Bombay starts it off by recalling the time he saw this movie as a kid and had an awkward exchange with a friend's mom during the infamous cake scene. Then the boys get things cookin' as they discuss how this may be not only Steven Seagal's overall best flick, but his most likeable performance. That comes partially because he takes a backseat to Tommy Lee Jones' delightfully unhinged bad guy role that sees him spouting off anti-establishment phrases while dressed as a '60s rocker. It helps that his right hand man is portrayed by the always deliriously delectable Gary Busey, who kills a commanding officer while in outrageous drag. Seagal's sidekick throughout the whole ordeal is the charmingly adorable Erika Eleniak who treats everyone to some gratuitous nudity in a scene that the guys argue may be Top 5 most replayed scenes of the VCR era. Add in Andrew Davis' assured action direction, that features Seagal delivering some all-time brutal kills for a studio film, and you have an unforgettable action movie, and episode.

With an extra week in August, Tread Perilously re-opens the Grab Bag for an extra verse in The Ballad of John D. Cort -- the Baywatch episode called "Shark Derby." The annual shark season is a little bit more robust than usual with sightings more common and local restaurateur Bucky sponsoring a shark derby. Contestants, which include John D. Cort, Eddie, Captain Thorpe, and Hobie, must bring in the largest shark possible. But Mitch, always wary of Bucky, doubts the increasing shark population is a coincidence. It's DIE HARD on a battleship! Phil and Liam take a deep dive into choppy waters as they analyze UNDER SIEGE (1992), one of the earliest (and best) action films to directly replicate the classic DIE HARD formula. In this instance, Steven Seagal stars as Casey Ryback, a former Navy SEAL turned ship's cook, who springs into action when the USS Missouri is seized by traitorous terrorists looking to hijack its nuclear arsenal…and mayhem swiftly ensues! First off, the boys place this movie in its wider cultural context, noting how this big budget picture marked a departure from the grimy urban thrillers that had been Seagal's stock and trade up to this point. Much of the credit for the film's success must go to director Andrew Davis, who had collaborated with Tommy Lee Jones on his previous film THE PACKAGE (1989) and would do so again on THE FUGITIVE (1993), the movie that helped propel Jones from a respected supporting actor into a global movie star. Given the film's premise, there's ‘Die Hard DNA' all over the place, although the boys also discuss the fact that Ryback's elite military background distinguishes him from ‘the everyman' John McClane, in yet another notable variation of the ever-evolving action hero archetype. There's also plenty of enthusiasm here for the extraordinary performances of Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey as charismatic villains Strannix and Krill, and another chance to play Phil's favorite game: ‘Who's Your Favorite Terrorist?' Praise is also reserved for the subversive, satirical performance of Erika Eleniak as Playboy playmate Jordan Tate, who elevates a sexist, thankless role with her sly comedic choices. As always, the ‘Die Hard Oscars' provide plenty of entertainment value, along with (Liam's least favorite game) the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz, which features a real DIE HARD doozy this week! Another Tread Perilously Grab Bag month begins with an episode of Baywatch called "Muddy Waters." The Ballad of John D. Cort continues as Cort must make back a favor to Mitch by teaching the new class of lifeguards at Raging Waters in San Dimas, CA. But Cort, being Cort, pulls Eddie into the job, who in turn attracts the eye of a trainee and the ire of another. Mitch, meanwhile, plans for Hobie's class to visit Baywatch and Captain Thorpe seeks to fire Shauni after a photo of her at a guard tower ends up in a swimsuit calendar. Geography Corner starts early as Erik and Justin discuss Raging Waters in San Dimas, CA. They also take a break to discuss Ms. Marvel. Justin is still surprised Baywatch had a writers room. The pair also end up discussing the Scott Bakula classic, Color of Night, and the films of Clive Barker. The career of Monte Markham gets examined. Eddie once again ends up looking like the worst. Erik argues for Erika Eleniak 's talent as a TV actor. Captain Thorpe's descent into madness continues. Justin finally faces a full Mitch Buchannon storyline and theorizes how the presence of Cort would change Predator.

Justin and Erik are thrilled to return to the Ballad of John D. Cort, even if he's more douchebag than good guy this time around. Hobie proves to be more emotionally mature than Eddie, but his storyline still ends up in the hot seat. Erika Eleniak's qualities as a TV presence are examined. Justin suggests the notion of a biblically-accurate Saruman. Day and night once again fail to have meaning. Erik suggests the episode may be a backdoor pilot for a new series for John Allen Nelson, Parker Stevenson, and Billy Warlock. Also, the love affair with John Allen Nelson continues.
