Do you love Jamming? We have all seen or done it school and colleges. The most exciting and fun part about it is the way everyone starts singing, humming, clapping, dancing, in short enjoying or celebrating with the simple guitar play.ScoopWhoop has been around for a while and they have been producing different types of online content. The one that I have been enjoying recently is ScoopWhoop Cafe where they have been doing jamming on Bollywood Songs, Shahrukh Khan songs, Kishore Kumar Songs, 90s TV Shows, Lucky Ali and multiple other themes. What I love about these videos is the simplicity and earnestness with which they put up each one. 8 episodes out so far and I have enjoyed each one. Each one will bring you nostalgia like we get during jamming. So, which one is your favourite?ScoopWhoop Café: https://bit.ly/scoopwhoopcafeHave you watched this series? What's your review? Some Classics are better left untouched. We have so many so many examples in Bollywood where under the pretext of recreation, we murder the original creation.I am wondering what was the brief given to the gifted Director Gifty for the song Urvashi. T-Series has tried to recreate the cult classic by A.R. Rehman and Prabhdeva with Honey Singh and Shahid Kapoor.Did they first decide on the song or did they have Big Boy Toyz, Hungama and Boat approach T-Series for their brand promotion, so, T-Series decided on picking any song, any actors, any dance moves and any director; and Urvashi came out on the random selection. There is no "Muqabala" between this and the original in terms of music and especially in terms of dance or storyline, so, I would avoid commenting on that.Behemoth like T-Series can release any crappy song and considering the YouTube followers they can get more than 33 mn hits in less than a week. What do you think should be done in such instances?Urvashi - https://youtu.be/0VwgpYJ4q38The Original - https://youtu.be/dkedupX73xsHave you watched this song? What's your review? Good music inspires us, and we have heard numerous songs that are inspired from others, some are official remake, some are recreation of the classics, but majority are copy in the name of inspiration. I would rather not get in to this sensitive topic that has hurt great musicians like Pritamda, Anu Malik, Bappida etc.Things get tricky when you get inspired by your own good craft to create another one. R.D. Burman created 4 different songs on 1 hit tune, Anu Malik, Anand Milind and many more have done it too. Would you call it lack of creativity or doing what's tried and tested or leveraging on existing asset? Meet Brothers and Monali Thakur gave us really good number Cham Cham Cham in the Tiger and Shraddha starer Baaghi, this song has 329 million views only on YouTube. So, without doubt it's proven to be a superhit. To capitalise on the Navratri fever, they have come up with Shy Mora Saiyaan, which to me seemed inspired from Cham Cham Cham music. Original being far better.Monali acts as cupid in the song, apart from singing it, getting Tejaswini and Manjul together. Song starts with lines from popular Gujarati garba song and ends in Mandap where garba is happening. The song was released on 1-Oct and in a week it's registered close to 8 mn views.Shy Mora Saiyaan - https://youtu.be/vZNb8Yz5bsACham Cham Song - https://youtu.be/f6vY6tYvKGAHave you watched this song? Do you think there is too much good content to watch on the internet?Netflix launching new things almost every week. Amazon Prime doing it at least twice a month, Hotstar streaming the latest episodes of your favourite shows, HBO coming out with their mind blowing specials and airing the most awaited and widely downloaded shows; do you think there is not enough time to catch up on all this entertainment? Simple solution, this is entertainment, not your life. Unless you are in the field of entertainment. Even then it's important that you focus on your craft. Entertainment is a break from the usual or routine of life. You watch what you like, others may be saying it's the greatest show on planet Earth, but if you don't like it, don't force yourself to watch it. Why should have FOMO for not watching entertainment? Because you are not able to talk about it when the group is discussing? That's fine, you are able to listen to their views, thoughts or perspectives. So, have ambition, goals, have a plan and enjoy & celebrate life. We have enough. End of the day it's just entertainment.Quick update on the latest in the online entertainment.- College Romance - YouTube- Home - Jio Cinema- Zindabad - Jio Cinema- Harmony - Amazon Prime- Good Vibes - Sony Live- Banned - Viu- Ready 2 Mingle - YouTube- Better Life Foundation - Hotstar- Zee Film Festival - Zee5Please let me know your thoughts about the episode or any questions by commenting below. Like reunions other people keep getting added slowly Ave steadily to the group and add to experiences. Also like reunions this one doesn't have any specific outcomes or objectives apart from connecting people. While it takes you through a journey of these friends who meet after 10 years in this 10 episode series and has some emotional moments and kinda reunion farewell speech, for me it lacked heart. The Reunion - bit.ly/reunionwebseriesHave you watched this webseries? Webseries Social covers 3 Tropical issues we are facing today:- Pros & Cons of Social Media- Human Trafficking for Sex Slavery- Masked MovementThere enough of videos, blog posts or research around the upside as well as downside of social media, Social shows you how to create a movement. We have also had other shows on human trafficking, this adds the flavour of tech with hacking and online auction. Lastly, Anonymous hacker group and multiple mask movement have been witnessed, we have Indian version of it in Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, Social got me thinking why do we need such approach.Rana gives heft to Vikram Sampath with his personality. I did this for Family. This is the answer we have heard in many movies and shows or at times in real life also when people are asked to justify their wrong actions. For most of us, key motivation for actions first if self and then family. Yeh Meri Family is the show to create complete nostalgia, emotions and bring our childhood memories back. This is 7 episode series around Harshu's 1998 Summer vacation. Show revolves around Harshu and his family. Different episodes are focused on different family members. First episode is around Harshu Ave setting the context of the family in Jaipur and the time of 1998. Second one is focused on Mother Third one on Father Fourth on Elder Brother Fifth on Younger Sister Sixth on his Love Interest Seventh is full circle and brings it back on Harshu. It seemed like TVF had lost its mojo based on the last couple of shows, but this one is clearly gets them redemption. This one has been in scripting for almost 2 years by Saurabh Khanna. Brilliant & Sensitive direction by Sameer Saxena. Perfect casting by Casting Bay and the music also plays a great role. Song by Udit Narayan will surely get you nostalgic. This show is a must watch with entire family to get emotional, nostalgic and connect more with each other. You would want to relive those childhood memories and become kid again. Yeh Meri Family - bit.ly/yehmerifamily Have you watched this webseries? What's your review? In Mahabharat, Arjun dropped his weapons telling Krishna, how can I fight against my family. Krishna's updesh to him, which we know as Gita, was this is Dharma Yuddh, where Dharma comes first, you need to destroy the evil, bad doers whether they are family or not. This is the key message of the short film Nitishastra. Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Arora are in the lead role as siblings. Roshni (Taapsee) teaches girls self-defense techniques, so that they can protect themselves. Ravi (Vicky) is her younger brother, being an elder sister she shares a great bond with him. Why should Boys have all the fun? Engineering colleges in India means major population of boys. That's why movies around that theme shows guys in the lead role. Girls are far and few and mostly stereotyped. Slowly & steadily this trend seems to be changing. This is not the complete review, it's just the First Impression based on first episode of webseries Engineering Girls. It's definitely off to a good start and the animated title sequence of around 1 min which comes after firecrackers are bursted in girls hostel, gives you a glimpse of what to expect. Is it ok to lie to help someone? I am not referring to the innocent lies we say when being asked, how do I look? How is the food? Am I growing fat? Amazon Prime commissioned OML to create 14 Stand-up specials last year. After a very good reception, this year we are seeing webseries created by stand-ups. One of the very successful stand-up special has been Zakir Khan's Haqse Single, Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare is created to capitalize on his popularity. Set in Indore around Ronnie (Zakir Khan), his two friends Anwar & Kranti and the love of his life Avantika. To create an impression on people, to get things done, he says that local MLA (Vidhayak) is his paternal uncle. This series is a fun journey of aimless wanderer Ronnie who is willing to do anything to help Avantika or others and how his actions get him into confrontation with the Vidhayak. Season 1 is used to set up Ronnie and it leaves us with interesting possibilities for season 2. This one reminded me of Kundan Shah and Shahrukh Khan's 90s movie Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na. This is review of Sujoy Ghosh's short film Ahalya. I loved the modern interpretation. It was even more interesting to see how it is connected with the original story line. this one made me think about what was the thinking and the rationale and what message the movie intends to give. Left me with mind puzzling possibility. What I liked about this movie is the message it carries and the way you can interpret it. There are multiple interpretations possible. (1) Ahalaya and Gautam Sadhu are trapping people and making them in to dolls. Why are they doing it? Maybe because they are evil and possess evil powers. This is where they are bad. (2) All the people that come to this haunted house gets converted in to doll, but why are people coming to this place? Maybe all of them came with different needs, but in the short film they couldn't cover that. And now coming to the interpretation that really appealed to me, even though they say this is a modern take on Ahalaya's story, I feel the way it is presented is really good. (3) Men rape/molest women and we have seen umpteen cases in the recent past, the main sufferer has been women, similar to Ahalaya's story where because of Indra, she was cursed to turn in to stone. So, here Gautam Rishi (Sadhu) and Ahalaya try to test morality of man by trying to seduce them and see if they give in. To create a protective shield, Ahalaya is blessed by Gautam Rishi that anyone who tries to get intimate with her will turn in to doll. That's the punishment. So, if Indra Sen wouldn't have given in to the temptation of enjoying time with Ahalaya, he wouldn't have turned in to doll. Ahalya - https://youtu.be/Ff82XtV78xo Have you watched this short film? Sex is taboo word in India especially in front of kids where we normally tend to say that babies are gift of God when asked how babies are born. The delicate age of 7 to 12 comes with lots of inquisitiveness and questions, if not answered correctly, it will leave your kid uneducated. There is an art and science to have sex chat with your kids while covering following topics: - Masterbation, Pregnancy, Condoms, Periods and Homosexuality. Can you explain these with simple analogy of cricket, technology and things around us? Beauty lies in the simplicity with each of these are explained in a fun way without getting vulgar in Sex chat with Pappu aur Papa. Brilliant performances by Kabir Sajid, Anand Tiwari, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Alka Amin and Sachin Pilgaonkar. It's made possible with the well written screenplay by Gopal Datt and Devang Kakkad. Awesome concept from Anand Tiwari and Amritpal Bindra. This webseries is Directed by Ashish Patil. Can someone offer you good luck? It's not blessings, not prayers and as they say in the short film not a black magic. What price are you willing to pay for it? The four letter word that excites and attracts most human beings, Free is the cause of many addictions as well as sufferings that we have today. I am not going in to the whole contraversy around social media. The premise of this short film is the price one has to pay to get good luck post the free trial is over. How we get excited by free or free trial and ignore what happens post that. Why do we rely on someone else giving us good luck than our own ability? Tina Desai has played the role of Jenny really well. Kunal Roy Kapoor maintains his poker face as a salesman of Good luck. Darshan Jariwala does his job as cop. This is written and directed by Sujoy Ghosh, seemed a little incomplete and unexplained. Without understanding the logic and rationale as well as how the entire thing works, it limits the experience. Overall, I loved the Teen Paheliyan experience, we should have more of these. Star has done it in the past, where they had roped in big name directors to make 40 to 50 mins films. There is definitely a big audience base for it now. Thank You Sujoy Ghosh for the entire experience. Looking forward to more intense ones. Humanoids or Robots are the most complex piece of programming and creation by human beings, but we have a lot to learn from them about the simplicity with which they follow the basic rules of human interactions and relationships. This topic is covered in multiple movies like iRobot, Robot, Anukul or as old as Terminator 2. Humans are the most complex creation of God. While we have created Robots, we have programmed them with relationship quotient, but we don't follow the same due to the clutter in our minds. We can learn lot from them to lead harmonious life. Vikrant Massey is very expressive actor, he is the heart of this short film. Surveen and Anupriya play the role given to them. The short film could have been tighter, but it's good experiment dealing with the complex topic. Wait for the twist in the end. Have you heard of Gastrologer? What happens when your special ability becomes the cause of big loss? These questions are explored in Part 1 of 3 part series of this podcast special on Sujoy Ghosh's short films trilogy Teen Paheliyan. Have you watched these short films? What's your feedback? Please let me know. Mirchi Malini has Paoli Dam in the lead role who is able to tell individuals past and future by tasting food prepared by them. She is the talk of the town who suddenly goes off the main scene and surfaces after 2 years, creates special invites for her comeback and invites 4 ladies from different walks of life. Something mysterious and exciting. Why are these ladies chosen? Why did Mirchi Malini go off radar for 2 years? What's the reason for her comeback? What dark secrets do these ladies have? There is twist in the end of the film, which is consistent with the other 2 films in the trilogy. This according to me is the weakest amongst the 3 short films. Lacks logic, doesn't have connected timeline and misses some obvious points. News reporting or journalism is a serious business. In the world were fake news is easily spread through WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter etc. We really need reporters to take their jobs seriously and bring us the news that matters to us. Not the news about man biting dog or chip being fixed in the latest currency. The other and very important aspect is about delivering the news, since it's a serious business, do we have a common belief that it should be delivered also in a very serious manner? Shouting to kill other noise around, being always in attention, or issuing warnings like "chain se sona hai to jaag jao" may be some of the ways we have seen, but the most engaging way to reporting news is adding humor and Entertainment to it without losing essence. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver does this really well. Each episode is very well researched, presented in a great way by John Oliver and it raises the entertainment bar quite high. We do have couple of shows in India like On Air with AIB and EIC Outrage, good efforts. Last Week Tonight remains to be the Gold/Platinum/Diamond standard even in the 5th season it's currently in. Amazon Prime in India contracted OML for 14 stand-up specials last year. And this year they are adding some more seeing the growing popularity of stand-up in India. Nishant Tanwar sets the tone with full Delhi attitude in the first 2 minutes and then starts the fun ride with this Cool Bhai with a Swag. Either we can read up about places and especially people from that place and know the stereotype or we can listen to some good stand-up. Good stand-ups have the knack of observing people, their characteristics and then building the stand-up routine blowing few things out of proportion to create humor, but keep a good portion close to reality so that people can relate to it. Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) is the third most common disorder after Depression and Alcoholism. There is a difference between being an introvert and having social anxiety. Infact, an introvert can also have social anxiety. Susan Cain's book Quite talks about positives of being an introvert. SAD can be overcome by Practice, Perspective and facing your fears.Official CEOgiri is Season 2 of very popular show from Arre titled Official Chukiyagiri. Common theme being office politics, this one adds corporate games. Best thing about Official CEOgiri is Sumeet Vyas. Aahana Kumra continues to be a bitch in Season 2. We also have very versatile supporting actor of many webseries Gopal Datt. Supporting them are Eisha Chopra, Pranay Manchanda and Preeti Hansraj Sharma. This is about the transformation of Sumeet Vyas, the CEO of Analog which is into digital media and advertising, from operating with a drive to doing the live act, his journey from Janitor's room to CEO's office. The season starts with a party and almost ends with a party, almost because the end is a cliffhanger for the next season. Highly recommended for the good performances by actors and different theme. Apart from corporate games, it also deals with other sensitive topics. In this beautifully conceptualized, Indian classical raag based composition Neeti Mohan has done magic. Neeti who is otherwise known for her Jazz & Peppy numbers tries something different. She is a trained classical singer and dancer. When her sisters Mukti and Shakti join her in this new avatar of Neeti, they create magic with the dance, the bonding, the chemistry. I felt Neeti is playing Meera, Mukti playing Radha and Shakti playing Gopi (couldn't think of one name). I would have loved to see the magic go on for a little longer. Convincing very busy and career oriented daughter to meet a prospective life partner for an arranged marriage is an art and science. In the shirt film Dekhne Mein Kya Harj Hai, this is covered very well by actors Brijendra Kala (Dad) and Ayesha Raza (Mom) for their daughter Mayuri played by Priya Chauhan. The science is about doing the analysis, finding out what daughter is like and what are her likes and then screening prospective candidates from that angle. But to have a conversation with millennials, you need to talk the same language and show social proof, that's the art. If you grew up in 90s, you would remember shows like Wagle ki Duniya, Rajni, Office Office, Sailaab, Imtihaan, Mungerilaal Ke Haseen Sapne etc. Which were very successful shows on national television on the topic of middle class. Today we have shows based on two extremes i.e. the Rich and the Poor. The middle class stories seems to be have been lost somewhere. If you were also craving for this type of show then The Aam Aadmi Family (not to be confused with any party) is perfect watch. It's a light and a delightful series about the middle class family in Delhi. Season 1 is about setting up characters and Season 2 takes you on the journey of emotions of the characters. What happens when fine actors like Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar are given crappy script. Ekta Kapoor has been undisputed Queen of TV, but she is also responsible for introducing very regressive shows. So, when I heard her interview about foray into web medium, I thought we should expect some change. But, as they say; more things change, more they remain same. Good actors, interesting premise, potential for good conflict all getting you to think it can be interesting show, but sadly it remains another Ekta Kapoor show.
