In today's episode, I have the pleasure of inviting Rustom Patel. Rustom love affair with two-wheelers and passion for motorsports is not unknown. His is a name that hardly needs an introduction. Eight times Indian National Champion and 275 trophies are his prized possessions – that reflect his love and passion for two-wheelers. He started working on his beloved sport at a very young age, fulfilled several of his dreams, and has a bike training school in India to produce International stature bikers. In Rustom Patel's apartment, in the old, Art Deco-inspired Parsi neighborhood in Byculla, hangs a framed picture of him from 2001. It's easy to miss, hanging as it does amidst a jungle of brass – cups, shields, awards, mementos, citations – he has collected over a lifetime of racing atop two wheels. Over the years, it colonized all the shelf space in his apartment and threatened the cutlery in the kitchen. And this is just the metal he has collected. His brother Zubin and his cousin Kaizad, have a similar need for industrial quantities of Brasso – the brothers Patel have dominated the sport of motocross racing and off-road biking in India, from the late '80s to the late 2000s. The "Patels of Racing" they were called, and if you were a young speed junkie gunning the throttle for glory in those times, it was always a little annoying to see a Patel in the lineup. Rustom is currently KTM India Factory Rider, Brand Ambassador for Castrol Biking, and is the Racing India Head coach for Ajmera Realty.

One of the distinct pleasures myself and a lot of other people enjoy is smoking a cigar while out on the range. I see it a lot at shooting competitions. I’ve also seen it after tactical classes. There is something about the concept of enjoying the cigar with friends that can’t be smoked in a hurry. I really don’t know where cigars and shooting came together, but it is something that my guest today knows a lot about. Kaizad Hansotia grew up in India with a love of watches and firearms. He ended up buying a dying cigar company for under $200 and made it into one of the top cigar brands in the world. Gurkha Cigars is named after the legendary fighters from Nepal who fought for the British in numerous wars. Their spirit is what drives Kaizad to constantly make top rated blends that sometime sell for thousands of dollars. Along the way he made connections to the SEAL Teams and made a special cigar for them to travel with overseas. In fact his passion for firearms paired Gurkha and Grey Ghost Precision (a company who makes high end rifles and pistols) to design a limited edition rifle up to Kaizad’s specifications. In this episode we explore the nexus between cigars and shooting, how Kaizad made his success as well as a primer on how to go about getting into cigar smoking. Granted I know some people hate the smell of cigars, but I have to say, sharing a smoke with some scotch and a group of friends is never a bad thing. This week Bob and Dale are joined by special guest Bill Featherton, a long-time listener.Cigar of the Week - Panacea Green Label ToroOver a year in the making, the Panacea Green label uses a specially fermented Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper to balance out a triple Ligero filler in a very exciting 2010 release from Flatbedcigars.com.Dark Side - HOYO DE MONTERREY LE HOYO DU GOURMETOrigin: Cuba Manufactured: Hand MadeGauge: Thin Length: 170Format: Palma Ring: 33Weight: 6,76 gr. Presentation: Slide lid box of 25"Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo du Gourmet" Review:Discontinued in 2002, this cigar has what some call the "experts" size, long and slim. With a peculiar creamy sweetness, Le Hoyo du Gourmet needs to be smoked slowly so that it does not overheat, what would give the cigar a different taste than it was meant to have.Herf Line Reviews - If you call and leave a cigar review on the herf line and it is played on the show, you will receive a DogWatch Cigar Radio patch! You can reach the Herfline at 321-594-4373 - or cigar.radio on Skype. You can also send email to theshow@cigarmedia.tv.Origin of the term HERF: From Cigar Craig, http://cigarcraig.wordpress.com/2009/09/29/the-origin-of-the-word-herf/What else have you been smokin' Dale? Bow Tie Green - my last sample from BowTie Cigars, a light Conny Shade wrapped rubusto without that typical airy-grassy flavor I usually find from that wrapper. Mild bodied, lots of cedar & leather flavors and smooth. Not much complexity, but far better balanced then the other two lines. Good mid-morning cigar I'd recommend to mild cigar lovers.Famous Nicaragua 3000, 2008 - Dark flavors have smoothed over time - coffee, cocoa and some of that meaty savoryness all still come through with that Nic Zing. Still one of my favorite everyday cigars. What else have you been smokin' Bob? Padron 1926 Torpedo - What a beautiful box pressed cigar this is. Foot aroma was distinctive barnyard. It's a complicated smoke - I mean with three bands to remove, it almost took an engineering degree to get them off with the overlap and wrap around....Gurhka Triad Churchill 7x52 - Adorned with a 10-year-old Connecticut Ecuadorian wrapper around a 7-year-old Dominican binder and a 7-year-old Nicaraguan/Honduran filler, this is one of the smoothest cigars you may ever smoke. Kaizad only made 300 boxes of these and they are a special treat. Great medium-to-mild cigar with toasty flavors of leather and sweet spices.Whats My Band - #920 from Liz, Padilla CazadoresBob - I had high expectations at the beginning of this cigar because of its light barnyard pre-aroma and good flavors of slightly bitter dry grasses. But the excitement faded as the cigar began to burn lopsided and the flavors got decidedly sour and the stench of poorly fermented tobacco came out. Could not wait to put this one down.Do you have a suggestion for the unbanded cigar of the week? Every week Bob and Dale include an “unbanded cigar” segment in their show in which they smoke a cigar without any markings and give their honest opinions. Bob then opens a sealed envelope and discovers the cigar’s name and manufacturer. If you have suggestions for the "What's My Band?" segment, please send them to liz@cigarmedia.tv.July Palio Cutter Contest Winner: Robert Brown. The August prize will be a gold Palio cutter!
