As we continue our journey through the book of Jonah, we're reminded that prayer and repentance open the door to restoration. God didn't give up on Jonah, and He'll never give up on you!

We're starting a brand-new series on the Old Testament book of Jonah. Listen in as we start exploring the lessons we can learn from this reluctant prophet. In the first part of this series, we examine the consequences of disobedience and ask ourselves the hard-hitting question: 'In what area of my life am i running from the word of God?'
In this message from Jonah 1, Pastor Phil Ayres kicks off our new series in the book of Jonah. We run when God calls us out of comfort, when He challenges our prejudice, and when His mercy offends our sense of fairness. But the good news is that even when we run, God still pursues us.

This message was given by the late Rev. Howard E. Tucker, pastor of the former Calvary Presbyterian Church in Wilkinsburg, PA. He was a graduate of Wheaton College and Dallas Theological Seminary. The sermons were first broadcast on Pittsburgh's radio station, KDKA, during the fifties, sixties, and seventies. They can now be heard every Sunday evening on Pittsburgh's radio station WORD FM 101.5 or WORDFM.com at 9:45 PM, or 24/7 by typing in "Timeless Treasures from God's Word" in the search bar of your computer or smart phone. Pastor Tucker's son, Timothy, now voices the messages.
Many people are already somewhat familiar with the story of Jonah - which is not always a good thing. For a lot of us, our understanding of this epic story comes from childhood. But, the version of the book of Jonah that we were given as kids is not the whole story. In the first three sentences of the book we come face to face with the depth and complexity of this powerful book. It requires a different sort of focus and understanding to see that God is using the story of Jonah to reveal our own "Jonah-like" tendencies in our own lives.
A right relationship with God requires running toward repentance, not away from it. Disobedience is costly, and since God is in control, our faith should reflect trust, surrender, and alignment with His will. Scripture: Jonah 1
Ever felt like running away from God instead of toward Him? You're not alone — Jonah did too. This week, we're kicking off a brand new series, Running From God, by diving deep into the first three verses of the Book of Jonah. It's easy to think the Old Testament shows a harsh, angry God, while the New Testament shows a loving, merciful one. But what if God's character — full of mercy, grace, and justice — has always been the same? In today's message, we meet Jonah, a real prophet with a real choice: obey God's call to warn Nineveh… or run. Spoiler: he ran — and many of us still do the same today. Whether it's through avoiding church, ignoring God's Word, or fleeing from hard conversations, running from God only distances us from His heart for restoration and redemption. Don't miss this powerful reminder that even when we run, God still runs after us with His mercy. Scripture List: Jonah 1.1-3 2 Kings 14.25

Sermon from Sunday, February 16th, 2025 | Jonah | Running From God -- We all think we know the story of Jonah, but that's because our imagination has been shaped by the story of the whale. What if Jonah has nothing to do with a fish? What if the shortest, most sophisticated piece of literary satire in the library of Scripture is more like a mirror than a fable? What if the story is primarily about the surprising, and often frustratingly mysterious, mercy of God?

Jonah (Running Away or Running Toward God's Heart) - John Magill by Park Community Church
It's imperative for us to preach the good news of Jesus. Calling those running FROM God back to him for their salvation. It is also correct for us to examine our lives. Asking ourselves the question, “Am I running WITH God?”

Pastor Mark opens a new series with a message from Jonah 1.
Today we are beginning our new sermon series on the Book of Jonah. This is one of the most famous books in the entire bible. Not least because of the famous story of the “Great Fish” that swallows Jonah. Jonah is the story of a reluctant prophet. A prophet that rather runs from God rather than runs to God. Written in a satirical style, Jonah is a book of reversals. It is a Book that shows that God is not always who we think He is. He is Much Better and that is Good News for Us. Our hope and prayer is that God would use the Book of Jonah as a sign that points to the Good News of the Hope we have in the Life, Death, Burial, Resurrection, and Return of Jesus.Let's get ready to find hope in Jesus, by listening to this message.
