The son of an assassinated senator, Iván Cepeda has spent much of his public life focused on victims' rights, historical memory, and Colombia's long internal conflict. Over four terms in Congress, he became one of the country's most prominent left-wing politicians and a central figure in some of its most consequential political and legal battles. But as he seeks the presidency, a key question remains: how would a politician whose career has been built in activism and legislation govern the country from the executive branch?SOURCES & ACKNOWLEDGMENTSKey La Silla Vacía pieces referenced: - Profile of Iván Cepeda (life, Manuel Cepeda's assassination, MOVICE, the Uribe case, “truth as a program”) - “La cuota de Cepeda en el fracaso de la paz total” — Cepeda's share of responsibility in the failure of Total Peace - “Cepeda lleva una década de silencio frente a la opresión del chavismo” — Cepeda's silence on Chavismo - Reyes' computers investigation - Profile of Abelardo de la Espriella (Montería, La Salle, Ralito/Fipaz, the client list, the brand, the religious conversion, the tiger campaign) - “El universo empresarial de la Espriella: socios cuestionados, saldos en rojo y bienes raíces” — https://www.lasillavacia.com/silla-nacional/el-universo-empresarial-de-la-espriella-socios-cuestionados-saldos-en-rojo-y-bienes-raices/Race facts verified (June 2026): - First round (May 31, 2026): De la Espriella ~43.7%, Cepeda ~40.9%; runoff June 21; winner inaugurated August 7. Iván Cepeda presents himself as a champion of peace, social justice, and human rights, but his critics see a very different picture. In this segment, we examine concerns about his ties to controversial political figures, his approach to guerrilla groups and the failed Total Peace strategy, his economic agenda, and his vision for expanding the role of the state. We also explore questions surrounding investor confidence, healthcare reform, political alliances, and his long-standing ideological commitments, offering a critical look at the risks many Colombians associate with a potential Cepeda presidency.SOURCES & ACKNOWLEDGMENTSKey La Silla Vacía pieces referenced: - Profile of Iván Cepeda (life, Manuel Cepeda's assassination, MOVICE, the Uribe case, “truth as a program”) - “La cuota de Cepeda en el fracaso de la paz total” — Cepeda's share of responsibility in the failure of Total Peace - “Cepeda lleva una década de silencio frente a la opresión del chavismo” — Cepeda's silence on Chavismo - Reyes' computers investigation - Profile of Abelardo de la Espriella (Montería, La Salle, Ralito/Fipaz, the client list, the brand, the religious conversion, the tiger campaign) - “El universo empresarial de la Espriella: socios cuestionados, saldos en rojo y bienes raíces” — https://www.lasillavacia.com/silla-nacional/el-universo-empresarial-de-la-espriella-socios-cuestionados-saldos-en-rojo-y-bienes-raices/Race facts verified (June 2026): - First round (May 31, 2026): De la Espriella ~43.7%, Cepeda ~40.9%; runoff June 21; winner inaugurated August 7. Abelardo de la Espriella presents himself as a tough-on-crime, pro-growth outsider, but his candidacy also raises significant questions. In this segment, we examine concerns about his admiration for strongman politics, his long history as a defense attorney for controversial figures, his opposition to key elements of Colombia's peace process, and the absence of a governing track record. We also explore criticisms of his approach to press freedom, social policy, and public image, offering a balanced look at the risks and uncertainties surrounding one of Colombia's most talked-about presidential candidates.SOURCES & ACKNOWLEDGMENTSKey La Silla Vacía pieces referenced: - Profile of Iván Cepeda (life, Manuel Cepeda's assassination, MOVICE, the Uribe case, “truth as a program”) - “La cuota de Cepeda en el fracaso de la paz total” — Cepeda's share of responsibility in the failure of Total Peace - “Cepeda lleva una década de silencio frente a la opresión del chavismo” — Cepeda's silence on Chavismo - Reyes' computers investigation - Profile of Abelardo de la Espriella (Montería, La Salle, Ralito/Fipaz, the client list, the brand, the religious conversion, the tiger campaign) - “El universo empresarial de la Espriella: socios cuestionados, saldos en rojo y bienes raíces” — https://www.lasillavacia.com/silla-nacional/el-universo-empresarial-de-la-espriella-socios-cuestionados-saldos-en-rojo-y-bienes-raices/Race facts verified (June 2026): - First round (May 31, 2026): De la Espriella ~43.7%, Cepeda ~40.9%; runoff June 21; winner inaugurated August 7. Iván Cepeda has built his political career around peace, social justice, and advocacy for victims of Colombia's armed conflict. In this segment, we examine the strongest arguments in his favor, from his focus on neglected regions and marginalized communities to his commitment to implementing the peace accords, his ideological consistency, and his reputation as a disciplined and experienced political operator. Whether you agree with his vision or not, these are the qualities that make Cepeda a serious contender in Colombia's 2026 presidential race.SOURCES & ACKNOWLEDGMENTSKey La Silla Vacía pieces referenced: - Profile of Iván Cepeda (life, Manuel Cepeda's assassination, MOVICE, the Uribe case, “truth as a program”) - “La cuota de Cepeda en el fracaso de la paz total” — Cepeda's share of responsibility in the failure of Total Peace - “Cepeda lleva una década de silencio frente a la opresión del chavismo” — Cepeda's silence on Chavismo - Reyes' computers investigation - Profile of Abelardo de la Espriella (Montería, La Salle, Ralito/Fipaz, the client list, the brand, the religious conversion, the tiger campaign) - “El universo empresarial de la Espriella: socios cuestionados, saldos en rojo y bienes raíces” — https://www.lasillavacia.com/silla-nacional/el-universo-empresarial-de-la-espriella-socios-cuestionados-saldos-en-rojo-y-bienes-raices/Race facts verified (June 2026): - First round (May 31, 2026): De la Espriella ~43.7%, Cepeda ~40.9%; runoff June 21; winner inaugurated August 7. Colombia has spoken. Political outsider Abelardo de la Espriella won the first round, setting up a runoff against Senator Iván Cepeda. In this video, we break down what the results reveal about the future of Petro's movement, the decline of traditional Uribismo, regional voting trends, and what the final round could mean for Colombia's economy, security, and political direction.Read more at Finance Colombia: https://www.financecolombia.com/Subscribe to Finance Colombia for free: https://www.fcsubscribe.com/More about Loren Moss: https://lorenmoss.com/writeContact us: https://unidodigital.media/contact-unido-digital-llc/Follow me on social mediaFacebook https://www.facebook.com/financecolombiaLinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/finance-colombia/Instagram https://www.instagram.com/finance_colombia/Read more at Finance Colombia: https://www.financecolombia.com/ Subscribe to Finance Colombia for free: https://www.fcsubscribe.com/ Read more at Cognitive Business News: https://cognitivebusiness.news/ The place for bilingual talent! https://empleobilingue.com/ More about Loren Moss: https://lorenmoss.com/write Contact us: https://unidodigital.media/contact-unido-digital-llc/
Are you okay with what Abner Uribe did on the field after striking out a Cardinals player?
Today's word of the day is ‘accountable' as in NBA playoff as in Thunder as in Spurs as in SGA as in Wemby. Where was Wemby after the game? Skipped his postgame interviews. Not okay. You have to show up after the game he had. (8:30) Kenny Atkinson is returning to the Cavaliers. He had signed a five-year deal in 2024, but most felt it was his time after another failed playoff run. From the things he said postgame to the sweep by the Knicks, it was all bad. The roster is so expensive, the path forward doesn't look promising. (17:12) Jalen Duren is eligible for a max contract. It's all tied into the All-NBA results. The Pistons cannot win if they do it. (29:10) Abner Uribe hit the triple pumps at the Cardinals dugout. Manager Pat Murphy was furious. Uribe said that the Cardinals manager had directed the pitchers to throw inside to Brewers hitters. The Cardinals deny it. (36:40) Review: Devil Wears Prada 2. (40:10) NPPOD. (44:03) Brian Flores lawsuit against the NFL can now go to trial. Wow. The Supreme Court is not hearing the appeal from the NFL. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Episode 224: Community Health Workers Dr. Arreaza: Today we will discuss a topic that, frankly, every single person listening, whether you're a medical student, a resident, a nurse, a family doctor, or any primary care provider, needs to really understand. We're talking about community health workers (CHWs). We are joined by our stellar medical student; you may be familiar with her voice from previous episodes about insomnia. Moira, welcome, please introduce yourself. Moira: I want to be upfront about why Community Health Workers matter to you specifically. If you've ever felt frustrated that your patient with uncontrolled diabetes keeps missing appointments because they can't get a ride, or that your heart failure patient was readmitted because nobody checked whether they could afford their medications, then you already understand the problem that CHWs are designed to solve. Dr. Arreaza: We're going to give you the definition of a CHW, the evidence behind their effectiveness, how they fit into your care team, the return on investment, and practical steps for integrating them into your practice. We have pulled information from a lot of peer-reviewed sources, and we want to share them with you. So, Moira, let's start with the basics. What exactly is a community health worker? Moira: Great question, and it's one that even literature struggles with, because there are so many titles for this role. Community Health Worker is an umbrella term that encompasses more than 20 different titles including outreach workers, promotores or promotoras de salud, community health representatives, lay health workers, peer educators, patient navigators, and many more. The American Public Health Association defines CHWs as frontline public health workers who are trusted members of or have an unusually close understanding of the communities they serve. Arreaza: And that trust is so important in health care. CHWs are not physicians. They are not nurses. They do not diagnose or prescribe. But they are like a bridge connecting the medical environment, social services, and the community to reduce gaps in healthcare delivery. Moira: Exactly. In the United States, the role was formally recognized in the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which includes several sections highlighting the key roles CHWs play in achieving important goals of healthcare. ________________ References: Aguerrebere, M., Rodríguez-Cuevas, F.
