The Seven Summits are considered one of the greatest challenges in mountaineering worldwide. It takes some effort to to conquer the highest peaks on all seven continents. Imagine doing that as double above-knee amputate! Well that's the extraordinary achievement of Nepalese-British adventurer Hari Budha Magar who recently made history, again, by reaching the summit of Mount Vinson in Antarctica, thus successfully completing his “Seven Summits” mission. He tells us about is extraordinary story from the depths of despair to literally being on top of the world.The first Winter Paralympics were held in the Swedish town of Örnsköldsvik in 1976. Nearly two-hundred competitors came from 16 countries. We hear from two blind skiing competitors with very different experiences - Finnish multi-gold medallist, Pertti Sankilampi, and Londoner Mike Brace, who learnt his sport shortly before the Games.Paralympic gold medallist Matt "The Armless Archer" Stutzman is back with a new series of his podcast Rising Phoenix. This time his focus is on the extraordinary tales of winter Paralympians. But could we ever see Matt on the slopes? Krishnam Thapa Magar is globally respected for blending elite military leadership with world-class mountaineering and inspirational personal development.Thapa Magar was one of only two Gurkhas from the Royal Gurkha Rifles to pass the highly selective entry to the British Special Forces, serving as head of the SAS Mountain Troops. He operated on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan, demonstrating exceptional leadership under pressure, and was the first serving Warrant Officer to summit both Everest and K2. Krishna Thapa holds nine world-first records in mountaineering, including leading the largest summit group ever to Everest, and making pioneering ski descents from peaks such as Dhaulagiri. He has guided and inspired climbers from diverse backgrounds, including amputees, the visually impaired, and Parkinson's disease sufferers, on expeditions around the globe—it's not just about the climbing but about enabling others to overcome adversity. Thousands of people across Australia gathered to share a minute's silence at Remembrance Day services across the country on Tuesday, 11 November 2025. SBS Nepali spoke with veterans about the significance of this day and how younger generations reflect on it. Currently a defence analyst in private practice, Ranjit Shamsher Jung Bahadur Rana, who has been living in Adelaide since 1978, shared his insights. Rana, who joined the Australian military as a Private on October 10, 1980, said he was affiliated with the 16th Air Defence Regiment Workshop based in South Australia. Similarly, Sydney-based former Gurkha soldier Shyam Bahadur Gurung, who came to Australia in 1989, also shared his thoughts. Gurung said he served in the British Army for about 15 years. The corporal also recalled serving in the Brunei conflict during the 1960s and living in Hong Kong and England before eventually settling in Australia. The 26th Gurkha Nepalese Community (GNC) Football Cup concluded in Sydney on Sunday, 13 April, with St George Nepalese Club securing a 2-0 victory over Fewa Football Club, marking their second consecutive win. Kenton sits down to talk to Hem Rana, a remarkable man who 'got the running bug' after going along to a park run six years ago and has since completed multiple ultras. Hem talks to Kenton about his childhood in Nepal and his application to join the Gurkhas. He remains a serving Gurkha today and has lived in the UK for 27 years working for a variety of Gurkha regiments attached to the British Army. Hem used to run only because he had to, for fitness tests and PT sessions, but in 2019 he tried his local park run (5km) and loved it. Out of curiosity, he gradually built up his distances, moved from road to trail, and developed his confidence. He tells Kenton that he has completed several 100 milers, the Winter Spine race (twice!), UTMB and the Bob Graham Round, to name a few.
