Welcome to VisAbleBlackwoman, the podcast I'm your host Jeanine T. Abraham. This week I'm speaking with my favorite acting coaches, Lee Brock and Seth Barrish the co-artistic directors of The Barrow Group Theater Company in New york The Barrow Group was founded in 1986 by an ensemble of actors and directors who wanted to produce meaningful plays using a natural, intimate performance style that allows actors to be spontaneous and free. The Barrow Group has developed and/or produced over 150 shows, and actors like academy award winner Anne Hathaway, Emmy award winner Tony Hale from Veep, and working actor Allison wright from The Americans all studied at the Barrow Group. The Barrow Group offers acting classes in person and virtually from wherever you are in the world. CLICK HERE for more information. And The Barrow Group has moved to a new performance and rehearsal space at 520 8th Ave in midtown Manhattan! Check out information about the space in the link in the show notes. Go to Patreon.com/VisAbleBlackwoman to become a sustaining member of VisAbleBlackwoman on Patreon Season 3 of VisAbleBlackwoman the podcast I am exploring the creative process with my favorite creative people. This week my special guest is Michael James Schneider, my favorite Instagram artist AKA @blcksmith on IG. Michael has attracted 586K followers by creating Memes of funny and inspiring quotes like "New Rule The Underwear has to stay on longer than the sex lasts." And one of my favorite quotes by comedian Stephen Szczerba, "Growing up no one tells you that one day you'll get tired for no reason and just stay that way for the rest of your life." I discovered Michael's IG during my time sheltering in place. During that time I developed this terrible insomnia and would wake up at 2:00 in the morning and look at Instagram. Through all my anxiety and fear, his posts made me belly laugh out loud and feel better. Michael is so kind, open, and honest about his creative process. In this interview, we talk about the reality of what life is like as a creator on social media, how being fully transparent about his life on social media taught him how to learn to be more strategic about what he decides to share on social media and where process ends and creativity begins. I hope you enjoy my conversation with artist, Michael James Schneider. This year, new data from the federal government revealed that U.S. population growth is slowing as more women are delaying having children or deciding to forgo motherhood altogether. Amy Blackstone, professor in sociology at the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center at the University of Maine and the author of Childfree by Choice: The Movement Redefining Family and Creating a New Age of Independence (Dutton, 2019), talks about her decision not to have kids and takes your calls on how you came to that choice too. I never wanted to have kids because of racism period. It’s really telling that a white person dealing with issue wouldn’t even think to include Black folks and POC — Jeanine T. Abraham (@J9dances) May 6, 2021 @BrianLehrer love this subject. After my whole adult life expecting to be a dad have now gladly embraced the opposite decision. — Chris Talbott (@chr5istalbott) May 6, 2021 @BrianLehrer Thank you for this segment on choosing child-free living. I'm undecided on this issue, but one thing I worry about for my generation (senior millennials) is support for us when we're retired. As it is, the Social Security fund is running dry. Thank you! — Elyse Lichtenthal (@elysehll) May 6, 2021 @BrianLehrer As someone who did not have children, this does not mean my life is “child free.” I mentor so many youth through my teaching and my friends and relish my role as an aunt. Also offer fiscal help when possible. I hope we can move beyond this divide. — Ann Heppermann (@annheppermann) May 6, 2021
