The Ballad of John D. Cort continues as Tread Perilously watches an episode of Baywatch called "The End?" When a series of tremors leads to a larger shock, the Baywatch team is caught off guard for landslides, liquefaction, and dangerous panes of glass. Cort and Craig, meanwhile, find trouble when the shockwaves hit the spot they were diving. Back on land, Hobie helps Craig's wife, Gina, get to safety while Mitch tries to do his job. Shauni's attention is also split when Eddie fails to call in from his patrol. But, as it turns out, he's busy helping a pregnant woman who went into labor just as she helped him out of a jam. Justin tries to determine how many characters return for season 2 and Baywatch's first year in syndication. Erik remembers Jill and the Aussie guy Cort replaced. Both are surprised to watch an episode of the show that is nearly competent. Craig gets a full appraisal. Sea Hunt enters Justin's knowledge base. Captain Thorpe finally becomes indispensable. The program's primary flaw appears once more. Geography Corner tries extra hard to determine the beaches used this week. Eddie's living situation is clarified. The pair try to determine who among the Face/Off leads knew about John Woo prior to working with him and Eddie becomes a real boy.

The Ballad of John D. Cort continues with an episode of Baywatch called "Old Friends." Mitch, Craig, and Garner take a few days off to hang glide in the Santa Monica mountains. Well, Garner is more interested in reading and dozing. But when Mitch crashes into a tree, gets bit by a snake, and subsequently falls into a quarry, it's up to Craig and Garner to get him out of the wilderness. Meanwhile, Cort is reminded of a friend who died a year earlier. But when he visits the widow, he gets the sense things may not be as it seems. Will it turn out he was a patsy all along? Erik and Justin realize Baywatch's time has passed. They also call for the return of Geocities and webrings. Colonial Marine Trevor Wierzbowski becomes an unlikely mascot. Mitch's fall down the cliff becomes the lynch pin of the entire outing. The love fest for John Allen Nelson continues. Captain Thorpe makes a very special appearance. David Hasselhoff's ego gets examined. Manwë joins the pantheon. A brief guest turn by Hope Marie Carlton leads well into the weeds. Garner's glamping is praised. Mitch ends up being the worst character and a snake turns out to be the hero.

The Ballad of John D. Cort continues as Tread Perilously returns to Baywatch for an episode called "The Big Race." When an old folks home asks Cort to double his annual $5000 donation, he looks to sell the dive shop for extra scratch. But just as Mitch and Craig pony up $3000 to help him out, he uses the money to buy a boat and enter a water ski tournament with a $15,000 prize. Mitch and Craig become his unwilling partners -- who happen to know nothing about his real reason for needing the money -- but will they take point when Cort cracks a rib during practice? Meanwhile, Shauni is afraid to go in the water. Justin reaches a point where he can make informed judgments about Baywatch -- much to his horror. Erik tries to rework the show into a "beach cop" series with Cort as the lead. Justin tries to rework the episode into a 1980s boob comedy. He also argues for fewer characters on Baywatch. Director Kevin Inch's use of montages is criticized. Godfrey Ho enters the discussion. The logistics of the race's Catalina-and-back course are examined. Geography Corner tries to figure out where the Back to the Beach pier resides. Captain Thorpe makes a special appearance and the replacement sound-a-like music finally gets noticed.

With an extra week in August, Tread Perilously re-opens the Grab Bag for an extra verse in The Ballad of John D. Cort -- the Baywatch episode called "Shark Derby." The annual shark season is a little bit more robust than usual with sightings more common and local restaurateur Bucky sponsoring a shark derby. Contestants, which include John D. Cort, Eddie, Captain Thorpe, and Hobie, must bring in the largest shark possible. But Mitch, always wary of Bucky, doubts the increasing shark population is a coincidence. Did the entrepreneur figure out a way to invite more sharks to the coastal waters? And will it prove fatal for a member of Mitch's team? Justin busts out the shark facts right quick. Erik recalls the soon-to-be-closed fish restaurant Gladstones. Both marvel at the simplicity of Bucky's scheme. The 1980s hangover gets dissected. Captain Thorpe's descent into madness makes its way to Hobie. Peter Benchley's Jaws comes up often. David Hasselhoff's actual height becomes unavoidable. For the first time ever, original Baywatch character Jill matters. Hasselhoff's need to barge into scenes gets called out. Erika Eleniak's scream is reviewed. Craig's murder eyes make a special appearance and the Hoff gets compared to Tommy Wiseau in a very specific way. Also, the praise for John Allen Nelson continues.

The Summer 2023 Grab Bag continues with the next verse in the Ballad of John D. Cort -- the Baywatch episode called "Eclipse." When Eddie's new partner drowns after claiming to see a woman in a nightgown running among the surf, he begins to have the same vision. Is Eddie finally cracking? Is it a real apparition? When Captain Thorpe suspends him, Gina gets on the case and discovers there may be some truth to the phantom Eddie describes. Meanwhile, Hobie tries to hide a dog from Mitch and Cort buys an antique diving suit that immediately ends up stolen. Justin expects werewolves, but gets Eddie instead. William Fichtner's part in Go once again comes up in conversation. Erik accuses the AI of always picking Adam Driver. The pair disagree on The Faculty. The ocean proves to be a horror. Justin credits Craig with a fantastic physique. He also finally encounters what Allison Pregler calls "the Death Pier." Captain Thorpe's descent into madness continues. Geography Corner centers on the Los Angeles area beaches. Mitch's culpability in regards to the dog's fate is explored. Eddie's petulance when Shauni shows concern is also examined. Certain apartments prove to be unreal and Jabberjaw becomes surprisingly important.

"The Ballad of John D. Cort" continues as Tread Perilously heads back to the beach for an episode of Baywatch called "Snake Eyes." When John D. Cort invites Shauni and Eddie to an illegal casino aboard a rusting boat, he thinks it's all in good fun. But when Eddie catches a streak of beginner's luck and wins $2,000, he also catches the gold fever. Returning to the boat the next day, he gives it all back and signs a marker totaling three grand. Will he come clean to Shauni and the others? And will Cort figure out a way to bail out his hapless pal? Erik and Justin try to determine Cort's G.I. Joe codename. Eddie's failures as a character leave them to question if it's all a joke at actor Billy Warlock's expense. Several TV shows get pitched thanks to Cort's hijinks. The Full Peril film list continues to grow. Werner Herzog returns. Justin becomes the expert in a beach-focused Geography Corner. Erik explains why David Hasselhoff and Sharon Stone never shared the screen. Justin outlines what a date with John D. Cort would be like. He also finds something to like about Mitch. When Sonny Pruitt and an old friend challenge each other to rodeo antics, the friend ends up in the hospital. Pruitt agrees to move the rodeo to a nearby town and take care of the cashbox. Soon enough, the rodeo owner's ex-wife appears to take charge and admit she was always sweet on Pruitt. Can they get the rodeo ready for a key show? Also, will they be able to keep their young hot-shot bullrider from singing with a bigger promoter? Erik and Justin get lost in the 1970s of it all. Justin attempts to figure out Movin' On's premise from the episode itself. Gene Simmons claims a most grandiose invention. The career of Claude Akins gets some examination. Santa Clarita does not fare well in a geography corner analysis. The pair try to determine the title of a rodeo emcee. They also re-imagine the episode's plot with John D. Cort and Eddie from Baywatch. A Martinez appears as the young rider and Tina Louise proves to be the episode MVP. Also, John Wayne gets his just deserts.

But Cort, being Cort, pulls Eddie into the job, who in turn attracts the eye of a trainee and the ire of another. Mitch, meanwhile, plans for Hobie's class to visit Baywatch and Captain Thorpe seeks to fire Shauni after a photo of her at a guard tower ends up in a swimsuit calendar. Geography Corner starts early as Erik and Justin discuss Raging Waters in San Dimas, CA. They also take a break to discuss Ms. Marvel. Justin is still surprised Baywatch had a writers room. The pair also end up discussing the Scott Bakula classic, Color of Night, and the films of Clive Barker. The career of Monte Markham gets examined. Eddie once again ends up looking like the worst. Erik argues for Erika Eleniak 's talent as a TV actor. Captain Thorpe's descent into madness continues. Tread Perilously's Grab Bag month concludes with a return to Baywatch for "We Need A Vacation." When Craig complains about splitting his time between being a lifeguard, a lawyer, and a husband, John D. Cort suggests going to Mexico for a quick vacation. As it happens, he's already planning to take Eddie there to teach him some surfing. Instead of surf and relaxation, they end up in the mythical Mexico that only exists in film and television. Meanwhile, Hobie gets the hots for Shauni, but Mitch Buchanan is too busy dealing with Captain Thorpe's marital troubles to notice. Will Mitch ever take an interest in his son? Justin and Erik are thrilled to return to the Ballad of John D. Cort, even if he's more douchebag than good guy this time around. Hobie proves to be more emotionally mature than Eddie, but his storyline still ends up in the hot seat. Erika Eleniak's qualities as a TV presence are examined. Justin suggests the notion of a biblically-accurate Saruman. Day and night once again fail to have meaning. Erik suggests the episode may be a backdoor pilot for a new series for John Allen Nelson, Parker Stevenson, and Billy Warlock. Also, the love affair with John Allen Nelson continues.

Cort returns to Baywatch for his obligatory ten-days of work to remain certified. But he's also in town to help Jack Burton (not that one) rescue some illicit computer parts from the nearby ocean. Cort brings his usual joie de vivre with him, much to Mitch's amusement. Unfortunately, trouble has also followed Cort back to Southern California. Will it lead him to stay in town or will Cort end up in a more "permanent" retirement? Sarah Madden returns as Erik and Justin get lost talking about John D. Cort and actor John Allen Nelson. Erik recalls the film Navy SEALs. Sarah determines the premise of Baywatch -- although she has previously seen the show. Character actor Mickey Jones gets a shout-out. Justin associates magical powers with John D. Cort and gets mad when he discovers Nelson was never on Red Shoe Diaries. Erik credits Allison Pregler with a number of key Baywatch facts and terms. Justin accidentally creates The Cooler Chair. The group tries to determine if naming a character "Jack Burton" is a reference to Big Trouble in Little China or not. Speedos proves to be unpopular (unless worn by John Allen Nelson) and Justin once again stumps for She's All That.

Tread Perilously offers a bonus grab bag episode as it heads back to the beach with the Baywatch episode "Point of Attack." John D. Cort waltzes back into town in time to save Eddie from a bunch of "vatos." But instead of sending the kids off the jail, Eddie and Mitch get them enrolled in the L.A. County Lifeguards' W.A.T.E.R. Program; which introduces disadvantaged youths to beach activities like windsurfing. Unfortunately, one of the kids, Memo, tries to evade joining the program. Does it have anything to do with his father (guest star Danny Trejo)? Will Eddie be able to get through to them both? Will Cort steal the show from the regular Baywatch cast? Justin professes his love for actor John Allen Nelson while Erik eventually explains his character, John D. Cort. Both recall when people dressed like the "vatos" in this week's episode. Justin glimpses a better version of Baywatch. The fight between Nelson and Trejo ends up a highlight even if Eddie (star Billy Warlock) is meant to be the lead character. A theory forms around David Hasselhoff's absence from the episode. Justin critiques the presentation of CPR chest compressions on television and Erik finds a new thesis project.
