In the latest episode of the podcast that wields films like deadly weapons, Mike drags Jay kicking and screaming into the twisted world of Rumpelstiltskin (1995)—a movie that asks the bold question, “What if a goblin got loose in 1990s Los Angeles and immediately learned to drive stick shift?” Between the boundlessly illogical plotting, endless baby screaming, and an ancient curse powered by hammy one-liners, the guys do their best to articulate a cinematic experience that feels less like a fairy tale and more like a cousin to Tommy Wiseau's The Room. After that, Jay and Mike count down their Bottom Five Names—a celebration of the worst, weirdest, and most aggressively stupid character names ever committed to film. Finally, in a heartfelt tribute, they honor the late, great Val Kilmer by playing a special round of Kick Two, Pick Two—pitting four of Kilmer's movies against each other, with only two allowed to survive. So grab your favorite screaming infant, fire up your motorcycle, and join the fairy tale that somehow no one wanted—but everyone deserves to hear about!

Who's to blame for the making of The Room? This week, The Alarmist (Rebecca Delgado Smith) welcomes back Adam Lustick to discuss 2003 box office flop The Room. Written, produced, starring and directed by the one and only Tommy Wiseau, it's a masterclass in that ever so relatable phrase, “you're doing it wrong.” Did a lack of pushback lead to this epic cinematic failure? Could divine inspiration by Tennesse Williams and The Talented Mr. Ripley be to blame? Or perhaps this was due to a complete lack of self awareness across the board. James Franco visits Google to discuss writing, directing, producing and starring in his film "The Disaster Artist.” The movie is based on Greg Sestero's best-selling tell-all book about the making of Tommy Wiseau's cult-classic disasterpiece The Room, often referred to as “The Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made”. In the film, Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero become friends after meeting each other in an acting class in San Francisco. Hoping to achieve Hollywood stardom, Sestero moves to Los Angeles and signs on to appear in Wiseau's project. Financed with his own money, Wiseau writes, directs and stars in "The Room," a critically maligned movie that becomes a cult classic. The film also stars Dave Franco, Seth Rogen and Zac Efron. Presented by Imran Mirza from London, UK, and Vahé Vishapakagh Koshayan from Melbourne, Australia, the duo delve into the cult phenomenon of 'The Room' (2003). Directed, written, produced and starring the enigmatic Tommy Wiseau, 'The Room' has since gone on to live in an unprecedented level of infamy - initially hailed as one of the worst films ever made, it's unmatched level of storytelling, disjointed narrative and poorly-received performances and dialogue have incredibly secured a loyal and devoted following making something of a sensation of the film's creator in the process. Famously immortalised by James Franco and company in the massively popular and award-winning 'The Disaster Artist' (2017), the film continues to find new audiences more than twenty years after its initial release. With Vahé a long time fan of the film and Imran just recently having seen it, tune in for a great conversation discussing the film's lore and legacy as well some standout scenes. We're also very excited about the show's original music in support of the conversation so please listen out for another Supple & Lean original - 'Tommy's In Control (The Room)' featuring Denny Dennington III. www.4everinelectricdreams.com/ Emanating from London, UK, the 4ever in Electric Dreams website and podcast network is designed to help us celebrate the things we loved growing up and the things that continue to excite and inspire us today. Halloween season 2024 on Tread Perilously is a celebration of witches, and the magical mischief begins with an episode of Bewitched called "To Trick-or-Treat or Not to Trick-or-Treat." When Endora discovers Sam is participating in a Trick-of-Treat For Unicef event that props up stereotypes about witches, the resulting fight with Darren leads her to transform him into the very tropes she despises. Will he be able to pitch a new presentation to an important client while looking more like Tommy Wiseau? Will Larry Tate finally learn the truth about Sam? And will Tabitha ever notice the family discord around her while getting ready to go trick-or-treating as a princess? Erik's appreciation of Endora finds a new dimension. A definitive answer to the Dick York/Dick Sargent debate is reached. An underlying theme of Bewitched is explored, even if the show cannot really dive into it. Justin deploys the best ad men at Sterling Cooper Price. He also has some notes for Tabitha actor Erin Murphy. Erik guesses Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF must've been fairly new when the episode aired. Dr. Leonard H. McCoy once again returns to The Alternative Factor. The pair try to explain the phenomenon that was Tiny Tim and the mystery of George Plimpton is solved.

What will you miss when you don't have little kids around? Birthdays during the summer are tough, but around our parts, Hops Bounce House has got you covered (what's up Hops!). Steven's got a secret 3d printing project (TELL US STEVEN), but instead of talking about secrets Steven's 3d printed some props for some Ahsoka cosplay, and I guess he's watching Black Sails. Ben makes a clever Starz joke. Ben and Devon wax poetic about One Piece (is it really just Farscape?). Ben prefers the anime of One Piece to the live action, though he's watched 60 episodes of the anime and 1 episode of the adaptation... maybe a larger sample size is needed. Ben's super excited for season 2 of Star Trek: Prodigy on Netflix this week. https://trekmovie.com/2024/06/30/catch-up-on-star-trek-prodigy-with-season-1-recap-and-season-2-preview/ Let's go way back: The Acolyte episodes 1-5. Steven's gotta talk about Star Wars, and we're here for it. There was a great Red Letter Media review about The Acolyte's first five episodes and you should watch it... maybe after you finish this episode. After watching that Red Letter Media review, Devon's intrigued and might actually watch... Farscape (DO IT! but wasn't this about The Acolyte?). The Acolyte is something new for Star Wars, which can be rare in this day and age. Forget the haters. Live long and prosper. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-6WBWmoVEY Multiverse of Madness: In defense of Madame Web. Imagine the Spiderverse with dialogue written by Tommy Wiseau, which actually isn't that bad, especially when compared with other superhero stinkers (looking at you every Fantastic Four film so far). Ben and his eleven year old really enjoyed the campiness of Madame Web, and we're kinda bummed they're not gonna make the sequels they were totally setting up. Book Club: The Black Pages by Nnedi Okorafor (part of Amazon's Black Stars collection of scifi short stories). A solid 4 out of 4 stars this week, but was it scifi? Or was it modern mythology? A djinn is reborn into an iPad app after her book is burned in an al-Qaeda raid on an ancient library, and the boy carrying the iPad is now way in over his head. This story has got so much going for it in 31 pages, and y'all should read it if you haven't already. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B098T11H5Qhttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58647675-the-black-pages In two weeks, Book Club will return with a longer novella. It's crazy to think that movies have existed for over 100 years... and in this episode, we're covering a film all way back from the 1920's. On top of that, it's also our first outing with Charlie Chaplin. So here is our review of the comedy-drama from the silent era, The Kid.  During our discussion of whether this made us laugh or cry, we also touch upon why this wasn't a Patreon pick, how beneficial 4K is to black and white film, morals of Tom and Jerry cartoons - and is Chaplin in fact the 1920's equivalent of Tommy Wiseau??  ------------------------------------------------------- Don't forget to follow us on social media in the links below, and let us know your thoughts and recommendations for the future!   instagram.com/sp_filmviewers twitter.com/SP_Filmviewers  letterboxd.com/SP_Filmviewers Rating and reviewing the show is a great help too! Well, it's happened. The listeners have spoken and for Filmjitsu's first "Sophie's Choice" poll of its modern era, the winner - which Jay had to watch and review - was Tommy Wiseau's 2003 so-bad-it's-good cult-classic, "The Room." The victor "tore apart" John Travolta's "Battlefield Earth" in its head-to-head match-up, but the bigger question is, will the guys be able to say anything that hasn't already been said about this sex-scene-filled, football-in-tuxedos, jogging-in-San-Fran affair? They try, and then follow-up the main review with their list of bottom five choices, which occur both inside and outside the world of their movies, before playing a challenging "cult-classics" edition of Kick Two, Pick Two. Be sure to keep an ear out for Jay's shocking revelation about the birth of his first son, which either left Mike impressed or deeply disturbed!

Joining the discussion is acclaimed filmmaker H.P. Mendoza, who shares how his evolving relationship with the movie brought him to a new place of sympathy for its creator. Then, celebrated filmmaker Erick Lorinc stops by to dig into why THE ROOM's reputation as one of “the worst movies ever” is unfairly assigned…and how its idiosyncrasies give it strength.
