For the fifth episode of the Then And Now Podcast, I speak with iconic professional inline skater Montre Livingston. This episode discusses how Montre became part of Iqon, who rides for the brand, and who else is involved in the company. We discussed his custom shoe painting business and how Pabst Blue Ribbon helped him gain momentum by sharing a photo of a pair of custom PBR shoes he painted. We talked about his love of fixed geared bicycles. We then discuss how he got into rollerskating, getting a pair of Moxi Roller Skates from Michelle Steilen, aka Estrojen, then being added to the pro team for Chaya Skates. Lastly, we discuss Blading Camp in Spain and all the exciting new things happening within rollerblading during the past couple of years.Do you enjoy this podcast?Become a Patreon Member or Make a PayPal DonationShow Notes:00:00 - Intro01:01 - When we first met, Nimh Skates03:12 - Becoming part of Iqon06:14 - Iqon Products10:10 - Who is Involved with Iqon?12:17 - Disroyal and Mesmer14:02 - Iqon Team22:05 - Job before Iquon22:47 - Shoe painting business27:56 - Fixed Gear Bicycles29:28 - Gentrification31:00 - Rollerskating36:35 - Business Blading38:50 - Blading Camp45:51 - Positive changes in the industry49:15 - Shoutouts52:10 - OutroLinks for this episodeMontre's Skating InstagramMontre's Sneaker Art InstagramMontre's Rollerskating InstagramBlading CampIqon WebsiteIqon InstagramDisroyal Distribution WebsiteDisroyal on InstagramDisroyal on FacebookDistroyal on YouTubeChaya SkatesMoxi Roller SkatesMichelle Steilen aka Estrojen InstagramQueen City QuadsKiki's InstagramYou can watch these podcasts as videos on the Then And Now Youtube channel. For the third episode of the Then And Now Podcast, I chat with Chad Hornish. I first met Chad back in 1997, when we drove to Phoenix, Arizona to introduce the Nimh team at Revolutions Skateshop's Thursday night skate. I filmed an edit of that trip that featured the Nimh Team and Phoenix locals, including Dustin Latimer and Chad. Shortly after he was added to the Team and we invited him on our California Tour with Montre Livingston, Brian Shima, Jon Elliott, Joey Chase, Adam, and Keith Brierley, and Casey MacFarland. In recent years Chad has been a force to be reckoned with on the competition scene, has produced numerous sections, and is now pro for Iqon Skate Brand. We discuss, Iqon, his skating, his sections, his travels, and more in this episode. Sacha Lopez has been around for a long time, but it feels like he's finally getting the recognition he deserves. He was recently picked up by new boot brand Iqon, as well as skating for the iconic frame company 50-50, and his section in the Barcelona scene video Flama was exceptional. He has just followed up that ender part with an online profile, and he's got another one coming out this summer. Sacha talks about having to leave his native Argentina because of all the violence, what it was like growing up in Germany, why he moved to Barcelona and what his life is like now. He also discusses why he quit Razors after riding for the brand for several years and his plans going forward. You can also listen to Platform on Spotify and iTunes. Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. This week’s news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: www.elevatorbooks.com BIG DOUBLES DOWN ON QUITO WITH INSPIRED MIXED-USE TOWER Following the under-construction, mixed-use IQON tower in the Ecuadorian capital of Quito, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has unveiled a second project there: a 24-story mixed-use tower called EPIQ that takes inspiration from the city’s historic red herringbone sidewalks and the landscaped park it faces, dezeen reports. Designed in collaboration with Quito’s Uribe & Schwarzkopf, EPIQ consists of two curved blocks clad in a red herringbone façade with pockets of greenery. It will incorporate numerous sustainable features and have amenities such as an outdoor swimming pool, a cinema, bowling alley and arty areas. Slated for completion in 2022, EPIQ will rise from site near Quito’s Old City in the Parque La Carolina neighborhood and join projects by architects such as Moshe Safdie.
