Our guest this week is a celebrity hair stylist from Venice Beach. His Hollywood clientele is impressive....Jonah Hill,Bruno Mars, Rob Lowe, James Corden, and Hugh Jackman to name a few! He has been featured on KTLA, NBC, CBS, and Men's Health! His barber shop is the ideal place to hang on a Saturday to work, drink coffee, and leave a happier and more handsome man! But there is much more to his story than making ridiculously good looking people look better. At 30 years old he hit rock bottom. He was a drug addict, homeless, and spent about 4 years in and out of recovery. It wasn't until he gave a homeless alcoholic person a haircut, that he found a purpose. That purpose is HELPING OTHERS. He found sobriety, success, and fame. He now uses his notoriety to help others and it is his mission to help people get off the streets through his non profit 501C3 foundation. From celebs to homeless, we welcome the ever inspiring THE MENSGROOMER Jason "THE MANE MASTER" Schneidman!!!!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Today, I'll be speaking with Laura Grier about all of her favorite outdoor adventures throughout Western Los Angeles. We'll primarily focus on the span along the coast between Marina del Rey and Malibu, including stops in Venice, Santa Monica, Culver City, and Topanga. And then, before wrapping it all up, we'll also be taking a quick second-day trip over to Catalina Island! Join Laura and me as we paddle, bike, jeep, hike, wine taste, and even take an extra day island adventuring all in West LA! About Laura Grier Laura has lived in Venice Beach and Los Angeles for 20 years. Living abroad from a young age and working for the CIA at age 18, Laura turned her life of travel, adventure, and exploration into a profession as a photojournalist. She has been to all 7 continents through her work, shot weddings in over 15 countries, and has even been called the Indiana Jones of Adventure Travel Photography. Laura was also featured on Discovery Channel UK's “20 Richest People in the World List,” – highlighting people rich in life experiences. Passionate about mentoring, women's education, photography, and travel, Laura leads travel workshops and expeditions and serves as an ambassador for sustainable travel brands like Lokal and Impact Travel Alliance.  The most satisfying work so far in Laura's career has been during the last 8 years with Novica, National Geographic's global artisan catalog that represents artisans from around the world who are practicing “Vanishing Arts.”  With NOVICA, Laura has especially fallen in love with the culture and people of Peru.  Currently, Laura has joined forces with Pats Krysiak to create Andeana Hats, a sustainable fashion company that sources alpaca wool hats hand-made by Quechua women in the Sacred Valley of Peru. The mission of Andeana Hats is to invest in women's skills, empowering them to continue their vanishing crafts by connecting them to global marketplaces and supporting their leadership to increase their income and transform their communities. Learn more about Laura Grier (and see more of her beautiful photography) at LauraGrier.com and learn more about Andeana Hats at AndeanaHats.com. What We Cover in This Episode What leads young people living in Los Angeles to move to the beach. What gives the westside more of a “little villages” feeling. What makes the westside of Los Angeles optimal for outdoors lovers. An urban bike path with art that should not be missed. How to get to the best 360-degree view of all of Los Angeles – from downtown to the beach! The best and worst times of year to visit west LA. The must-stay hotels. A new crowd favorite hotel with the most happening rooftop bar and marina views. Which neighborhoods on the west side allow Airbnbs, and which don't. The best spots for breakfast in west LA. Laura's favorite activities to do in the morning around the beach. The best area to do a little shopping and grab a bite for lunch in west LA. A hidden hike, 15 minutes from the beach, with incredible rock formations and caves. A spot where you can taste wine and see a wild zebra, all in one visit! Two excellent westside dinner options. A second-day adventure to Catalina Island! Including how to get there and what outdoors lovers can do once they get there, for all budgets. A brief tangent all about Mackinac Island, MI – and the activity missed most often on that island! A few best Instagram spots in the area from a professional photographer! The most overrated tourist spots in western Los Angeles. Quotables And then, as you get older, like 30 plus, usually people sort of migrate west to the beach, which is just a little bit more relaxed, like flip-flop lifestyle. Laura Grier And then the entire hike is just all the way up this red rock road to the top of the mountain with incredible views. And it's just, it looks like you're on a different planet, like parts of it. And it doesn't look like Los Angeles at all, and it's all wooded and rocky formations, and it's such a beautiful hike. Laura Grier The greatest part about living on the westside is that we have the best outdoor activity that people come from all over for, which is the beach. And I take it for granted at times because I live literally on the beach. Like I can walk out barefoot and be on the sand and, you can hear people like cheering at sunset for the sunset. Like it's actually an event that people want to sit and watch. Laura Grier What I love about Los Angeles is that there's all these hills and canyons. And there's all these windy mountain roads that are stunning. And there's hidden forests and canyons and like overlooks and waterfall hikes and all kinds of things that are literally 15 minutes out of the city. So I think that's the part that people don't realize. They like want to jam in all the city stuff, and I think you definitely need more time to see the natural wonders. On Wednesday's Mark Levin Show, the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, joins the show. Trump said he never imagined that America would retreat from Afghanistan the way they did. Trump reiterated how the conditions-based deal had fail-safes in place to ensure peace was maintained and when there were violations the U.S would use strategic bombings to respond. Trump was clear that he would never leave any Americans behind in Afghanistan and expressed regret for the loss of 13 members of the U.S military and 170 Afghans. Trump said that parents of slain soldiers know that their child would be alive if we didn't have rigged elections. On the border, Trump said the wall was a great idea and was nearly complete after winning 11 court challenges. Trump added that this is Biden's sheer incompetence because Democrats cheat in elections, so they don't need to flood the country with immigrants. On running in 2024 Trump said, he wasn't sure because Wokeism is for losers and the Democrats are unbelievably good at cheating in elections and that his administration exposed that as he underscored the need for election reform. Then, the media will create straw men to twist people's words just like they will attack Trump for saying that Robert E. Lee was an effective military officer, despite not supporting the confederacy. Yet, the left never calls for the toppling of statues of Karl Marx, I wonder why? The disdain for history is always one-sided, as it often is when Marxists are rewriting it. The left calls for counting every vote, even those that are not legally eligible to vote. That's illegal! Later, the Democrat Party doesn't fit into the system that the founders created. Biden's push for electric cars only hurts the country. The country is run by dolts and now Psaki is saying that the US must rely on the Taliban to rescue our citizens that are being held on the airplanes. Afterward, Larry Elder was accosted in Venice Beach and when his campaign staff tried to intervene they were physically assaulted by the hecklers. Another Californian, Nancy Pelosi is embracing AOC's desire to gut the capitalist system with paid family leave. Finally, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich calls in to discuss his Senate run in Arizona. Brnovich also added that Arizona has argued for their state senate's election integrity measures in front of the US Supreme Court.

We're joined by Dr Bob Kilroy, a chiropractor who was teaching his daughter to surf one Sunday at Venice Beach when the unthinkable happened. On an otherwise clear day a cloud appeared & started a light drizzle with a single lightning strike that hit the waters of Venice Beach, right next to Bob! Struck by literally a million volts in the equivalent of a bathtubs distance, Bob goes into cardiac arrest & inhales some seawater. His daughter, who was knocked off of her surfboard but spared from serious electrocution, pulls him to safety where lifeguards and an ER Cardiologist who happened to be at the beach pull him out and begin CPR. Then our own Danny shows up after what he described as "a bomb going off" followed by a call for an electrocution, upgraded en route to a lightning strike, then to a full cardiac arrest. The lifeguards regain a pulse, then they're off to UCLA ER with Danny pulling off a risky intubation en route. Dr Kilroy makes a full recovery & he and Danny have a unique discussion as Danny is able to fill in the blanks for the 24 hours where the Dr was in a coma. We also talk about the incredible lesson Dr Kilroy took away from this experience as well as how crazy Venice Beach is on a Sunday, what a spinal adjustment is like, how to become a chiropractor, why both hosts like to see a chiro, how the nervous system responds to a lightning strike, what the recovery is like, & also HOLY CRAP THIS DUDE WAS STRUCK BY LIGHTNING AND LIVED & sat with us & showed us the tattoo he got to remember it. Dr Kilroy is super cool, & also has a great broacasting voice, kinda Bill Walton ish. This episode also has footage from the actual event as well as a shout out to Body Glove.

#013 - It's hard to say how or when we begin to disconnect from our bodies, but no doubt it is an epidemic that millions of people suffer from. Often times we are not even aware it has happened until we begin to experience physical or emotional pain. Perhaps this is more of a Western phenomenon or the result of living in a technological age, but we are often taught that logic, thinking, and science reign supreme. When in reality, all of us have a deeper intuition and inner knowledge that is already dwelling within.  On this week's episode, I spoke with one of my best friends, Brendan Miller, about his journey of reconnecting with his own body and what it means to live more deeply from the heart. We explored a wide variety of topics from movement, dance, self-compassion, and a whole lot more.  About Brendan:When he's not dancing or drumming, he is the Co-Founder and Chief Technical Officer of 2Gather, a plan for a trustworthy and democratic new digital commons. You can read more about the project here: https://2gather.one. He lives happily with his wife in wild and free Venice Beach, CA.
