Laila Alawa is the Founder and CEO of The Tempest, the fastest-growing media company changing the global narrative of diverse millennial women. In 2017, Laila presented a TED Talk, The Secret Behind World Domination. In 2018, she was named to Forbes 30 Under 30, for elevating the voices of women of all ethnicities around the world. Named an Ariane de Rothschild Fellow, she was also nominated as Changemaker for the United States of Women White House Summit. Laila regularly appears on national and international television, radio and podcast programs to provide a perspective on minority stereotyping, media, technology, politics and gender studies. Since founding The Tempest, Laila has been quoted in nationwide outlets like The New York Times, The Guardian, and CNN Money as a "disruptive force in media." Prior to founding the company, Laila worked at the White House and Congress, and previously served as a research specialist at Princeton University, studying socio-cognitive processing under the framework of community identity and belonging. She's also the host of The Expose, a weekly podcast tackling tough topics with snark and wit. In 2016, she got her own Snopes page and was a Nominated Changemaker for the United State of Women White House Summit. Prior to founding The Tempest, Laila was a research specialist at Princeton University, studying socio-cognitive processing under the framework of community identity and belonging.
