In this episode, Covert Fade and Alice Cheshire discuss the field of Positive Psychology, the concept of "subjective happiness," and uncover factors that contribute towards a sense of well-being. They discuss how the Jehovah's Witness religion hijacks some of these factors to make JW's feel content, how leaving the religion might cause us to lose some of these things, and how we can take them back! Lloyd Evans was a faithful Jehovah's Witness for most of his life—that is until he was liberated from his religious indoctrination by reason. Today, Lloyd is an atheist who helps other victims of his former faith leave the religion. He has written a fantastic book, “The Reluctant Apostate: Leaving Jehovah's Witnesses Comes at a Price,” and runs the website JWSurvey.org. In this episode, we talk about his personal story, the perniciousness of religious indoctrination, the isolation that apostates frequently go through, and of course, the uncanny parallels with Islam and ex-Muslims. Lloyd Evans is the founder of JWSurvey.org, a website that focuses on the problems with Jehovah’s Witnesses. For most of his life, Lloyd was a Witness. But that changed not too long ago. Now he’s trying to help others leave the faith. On a personal note, I’ve learned so much about the seedy underbelly of the religion by reading his work. We spoke with Lloyd about why JWs are suddenly getting more attention, the most painful aspect of leaving the faith, and the awful afterlife in store for those who didn't make the cut for the "chosen" 144,000.
