat, especially for people on keto who need extra fat-digesting support. She reiterates: Poor digestion = bad bacteria, leaky gut, SIBO, multiple gut issues. Digestive enzymes are a “no-brainer” first step when digestive symptoms appear. [0:23:47] Enzymes as a Foundational Strategy & Aging, Pancreas/Bile Physiology Emphasizes: Rotting food analogy: leftover food in a trash can on a 97°F day = what undigested food can be like inside the gut. Even without symptoms, after age ~40–45, enzymes may be wise especially for people who: Overeat Eat a lot of dairy or gluten Notes loose stools and general poor health can be caused by lack of pancreatic enzymes. Shares a case where a client's stool test showed zero pancreatic enzyme production, correlating with constant sickness. You can “get away with” some other health issues, but you cannot have a dysfunctional digestive tract and still expect even average health. Brenda further explains physiology and pH: Stomach should be very acidic (pH ~2) during digestion. When partly digested food moves into the small intestine: Bicarbonate is released to neutralize acid. Pancreas releases enzymes (protease, amylase, lipase). Liver/gallbladder release bile for fat digestion near the same region. If stomach acid is suppressed, the chain reaction is disrupted: Poor enzyme activation. Poor bile function. pH shifts can foster candida and other imbalances (e.g., colon getting too alkaline). She underscores: From mouth to colon, each region needs appropriate pH. Chronic use of acid blockers has long-term downstream consequences. Ed mentions a simple at-home baking soda test to roughly gauge stomach acid (baking soda in water between meals, watching for burping). Important caution: If you're on acid-blocking medications, you must wean off slowly; do not stop abruptly. Nutrition World's pharmacist, Dr. Curt Dearing, helps people step down from PPIs and H2 blockers safely (in partnership with their physicians). [0:30:58] Omega-3s , Purity, and Heart/Brain Health Ed highlights Vital Omega (Vital Planet): #1 selling product at Nutrition World. Exceptional purity and transparency (heavy emphasis on contaminant-free sourcing). Very high potency (2350 mg of EPA/DHA per serving). No “fish burp” complaints and virtually no returns. Contains lipase enzyme to support fat digestion and further reduce digestive discomfort. Omega blood tests on customers show high omega-3 levels when using this brand. Brenda agrees: Omega-3s are critical at any age, especially in today's toxic environment. You might skip a multivitamin, but you should not skip omega-3s. Ed's additional points: Olive oil and flax oil are not the same as concentrated EPA/DHA. EPA/DHA are essential for cell membranes, cardiovascular health, and cognitive function. Warns of contaminated fish oil from polluted waters (mercury, heavy metals, etc.). Website plug for Vital Planet: VitalPlanet.com for education, and product details. Ed reiterates his respect for Brenda's decades of ethical, passionate work and says they'll have her back on again. [0:38:54] Lifestyle, Local Food, Pillows, and Environmental Toxins Ed and Clint return; Ed summarizes the show's philosophy: Better aging is about strength, clarity, mobility, energy, not just added years. Introduces term “peak span”, maximizing the years we're at peak function, not just lifespan. Critiques normalization of poor health (hunched posture, chronic pain, poor sleep, anxiety) as “just getting old.” Local food talk: Discussion of Tallow House in Cleveland (burger restaurant, cousin of Tony from Portofino). Two-hour waits, excellent reviews, smash burgers, buns from Neidlovs bakery. Dust mites and pillows: Ed cites data that about 1/3 of a pillow can be dead skin + dust mites over time. Many pillows also contain fire retardant chemicals leading to chronic exposure while sleeping. Ed searched for non-toxic pillows via Mamavation: A site that tests products for chemical residues and rates them. His previous pillow (from Avocado) came out top-rated, so he bought a new Avocado pillow. Recommends buying via Mammovation's affiliate link for a small discount. [0:44:00] Essential Oils, Green Pharmacy & Polypharmacy Ed on essential oils quality: A test of 20 lavender oils from Amazon found: Only 3 were pure. 17 were diluted/contaminated with other oils. Smell alone isn't a reliable indicator of quality. Nutrition World only carries brands with Certificates of Analysis; dropped an entire line a few years back over quality concerns. Ed shares a Taiwanese blood pressure study: 58 adults with high blood pressure, many on meds. wore a face mask with a cotton pad containing small amounts of real lavender oil for 15 minutes/day over 7 days. Result: systolic blood pressure reduced by ~10 points. A placebo (fake) oil did not reduce blood pressure. One-day use showed no benefit – consistent use was required. He frames this as an example of the “Green Pharmacy”: Mentions Dr. Curt Dearing (pharmacist at Nutrition World): Helps people review and rationalize medication lists, with the goal of reducing polypharmacy in collaboration with prescribing doctors. References a recent Vital Health Radio episode on polypharmacy (average American takes ~17 prescriptions per year). [0:56:48] Meditation, Mindset, Ancient Wisdom & Fulfillment Story from the Daily Stoic: Kurt Vonnegut and Joseph Heller at a billionaire's party: Vonnegut points out the host made more money yesterday than Heller's Catch-22 ever did. Heller replies he has something the billionaire never will: “the knowledge that I've got enough.” Ed uses this to emphasize: The power of knowing you have enough. Shifting from chasing money to working for fulfillment once basics are covered. Clint adds: You must learn to be content with what you have while still pursuing goals. More stuff doesn't automatically create a content person. Ed reads a longer reflection on “ancient wisdom” vs. modern medicine: Fundamental philosophy: alignment with nature. Humans thrived for millennia without pharmaceuticals (acknowledges infectious disease issues before hygiene and antibiotics). Nearly every drug has unintended consequences and rarely treats root causes. Cites estimate: medical errors as the 3rd leading cause of death in the US (~250,000 deaths/year). Notes ~90% of American calories now come from processed foods and seed oils Argues seed oils are among the most destructive components of the modern diet. Many cardiologists still recommend them as heart-healthy, highlighting the conflict between mainstream and holistic views. Plug for Ed's book: “Are You Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired” available at TheHolisticNavigator.com, built around ancient wisdom. Dale Bredesen is the senior director of the Precision Brain Health Program at Pacific Neuroscience Institute and also the founding CEO of the Buck Institute. He also has authored a number of books, including, most recently, The Ageless Brain: How to Sharpen and Protect Your Mind for a Lifetime and The End of Alzheimer's: The First Program to Prevent and Reverse Cognitive Decline. Greg and Dale discuss Dale's “network insufficiency” view of Alzheimer's that shifts focus from plaques alone to a balance of synaptic “supply and demand.” He argues the brain switches from connection to protection under chronic insults, which are microbes, inflammation, toxins, metabolic syndrome, sleep apnea, and poor energetics. Dale highlights tau phosphorylation as part of an antimicrobial response and APOE4 as a pro-inflammatory risk gene with evolutionary benefits. They also discuss diet, insulin resistance, exercise, sleep metrics, stress, and the case for prevention and combined approaches. *unSILOed Podcast is produced by University FM.* Episode Quotes: The brain's shift from connection to protection 07:33: We see it at every level in the brain. We see it at the molecular level, that you have a connections program and a protection program. We see it at the cellular level, we see it at the tissue level, and even at the organismal level. You can see when people—and you can actually measure this now with blood tests—is someone on the connection side or on the protection side? So therefore, when you have insults, and over our lives it's typically various microbes, it's leaky gut, it's sleep apnea, it's various toxins we're exposed to, air pollution, mercury, microplastics, unfortunately, anesthetic agents, horrible food, all these things that are demanding you be in that protection mode, then ultimately you cannot support five hundred trillion synapses. The supply-and-demand theory of cognitive decline 30:08: Anything that lowers your supply or increases your demand is going to increase your risk for cognitive decline. On the other hand, anything that lowers the demand and increases the supply is going to be a risk reducer, whether it's Omega-3s, whether it's resolvins, whether it's exercise, whether it's better sleep, more deep sleep, less sleep apnea. There are dozens and dozens and dozens of things. So, for the first time, our armamentarium to reduce risk and reverse decline is huge. Now we can look at these different pieces and manipulate them so that we get better and better outcomes. Are doctors the antithesis to Silicon Valley? 49:23: Well, here's the thing. Doctors are the antithesis to Silicon Valley. Silicon Valley is always looking for what's disruptive, what's next, how can we go further, do more. And to be fair, it's because typically those things are not going to kill you. Whether you, like, get your package from Amazon a little faster, it's not going to kill you. Whereas the doctors are told, “Listen,” just like being in the army, “If you do not do what we tell you, someone's going to die.” And that's fair, okay. But they're very poor, therefore, at innovation. If you go back to history, it's scary, scurvy—it was understood what to do about scurvy in the sixteen hundreds. It wasn't generally accepted until the nineteen hundreds. So thousands and thousands and thousands of people died needlessly because doctors said, “No, we do not believe this.” And the same thing, frankly, is happening now with Alzheimer's disease. Because Christ will restore creation and dwell with his people forever, we must anchor our hope in the future he promises. Revelation 21:1–22:21 (ESV): 21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” 5 And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. 7 The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” 9 Then came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues and spoke to me, saying, “Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. 12 It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed— 13 on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. 14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 15 And the one who spoke with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city and its gates and walls. 16 The city lies foursquare, its length the same as its width. And he measured the city with his rod, 12,000 stadia. Its length and width and height are equal. 17 He also measured its wall, 144 cubits by human measurement, which is also an angel's measurement. 18 The wall was built of jasper, while the city was pure gold, like clear glass. 19 The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel. The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. 21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. 22 And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. 23 And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, 25 and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. 26 They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations. 27 But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life. 22 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever. 6 And he said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.” 7 “And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” 8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me, 9 but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.” 10 And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. 11 Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.” 12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” 14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. 15 Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. 16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” 17 The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price. 18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. 20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.
What happens when a data-driven nutrition scientist sits down with one of the wellness world's biggest advocates for whole-food living and tackles some of the most controversial nutrition debates head-on? In this powerful and nuanced conversation, Darin Olien welcomes naturopathic doctor, researcher, educator, and science communicator Dr. Matthew Nagra for an evidence-based exploration of plant protein, muscle growth, fiber, seed oils, saturated fat, nutrition misinformation, social media influencers, and the future of nutritional science. Together they unpack why outcomes matter more than mechanisms, why plant proteins perform just as well as animal proteins for strength and muscle gain, the truth about seed oils and omega-6 fats, the overwhelming evidence supporting fiber consumption, and how people can learn to evaluate nutrition claims more critically in a world flooded with misinformation. This episode is a masterclass in scientific literacy, critical thinking, and practical nutrition. In an age of viral misinformation, cherry-picked studies, and extreme dietary tribes, the ability to evaluate evidence, understand nuance, and focus on real-world outcomes becomes a superpower. The strongest dietary patterns consistently point in the same direction: more whole plant foods, more fiber, less dogma, and a commitment to following the evidence wherever it leads."
“There can be a stand-offishness of, ‘These are complex flavors, you may not be ready for this,'” says Mike Schallau of Chicago's Is/Was. “And I'm like, ‘Why?' You can make those things, but if that's everything you make, that's why you don't get to make that much saison, I guess. I want people to drink the beers, and I want them to drink a good amount of them.” In a post-pandemic era when craft beer is contracting, it's counterintuitive to bet big on saison—but Schallau's strategy is to make these beers with today's drinkers in mind. To that end, while he pays respect to tradition with yeast, grain, and hops, he uses modern techniques, contemporary approaches to water chemistry, and more, to make saisons that even a hazy IPA drinker can love. In this episode, he shares his approaches to: refined, minimal fermentation choices achieving the best expression from Omega's OYL-042 saison strain building “rusticity” through grain choice fermentation with no head pressure avoiding wheat in saison to control phenolics using large amounts of low-alpha hops pushing chloride over sulfate for a rounder flavor adding sugar during fermentation And more. There is a 45% chance the fish oil sitting in your cabinet right now is already oxidized. And rancid omega-3s do not just fail to help you. Research shows they generate pro-inflammatory byproducts that work against everything you are taking fish oil for. Dr. G breaks down exactly how this happens, how to test what is in your cabinet tonight with zero equipment, and what to actually look for before you buy another bottle. In this episode, you will learn: • The two oxidation markers most brands count on you never knowing about, the peroxide value and the anisidin value, and the total oxidation score that tells you whether your fish oil is actually fresh • Why the number on the front of your fish oil bottle is not the amount of omega-3s you are getting, and the simple math that reveals whether you have been underdosing for years • The at-home test you can do right now with one capsule, a pin, and 30 seconds that will tell you immediately whether to keep your fish oil or throw it away Plus the specific brands that passed Dr. G's independent investigation for certificate of analysis standards, packaging, storage, meaningful EPA and DHA doses, and proper oxidation scores.
