Aunque las cifras oficiales en Argentina muestran una baja en la pobreza a nivel nacional, esa mejora no se distribuye de manera uniforme. Barrios como Villa Fiorito siguen enfrentando condiciones precarias. En ese emblemático barrio las familias continúan apelando a distintas estrategias de supervivencia —venta callejera, reciclaje, trabajos informales, uso de ahorros, préstamos— para llegar a fin de mes. Un reportaje de Natalio Cosoy, corresponsal de RFI en Buenos Aires. En el último año y medio, la pobreza en Argentina bajó 10 puntos: del 41,7% al 31,6%. La inflación se desaceleró de más del 200% anual hasta ubicarse en torno al 30% y la desocupación está por debajo del 8%. Sin embargo, esas mejoras no necesariamente se traducen en un alivio para la economía cotidiana de los hogares. El marcado aumento de los gastos fijos —desde los servicios básicos hasta el transporte— dificulta que los ingresos alcancen y obliga a muchos a buscar alternativas para reforzar su presupuesto. No son estrategias nuevas, pero se intensifican cuando los ingresos básicos resultan insuficientes, algo que se nota especialmente en los sectores más pobres. Un informe reciente del Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos muestra que hoy casi cuatro de cada diez hogares utilizan ahorros para subsistir, cuando en 2003 eran menos de dos de cada diez. El estudio también indica que algo más del 14% de los hogares recurre a préstamos, la cifra más alta desde 2019. Otra estrategia recurrente es sumar la venta callejera. Así ocurre, por ejemplo, en Villa Fiorito, un barrio que limita con el sur de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Allí, murales de Diego Armando Maradona sirven de telón de fondo a la feria callejera que cada domingo se despliega a lo largo de unos dos kilómetros. Hay vendedores de mayor escala, que ofrecen productos nuevos, y también los llamados “manteros” [recicladores], que extienden una manta en el piso con objetos recolectados en la calle, encontrados en la basura, recibidos como regalo o recuperados de sus propias casas. "Desde que encuentro la basura, lo reciclado, en cualquier lado, lo lavo y lo traigo. Le pongo un precio, así, tres por dos mil, o cuanto me quiera dar", dice Celeste, de 24 años. Durante la semana busca objetos para vender en la feria, pero los ingresos apenas le alcanzan. "Para un día, para la comida, porque a veces no se gana mucho. A veces yo, en la mañana, hago cinco mil pesos, nada." Cinco mil pesos equivalen a unos 3 dólares y medio. El alquiler de la vivienda que Celeste comparte con su pareja y sus tres hijos pequeños ronda los 200 dólares mensuales. "Manteros digitales" "Desde hace varios años para acá la situación económica familiar viene en declive", señala Matías Mora Cáceres, politólogo y residente en Fiorito desde 2002. "A las familias les cuesta mucho llegar a fin de mes en estos últimos tiempos; incluso está costando llegar a mitad de mes, y por eso construyen distintas estrategias o alternativas para generar ingresos." Entre esas estrategias, Mora Cáceres detectó en los últimos años una nueva actividad: la de los "manteros digitales". "Se empiezan a utilizar las redes sociales y las distintas aplicaciones para generar unos pesos extra, en complemento al trabajo que ya tiene cada familia. Utilizan el tiempo de ocio, de descanso, el tiempo familiar, para generar plata y poder subsistir." Ese es el caso de Paola. "Le muestro cómo funciona por WhatsApp, que es por donde más se vende… Aquí la persona me hace el pedido; le pregunto por los colores…", explica desde su casa, donde desarrolla un pequeño negocio de venta de cosméticos a través de redes sociales. Aunque su emprendimiento funciona, si bien tiene altibajos, Paola no ve un horizonte claro. “Yo lo que veo acá en mi barrio, lo que veo en la escuela de mis hijas, es que vamos viviendo el día a día. No podemos proyectar al mes que viene porque no sabés si cobrás.

Según Peña, “los mercados de deuda están revueltos” y el foco de preocupación se sitúa más en el crédito corporativo que en la deuda soberana. Explica que “el año ha sido convulso en sí”, marcado por movimientos bruscos en los tramos largos de la curva de tipos. Recuerda, por ejemplo, “el incremento en el gasto militar que llevó un repunte de tipos en el largo plazo europeo” y destaca “la pendiente que ha habido en el largo plazo, especialmente en Inglaterra y en Estados Unidos”, donde los rendimientos han mostrado mayor volatilidad por expectativas cambiantes de inflación y política fiscal. Peña señala también que durante el año “ha habido algún susto de liquidez, donde ha parecido que la Fed no iba a dar la liquidez que ha dado en los descuentos de papel que hace”, una herramienta clave para controlar la oferta monetaria. Aun así, considera que “eso se ha tranquilizado”, permitiendo una mayor estabilidad en el mercado. De cara a los próximos meses, su visión es algo más constructiva: “esa tranquilidad, junto con una perspectiva de control de la inflación y quizás que se solucione un poco la sucesión de Powell, le va a hacer volver a tipos a la zona baja del año”. Con ello, anticipa una posible relajación de los rendimientos si se consolidan las expectativas de estabilidad monetaria.

Pulled from school after third grade, Joel grew up on the move—living in an Airstream behind a 4x4 International Travel-All, camping in Baja and the Tonto, reloading shells by age seven, and learning survival skills during his family's doomsday-prep phase. A cross-country odyssey led to communes, holistic doctors, and the Santa Fe Free School Community—an egalitarian, hands-on “free school” that doubled as a commune. Joel thrived building wind-powered go-karts, raiding government surplus auctions, and even serving as a “theatrical prop” in anti-war protests. The family later settled in Chimayó, NM, where Joel helped hand-build an adobe addition—hauling vigas, quarrying flagstone, and working with Santa Clara Pueblo craftsmen. After his parents' divorce, Joel bounced between unconventional schooling and real-world hustles: statewide Roto-Rooter setup at 13, flea-market flipping, dinner-theater bartending at 15, wild street races, and an infamous teen road trip to Vegas—all before a move to Nebraska, where his rancher-grandfather became a steadying force and mentor. From feral freedom to farm discipline, Joel's early life forged the grit and ingenuity he'd later bring to competitive rock crawling. More of Joel's story next week – don't skip this one; it's wild! Support the show

Baja pronto 1) Atravesaba: Nadie ha conseguido el éxito quejándose. Nadie consiguió el éxito criticando a los demás. Nadie consigue el éxito buscando excusas. Estas actitudes de queja, crítica o excusas nunca te llevarán un punto a favor. Así que trágate el ego y el orgullo para empezar a centrarte en tus propias acciones y mentalízate en lo que Dios te pide a vos y no a otros. 2) No podía: Hay una gran diferencia entre abandonar algo por no tener valor y el dejar algo o a alguien por el hecho de decir “Basta”, porque ya fue suficiente. Por lo tanto, aprende a ver los límites y hacer respetar tus límites para que puedas mirar a dónde se dirige tu vida y a dónde quieres encauzar tu vida, hay situaciones que son necesarias dejarlas y otras, lucharlas. 3) Baja: Aprende a dejarte corregir porque si alguien te corrige es porque le importas. Me refiero a esa persona que ve algo mal en mí y me lo dice con caridad y con actitud de respeto. Cambia la mirada y así cambiará tu forma de ver. Porque quien te corrige es porque te quiere. La otra vez un cura me invitó a comer una pizza y tuvo la delicadeza de invitarme a comer para corregirme y decirme cosas que yo estaba haciendo mal. Aprendí que quien te quiere te corrige a solas y hasta te anima a que te sientas bien. Déjate corregir y baja un poco para poder mejor ver. Algo bueno está por venir.

Shava Cueva is the Baja California, Mexico born photographer who created the book and platform Bebidas de Oaxaca. The self-published book, now in its second edition, and available in English and Spanish, documents an incredible 87 traditional drinks from the eight regions of the state of Oaxaca. They are drinks made from “fruits, seeds, rinds, leafs, sap, flowers, crusts, [and] stems,” and prepared “raw, roasted, cooked, fermented, distilled, boiled, ground, mixed by mortar and pestle, foamed, cold or hot.” The book is filled with beautiful imagery that show the time and care Shava takes when visiting these often remote, rural communities and it shows the richness of these drinks, which are often left out of conversations of Oaxacan food and are gradually disappearing.What's especially fascinating is that Shava has no culinary background. In the interview we discuss how the Baja born photographer, who now lives in Australia, first became intrigued by Oaxaca's traditional beverages. He had a vague idea of a project during the pandemic, but once he arrived to the state and started shooting, he realized how substantial the project could become. There was so many drinks that weren't archived anywhere and he continues to document them. His website and YouTube channel continue where the books leave off, and the material just keeps coming. It's an endless source of inspiration for him.
