For they may say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you.' ” And the LORD asked him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. “Throw it on the ground,” said the LORD. So Moses threw it on the ground, and it became a snake, and he ran from it. “Stretch out your hand and grab it by the tail,” the LORD said to Moses, who reached out his hand and caught the snake, and it turned back into a staff in his hand. “This is so that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.” Romans 5:5 – “And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Romans 8:28 – “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

What if I told you that even legendary actresses, women who've been honored by the Queen, won Oscars, and are considered living legends, still talk about fear as a constant companion? In 2018, a documentary called "Nothing Like a Dame," featuring Dame Judi Dench, Dame Maggie Smith, Dame Eileen Atkins, and Dame Joan Plowright, revealed something profound: even the most accomplished performers in the world still grapple with fear, insecurity, and limiting beliefs. Today, I'm sharing what this film and these legendary women have to teach us about transforming fear into power and claiming the stages you're meant for. In this episode, we'll explore: Why fear doesn't disappear when you become successful, and why that's actually a good thing How these women's experiences relate to public speaking and leadership The difference between those who let fear stop them and those who transform fear into fuel Why there's no mold for what a speaker should be and how you can use your voice powerfully, not despite your imperfections, but because of your humanity More from Tricia Fast-track your path to big stages inside The Big Talk Accelerator Join me LIVE for my Free Monthly Workshop Explore my content and follow me on YouTube Follow me on Instagram Connect with me on Facebook Connect with me on LinkedIn Visit my website at TriciaBrouk.com

So obviously she had to wait until Monday. And then of course, Monday wasn't good either. Because there were leftovers. That's how starting works, doesn't it? It always feels like it should happen later. But here's the thing. Waiting doesn't get us anywhere. Today we're talking about why fear of starting feels so powerful and how you can finally take that first step, even when it feels scary. Welcome to the Christian Coaching School podcast. I'm your host, Doctor Leelo Bush. I'm a master coach, author, curriculum creator, and the number one authority on Spirit-led Christian coaching. I've trained tens of thousands worldwide since 2003. And if you are ready to uplevel your skills, find greater fulfillment, and employ the most powerful coaching available to mankind, let's go. Welcome to the Christian Coaching School podcast. I'm your host, Doctor Leelo Bush, and I'm so glad you're here with me today. Whether you're a long-time listener or if this is your first time joining us, you are in the right place. This is where we talk about Christian coaching, counseling, and life transformation from a biblical perspective, always with practical tools you can use right away. Today's episode is one I know will encourage you, because we're talking about overcoming the fear of starting, or what I call breaking the start barrier. Sometimes we can identify it as it's happening, and sometimes it happens unconsciously. But I believe any of us can fall victim to this. If you've ever had a God-given dream, an idea, or a goal you couldn't seem to begin, you're in the right place. This episode is going to help you move past fear, silence those voices that say you're not ready, and step forward in faith with courage. Starting anything new often feels like skydiving without a parachute. Our brains are wired to keep us safe, not to make us successful. That primitive part of our mind would rather you stay right where you are—comfortable, familiar, predictable. It's why your heart races and your inner voice starts shouting, “Danger!” the moment you think about beginning something new. I'll admit I've done the same thing. I delayed writing my first book for months because I told myself I didn't have the time to do it right. The truth? I had the time to do whatever was important to me, just like you do. I just hadn't made it a priority. And once it became a priority, I got it done. You might be familiar with my book, The Comprehensive Christian Coach Handbook. It's gotten great reviews, and now it's in its second edition. In case you'd like to read it, you can find it on Amazon and lots of other booksellers. You can either search the title or my name to find it, and I'll also put a link in the show notes for you. But here's the reality. Everybody feels constrained by something. In my case, it was lack of time. You might not feel ready for other reasons. Even those among us who look fearless on the outside have to battle that same dread. And let me be real with you—this message is for me as much as it is for you. You may know I've been in the online education industry for over 22 years now. Over that time, I've created programs, trained thousands, and built a strong institution. Since 2003, we have been early adopters in Christian coaching and creators of the Flow Spirit-led coaching model, and so much more. But here's something you probably don't know. There has been one particular piece of software I've had my eye on for nearly that entire time, and never fully mastered. Because of that, we haven't always grown to our full potential. Now, don't get me wrong—we are thriving and strong. But this one missing piece has been like a puzzle with only one corner done. Well, this past weekend I finally decided it was time. I immersed myself in learning it. Yes, I could have hired someone to do it, and I'm sure that would have been easier. But I believe at the core we need to understand the systems we rely on so that if something goes wrong, we can troubleshoot with confidence. And here's the good news. After nearly two decades of delay, it's finally complete. It's a major milestone that will make a huge difference in our reach. But I share these stories with you for a reason—because we all share the same challenges with starting. And sometimes, like me, we can put it off for months or years, even decades, when deep down we know it's important. My prayer for you is that your thing doesn't take 20 years to conquer like mine did. And this is where I love to lean on God's Word. Isaiah 41:10 says, “So do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you.” Isn't that liberating? You don't have to start alone. God is right there with you at the starting line, ready to support you when you obediently step into your calling. And speaking of stepping into what God has called you to do, this is exactly why I am so passionate about equipping you to serve with confidence in your calling. Right now is enrollment season for our Christian coaching, counseling, and specialty coaching training and certification programs. These are the very courses that give you the skills, tools, and credentials to help others create transformation while growing in your own walk and purpose. If you've been feeling that nudge from the Lord to step forward in your calling, this is the perfect time to say yes. You can find all the details and enroll today at pccca.org/courses. Let's get you trained, certified, and ready for God to promote you to make an even greater kingdom impact. Now let's talk about what fear of starting can look like in our everyday lives. Because it doesn't just make you hesitate. It whispers lies that sound almost believable. Fear tells you you're not ready, so you wait, thinking you'll start when you're smarter, richer, thinner, or more prepared. But here's the truth—readiness is not something that comes before the journey. It's something that develops along the way. Fear also says you need to know everything before you begin. But life doesn't work like a GPS that shows you the entire route. More often, God gives you just the next turn. You step out, and then the path ahead becomes clear. Action brings clarity. Waiting only brings more waiting and missing out on opportunities. And then there's the big one: “If you fail, it'll be a disaster.” Fear paints the worst-case scenario—people will laugh, you'll lose everything. But failure isn't final. It's actually a learning experience. Either we succeed or we learn something. It's sometimes even more valuable than succeeding right away. It builds character and demonstrates your obedience to God. I didn't understand this when I was young. Each time I would try and fail at something, I would suffer with failure shame, when it was actually part of my growth into the person I am today. Not a bad thing at all, but because I didn't know that then, I wasted a lot of time worrying about it. Thankfully, it didn't stop me from trying. The truth is, most of the time nobody is even paying attention as closely as you think, and when you stumble, it's feedback—not the end. Fear exaggerates. It invents stories that are bigger than reality. It's like a bad fortune teller that never gets it right, yet we keep listening. The good news is, we don't have to believe those lies anymore. So if fear is whispering lies, how do you break through and finally begin? The first step is to shrink the action down to something so small it's almost laughable. If you want to write a book, type a single sentence. If you want to run a marathon, put on your sneakers and walk to the mailbox. Small steps disarm fear because they're hard to argue with. The second key is to stop keeping it to yourself. Fear loves silence. It thrives in isolation. But the moment you speak your goal out loud—whether to a trusted friend, a mentor, or even in a small online group—you begin to create accountability. Suddenly, you're not just thinking about it. You're moving toward it. And third, remember momentum. Think of fear like a huge boulder sitting in the road. The hardest part is moving it that first inch. But once it starts rolling, you don't need nearly as much effort to keep it going. Your job isn't to move the boulder a mile today. It's just to nudge it forward an inch. One inch today, another tomorrow. And before long, fear is no longer in charge. One of my favorite tools is what author Mel Robbins calls the Five-Second Rule. You count down: five, four, three, two, one—and then you act. You don't debate. You don't overthink. You just move. And that tiny action, taken quickly, often opens the door for a bigger breakthrough. Breaking what I call the start barrier isn't about erasing fear. It's actually about refusing to let fear have the loudest voice in the room. You'll never feel completely ready. I don't, and you don't have to. Courage is not the absence of fear. It's choosing to move forward in spite of it. And once you begin, momentum takes over. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” Notice it doesn't say wait until you have the perfect plan or the perfect resources. It says commit. Start. Step out in faith. And as you do, God moves pieces into place that you could never have arranged on your own. So here's my challenge for you today: don't wait for the perfect Monday, or the perfect circumstances, or the perfect plan. Take one small step toward the thing God has been nudging you to do. Just one. Maybe it's sending that email, or opening a notebook, or making a phone call, or visiting our courses page. Whatever it is, don't overthink it. Just start. Because the sooner you begin, the sooner you'll see God multiply your efforts. And remember, I'm saying this to myself just as much as I'm saying it to you. This is a message I need too. But together we can stop waiting, stop delaying, and start walking forward into the calling God has for us. I'm Doctor Leelo Bush, and you've been listening to the Christian Coaching School podcast. Use what you learned today and carry it into the lives of those who need it most. And I'll meet you in the next episode. Before you go, I want to personally invite you to join our private Facebook group, The Courageous Christian Coaching Tribe. From “I'm Too Afraid to Guest” to “Put Me on the Mic!” – My Tips for Overcoming Fear of Podcast Guesting"Podcast guesting sounds great, Candace... but what if I'm too scared to speak on them?"If you've ever asked that question, you are so not alone. In fact, it's probably the most common hesitation I hear from entrepreneurs who want to grow their business—but feel paralyzed when it comes to putting their voice out there. In this solo episode, I'm talking you through:
In this episode of Fishing Without Bait, host Jim Ellermeyer and co-host Mike explore the difference between spirituality and organized religion and what it truly means to nurture your spirit. Together, they revisit the timeless teachings of Jesus, focusing on his central message of love, compassion, and self-discovery — a message that's often been overshadowed by societal control, rigid traditions, and centuries of interpretation. We'll discuss: • Why spirituality is about personal connection rather than institutional rules. • The two greatest commandments Jesus taught and why they free us from fear. • Insights from alternative gospels like Thomas and Mary Magdalene that emphasize the divine spark within. • How to embrace mindfulness, self-validation, and inner freedom in your daily life. Jim challenges us to see the divine within ourselves and others, and to choose kindness, forgiveness, and mindful living as a way of nurturing that spark.

Dr. Klaus Kleinfeld – the only person to serve as CEO of two Fortune 500 companies on different continents (Alcoa in the US, Siemens in Germany), global advisor, founder of K2 Elevation, angel investor, and author of Leading to Thrive. First Dollars & Early Hustle: At 12, worked illegally at a supermarket in Germany, later launched a Santa Claus business delivering gifts (and family messages!) on Christmas Eve. Early work taught the value of money, the realities of management at all levels, and why people must create and be paid for value. Mindset Developed by Adversity: Father died at age 10, grew up with a strong sense of self-reliance and urgency to earn. Immigrant family background; learned that “money is freedom” and that every dollar earned created options. Time spent with East German relatives instilled the lesson that money only matters if it can actually buy value. Spiritual & Emotional Energy: Foundation in faith (Protestant roots) was a crucial “anchor” through hard times and later in life. Dr. Kleinfeld's new book, Leading to Thrive, stresses the four types of energy: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Advocates for not shying away from love, gratitude, and faith even in the corporate world—even if those topics are often taboo at the boardroom level. Career Guidance & Advancement: Career wasn't about status, but about maximizing freedom and value creation. The path to more money: “Money comes in exchange for creating value—become indispensable and you'll gain negotiating power.” Focus less on salary and more on skill acquisition; become a self-starter and continually improve. Key mantra: “Love it, change it, or leave it.” Life is too short to waste in situations without progress or fulfillment. Overcoming Fear and Stagnation: Don't let fear (False Expectations Appearing Real) keep you “stuck”—analyze the true risks, and realize that most bad outcomes never materialize. Lessons from high performers: It's about energy management (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual), not mere time management. Embrace continuous experimentation and agile adjustments—failure is just feedback and learning (Edison paradigm: every failed attempt is progress). Legacy and Regret: Biggest regrets from those at the end of life: not being truer to themselves and not choosing happiness sooner. See happiness as a daily, conscious choice, not something to seek only at the end. Dr. Kleinfeld's Actionable Advice: Focus on increasing your value to others—money follows value. Regularly reassess: “Love it, change it, or leave it.” Invest in managing your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual energy. Don't let fear dictate your story—break it down and act despite uncertainty. Read and learn from others (“Books condense a lifetime into a few hours—take the shortcut!”). In this episode of Breakaway Wealth Podcast, Jim sits down with Jill Schulman—US Marine veteran and positive psychology expert—to break down the science of bravery and why action - not motivation - moves outcomes. They map a practical path to confront fear, build daily reps, and apply courage to business and money decisions. 3 Key Takeaways: Bravery reframed: not heroics, but voluntary action in the presence of fear toward a worthwhile goal; most modern fear is social (failure, rejection, embarrassment), amplified by a comfort-first culture. Action over fear: use graded exposure and “mastery experiences” (Bandura) to build self-efficacy; schedule the hard task early, track behaviors not outcomes, and let consistency—not motivation—carry the work. Environment and systems: build a “brave tribe” to leverage conformity effects; apply PERMA (Positive emotion, Engagement/flow, Relationships, Meaning, Accomplishment) to raise performance; treat early failures as required feedback on the way to results. Thanks to Jill for outlining a clear model for building bravery and putting it to work! If this episode moved you to act, take one small step today and track it. The other day I saw this video of a professor talking about cringe culture—how being openly hopeful, positive, or ambitious somehow makes you the human equivalent of a “kick me” sign. Better to be nihilistic, detached, and “cool” than risk being seen trying. And you know what? She's right. We've built a culture where fear is fashionable. Fear of being judged. Fear of being canceled. Fear of failing so hard that you leave a crater. But here's the truth: fear's only job is to keep you bland and “safe.” It's that smoke detector that screams at burnt toast. It's the backseat driver telling you to stay home and eat dry cereal instead of risking rejection, ridicule, or (God forbid) being seen. Here's the dirty secret nobody tells you: everyone's afraid. The artists you admire? Afraid. Your favorite musicians? Nervous wrecks before a show. Even Beyoncé probably has a moment backstage wondering if her dress is too sparkly. The difference is—they act anyway.Fear has never written a book, painted a canvas, or built a business. It just sits there with its arms crossed, muttering “don't.” The only way to shut it up is to do it anyway.Start small. Post one piece of art. Play your song for one friend. Sell one hot dog. Each step is a hammer swing breaking the chains that hold you back.Because you're not here to live small. You're here to make noise, make messes, screw up, learn, and grow. Fear will always be in the car—just don't let it drive.

Pastor Charlene teaches on the scriptural ways to overcome various kinds of fear.
We're bringing back a fan favorite episode from the Buddhism for Everyone archives with an exploration of fear, anxiety, and bravery. Fearlessness is often spoken of in Buddhist teachings, but here we go beyond the idea of simply “being brave” to uncover how the Buddha understood fear itself. Together, we'll look at what causes fear, the antidotes that dissolve it, and how we can tap into the quiet courage already within us. In Buddhism, there is a distinction between skillful fear and unskillful fear. Skillful fear can protect us. An example of skilful fear is noticing a subway train barreling down the tracks and stepping back. But unskillful fear? That's the kind that traps us, limits us, and leads to actions that cause suffering. In this beloved episode, we explore unskillful fear and how to meet it with wisdom, compassion, and practical tools for everyday life. We also examine the common forms unskillful fear takes, such as: Fear of things that may or may not happen Fear of the inevitable changes of life, like aging Fear for the safety or happiness of those we love This episode has been replayed again and again by listeners who say it's brought them peace, clarity, and even a little spark of bravery. On this episode of The Free Outside Podcast, I'm joined by White Mountains legend and community builder Andrew Drummond to dive deep into the Direttissima—an FKT linking all 48 of New Hampshire's 4,000-foot peaks in one unsupported push. Think Nolan's 14 but with more rocks, more bushwhacks, and significantly more emotional damage. We cover Andrew's recent sub-5-day effort, the strategic "feathering" of effort in multi-day sufferfests, and why hiking in the Whites feels like the trail is actively trying to kill you. We also talk about the evolution of FKTs, the importance of local knowledge, and why the Beast Coast terrain is no joke.Andrew reflects on building a community through Ski the Whites and Run the Whites, putting on grassroots events, and embracing failure as a necessary—and often hilarious—step in the process.Whether you're an FKT nerd, an East Coast trail masochist, or just want a glimpse into what makes the White Mountains so special (and spicy), this one's for you.Presented by:

In the opening sermon of the Name Your Shark series, Pastor Curt Taylor invites us to confront the “sharks” in our lives, our deepest fears and anxieties. Drawing from Scripture, he demonstrates how faith isn't about being fearless, but about recognizing that God is with us even when fear feels overwhelming. Pastor Curt gave practical steps to identify and “name” your fears, which takes the first step toward conquering them. He encouraged to speak your fears into the light, replace them with God's truth, and move forward with renewed courage and purpose.

In this episode, we cover: Slow building progress continues, but the slower pace has allowed for more thoughtful, intentional decisions Finalized historic design elements like trim profiles, wall materials, and appliance choices— finding excitement in the progress even if it's gradual Chimneys are now bricked and the garage is roofed with wide-seamed metal that perfectly fits the historic vibe— a happy surprise with no overthinking! Main house will feature cedar shake roofing, while the porches and additions have metal to embrace the “old house with add-ons” story Reflections on how proportions, window placement, and overall structure are beautifully bringing to life the original vision of a “new old house” Pregnancy update at 34 weeks: similar symptoms and baby position as past pregnancies, feeling confident and ready Choosing minimal prenatal interventions— tracking iron and glucose at home, keeping midwife visits sparse Sharing our personal approach to open windows with no screens or storm doors for an indoor-outdoor connection Thoughts on Doppler use in labor and delivery— balancing caution with practical monitoring when needed View full show notes on the blog + watch this episode on YouTube.
