Search for Him when He can be Found

Today we will begin another mini-series, in preparation for that great moment of Yom Kippur Ne'ilah . There are five pesukim in Ne'ilah that we will explain. The first pasuk starts off with a few introductory words. ואתה ברחמיך רבים רחם עלינו /God, in your great mercy have mercy on us. כי לא תחפץ בהשחתת עולם /You don't want the world to be destroyed. You created the world to continue. The Sefer Ikarim says the reason these ten days are so powerful is because it's when God created the world. And when God created the world, we tell God, God, You created the world. You know who we are, and You know that we need Teshuva to keep it going. That is why every year, when God wants to renew the world (and He has that same desire to have a world), with that comes a desire to cleanse us. If not, we couldn't have a world. We cite a pasuk as proof that God doesn't want the world to be destroyed. (Everything needs a pasuk. ) It's a pasuk that refers to these ten days ( Yeshaya 55,6) דִּרְשׁ֥וּ יְהֹוָ֖ה בְּהִמָּֽצְא֑וֹ קְרָאֻ֖הוּ בִּֽהְיוֹת֥וֹ קָרֽוֹב׃ Search for God when He is to be found, Call out to Him when He is close. That's our proof. If God has a time of the year that He's with us more than ever, and closer more than ever, then I know that He wants to keep the world going. Now, let's first understand these two terminologies: -Search for Him when He is to be found -Call to Him when He is close The Pachad Yitzhak, in his sefer on Yom Kippur (essay 1) quotes the Rambam's Hilchot Teshuva (chapter 2, Halacha 6), that says there are two things going on here. Number one is that during these ten days, the our teshuva is especially accepted. Additionally, our prayer is especially accepted. Dirshu Hashem B'Himatzo/Search for God when he is to be found is discussing Teshuva . Teshuva means return to God. 'I don't know where He is. I lost Him.' ' Now , You'll see Him.' And KeraUhu B'Yoto Karov/Call to Him when He's close, is for Prayer -. He's always close, but He's especially close during these days. So if God created a time that He's easily found and easily called upon, that means He doesn't want the world to be destroyed. Ne'ilah is from those last moments of this special time. There's a beautiful Mashal - a true story, a great Hasidic rabbi whose children were playing hide-and-go-seek. One of the children came in crying. The Rebbi asked this child, Why you crying? He answered, " We were playing hide-and-go-seek, and I found such a good hiding spot that everyone just gave up looking for me. I was just sitting there and they all stopped looking for me and left me there!" The Rebbi heard this and suddenly burst out crying. His students were shocked. It was only a game. Why the tears? He explained that he was not crying for his child. He was crying for Hashem . God created this world / Olam , ' He'Olam' - the root of the word Olam is Alam / hiding . God is hiding in the world. He's hiding in every apple, in every orange and every pear, and no one's looking for Him. That's why the Rebbe cried. Sometimes you play hide-and-go-seek and the kid has a good spot. But sometimes the kid is clumsy and his foot sticks out of the closet, so you can see him, and say, " Oh, there he is!" That's what Aseret Yeme Teshuva are. God is easily found and therefore, we have to take advantage of this time. The Or Yisrael, in Kochvei Or , letter five of Rav Itzele Peterberger says it's like somebody insulted someone, and the person who was insulted goes to the place where the person insulted him, and waits there, to give him the opportunity to apologize. " Oh, he's right there! I wasn't going to travel to find him, but he's right in front of my store. Let me go out there and say I'm sorry." That's what Hashem does during these days. And it's Aseret Yeme Teshuva. It's Yom Kippur. And the last moments is Ne'Ilah . The Pesikta d'Rav Kahana (letter7) says, It's like a king that is in the city where the people are upset with him. The king is about to leave the city to call the army. But one of the people sees the king leaving and tells everyone, " Get him before he leaves, catch him on his way out!" That's what we're supposed to be feeling at Ne'ilah . He's about to leave. Now's your last chance. So we quote this pasuk דִּרְשׁ֥וּ יְהֹוָ֖ה בְּהִמָּֽצְא֑וֹ קְרָאֻ֖הוּ בִּֽהְיוֹת֥וֹ קָרֽוֹב׃ Come back to Him right now when you can see Him, call out to Him, give your last prayers when He is close , Don't give up hope. You can do it. You can make it. This is a special responsibility in the final moments of Ne'ilah , and of course, throughout Aseret Yeme Teshuva, to return, to find him. B'Ezrat Hashem , with that, Hashem will bring a beautiful new year.

We also announced the winners of our Public Greats GLM giveaway, and heard the incredible stories of 4 Web3 public goods builders from Treegens, KFMEDIA℠, Earth Coin, and ReFi Tulum. As this was a live, unedited Twitter Space, the audio quality isn't quite up to our usual standard since most of the speakers were using their phones. Daily Emunah Podcast - Daily Emunah By Rabbi David Ashear

How does emunah come into play when it comes to the idea of loving our fellow Jew? First and foremost, someone who has emunah wants to do the will of Hashem to the best of his ability. There are numerous mitzvot in the Torah regarding not hating others, but rather loving them. If someone fully believes in Hashem, he'll overcome his inclinations towards hatred and channel them towards what Hashem wants. Unfortunately, sometimes it's religion itself that is the cause of the hatred. We know that it is wrong for a non-religious person to dislike someone because they're religious. But sometimes people who are religious may think that disliking someone non-religious is justified. When Hashem told Moshe to tell Pharaoh that the Jewish people were considered like His precious firstborn child, what level of religion were they on? The midrash says their hairstyles were done in the style of idol worshippers. They did not have a brit milah. They wore shatnez . Most of them were born into families that had already been influenced by Egyptian culture. They were following what they knew. But Hashem still loved them like his own children. There are many people who refuse to be in the same room as someone else who differs in his philosophies in religion. Rabbi Menashe Reizman made a beautiful point, using emunah to bridge these gaps. Hashem, in His infinite wisdom, decides where each neshama needs to be in this world to do its unique job. Some people He places into families with no religion. Some people He places into families that have X type of philosophy, and some into families with Y type of philosophy. In most cases, the reason a person thinks the way he does is because of the environment that Hashem put him in. When we want to dislike someone else because of his philosophy, we should also think about the fact that if Hashem would have put us in that person's environment, we would think exactly like he does. So how could we dislike someone because of the environment that Hashem put him in? A person might say, "But how could it be? Does Hashem want someone not to be religious or to have the wrong philosophy? How could He put him in an environment that is not conducive for the proper spiritual growth?" To that we say, we are not capable of fathoming the ways of Hashem in this world. Consider as a Mashal a writer of suspense novels. If he's a good writer, the reader will not be able to put everything together until the very last paragraph of the book. A good writer can keep his reader in suspense until the very end. On that last page, everything comes together and it all makes sense. If the writer is not so good, his readers can begin figuring him out, or figuring out the end of the book as they come upon the last few chapters. The greater the writer, the longer he can keep his reader in suspense. Hashem, kavayachol , is the greatest writer of all. Nobody has been able to figure Him out, and nobody will be able to figure Him out until He reveals Himself on that final day. On that day, we will understand exactly why there needed to be different philosophies and different types of Jews, all serving Hashem the way they were taught. We will also understand why there had to be Jews who didn't even know they were Jews. For now, Hashem wants us to love even the people that we disagree with. If we can learn to love, in honor of Hashem, that will hasten the Geulah . And then, Hashem will let us understand everything that ever happened throughout history.

PM me!Sicha Summary NotesEver had a moment where you were really stuck in your own challenge? In this month of Menachem Av, we comfort Hashem for the pain He is in.There are 2 dimensions of Hashem's pain of being in golus1. Shchina is with the yidden in Golus. When we experience our Geulah it is Hashem's Geulah. Our neshamos are always Godly, no choice there, but our bodies - that dont reflect godliness, those Hashem chose! When we are physically (body) in golus, so is Hashem.2. Like a king who said to his servants, if you are looking for me, I am going to be next to my son. What is deeper about this that is being added?Differentiation! Jewish Mothers - we get it! Where my kid is, that's where Ill be.2 different situationsThe father feels obvious cherishing of the child, bringing nachas! Warm fuzzy feeling, my delicious child, i'm with them! - neshama part of the yid, nachas producer, neshama is never affected by the golusRebbe adding! This is also true when it comes to the body. The body does NOT show Hashem. It looks just as coarse as other bodies. Mashal - if you are looking for me, I am going to be with my son. Ya this is my kid, i go with him everywhere he is at. Hashem is with us in our tumah. Essential connectionOnly in the Jewish Body (vs soul) do you see the connection of Hashems essence. I'm with my kid. Period.Hashem is ALWAYS with us. Menachem Av - Hashem is here as the father to his child.Level 1 nachas connection - neshama experienceLevel 2 essential connection - body experience Taking this even deeper...We also suffer loss, How can we comfort Hashem? The greatness of what the child can do > parentsLike a blue eyed child born from brown eyed parents, the child reveals a recessive gene his parents have, but did not display. You have incredible power! Show up with all the emunah, all the positivity - WOW! This was always there in Hashem but not expressed until a Yid does this.We have the ability through our physical struggles, we are bringing out a koiach always there in Hashem - that had not yet been brought out.All of us showing up in Mitzvos, Torah, we are bringing out Hashems “recessive DNA”. there is no such thing as a ME struggle - don't ever feel alone, you are Hashems essence being expressed. Feel empowered! We can define the golus, tap into incredible koiach, Hashems essence pumping through us. Shift to new approach: Moshiach!(Chelek chof Gimmul page 214)

By exploring insights on the makkos, this podcast reveals timeless lessons about strengthening your emunah amidst life's plagues and passions. Daily Emunah Podcast - Daily Emunah By Rabbi David Ashear

We all experience situations that we wish we didn't have to go through. Our natural reaction during those times is to think, "Why is Hashem doing this to me?" or "Why did this have to happen?" When Rebbe Shimon bar Yochai came out of hiding after thirteen years, the Gemara says his body was filled with cracks and sores from being under the sand for so long. His father-in-law, Rebbe Pinchas ben Yair, saw this and cried, "Woe unto me that I have to see you like this." Rebbe Shimon replied, "אשריך שראיתני בכך"-Fortunate are you to see me like this; without this, I never would have become the person that I am now. Rabbi Lugassi explained that this is a statement we should always have on our minds and apply to our own lives. We are so fortunate to be in the position that we are in right now; no matter what we are going through, we would not be the people we are supposed to be without it. Hashem gives everyone the exact lives that they need to have to be successful in this world. He measures how much intellect a person should have, how much pride, how much of an inclination towards anger, how much money he should have, and the list goes on. Every aspect of our lives is carefully planned out for our benefit. If we have to experience a hard time, it is because that is the only way we will accomplish what we need to accomplish here. So "אשריך שראיתני בכך"-fortunate are we every second of the day that Hashem is guiding us and giving us exactly what we need. The tests that we encounter all day long are also from Hashem to bring us to where we need to be. Rabbi Lugassi gave a Mashal of a school teacher who had thirty students in his class. He would give written tests once a month to make sure they were grasping the material. One day, the principal came in and said, "You really have two different tracks of students here. I want you to make two sets of tests from now on, one for the honor students and one for the regular students." Then the principal came back and said, "On second thought, there are really three tracks of students, I want you to make three different sets of tests." This would obviously be much more work for the teacher, and he would not be to happy about it. But what if the principal said, "After further investigation, I decided that every single student is on a different level, and they need to be tested accordingly. I want you to make thirty different tests each time." The teacher might quit after hearing that. And that's just for making tests once a month. What if he would be asked to make tests every week, or even every day? Hashem, in His infinite wisdom, gives tests not to just thirty people, and not just on a daily basis, but He gives millions and millions of different tests every minute of the day, to the entire world. Every single person is tested; each one is carefully planned and tailor made for each individual to achieve the growth that he needs to achieve. When giving each test, Hashem takes into account how much Torah each person knows, how much of an inclination towards anger he has, or towards pride. All of his capabilities are factored in before a test is given. And this is done to the entire world every second. "לתבונתו אין מספר"-we will never be able to fathom the great wisdom of Hashem. But we should be delighted to know that every second of our lives is being planned out by the One who loves us and knows what we need better than we do. How beneficial it would be for us to realize in advance that we're being tested all the time. If someone came over to us and said, "In two minutes from now, a man is going to walk in and try to annoy you. He's going to say some nasty things; his goal is to get you angry. If you don't respond and you keep your cool, you'll be rewarded immensely." How easy would that test be? We'll be prepared. This is the way it is with every test. Hashem doesn't have to come and tell us each time we're being tested. Whatever he sends our way is a test for us to overcome the way the Torah tells us to overcome it. And if we do, we're a success. If we're asked how life is going, no matter what's happening, we should say, "Baruch Hashem, I am so fortunate to be living the life that I am. "אשריך שראיתני בכך"- fortunate are you to see me like this." If Hashem is putting us through it, it must be the way that we are going to achieve our true purpose.

With Rabbi Baruch Epstein from Chicago ILVisit www.ProjectLikkuteiTorah.com for more resourcesThe differences between Tohu and Tikkun:Tohu:Sefiros exist in their purest form, without having the qualities of other Sefiros (Nekudos)Each Sefirah is completely distinct from every other Sefirah (zeh tachas zeh/iggulim)Tikkun:The Sefiros exist in an expanded form, in which their latent aspects are transformed into a general structure (partzuf)Each Sefirah contains aspects of all of the other Sefiros (hiskalelus/yosher)Mashal for Tohu and Tikkun: the way the particular capacities of the Neshmah invest themselves into the physical body. Because of their investment into a holistic organism (Adam/Tikkun), each power can influence the other. In addition, there is a center which directs and oversees of all of the individual organs, Machshavah/Brain (the way Tohu is found in Tikkun). An important upshot of the investment of the capacities of the Neshama into the body (Oros into Keilim, Tikkun) is that the seemingly lower capacities can do things that even the “higher” ones can't do or can aid the higher one's and allow them to achieve things it couldn't do on its own (nautz tchilasan b'sofan…). In other words, whereas Tohu has a very strict hierarchy of value based on the independent nature of each Sefirah, Tikkun allows for a fluidity/reversal of the hierarchy because every Sefirah is comprised of every other and can (thereby) influence every other. In this case, that means that Mitzvos can be greater than Torah.Moshe, who came from the world of Tohu, was humbled by the capacities of Tikkun. This is why he asked Hashem to send someone else, and this is the meaning of his excuse: Kavod Peh=Oros Merubim v'Keilim Muatim =Tohu, which, as Moshe saw it, is in a way is lower than Tikkun (Keilim Merubim v'Oros Muatim).Hashem's answer was: “mi sam peh l'adam?” Peh= ability to draw Oros (Makiffim) into Keilim. Hashem was telling Moshe that He would grant him the ability to draw even the Orot of Tohu into the Keilim of Tikkun, Oros Merubim b'Keilim Merubim.ConceptsThe differences between Tohu and Tikkun. The inner reason for the Halachic disagreement over making a Bracha on Tefillin Shel Rosh. To understand Genesis 3:16 we must recognize that in God's first words to the woman in Line 1 God didn't even touch on the subject of childbirth. (1) God spoke to her about shared sorrowful-toil (the Hebrew word is ‘itsebon) in field work and (2) God spoke to her about conception or pregnancy (the Hebrew word is heron) and especially of the offspring who would bruise Satan's head. The way the words are put together in a chiasm in Genesis chapters 2 and 3 carries meaning. And the way verses 15-17 are linked together in a linchpin construction by the two key words in Line 1 of Genesis 3:16 brings meaning. But the meaning of each word itself is also important. In the two words of the linchpin construction that link God's words to her with God's words to the man and to the serpent the woman learns two things. Neither of them is a curse on her. One thing is about bad news. One thing is about good news. The bad news she learns is that when God curses the ground because of the man it will affect her too. They both will experience ‘itsebon or “sorrowful toil” as they do field work to raise food from the cursed ground outside of Eden. God knows they will be going there and what life there will be like. So God describes to her what her experience will be like with the cursed ground. She will have ‘itsebon. She will have sorrowful-toil. That is bad news. But God immediately moves on to tell her of good news. How can the words of 3:16 be taken as good news right after God's stern judgment on the serpent tempter? Three of the four words in Line 1 ring of good news!GO DEEPER
